If what you are asking are those who didn't believe in or have faith and do what was provided for them for salvation lost and condemned. I would say yes.
That is not just the Israelites in the OT, or the Gentiles in the OT.
It goes also for the Israelites today and the Gentiles today.
The Israelites before the crucifixion of Christ had to express their faith by the works of the law in their sacrifices and rituals pointing foward to one who would come. ( Their Messiah! )
This is called the dispensation of the law which started at Exodus 19:5 and ended at John 19:30.
This is what Paul is saying in Romans 10:4.
It is also important to note that the Law of Moses was given only for the nation of Israel.
( Exodus 19:3-8; Deuteronomy 5:1-3; 4:8). Jesus made it clear that it was given to Israel and not the Gentiles ( Mark 12:29-30). The apostle Paul said the Law was given to Israel and not the Church ( Romans 2:14; 9:4-5; Ephesians 2:11-12). The dispensation of Law is over.
While the Abrahamic Covenant continues and has not yet been completely fulfilled (even to this day),
As for Hell, It is not open for business yet.
According to the book of Revelation, the Beast and the false prophet are the first to be cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 19:20.
What then of Ephesians 5:31-32? Paul says the husband-wife union is a mystery that illustrates Christ and the church. But Paul still names our identity repeatedly as His Body ( Eph 1:22-23; 5:30; 1 Cor 12:27), "one new man," and a "new creature" ( 2 Cor 5:17; Gal 6:15)-never calling us the Bride. Even 2 Corinthians 11:2 ("espousedas a chaste virgin") is betrothal imagery used to guard the Body from deception; it does not rename the Body as the Bride nor collapse Israel's prophetic marriage into Paul's mystery people. Keeping these categories distinct preserves both God's faithfulness to Israel's covenants and the uniqueness of the church revealed "not made known" before Paul ( Eph 3:1-9; Rom 16:25-26).
On baptism: John's and Peter's water baptisms belonged to Israel's kingdom program ( Mark 1:4; Luke 7:29-30; Acts 2:38; 22:16)-covenantal, priestly, and preparatory for an earthly nation of priests ( Exod 19:6; Ezek 36:25-27). In this dispensation, Christ sent Paul "not to baptize, but to preach the gospel" ( 1 Cor 1:17), and there is "one baptism" ( Eph 4:5) by which the Spirit places us into Christ's death and resurrection ( Rom 6:3-5; 1 Cor 12:13; Col 2:11-12). Romans 6 describes that Spirit baptism's identification with Christ-not a ritual that completes salvation. We are saved by grace through faith apart from works ( Eph 2:8-9; Titus 3:5). Water may testify, but it cannot add to the finished cross-work ( John 19:30; Gal 2:21). To make it a salvation requirement would muddle Israel's kingdom commands with the Body's grace calling.
So, yes: saints from Israel's program and from the Body will both be with Christ and under His rule-but Scripture differentiates their identities and spheres. Israel/Zion/New Jerusalem is the Bride/Wife in prophecy and Revelation; the Body is the heavenly people of the mystery, bone of His bone and seated above. Keeping those distinctions guards the gospel of grace today and honors God's promises to Israel tomorrow.
Dear God Father in Heaven we ask for wisdom and the Spirit of understanding Isaiah 11:2 to Caleb so that he understands what to do. We trust in You Father that You will give Caleb what he needs in due time, Amen in Jesus Christ Holy Name above all other names, Amen. Eph 1:17 Trust that He will answer you in due time.
Thank you Lbooth1955; very well analysed and written. Even as the Apostle Paul addressed the Gentiles specifically (in Romans 11:13) that in that short discourse ( Romans 11:13-26) the Church was the 'organism' grafted into the good Olive Tree (Israel of God's Kingdom) and not the other way around. That we have nothing to be proud of, "Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee." If it were not for the Olive Tree (the true Israel rooted in the faith of Abraham, Isaac, & Israel), we Gentiles would have no right or access to be grafted into that tree to receive salvation by the same faith and of the blessings that follow.
Indeed, Israel and the Church will always be separate. Only when "Israel shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away" ( 2 Corinthians 3:15,16), and the 'mystery of the united Church of Jew & Gentile' be fully realized in all being gathered in. But I perceive that Israel shall endure much suffering, when at the end, the remnant among them will see the One Whom they pierced ( John 19:37: once at the crucifixion; and then finally reminded, affirmed and believed on at His second Coming, Zechariah 12:9-11). Blessings.
John the Baptist describes himself as "the friend of the bridegroom" (Jesus). This kind of friendship is marked by joy in seeing the other shine. A true friend celebrates when Christ takes the spotlight.
John 11:11
Why is it important?
Jesus calls Lazarus "friend", showing that Christ's friendship includes empathy and compassionate action - He moves to restore the life of His friend.
John 19:12
Why is it important?
Even though it's in a negative context, it shows that "being a friend" meant public loyalty. This becomes a contrast: true loyalty must belong first to Christ, not to earthly power.
Verses 26-27 - (At the cross, Jesus entrusts Mary to "the disciple whom He loved".)
This shows mutual care among those who follow Him.
You may find that these verses in 1 John 5 are debated; therefore, you should study them in prayer for your understanding. As in verse 6, it is "the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. " You may research the Johannine Comma, it pertains to what has been added or translated from the Latin Vulgate, not the Greek text, and decide for yourself.
