Wesley's Notes for Genesis 18:14

18:12 Sarah laughed within herself - It was not a laughter of faith, like Abraham's, #Ge 17:17|, but a laughter of doubting and distrust. The great objection which Sarah could not get over was her age. I am waxed old, and past child - bearing in a course of nature, especially having been hitherto barren, and which magnifies the difficulty, My lord is old also. Observe here, That Sarah calls Abraham her lord, and the Holy Ghost takes notice of it to her honour, and recommends it to the imitation of all Christian wives, #1Pe 3:6|. Sarah obeyed Abraham calling him lord, in token of respect and subjection.

  • This is a very comforting verse to consider when we are going through hard times and may see no way out. Nothing is to great for Jehovah to handle or take care of. Things that may seem impossible from a human standpoint are not impossible for Jehovah.

"Sarah", looking at her age, doubted to be pregnant, the Bible said that she laughed... Meaning that.... ''can it be'', she must have forgotten that God is the omnipotent (The one who has the ability to accomplish His will). At the appointed time.

I think the verse is very helpful in times.of challenges that the world does not offer solutions to. The problems that people declare impossible, incurable diseases etc we should always know that with God everything is possible n quiet easier.
