    WOW, Earl , Just WOW

You assume many things about what pastors are preaching from every pulpit across the world. I have never heard a pastor preach the way you have stated and I have had many pastors in my life. I have always been taught to love our enemies, and that God loves everyone, even the unbelieving. Just because God loves everyone doesn't mean that He will not be just. He is all love, all justice, all good, all pure, all of what makes Him God. He does not diminish or set aside one attribute of His essence to magnify another. He loves those who oppose Him, but without repentance and belief, these people will receive God's perfect justice, which He said is punishment in hell. He still loves everyone wo will be in hell, but He set the terms of His judgments in His Word and He will execute perfect justice and perfect love all the time.

I know you have said that Jesus' sacrifice paid for all the sins of all mankind. I believe that, too. I believe that all mens' sins are forgiven in Christ, but I also believe that Scripture says that only those who believe that He has saved them will indeed receive eternal life with God. Salvation is not so much a point of being forgiven as it is believing the gospel of Christ is for "me" and so I receive it by faith.

God allows us to retain the free agency to refuse to believe in Him and in His gospel. And in doing so, He proves that He is just to judge those who believe to eternal life and those wo do not to hell.

I know you disagree. And I really do not wish to rehash this topic once again. People reading can go back and find the thread about this in the past month to read what has been written, because, to be honest Earl, it is those reading who are not yet convinced about tis we are really writing too whether we admit it on our post or not.

God bless you today. I am always thankful to have something to talk with you about and others here. It keeps us sharp!

    Dear rick and Bro Dan.

I agree that Jesus honored the Sabbath commandment in a perfect way, not like the religious leaders did. These leaders were more concerned about outwards actions to be strictly done by rote observance but not from the heart. It is like giving God "lip service" when we pray.

I also agree, that the Sabbath is good. But how do we know exactly what day is the true Sabbath established that day in Genesis in the year (what)? We really do not know this because we do not know the exact date of the first Sabbath. It could have been our Wednesday in our calendar or any other day. But , traditionally, it has been Saturday according to the calendar that was put into effect many centuries ago after Jesus lived on earth. How do we know that our calendar is correct? We do not. But in our time, Saturday is the 7th day. For many, this can be a Sabbath Day for them. Since the Scripture does not say we have to attend worship services on the Sabbath, (or any day), services on Sunday or Wednesday or any other day do not violate the Sabbath commandment. Those who wish to keep Saturday as a Sabbath and attend services on Sunday are being obedient to Scripture. Those who view Sunday as a Sabbath day and attend services are being obedient to the Scripture, and those who treat every day as a Sabbath are being obedient to Scripture. Each person is to prayerfully follow the lead of the Holy Spirit on this. It is one of those areas where, I believe, there can be differences.

As others have stated, living for God 24/7 as much as we are able to do is our attempts to keep the Sabbath holy, as has been pointed out by some. But we will never keep the Sabbath perfectly in this life as Jesus did. He always did the will of the Father. That is why we rest in the finished work of Jesus.

Hi Catherine Gordon. Fasting is very good, both spiritually and physically. If you are feeling weak pray to the Lord within your heart. Ask him to help you through the day. We can do all things through Jesus Christ.

Your partly right you misunderstood the concept of the blood. The blood of Jesus was shed on calvary for the remissions of sin. If the blood was applied to every man / woman, every man /woman would have to be saved and be forgiven of their sins. But man / woman must first ask for forgiven of that man's sins before the blood can be applied to that man or woman's life. The blood is only applied to a woman's or a man's life if that man or that woman asked Jesus for forgiveness of his / her sins.

    God Bless

if you believe that they put screen doors in submarines. LOL

Hi Bro Dan He condemned the way the religious leaders at the time used the sabbath to there advantage

making the commandments of God of no effect by there traditions which was false doctrine that overtime they

made their traditions. Mathew 15:1-9. These same guys broke there law and had a trial at night behind

closed doors against Jesus Christ and the same evil hypocrites made sure our passover was down from the

cross so they could be CLEAN to celebrate the passover. So blind they didn't know they sacrificed the

passover of eternity our Lord and Saviour.