Read the entire chapter and let the context of what John is writing help with the meaning. In verse 8 in the Greek, to Pneuma to hydor kai to haima kai hoi treis eisin eis hen, it would better read: to the Spirit to the water and the blood and these three are in agreement. The water, blood, and the Spirit are a witness to the truth.
The water and the blood point to Jesus's sacrifice, John 19:34, and we see that when Jesus was baptized, He was anointed by the Spirit of God. Jesus is the Son of God, and what is written about His sacrifice for us is what is at stake for man to hear.
Many traditions are followed, but do they line up with Scripture? The week Jesus was crucified, Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the first day of the week, which would have been the 10th of Nisan. This would be the same day the people were to put up the lamb that would be sacrificed on Passover Day, the 14th of Nisan, Exodus 12:3. The money changers were selling animals for the Passover and other sacrifices. They were also exchanging money for the temple tax or tribute; it had to be a half-shekel.
Each day is recorded in Matthew 21 through Matthew 27:56, Mark 11:1 through Mark 15:41, Luke 19:28 through Luke 23:49, and John 12:1 through John 19:37.
John 12:1 John states it was six days before Passover when they arrived in Bethany, and the next day Jesus rode into Jerusalem, which was five days until Passover. Today, this day is referred to as Palm Sunday, the first day of the week.
Day one, 10th of Nisan, Jesus rides into Jerusalem, casts out the money changers and returns to Bethany, and lodges there, Matthew 21:1-17, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:1 through Luke 23:49. Luke does not cover the back and forth to Bethany, and John 12:1-50, John then picks up at the Last Supper.
Day two, 11th of Nisan, shows Jesus going back to Jerusalem, the fig tree, casting out the money changers again, just like the first Passover He attended in His three and a half years' ministry, John 2:14-16. The plot started with how to kill Jesus, Matthew 21:18-Matthew 25:46, Mark 11:12 through Mark 13:37, Luke 22:38. Matthew, Mark, and Luke cover Jesus' teachings in the temple, parables, and the Olivet discourse.
Day three, 12th of Nisan, is two days until Passover, Matthew 26:2-13, Mark 14:1-2. The plot to kill Jesus got more intense.
Day four, 13th of Nisan, they were in Bethany in Simon the leper's house, and a woman came in and poured precious ointment on Jesus's head, Matthew 26:6-13, Mark 14:3-9. Judas makes the deal to betray Jesus, Matthew 26:14-16, Mark 14:10-11. Toward the end of the day, the disciples ask him where he wants them to prepare to eat the Passover, Matthew 26:17-19, Mark 14:12-15, and Luke 22:7-13.
In Mark 14:12 and Luke 22:7, it says that on the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover lambs. The Passover lambs are killed on the 14th, Passover day, not on the first day of unleavened bread, the 15th. The Last Supper was at the beginning of Passover day, before the lambs were killed; we must remember that days start at sundown. We also see in John 18:28 that after the Last Supper, when they took Jesus to Pilate, they would not go into the judgment hall because they would be defiled, as they had not eaten the Passover.
When the sun went down on the fourth day, which we call Wednesday, is the beginning of Passover day, the 14th of Nisan, the day Jesus was crucified and the Passover lambs are killed.
The lambs are killed on the 14th in the evening, when the sun begins to go down, any time after noon until it sets. The lambs are eaten the night of the 15th, the first day of the seven-day feast, which is a holy convocation/Sabbath, Exodus 12:6-16, the same night they went out of Egypt, not on Passover day.
The Lord's Supper and the crucifixion occurred on Passover day, the fifth day since Jesus rode into Jerusalem, marking it as the 5th day of the week we call Thursday. Friday was the 15th, the first day of Unleavened Bread. John called it a high day, John 19:31. The Greek word is megas, meaning great, a feast holy convocation, which resulted in two Sabbaths in a row, Friday and Saturday.
I believe it was Josh McDowell who originally did a study on the death of Christ; along with others who have done medical analysis as to what the crucifixion would have entailed. We have the Shroud of Turin which certainly seems to be the linen that bears Christ's image; explained as to the apparent later date as being material taken as a sample on the outer edges of the garment that were repaired after fire damage in the 1300's.
At present I don't feel it would be edifying or that I am even worthy of doing an analysis of this chapter. The story unfolds in all its graphic detail; fulfilling numerous prophecies; especially poignant to the entire chapter of Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22. It is said that the spiritual suffering of Christ being separated for that moment from the Father was worse than the physical agony but can't be ignored; certainly. Satan is no half hearted foe as to the level of destruction he brings in this hour of darkness (see Luke 22:53). God allowed him to bring forth the circumstances leading to His death; Jesus still gave up the ghost when the work was done in saying "it is finished" ( John 19:30). Once again when the "restrainer" is removed from the earth ( 2 Thess. 2:6-8) the powers of evil will have full control for a short time ( Daniel 8:24).
Matthew 28-The Resurrection
Jesus of course came back to life early Sunday morning which we celebrate this week. Hallelujia and Maranatha (Lord come soon). It is hard to fathom how I could live until 18 years old and not know the Lord as I have for the last 42 years. The Gospels are clear that even with one raising from the dead wicked people won't believe (as illustrated in the Parable of the rich man in hell). The nation of Israel still largely is blind until the time the Lord has set for Jacob's trouble. Jeremiah 30:7 says: Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.
