The one hundred forty four thousand in Revelation 7 are the Old Testament saints that were raised with Christ at his resurrection.

The very station in life that your friend finds demeaning is rather a great honor and a gift from God.

From the beginning, man was created to work for God ( Genesis 2:15). The woman was then specially created as the help most suitable to accomplish that purpose ( Genesis 2:20-25).

The Lord's value system is quite opposite what the world judges worthwhile. If your friend knows the forgiveness and redemption gained by Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross and his resurrection from the dead, then she has an eternal purpose and reward in the perfect will of God. ( 1 Corinthians 15:58, 1 Peter 3)

Being an excellent mother carries a far greater weight of glory and influence than any of the vain achievements or self promotion touted in this world's marketplace. ( Proverbs 31:10-31)

Hello Roger. Hebrews directly connects to the previous chapter, a chapter which is generally referred to as the 'Gallery of Faith Heroes'. In there, as you would know, is a lengthy description of some well known Old Testament saints, of their faith, their love for God in spite of the many troubles they faced. But all these "received a good report through faith" but did not receive the promise: "God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect." ( Hebrews 11:39,40). They might have known the promises of God & certainly knew of God's Presence & Power with them, yet those Promises did not find their fulfillment in their lifetimes. But they continued undeterred IN FAITH, knowing that God had something special that lay ahead for them.

So then chapter 12 comes into focus (for us). Seeing then that we are surrounded by such a great (eminent) group of witnesses, how are we to behave. So departing from the personal exhortation the Hebrews writer gave in chapter 10:22-25 towards holy living, he now implores us by the witness of these saints of old. Here, it is difficult to discern whether the writer believed that we have all these sages looking down upon us & our behaviour, or more likely, that we have yet another imperative to godly living because of the lives that these men & women lived, in spite of the odds against them. They didn't even consider their lives of any worth in comparison to what God had for them in the afterlife.

Hebrews 12:1,2 then reminds us that we not only have these great examples of faith, of perseverance & resilience before us, but even much more than all this, we have JESUS, Who not only is the Designer, the Forerunner & Completer of (our) Faith, but the One Who took the meaning of suffering to its fullest extent (much more than what those in chapter 11 had done), in that He willingly laid down His Life for us. "He Who knew no sin became sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him".

The Spirit has revealed to you HIS truth in your reply to Karen. The promise was the indwelling of the Holy Spirit (immortal life by Christ); but this was not possible without RESURRECTION; therefore, we and the saints of the old testament also became partakers of HIS RESURRECTION.

Now I'm not sure if all Israel and the prophets and priests knew that all the sacrifices and works in the old tabernacle was pointing to Christ but i believe John the baptist knew, that's what his baptism was about and it was for the Jews, he prepared the way for Christ.

And maybe Abraham, he dwelt in tents looking for a city whose maker was God.

Hebrews 11:9-10. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

This would perhaps be the New Jerusalem,

I believe their veil we being taken away is what we see in Hebrews 11:8 when God says he will write his laws in their hearts, "not stoney tablets" for ALL shall know me, That's the work of the Holyspirit, "spirit of truth" Jesus told the disciples to wait on the Holyspirit before they go on with there mission.

So the promise was not to be completed under the old covenant because it could not be complete without the new heart.

I would like to reply to your question. So going back to Genesis 22 is the story of Abraham offering up his son Isaac. Which I believe is stated to be a test of faith from God to Abraham. Hebrews 11:7, James 2:21-23. To see how deep his faith truly was. Not just faith but faith by works.

As this topic has come up before I will share my beliefs with some Scripture to it. As another stated also, I do not say Jesus Christ is God the Father. I believe as God is eternal that instead of Him being alone why not have a Son whom is perfect in every aspect just as He is. To be in Him and with Him always in His heart and in His bosom John 1:18 for companionship (that actually just came to me today as I was standing outside praising the Lord).

I usually state Jesus Christ as Lord along with thirty other names I know by heart that I call Him while in prayer. I do not call Him God personally. Although He is one with God and I believe He is the Word of God(as it states in Revelation 19:13. Also some titles the Father and Son share are Lord of lords, Alpha and Omega, Savior. As in the OT, using only one verse as there are many, that there is no Saviour but the LORD. Isaiah 43:11. Through out the NT God and Jesus Christ are both stated as our Saviour. Just some Titus 1:3, Titus 1:4, Titus 3:4, Titus 3:6.

So as you have your own beliefs, and just as well I have mine, I will stop here as I don't want to quarrel or argue any more about this. I believe Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God is eternal just as the Father and has always been with the Father. Yes His physical life came to this earth being born of Mary. As He had to suffer death for us as a perfect sacrifice or offering for our sins. Which is very honorable and why the Father honors Him higher than any other being. Even the highest Holy angels. Hebrews 1:4.