They constantly went against love joy peace meekness mercy instead do it our way or else

that's the epitome of man made religion. It's better known as Self Righteousness. They hated Jesus Christ

because he hit them right where they lived!

Earl They could not have knowledge of death or anything dealing with confusion fear or destruction because of

that source the adversary. Don't think the adversary didn't know what God told them Also what's the difference

they knew about death or not

is if you disobey me your Father you deal with the consequences of your unbelief. Also who made Eve

question Gods Word was it not the great liar. By the way they died in the worst way they no longer had their

spiritual connection with God and Adam lost all authority Given him by God. That's why in Genesis 3:10 Adam

said I was afraid, that's a bad position to be in with your father yet look who God blamed. Neither Adam nor

    Eve.

We are saved by faith, because of the shed blood of Jesus. However, Jesus told us that God's law will stand till heaven and earth pass. The law in Col 2 is the handwritten Moses' law not the !0 Commandments, finger-written by God.

If we sin, we need to repent. What is sin? 1 John 3vs 4 ' sin is the transgression of the law.' So, clearly, Jesus expects us to obey the law. It is written in our hearts but still can be over-ruled by us. Besides, what exactly does 'written in our hearts 'mean? Let us not be confused with trying to convert old Greek understandings exactly into modern English. We still have freewill and are not automatons obeying the Lord because of His presence within us. How can there be any disagreement between the written law and the law in our hearts? Jesus Christ is the same 'yesterday, today and forever' and Hebrews 13:8 'I am the Lord, I change not."( Malachi 3:6). What does being saved mean? To verbally accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour without complete submission to Him as Lord is worthless-- Rev 3:16.

We can lose our salvation. see, eg. Matt 24:13-'but he that shall endure to the end shall be saved' and Rev 3:11.

This issue is really important and often confusing. We are saved so we won't sin and will develop characters fit for heaven. God does not ever want any more disobedience. We must understand that His ways are perfect and we must obey.

Are you ready for His return? Let's look at the characteristics of his faithful followers at that time. Revelation 14:12-

'They keep the COMMANDMENTS OF GOD AND THE FAITH OF JESUS.' Note further Rev 22:14-

'Blessed are they that DO HIS COMMANDMENTS, that they may have RIGHT to the tree of life and may enter into the city.'

Note that it says HIS commandments, not somebody else's. Jesus does not separate Himself from His law.

'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. The Bible also tells us in Psalm 119 vs 142 'Thy law is Truth.'

1 John 2:4- we are liars if not keeping commandments.

    Hi Bonita,

I agree with GiGi, I believe Jesus was 30 yrs old

Luke 3:22-23. And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

( AND JESUS HIMSELF BEGAN TO BE ABOUT THIRTY YEARS OF AGE, ) being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

It may have something to do with serving as a priest.

    Numbers 4:3-4.

    God bless.

Brother Dan, before you can disobey you have to be given the command and with ever command comes a warning of the punishment that goes with that command.

Before you act on the command you either believe or do not believe.

If you believe and then obey, then there is no negative outcome, and no punishment.

If you don't believe and disobey, then there is a negative outcome, and punishment.

Adam and Eve had no KNOWLEDGE of what death was, so their UNBELIEF came before disobedience.

When young children are commanded by their parents not to touch the stove or it will burn them, they have no KNOWLEDGE of what being burned is. In UNBELIEF they touch the stove. Now they have KNOWLEDGE.

It was necessary and preordained that man would eat from the TREE OF KNOWLEDGE, you have to have KNOWLEDGE of hot and cold, etc., etc., everything has an opposite, so man had to have KNOWLEDGE of good and evil, they are the fruit of the same tree.

The CHURCH in the wilderness was told to search out the promise land and see for themselves that it was a land flowing with milk and honey. And God said I WILL GO BEFORE YOU and drive out the inhabitants of the land.

Upon returning all 12 said yes it was like God said, but 10 told the people there are giants in the land and they will destroy us.