John records in chapters 12-17 the events in the last week of Christ's ministry leading up to his capture in verse 18 and the Crucifixion itself in chapter 19. Once again I hope I read the text carefully in order to say that here there are no further miracles demonstrated in His ministry. The controversy over Lazarus would start events rolling with the insane desire to have both him and Christ killed off ( John 12:9-11). The actual excoriation as I put it of the Pharisees is absent in John's account. Jesus in this Gospel is given much more emphasis as to His discourse with the Disciples which involved themes of the Trinity; His necessity to leave and comfort about the coming Spirit and His coming again and the prayer for the church as a whole in chapter 17. I shouldn't neglect the prophetic warnings in chapter 16 in being put to death.
The fact that 1/3 of the Gospels involves "Passion week" is significant. There was no time to waste; as Jesus knew the great shock to come would catch them off guard; that they would all run away and needed assurance as to the Spirit's role in transformation. Details about His death and resurrection are in all 4 gospels as it is no doubt the most significant aspect of His ministry as pertaining to us; even today. John 19:26 is the last mention of what are said to be 6 mentionings of "the one Jesus loved" in regard to John the author of this Gospel. At first glance that would seem rather arrogant. Maybe someone here has some insight; I would surmise that:
1) John was part of the group who went up in the Transfiguration. Interestingly; this event is NOT covered in John but in the other 3 Gospel accounts as well as 2 Peter. This would constitute the "inner circle" so to speak.
2) John laid across his bosom ( John 13:23).
3) Jesus Himself mentioned "if I want him to remain; what is that to you" in John 21:22 responding to Peter. He would die a natural death before then.
Can we really follow Jesus's footsteps in His early ministry in the four gospels ? ? Can we really heal everyone like Jesus Christ has ? ? Can we raise the dead from the grave like Jesus Christ ? ?
Jesus Christ healed all that was sick.
Matthew 4:23
And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, andhealing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
Jesus casted out devils.
Mark 1:39
And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, andcastoutdevils
Peter tried to walk on water like Jesus.
Matthew 14:29
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, hewalkedonthewater, to go to Jesus.
Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead.
John 11:43
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice,Lazarus, come forth.
Now we ask ourselves again, can we really walk Jesus Christ footsteps and follow the law without sinning ? ? The answer is a big no .
That's why Jesus Christ died on the cross so we don't have to follow the law for Salvation, because the law only condemneth us and we don't have power anymore to heal or cast out devils.
John 19:30
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said,Itisfinished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Jesus Christ is our redeemer for Salvation in his grace.
Ephesians 1:7
In whom we haveredemptionthrough his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We now have the complete word of God. The The other stuff faded away. We are left with the Holy Spirit and the Word of Truth.
1 Corinthians 15:9-10
9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
Why did Jesus call Mother Mary woman ? ? Was Jesus Christ being disrespectful to His earthly Mother ? ?
John 19:26
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother,Woman, behold thy son!
Now, back in Genesis, Jesus Christ was the spoken word talking to Adam and Eve. I believe Jesus Christ was reminded Mother Mary of Genesis. It was victory that was going to happen for mankind.
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and betweenthyseed and her seed; it shallbruisethyhead, and thou shaltbruisehisheel.
If anyone would of known that the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ would of been for Salvation for all , Satan would of stopped it.
1 Corinthians 2:8
Which none of the princes of this world knew:forhadtheyknownit, theywould nothavecrucified the Lord of glory.
Because the gospel of grace, the women became free from bondage and can work in the workplace. Apostle Paul recognized that a women was important to the ministry.
I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
Romans 16:1
That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
Romans 16:3-4
3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
4 Who have for my life laid down their ownnecks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
May we all remember the gospel of grace in the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 only Apostle Paul was given the secret of the mystery of the resurrection for Salvation by believing only
I understand there are different understandings on this, many go with the tradition Jesus was crucified and put in the tomb on Friday and rose on the first day/Sunday. Others like yourself hold that Jesus was crucified and placed in the tomb on Wednesday and rose on Saturday before sunset.
The whole account is in all four gospels the Scriptures I listed in my first post if we study it. It was 6 days before Passover day when Jesus went to Bethany the following day He rode into Jerusalem on the first day of the week 5 days from Passover day. Jesus went back to Bethany that night. The next day Jesus returned to Jerusalem, the second day of the week/Monday.
Jesus returned to Bethany that night and returned to Jerusalem the next morning the third day of the week/Tuesday. Jesus returned to Bethany that night and returned to Jerusalem the next morning the fourth day of the week/Wednesday.
Jesus left the temple and went with His disciples to the Mount of Olives where we read the Sermon on the Mount. He sent Peter and John to make ready the upper room where they had the Last Supper this would be the beginning of the fifth day of the week/Thursday.
This was Passover day when the lambs were to be killed, and preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread a holy convocation/Sabbath, John 19:31 John calls it a high day. That is the reason they had to put Jesus in a tomb, not because of the weekly Sabbath but the first day of the feast, there were two Sabbaths back-to-back.
Jesus rose on the first day of the week/Sunday on the Feast of Firstfruits, the first day after the weekly Sabbath after Passover, Leviticus 23:10-14.
