Hello Jannelle. I'm unsure what you are seeking as proof of Jacob's age at his death. We do have Genesis 47:28: "And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years." If this verse isn't sufficient evidence, I doubt if anyone could dig up any other records to confirm this age, unless someone at the time of his death made some other record or inscribed this information on a rock or something. Till date, nothing else has surfaced, so we, as do the Jews, have to accept the age given in Genesis as true.

    Sacha,

God does everything for me too. I took a nap this afternoon, and upon awakening, there was a freshly baked apple pie sitting atop my kitchen table. I think my niece is the mediator of baked goods, but as far as I'm concerned, it may as well be God.

    Jannelle,

Your question is timely for me because I have been watching Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris pick Christianity apart word by word. I believe in God, but the way a neuroscientist lays down the argument is compelling and thought provoking. God gave us the ability to wonder, and the sense to question everything as best we can. It is surprising how much we do not know, and how much we will never know.
  • Chris - In Reply on Ezekiel 37 - 5 years ago
Hi Babatope. No. Ezekiel was a contemporary of the prophet Jeremiah. He was taken with the other hostages into captivity in Babylon & his ministry was to those with him in captivity. Jeremiah in the meanwhile, ministered to the Jews in Palestine.

So Ezekiel was around approximately 400 years after King David took the throne. Therefore Ezekiel 37:24's reference to "David my servant" can only apply to the One who would come after David, in the same family line as David, & would eventually fulfill the rest of that Scripture: "(he) shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd: they shall also walk in my judgments, and observe my statutes, and do them."

As King David came through the line of Judah, so would the coming King be of that lineage & will not only be King, but also the "Great Shepherd of the sheep", both to the houses of Judah, Israel & also the Gentiles who are saved. And Isaiah 11:1-5 and Jeremiah 23:5,6 speak of this coming One out of Jesse & David - and His Name of course, is Jesus.

    Hi Norman,

Just as you stated there are mixed beliefs on "where we go when we die". As Adam has posted a thread for you with numerous posts on this subject.

I will bring another point up. If anyone has done any research on NDE's or "near death experiences" where people die physically, come back to life, and have experiences. There are many and of coarse they are personal though some have things that are alike or similar. Things like out of body experiences where the person sees their dead body etc, angels, being brought into paradise/Heaven, seeing dead relatives, even some people experience a place they would call hell. People meeting Jesus Christ. Like said many, many, experiences. Some people die, and are brought back, and have no experience.

After coming to the Lord I was lead to meet a man who was killed, with two other friends, in a head on collision with a truck on a highway. His Testimony, shortened, was he and his two friends(in their spirit or ghost) ended up walking down the street from where the accident was. A light appeared and they were all standing before Jesus Christ. He was told he had to come back and his two friends went with the Lord. As I don't know about the two friends, who did not make it, he was an atheist when this happened. Though after the miracle of him coming back to life the first thing he spoke about was seeing Jesus Christ. As now he has his own ministry and has been leading people to the Lord ever since.

In reality what happens after we die, I believe, is unique with each person. I myself have faith that those who are with the Lord shall never see death. Going to be with Him where He is when our physical life ends. John 11:25-26.

One day we will all find out. To be with the Lord Jesus Christ, follow Him in His ways, doing the Will of our Father and producing good fruit in the Spirit are the ways to life. Live to please the Father and serve Him, with a pure heart, and there should be nothing to fear.

    God Bless.
  • How Can We Help Others Be Saved - 5 years ago
The first consideration is the realization that one of God's greatest desires is the salvation of all mankind. God's desire is clearly stated.

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19 says, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.

This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth ( 1 Timothy 2:3-4).

It is God's desire that all should be saved. He loves you so much that He gave His one and only son as a ransom to pay for our sins.

    Why pray

We should, we must, pray for the Salvation of others. What we are doing is asking God to move in their lives. Jesus said that He came to "seek and to save the lost" ( Luke 19:10). Jesus does the seeking and the Holy Spirit opens their heart. If you want to see someone's heart healed and their eternal future secured, you must be praying. Pray helps open the door to Jesus. Jesus taught that we "ought always to pray and not lose heart" ( Luke 18:1).

Why are so many still unsaved

If it is God's desire that all should be saved, then why are so many people still unsaved? 2 Corinthians 4:4 tells us the god of this world [the devil] has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Do not give up praying for others. While God will not force a person to accept and love Him, He can and does work hard to bring them to Himself by giving the person ideas, thoughts, dreams, visions, laborers to talk with them, and designing circumstances in their life to bring them face to face with the love of God.

In prayer, keep breaking Satan's power in their life, binding Satan, and claiming their salvation. Continuous prayer is powerful and faith does not give up. 1 Corinthians 13

I will add to this tomorrow. Mishael

    Hi Jannelle

It was told to me one time that "God doesn't leave us but rather we leave God" we leave as in Galatians 5:15-21,

lusts of the flesh, but we also return to God as in Galatians 5:22-26 when we seek the fruits of the Spirit. I hope this helps.