But 2 told the people, yes there are giants in the land; BUT GOD SAID, he would drive them out.

The people BELIEVED man and NOT GOD. UNBELIEF CAUSES DISOBEDIEBCE.

Hebrews 3:19 We see they could not enter in because of UNBELIEF.

Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of UNBELIEF.

    God Bless You.

Hi Bro Dan I will rephrase he condemned the what the religious leaders were using Gods commandment to

to accomplish self righteousness don't do any work on the sabbath which means don't heal anybody

That's what I'm talking about, in our day and time some people say the sabbath is saturday some say sunday

the idea is our rest is in the believing of what was accomplished by Jesus Christ spiritually which fulfills the

law. The law was our schoolmaster until Christ Galatians 3:21-29 if someone declares that if I by occupation

or choose to go to a fellowship in a house and not a building with a steeple and cross does that make me

a sinner? My bible says the church are the people eklesia which is a gathering of people who come together

for one common purpose ours is to worship and love God. We who walk by the spirit fulfill the law.

Hi William If there teaching the law doesn't count period that's not realty because when we walk by the spirit

we complete the law because we walk on the Highest law the law of Love. Therefore completing Math:22:37-40.

I'll guarantee you that no christian can walk by all the over 400 laws in the old testament the idea is NOT TO

INTENTIONALLY BREAK GODS COMMANDMENTS which if you endeavor to walk by the spirit to love God first you

won't be purposely breaking His Commandments.
  • Earl Bowman - In Reply - 4 years ago
AMEN Brother Dan, I will agree EVERY WORD ever spoken by Christ is LAW, and they are all commands to be kept and followed.

This comes back to the sin of UNBELIEF. God said love you enemies. But why would Christians think these words should be obeyed, when they are taught from the pulpit, God hates his enemies and condemns them to ETERNAL TORTURE.

How many Christians LOVE their ENEMIES. Not many.

How many Christians pray for their enemies. Not many.

After shootings in school and our pastors pray for the victims. How many pastors pray for the gunman. NOT MANY.

Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest, for he (GOD) IS KIND to the UNTHANKFUL and the EVIL.

    God Bless You
  • Bro dan - In Reply on John 7 - 4 years ago
    Bro Rick,

You are incorrect. Jesus didn't condemn the Sabbath. He condemned the Pharisees for the overly strict interpretation of the Laws, including the Sabbath. Let's get it right! Jesus and the apostles always kept the Sabbath Day as did the church in the 1st century.

Jesus or JC as you call him, observed the Sabbath, and he showed us by example that we could help others on the Sabbath. So, Jesus always leads by example.

    Jesus said: Luke 6:5

"And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath." Why would Jesus want to be Lord of something that is bad?

You seem to insinuate that the Sabbath is a bad thing. It is a gift that God gave to man. He created us, and he knows that we need rest from working. God also tells us specifically 'To Remember to keep holy the Sabbath".

It's called being obedient to God, something mankind does not like to do.

    God Bless

Hi Martha Ephesians 5:25-29 fits much better, also just the term minister itself means their supposed to Love respect cherish have self control, patience, and honor others before Himself I.E. example to others. My point

has always been I'd rather see a sermon then hear one also respect is earned not just given. I don't know your whole situation I'd get advice from others who know of the situation and bring it before two or three believers.

No matter who the individual is if there not committed to the doctrine that is unbelief. Let the Word do the Work

we are not held accountable for someone else's unbelief no matter who they may be.

Amarin, you are right, Christ will judge in righteousness. If you are IN CHRIST and CHRIST IN YOU, you are already JUDGED, and you have been found righteous, you have kept his commandments, because he fulfilled and kept all the law. If you are IN CHRIST and CHRIST IN YOU, you have CEASED from your works and REST SOLELY in HIS WORKS.

Interesting conversation here concerning keeping the Sabbath. I think it is important to have a time to rest from work. In our society today, we do have time to do this more than any other time in history. When people had to work all of the time, morning to night, to provide for their families, they did not have much "free" time. We have oodles of it, hence we have so many "leisure" activities (sports, hobbies, clubs, etc.) to engage in today. I do not read in the Genesis account exactly what we are to do on a Sabbath day except to rest from work.