People then and today call Passover or the feast of Unleavened Bread an 8-day feast but the first day is the 14th Passover day when Jesus was crucified, a preparation day. The 15th and 21st are the Sabbath days or holy convocations.
Not sure I can say anymore, in the scriptures are the truth what Jesus did is what matters.
Brother in the highest respect I know we disagree on this you understand that the Son of God is a title. You said about huios; quote "doesn't have anything to do with somebody who is born from a woman. This is somebody who's been placed in a position of inheritance." end quote. To me that would be saying Jesus was figuratively the son of God.
The two Greek words you use huios and teknon. Huios means properly, a son by birth or adoption; Jesus was Son by birth and we as believers become figuratively a son/huios of God being adopted and heirs of the promise through the only begotten Son of God Jesus, 1 John 3:2Romans 8:23.
Jesus was born of Mary by the Spirit of God and as Jesus grew, he knew who He was as he said in Luke 2:49 I must be about my Father's business.
We see in Luke 15:24 the prodigal son, his father told the servants his son/huios had returned, a son who was born of him and a mother. In this parable told by Jesus, the man called his other son/teknon who was born of the same father and mother. The word teknon means a child, a son, or a daughter.
In John 19:7 this is what the Jews said, they said he made himself the Son of God by saying Jesus just claimed to be the Son of God but was not, they rejected Jesus and did not believe Jesus was truly the Son of God, the Messiah, even after He was resurrected. I feel if we say Son of God is His title we also are saying Jesus is not the only begotten Son of God conceived in Mary by the Spirit of God.
1 John 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. In my understanding of this verse, if we do not acknowledge that Jesus was and is the Son of God conceived in Mary, born of the tribe of Judah a descendant of David, we denieth the Son. We must believe and confess that Jesus is the Son of God, we must believe on the name of the Son of God.
John 19:6 - When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
The word "him" is not in their chant. They are just going, crucify, crucify, crucify, crucify, over and over again and people are being worked up into a frenzy.
John 19:7 - The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
Here's what it says in the Greek. It says, Son of God, not "the" Son of God, but just Son of God. That is a title. And to the Jews, it means God in the flesh. The word Son, HUIOUS, doesn't have anything to do with somebody who is born from a woman. This is somebody who's been placed in a position of inheritance.
He's the one that inherits all things from God. The word TEKNON, for a child who has been born, is never used of Jesus Christ. That is why when people say "Well if He is the Son of God, how can He be God? He's not a Son by birth. He is a Son in the Jewish social frame of mind of the receiver of the inheritance. The Jews knew what that meant. So, they came and said here's His title. He says He's Son of God.
John 20:1 - The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
It says, "the first day of the week," but I would like to share some technical things as to how this language works.
In the Greek text, it literally says, "the first of the Sabbath's," plural! In the scriptures, the Sabbath Day is singular and the weekdays are plural. So, you have the Sabbath Day, and then you have the Sabbath Days, which are used to denote the weekdays.
This is the first day of the week, Sunday. This Sunday is the first Sunday after Passover, which means the Sabbath of Passover has passed. The Sabbath of Saturday, the normal Sabbath, has passed. And now we are into Sunday.
John 18:23 - Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
If I have spoken evil, (literally inappropriately), bear witness of the evil: but if I have spoken well, (that is, according the lines of the law), why do you smite me?
John 18:35 - Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Here, the Greek text expects the answer no. "I am not a Jew, am I?"
John 18:36 - Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Literally, it is in the Imperfect Tense with a Subjunctive Particle that means, "Up until now, my servants would have been fighting if my kingdom is from out of the earth as a source, so that I would not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from here."
John 19:1 - Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
So, Pilate takes Jesus, and scourged (MASTIGOO) him, the MASTIKS. The whipping of Jews and the whipping of the Romans are two different kinds. The Jews had ropes with pieces of metal and glass and bone all wrapped up in these strips and they will take someone and tie them up and just take the whip and beat them. But they will only beat them 39 times. Why 39, I'm not sure?
Most people never made it through the whipping before they died. And if they didn't die, they were taken to the cross with all of their insides showing.
It was a terrible thing to go through. The Roman way was even worse. They didn't just use ropes, but they used a solid rod like a fishing rod to make the whipping have more leverage. They too had the cat-o-nine tails, the glass and the lead, and the rocks. And they would beat you for as long as they wanted to. That's what they did to Jesus. They beat Him.
Eternal security is an objective fact; assurance of salvation is a subjective experience.
Eternal security is not in the realm of experience, and therefore is totally independent of a person's feelings; assurance of salvation is truly an experience - an inner consciousness and confidence that a right relationship exists between the soul and God.
Eternal security rests upon certain objective facts that are established and sure; it depends upon God's faithfulness. A simple illustration will clarify this point. The Battle of Bunker Hill is a fact in American history. You and I did not experience the Battle of Bunker Hill, and our feelings are, therefore, no guide to the accuracy of history concerning it.
Eternal security rests upon what God says!
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. ( 1 John 5:12)
The most wonderful statement in the Bible (or out of the Bible, for that matter) is Romans 8:1 -
There is, therefore, now no condemnation to them who are in Christ Jesus..
In conjunction with this verse are verses 33 and 34 of the same chapter:
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? Shall God that justifieth? Who is he that condemneth? Shall Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us?