John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

    Hello Norman,

There is a discussion about your exact question currently. My belief is what the scripture says, found at the bottom of that page. Everyone will sleep until they await judgment only then will people go to heaven or hell.

Hi Levi, another small tip in the power of God is to take the blame wholly upon ourselves when we error. Often our errors involve other people too, but it does not matter. This is particularly true for husbands. Stay courageous. God bless your life and your witness as time continues.

    Hi chip.

the lord want be singling out just murderers.

james 2:6-13. but ye have despised the poor. do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?

do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

if ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

but if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

for whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

( for he that said, do not commit adultery, said also, do not kill. now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. )

so speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

for he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

1 corinthians 6:9-11. know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of god? be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,

nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of god.

and such were some of you: ( but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the lord jesus, and by the spirit of our god.

galatians 5:19-21. now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, ( and such like: ) of the which i tell you before, as i have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of god.

im sure we're all guilty of one of these.

    question is

how are judged? do you feel confident enough to stand alone without the sacrificial lamb?

    im not.

thank you lord for forgiving and strengthening me.

    god bless

Brother Chip, MAY CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Have you ever stopped to think that YOU murdered CHRIST; not only you, but everyone born in a body of flesh.

If God does not save MURDERERS then we are all LOST.

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hates his brother is a MURDERER: and you know that no murderer has eternal life (Christ) abiding in him.

Revelation 21:8 But the FEARFUL, and UNBELIEVING,.... MURDERERS...ALL LIARS... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone....

I have a question that has been on my mind a lot. I see on here mixed feeling about one subject and that is when we die where do we go. Some say we will just die and not go to Heaven or hell just die and I have always been taught from the time I was 10 years old or so and went to Church that if you are not a Godly person then you will go to hell and if you are a good God fearing person and saved you will go to Heaven. So I would like to know the real truth about it and I know Jesus said not many will make it to Heaven and I also wonder about that? Thanks

One thing some anabaptists congregations have in common with some other Christian congregations is A cappella singing. One favorite song of mine is sung by the Cole Quartet as part of a church singing website. The song, "At the feet of God".

Brother Fred, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Not ALL that respond to your comments understand;YET, that ALL is OF GOD.

GOD always uses man to bring about HIS JUDGEMENTS. History making; of trivial, ALL IS OF GOD.

Pharoah, The king of Assyria, Hitler and ALL others through history.

Paul said he KILLED CHRIST CHURCH through ignorance. All of us begin in ignorance not knowing the works of God.

Praise God for the works of Christ; who knows what's necessary to conform us into him.

Hi Cheryl, looks like you have many answers.

Most of us will face this, Death. Do we sleep in the earth until the resurrection, or go to heaven to be with the Lord? Regardless of which belief, there is no knowledge, no love, no hate, no work, no thoughts, no wisdom, or time in death. Some scriptures can be used to support both beliefs but it is for you to decide in your heart. Can we say either belief is wrong?

When the gospel of Christ was given to the Gentiles, the countries around were highly influenced by Greek Philosophy and beliefs like what happens when we die, mythical stories of death, paradise, hades, underworlds on more were widely spread by the people who were Greek and they stuck. I know some will disagree but that's ok we are not talking about things that cannot be debated that, like the only hope we have for salvation and eternal life is the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I hope this is not offensive or confusing. I thought instead of answering I would do something different, just ask a few questions I had and wrote down, when I studied this a while back, may they help you decide for your conscience.

I believe our body is just the dwelling place of our soul, and our spirit (breath) given to us by God is what keeps us alive. ( Ecclesiastes 12:7) ( Psalm 104:29) ( Psalm 146:4) ( James 2:26)

If we say our soul (we/us) is immortal and we are appointed once to die, what dies?

What is resurrected if our soul is already in heaven?

We are sealed (earnest, the down payment) by the Holy Spirit until when?

    When are we redeemed?

Is our soul or our body the flesh that is corruptible and must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality?

When will we be absent from this body, is it when we die, or when we are resurrected?

When we meet Jesus in the air does scripture tell us where we go after we meet?

Again, I hope this is taken in love and not confusing, and may we be led by the Holy Spirit of truth.

Chip ,Moses wasnt prevented from entering into the promised land because of unbelief ,also ,strictly speaking Moses had not broken Gods law as the ten comandments had not been given by God when Moses killed the egyptian ,whatever we think about Moses God obviously saw something in him that He could use to fullfill His purpose , Moses could be said to be an example of Gods mercy and the fact that God sees straight into our heart ,even when we have sinned He knows exactly who we are ,all of us sin .