Hebrews speak of a rest that is in God. Perhaps that is what God is speaking about when He commanded the keeping of the Sabbath as "holy" (set apart for God). I think that living as one set apart by God through conversion is keeping the rest of God.

  • GiGi - In Reply on Luke 2 - 4 years ago
It is often stated that Jesus was 30 when He began preaching the news of the kingdom after His baptism. And He preached for 3 years or so before He was crucified. I am not sure of the exact age or times, but it was probably within this range give or take a few years either way. He also was in the temple at age twelve and spoke about what was read in the Torah. The teachers marveled at what He said, since it was so wise and mature.

It should be noted that God made animals for us to eat. See Acts 10:13-16. We are also to be good stewards of the resources God has blessed us with, including the resources of the land. To me that means to not waste food and not kill for sport if you are not eating it. If there is a threat from animals, such as wild hogs in Texas, that kills crops and other animals then I believe killing is necessary to preserve resources. Also, I believe killing in self defense is ok. If a neighbors angry dog attacks a child I will take any and all means to stop it including killing it, and I would think not stopping it would be wrong.
  • Amarin - In Reply - 4 years ago
I would say that Jesus did not change the unclean and clean food Laws in the Bible. They are still in effect. There is not a Bible verse to clearly support that He ate Biblically unclean food.

Then do internet searches on the consequences of eating Biblically CLEAN foods.
  • GiGi again on Genesis 42 - 4 years ago
    continued...

I think it is interesting that the brothers foresaw some negative result of the accusation of being spies. They then blamed their misfortune on their sin against Joseph such a long time ago. They all held this sin in common. Although Rueben mentions that he tried to stop what the brothers intended sin. He probably thought that he could have done more to help Joseph and he probably could have done something more, but didn't. So here we have sins of commission and sin of omission.

Again, when Jacob heard the account of what had happened, he thought that God was bringing tis on him for some wrongdoing.

Jacob did not want to send Benjamin to Egypt and he was vexed of heart that Simeon was left behind. He did not want to lose more of his family.

I wonder if Joseph had sent just enough corn to get them by for a short time so tat they will be compelled to return for more.
  • GiGi on Genesis 42 - 4 years ago
So this story takes place 14 years after Joseph was put in charge of the land by Pharoah. At the time of the appointment, Joseph had been in Egypt 13 years. 17+13+14=44. Joseph was now 44. His other brothers who visited were older, probably 50-65 or so as an age spread. Benjamin was younger than Joseph but not a child. Probably 35-40 or so.

Jacob was quite older now, but the loss of Rachel and Joseph stuck with him all these years. He said tat Benjamin was alone, however, he had 10 other brothers. Makes me wonder how integrated the family was with four mothers of 12 sons and 1 daughter. Maybe, since they were herdsmen who lived in tents, they lived in different areas where their flocks were pastured according to households with their mothers. So, Benjamin may have lived with Jacob, but not with his other brothers.

The brothers had been away from Joseph for 17 years. He probably had a shaved head and raiment like along the Egyptian style for the upper class. Joseph's brothers still dressed the same as when Joseph was sold. So, this was may have been how Joseph recognized them and they did not recognized him. Joseph was now bilingual (or multi) and so he could speak in the Egyptian tongue so they could not recognize or understand him.

Joseph's accusations that they were spies was a serious one, especially in a time of famine, making the area vulnerable.

He knew they were not spies, but wanted the brothers to speak about the family to know about Benjamin and his father. He wept, probably to find out that his brother and father were alive and well as well as to see his brothers once again.

His response to seeing his brothers shows that Joseph held no animosity towards his brothers for what they did to him. He knew he was favored by God in the time he had been in Egypt. He knew he was now in a place to bless his family with much needed corn to feed their flocks and to feel their families. He knew that if he did not help them, his family could easily starve.