The throne of God is behind every sinner who has trusted in Jesus. Christ's work of redemption is adequate enough to secure the perfect salvation for the sinner who trusts Him. If not, then the work of Christ was of no avail, and it was not a finished transaction but must be written down as "unfinished business." However, He, as it were, wrote over His cross, "It is finished" ( John 19:30).
"I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performeth all things for me./He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up."
Prayer is confirmation that everlasting covenant is working and also works well. While trouble dby vague fears prayer helps and while beset by disasters. "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: But the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: Not one of them is broken. (Ps.34;18-22). Here we have a Messianic prophesy and it was fulfilled according the Word as was spoken. ( John 19:33)
Psalmist is certain that God performs all things for me/ What is he referencing? The covenant stipulates blessing on man who trusts in him. God has already called, predestined and justified whosoever places his trust in Jesus Christ. "Blessed are all they that put their trust in him."(Ps,2:12b)
Heaven is just a cry away as this Psalm tells us, "In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears./Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth./There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it....He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters."(Ps.18:12-18) What we require is trust and how he does it is not for us to know. God gave us the indwelling Spirit and we only need place our trust in our Saviour Lord. For every child of God there is a safe place He has created. "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." God made angels, spirits 'and his ministers a flaming fire'. "I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have my being."(Ps.104:33)
"And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus." God chose a Hellenized name for his son, that itself speaks the core value of his Advent. He is a sign, meaning the word concerning has been said and it is beyond recall. God's calling and gifts are irrevocable. A body has he prepared for him and in him whosoever chosen shall have body quality of which to say the least is heavenly. It is a spiritual body. For those who are planted after our likeness it shall be a glorious body. There is a difference. "And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly."(1 Co.15:49) In his humanity he tasted death for everyone. So his name is Hellenized and not Joshua, As the Word he was with God before Abraham. "Before Abraham was, I am". God had besides made him After the order of Melchizedek. "The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek."Ps.110:3 TheSpirit uses "Forever" which tag is to establish His kingship and Priesthood is independent of what is accorded to David. In v.32 according to his humanity he is the son of David. So our glorious body is set for everlasting to everlasting. His ministry of reconciliation covered both Jews and the Gentiles. Hence this Hellenic name. At his crucifixion the superscription on the cross was also written, " and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin."( John 19:20)
For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren."(He.2:11)
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David/And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end." An indication of this we see in Re.Ch.6:2 "and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer." He is seen in Re.19:16
"A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about." (v.34)
In order to understand the significance we shall examine from the life of our Saviour.
The golden bell alternating with a pomegranate upon the hem round about we need not count which is pure speculation. The robe of Aaron signified righteousness which refers to the robe that Jesus wore. "now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout./They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled." ( John 19:23-24)This robe signified a quality of great import that the Spirit inspired the holy man of old to mention it.
It was of one colour and was one long piece of woven work: "And he made the robe of the ephod of woven work, all of blue".(Ex.39:22) The bells, with pomegranates "And they made upon the hems of the robe pomegranates of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen"(39:24) the righteousness was Person specific. The four in number establishing Jesus Christ as the Word become flesh. It was thus we see Jesus among a crowd.( Luke 8:455-48).
The woman with an issue of blood touched his hem,"and immediately her issue of blood stanched./And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me."
The golden bell signifies faith and it made connect instantly.
The woman suffered for 12 years just as Jairus' daughter was 12 years old, "For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age,"(8:42). Luke groups two healings where the Spirit sets a tag on both so how we interpret his healing cannot go wrong. He sent his word and healed them from their destructions. Tag for gospel of Christ is 12. (Ps.107:20)
The nation of Israel gave Imperial Rome their mind when they brought Jesus before the governor. "But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar." ( John 19:15). It is is to this Jesus referred, 'this is your hour of darkness."
This hour associates with Israel while the day is decreed for the Son. Along this day several kings shall rise and Israel's hour with them merely paves the way for judgment. "These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast./These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.(17:13-14).
The woman who was taken on the eagle's wings to a place in the wilderness prepared of God shall redeem as mentioned in Re.7:4-8 by stepping into the breach as Jesus did. The Spirit clues us early on with the example of Seth. Jesus as the intercessor before his advent and also after his resurrection. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. (He.13:8) The twelve tribes have given over to the Gospel of Christ in terms of grace and truth. 144,000 with the Lamb on Mount Sion and these 144,000 reveal grace and truth which came by Jesus Christ. Moses gave the law which was inadequate as this body witnesses.
The woman in the wilderness (17:3) is set for perdition. "So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns."
our Savior our priest and the only mediator between us, and God was tempted as we are tempted, would not this temptation only be valid if he could succumb to temptation and was able to sin?
As you said,
I know we have discussed this in the past and yes we know each other stance on this.
However, let me share my understanding on this from what I have gathered and some from this very site.
When dealing with whether Christ could have sinned, the short answer is no He's God. I know we don't agree on that so no need for a debate there.
Now, one would ask "how could God (IN THE FLESH) be tempted? That's who Christ was here on earth. God in the flesh. 1 Timothy 3:16.
You referenced Hebrews 4:15. It reads "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
This doesn't say Jesus was tempted to sin as if he had a sin nature inherited from Adam.
The word tested here is "peiraz" which is to test (objectively) that is endeavor, scrutinize entice discipline: - assay examine go about to prove.