And about Him being at the Fathers right hand Steven saw this before He was stoned in Acts 7:55-56. So it's not just a metaphor. God Bless

This chapter is a vision of the finished work of the cross.

Revelation 15:1 ....having the seven last plagues, in them (plagues) is filled up the wrath of God.

These plagues had to be fulfilled before the kingdom of heaven is possible.

(vs 2) The sea is symbolic of people ( Revelation 17:15) the fire is symbolic of Christ ( Hebrews 12:29) these have become one with Christ ( John 17:21)( Ephesians 2:15).

(vs 3-4) The praises to God for their salvation.

(vs 5) Access to the temple is near. The temple is symbolic of Christ. Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up ( John 2:19)

(vs 6-7) The wrath of God is now ready to be poured out.

(vs 8) .....no man is able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels be fulfilled.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him...

THE WRATH OF GOD WAS POURED OUT ON CHRIST, the last plague being death; now we can enter the temple (CHRIST IN YOU AND YOU IN CHRIST) Christ has become our PASSOVER LAMB, death has passed over us.

Hebrews 11:5 By FAITH Enoch was TRANSLATED that he should not see death .....

Colossians 1:13 .... and hath TRANSLATED us into the kingdom of his dear Son

I think if we also take Hebrews 11:29 and connect the story to these 2 passages it may shed some light on your questions.

Hebrews 11:29. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.

When Water Baptism is taken place we're professing being Identified with the death and resurrection of Christ and Baptized here in 1 Corinthians 10-2 is used the same way, The children of Israel is Identified with Moses when they crossed the red sea. "By faith they passed through the Red sea" By who's faith? their owns? NO "They crossed over by Moses faith " They was Identified with him. When we read the story we see they were scared, They wanted to go back to Egypt.

Hi Beatrice, I do believe Abel was following instructions when he offered his sacrifice because he offered it by faith, and faith comes by hearing the word.

Hebrews 11:4. By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Genesis 4: 3-4 Cain offered the fruit of the ground but Abel offered the(( firstling ))of the flock.

I believe Cain sacrifice was the work of own hands and God rejected it.

Hebrews 11:39-40 And these all (old testament saints), having obtained a good report through (the work of the Spirit of Christ or the Holy Ghost which is) faith, received not the promise (eternal life, incorruption, immortality):

(vs) 40 God (Spirit) having provided some better thing for us (children of the resurrection), that they (old testament saints) without us (children or the resurrection) should not be made perfect (complete in the Spirit of Christ or the Holy Ghost who only hath immortality 1 timothy 6:16).

John 11:25 ..... I am the resurrection......

Verse 9- Abraham had a great amount of faith in Jehovah God because he didn't know much about the land he was going to or what he would encounter along the way but he trusted in God completely.

Steven, that's a very worthy desire you have towards God's Word. One can do no better than to store God's Word in one's heart. By it your spirit will be refreshed as you meditate on it wherever you find yourself, & by it God's Spirit can minister His Word when sin prods or difficulties arise. You may not always recall the Bible by chapter & verse, especially as age starts to diminish the memory, but hiding the Word in your heart will bring to mind the needed verse. Psalm 119:11.

The only way I know to memorize Scriptures is to select one & repeat it over again until you absorb it. Then continue to recall it over the succeeding days. Which Scriptures to memorize? Start with those that are most meaningful to you as you read the Bible. I think most of us started off with John 3:16, but in time you can begin to memorize more of that chapter. Then each day pick a new verse or verses to memorize.

To understand Scripture, you are wholly cast upon God's Spirit to reveal not only the meaning of the verse, but to apply it to your understanding & life. Of course, there will always be Bible portions that are hard to understand. Firstly, one must know the setting, the people, the era, God's Covenant & His requirements, even the history of the land to properly understand why verses are written the way they are. There are Bible encyclopedias, on Jewish history, even the Web that can provide you valuable information. You will learn over time which web sites consistently provide proper truthful information. Other helps are, Dictionaries, Concordances, Commentaries, Lexicons, Interlinear Bibles, Atlases/maps, & a good Study Bible is very useful as they often have some of the above helps in a condensed format. For sake of space, I can't give more descriptions of the above Bible Tools. I use a Ryrie Study Bible, but there are many great ones available. This verse is really not so difficult when you know God loves you , and he does .

Faith worketh by love .

Focus should be on where we are going and not where we are coming from. Dont focus on the Egypt that God took you out of but the promised land you are going to. If you think so much of Egypt, you will return as the Israelites desired. Set your affections on things above Col. 3:1