Christ was tested while in the flesh and "can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
This doesn't mean he is fighting back the urge to sin! It means he's being enticed but yet his testing was to prove him.
You see an example of the word temptation being used this way in James 1:12. The word here is peirasmos. It means putting to proof (by experiment [of good] experience [of evil] solicitation discipline or provocation); by implication adversity: - temptation.
Also;
The mocking Christ on the cross was not a test. He was where he wanted to be and doing what he came to do.
They had no power over him and the nails didn't hold him to that cross, love did.
And so we see Faith in its greatest display here: that full 'persuasion' meant that nothing else mattered when the desperate need for help & restoration drove one person to the only One Who can deliver & heal. And of course, with Nicodemus, John 19:39,40 reveals that he, along with Joseph of Arimathaea, tended with all care to the lifeless Body of Jesus, having believed the Words of Jesus given to Him at the first & now fully persuaded even identifying with Jesus in His Death.
It appears that Nicodemus was now a new man, grieving over Jesus & separated from the rest of his company of murderous colleagues who no doubt were overcome with joy at Jesus' Death & the end of their problems. I also wonder if that woman's faith held up strongly after her healing & realization that all Jesus had done to her & for others, none other could do "except God be with Him". Blessings.
Many follow the tradition of Jesus being crucified on Friday called Good Friday. Jesus fulfilled the Passover and is our Passover so if we look in Exodus 12:3-6 the lamb was taken up on the 10th of Nisan and killed on the 14th in the evening before sunset.
Passover day is one day it is a preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread and is separate from the 7-day feast of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which is 7 days from the 15th to the 21st. Today as back then some call it either Passover or the Feast of Unleavened Bread and is 8 days, you can look at a calendar and you will see Passover is 8 days.
If we look at John 12:1-12 it is 6 days before Passover and the next day Jesus rode into Jerusalem, that would be 5 days before Passover making it the 10th that is called today Palm Sunday. This is the day the lambs were to be taken up that is the reason the money changers were there they were selling lambs and other animals for sacrifice to all the people who traveled to Jerusalem for Passover.
So, if Sunday, the first day of the week was the 10th and Passover day when the lambs were sacrificed, Thursday would be the 14th. When Jesus told them to go and prepare the upper room was on Wednesday and when the sunset it would be the beginning of Passover day when the Last Supper. The Last Supper was not a Passover meal because the lambs were not killed until the afternoon of that same day.
We see John 19:14 is the preparation of the Passover, that is Passover day the 14th, Thursday when Jesus was crucified, and He died at 3 PM the same time they were sacrificing the Passover lambs that would have been eaten that night the 15th the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
The Jewish day starts at sundown, the Last Supper was at the beginning of Passover day the 14th and Jesus was crucified the morning of the same day, died at 3 PM the same day, and was buried before the sun set the same day the 14th, Thursday.
Daniel 9:24-27, in this prophecy, there are seventy weeks or 490 years determined unto Daniel's people and the holy city to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Have these 6 things been fulfilled in Jesus the Messiah, and the judgment of it carried out in 70 AD? If so, all of this prophecy has been fulfilled in the past.
1 To finish the transgression. To break or violate, as a law, civil or moral; the act of transgressing. Psalms 32:1Isaiah 53:5-11Romans 4:14-15Galatians 3:18-19Hebrews 9:14-15.
2 To make an end to sins. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Matthew 1:21Hebrews 10:8-11John 1:291 Corinthians 15:31 John 3:5Psalm 32:1Romans 3:21-26Romans 8:3.
3 To make reconciliation for iniquity. Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement. Colossians 1:20-22Isaiah 53:6Isaiah 53:11Romans 5:11Ephesians 2:16Titus 2:142 Corinthians 5:18-19.
4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. In conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will. Isaiah 61:10-11Romans 3:21-26Romans 5:17-212 Corinthians 5:211 Peter 2:24.
5 To seal up the vision and prophecy. The greatest prediction, which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus. Daniel 9:23Matthew 11:11-15Mark 1:14-15John 5:36-40John 6:27Acts 3:18.
6 To anoint the most holy. The high priest went into the holy of holies once a year with the blood of a sacrificed bull. Jesus our high priest with His own blood anointed the most holy not made with hands once and for all, forever. Hebrews 9:6-14.
We think mainly of Jesus dying on the cross as the Passover Lamb. But how about all the other animal sacrifices that the law required? If we look closer, we can see what all Jesus fulfilled that day. This Passover day started when the sun went down and Jesus and His 12 gathered together for the Last Supper.
After midnight they went into the garden of Gethsemane from there Jesus was betrayed by a friend, Psalm 41:9 and more, taken to Annas and then Caiaphas, and then early that morning to Pilate to be judged where no fault was found in Him.
At the same time, a priest was selected to carry a wooden beam on his shoulders up the ramp to light the fire of the altar of sacrifice. The first Tamid lamb was brought up and tied to the altar and inspected to make sure it did not have any blemishes.
Jesus was nailed to the cross and stood up on the 3rd hour 9 AM, Mark 15:25, the first Tamid lamb was sacrificed and put on the altar of sacrifice on the 3rd hour 9 AM the first hour of prayer. All the sacrifices of the people were placed on top of the first Tamid lamb. The 2nd hour of prayer is the 6th hour, noon, Matthew 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
The 3rd hour of prayer coincided with the evening sacrifice, at the 9th hour 3 PM when the last Tamid lamb was sacrificed and put on top of all the sacrifices of the people done that day. This was the exact time Jesus cried out and said it was finished Mark 15:34John 19:30.
God told Abraham to sacrifice his son and just before he did, God provided a ram for Isaac, and on that day the 14th of Nisan God provided Himself another Lamb, His only begotten Son sacrificed for us. Jesus also carried the wood for his sacrifice. Jesus fulfilled all the sacrifices, not just down to the day, but to the very hour itself.
The other day I discussed roles of men and women; and showed the case of Miriam and good and bad things about her behavior.
This situation shows how in general how a true Prophet can have certain sins that cause a downfall. Another example is in 1 Kings 13 starting in verse 11. His disobedience in stopping anywhere to eat on his journey back from a prophetic mission cost him his life. This story shows not only his disobedience; but the obstinance of the other prophet who enticed him to eat with him. The Spirit entered him much as it did with Balaam after he accepted the offer with a true word from God (in this case about his demise). We could look at Cephus as another example in John 11:50. So we can see several situations here:
1. A TRUE Prophet that errs in obedience to God
2. A FALSE Prophet that the Lord still uses to some extent for His purposes
3. Someone not designated as a Prophet who still says something to that affect.
We could look at the third example in the case of Pontius Pilate; who put the inscription in Matthew 27:37 on being the King of the Jews. John 19:22 further expounds on this theme in Pilate's declaration that it should stand. Whether his reasonings were mocking; or an honest assesment of his innocence could be questioned-it is clear that he never came to true repentance even if his sins were less serious than those of the others who were complicit or outright demanded he be crucified and a murder (Barabbas) released.
The story of Balaam in Numbers 22 should teach us some object lessons as well. One may assume that his story was an ancient tale and not of any importance today other than looking for false prophecies in general. This isn't true because this man was hired for money and we see evidence in the last days of those looking for "filthy lucre" ( 1 Timothy 3 and a couple other places in the N.T.) To say what a megachurch Pastor wants to hear to draw multitudes occurs today.
In John 12:1-16 this is 6 days before Passover and Jesus rides into Jerusalem the next day which would be the 10th, the day the lambs are taken up five days before Passover day which is called today Palm Sunday.
Each day is recorded in Matthew 21 through Matthew 27:56Mark 11:1 through Mark 15:41Luke 19:28 through Luke 23:49John 12:1 through John 19:37.
On the 1st day of the week, we call Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem and returned to Bethany in the evening to lodge.
The second day shows Jesus going to Jerusalem and returning to Bethany.
The third day is two days before Passover Matthew 26:2Mark 14:1.
On the fourth day, Judas makes the deal to betray Jesus and toward the end of the day, the disciples ask him where he wants them to prepare to eat the Passover. God commanded it to be eaten inside the city walls but they did not eat the Passover, Luke 22:15-16.
When the sun went down the fourth day what we call Wednesday is the beginning of Passover day the 14th of Nisan the day the Passover lambs are killed, Mark 14:12Luke 22:7. What confuses things is then and now Passover day and the Feast of Unleavened Bread is referred to as an eight-day feast. Passover day is a preparation day for the seven-day feast of Unleavened Bread not part of the seven-day feast.
The lambs were killed on the 14th in the evening, the time when the sun starts to go down, any time after noon and before the sun sets. The Passover is eaten the night of the 15th the first day of the seven-day feast which is a holy convocation/Sabbath Exodus 12:8 the same night they went out of Egypt not on Passover day.
The Lord's Supper and the crucifixion were on Passover day the fifth day from when Jesus rode into Jerusalem which would make that the 5th day of the week we call Thursday.
Jesus was ever dutiful Son who would while hanging on the cross entrusted the care of his mother to John, "When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!/Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home."( John 19:26-27). By literal approach how false teachers consistently strip passages of their pith and serve the husks instead. This is one example. Covenant between God and Man entrusts man with His creation and does he care?
God had prepared a worm as he a great fish to instruct Prophet Jonah. At the end of the book He tells Jonah,"And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?"( Jonah 4:11) Family of man is incomplete without this same care for His creation. The Four beasts in heaven is a memorial.
Pilgrims in 1630 settled in the Americas to make a New Canaan. However it was like sewing old garment to the new in the manner the divine Will was shortchanged. Salt crystal is made up of chlorine and sodium which by themselves have their distinctive characteristics. Sodium is metal, and corrosive while chlorine is a gas and poisonous. How billions of these atoms are precisely arranged by force keeping the formation gives the table salt its savor. In the manner culture wars have dogged the country tells making a family or nation without fulfilling the will of the Father is a non-starter. "And no man putteth new wine into old bottles: else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles."(2:22)
This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
(MacBeth; William Shakesphere 5th Act).
This quote is in the play regards the death of MacBeth's wife. There are shades of Ecclesiastes here of vanity and life passing as a vapor; but also the idea of the second part of this verse in 2 Corinthians 7:10...
"For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death." This verse shows the futility of those who; like Judas Iscariot regret the consequences of their sin; whether on themselves ultimately or how it affects others (in his case leading to suicide). We can see the same sort of mindset with Pilate who in John 19:11 was told that others had greater sin but nonetheless his attempts to release him were not out of reverence for His holiness but attempts to quell extremes of rebellion from both the Jews and the Romans in making a wrong decision. Ultimately; both these cases show cowardice which is one reason people will go to hell according to Revelation 21:8.
We shouldn't assume that emotion shouldn't accompany true repentence leading to salvation but that it is the Spirit which takes over and the emotions are part of a cleansing process. When given a new heart we are transformed from the inside out and can't help but cry out to God; as Isaiah did "woe is me" ( Isaiah 6:5). This shows the humble and contrite spirit David describes in Psalm 51 and elsewhere. Penitence from any other method assuming some goodness we have in ourselves apart from Christ is meaningless. This is what makes those from a Christian family background have to test themselves to see if they are in the faith ( 2 Cor. 13:5). We can't change our hearts from mere assent of doctrinal statements or scripture. More to come.
Those who went against God?
I hope this helps.

John 19:30 love u
Indeed, Israel and the Church will always be separate. Only when "Israel shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away" ( 2 Corinthians 3:15,16), and the 'mystery of the united Church of Jew & Gentile' be fully realized in all being gathered in. But I perceive that Israel shall endure much suffering, when at the end, the remnant among them will see the One Whom they pierced ( John 19:37: once at the crucifixion; and then finally reminded, affirmed and believed on at His second Coming, Zechariah 12:9-11). Blessings.
John 3:29
"This joy is now mine, it is complete."

The plot started with how to kill Jesus, Matthew 21:18- Matthew 25:46, Mark 11:12 through Mark 13:37, Luke 22:38. Matthew, Mark, and Luke cover Jesus' teachings in the temple, parables, and the Olivet discourse.
Day three, 12th of Nisan, is two days until Passover, Matthew 26:2-13, Mark 14:1-2. The plot to kill Jesus got more intense.
See part 2
Part 2

In whom we haveredemptionthrough his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
We now have the complete word of God. The The other stuff faded away. We are left with the Holy Spirit and the Word of Truth.
1 Corinthians 15:9-10
9For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
May we believe.
Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
The word of truth is the gospel of grace.
God bless,
RLW
Brother in the highest respect I know we disagree on this you understand that the Son of God is a title. You said about huios; quote "doesn't have anything to do with somebody who is born from a woman. This is somebody who's been placed in a position of inheritance." end quote. To me that would be saying Jesus was figuratively the son of God.
The two Greek words you use huios and teknon. Huios means properly, a son by birth or adoption; Jesus was Son by birth and we as believers become figuratively a son/huios of God being adopted and heirs of the promise through the only begotten Son of God Jesus, 1 John 3:2 Romans 8:23.
In love, God bless,
RLW
Part 2.
See Part 3.
Part 1.
You stated; "We are told
our Savior our priest and the only mediator between us, and God was tempted as we are tempted, would not this temptation only be valid if he could succumb to temptation and was able to sin?
Christ was tested while in the flesh and "can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
Also;
The mocking Christ on the cross was not a test. He was where he wanted to be and doing what he came to do.
They had no power over him and the nails didn't hold him to that cross, love did.
He could have come down any time he wanted to.
He was in control, not them! John 19:9-11.
See Part 2.
The tempting of Satan.
God bless,

Hey brother just one last thing to consider.
Psalms 32:1 Isaiah 53:5-11 Romans 4:14-15 Galatians 3:18-19 Hebrews 9:14-15.
2 To make an end to sins. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Matthew 1:21 Hebrews 10:8-11 John 1:29 1 Corinthians 15:3 1 John 3:5 Psalm 32:1 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 8:3.
3 To make reconciliation for iniquity. Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement. Colossians 1:20-22 Isaiah 53:6 Isaiah 53:11 Romans 5:11 Ephesians 2:16 Titus 2:14 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.
4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. In conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will. Isaiah 61:10-11 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 5:17-21 2 Corinthians 5:21 1 Peter 2:24.
5 To seal up the vision and prophecy. The greatest prediction, which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus. Daniel 9:23 Matthew 11:11-15 Mark 1:14-15 John 5:36-40 John 6:27 Acts 3:18.
6 To anoint the most holy. The high priest went into the holy of holies once a year with the blood of a sacrificed bull. Jesus our high priest with His own blood anointed the most holy not made with hands once and for all, forever. Hebrews 9:6-14.
Jesus said it in John 19:28-30.
God bless,
RLW
This was the exact time Jesus cried out and said it was finished Mark 15:34 John 19:30.

Each day is recorded in Matthew 21 through Matthew 27:56 Mark 11:1 through Mark 15:41 Luke 19:28 through Luke 23:49 John 12:1 through John 19:37.
On the 1st day of the week, we call Sunday, Jesus rode into Jerusalem and returned to Bethany in the evening to lodge.
The second day shows Jesus going to Jerusalem and returning to Bethany.
The third day is two days before Passover Matthew 26:2 Mark 14:1.
On the fourth day, Judas makes the deal to betray Jesus and toward the end of the day, the disciples ask him where he wants them to prepare to eat the Passover. God commanded it to be eaten inside the city walls but they did not eat the Passover, Luke 22:15-16.
When the sun went down the fourth day what we call Wednesday is the beginning of Passover day the 14th of Nisan the day the Passover lambs are killed, Mark 14:12 Luke 22:7.
God bless,
