Matthew 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

Luke 18:22 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, "You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

Luke 12:33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

The first two passages apply to a rich man who claimed to have followed the law; no doubt not at God's standards but nonetheless the main issue was his covetous heart related to possessions. The last passage was Jesus talking with His Disciples about His providing basic food and clothing needs (again; as I have emphasized before shelter even for Christ was a nomadic transient thing given His type of ministry).

Considering the meaning here we have to observe the whole pattern of valuing God over family; as Jesus Himself demonstrated when stating "who is my mother and brother ( Matt. 12:58); and then in the next two verses explains that the Disciples are such.

What we can't say is that Jesus wants us to forego all sources of work or financial plans. Jesus Himself worked for most of His adult life before the last few years of ministry; and Paul would provide for himself making tents; and also commended some wealthy women who were beneficial in the ministry. Money was to be set aside the first day of the week; etc.

I can also look in my own life to the house I own; legally I can't sell it even if I wanted to as it is in my Dad's name even though it goes to me when he passes.

What is clear to me is that all of our money should in the present and future plans be planned to support the Lord; in my case I don't have any children to support. Once we "retire" all our time should focus on ministry as health allows.

This year I decided, due to some events occuring in my life, to approach the lord closer than before. So I have spent a lot of time praying. And I am feeling the presence of the Lord more than ever before. Praying is essential to christians. It is not a monologue but a dialogue. God answers back by letting us feeling His presence which is joy and piece. The closer we go to God the closer he comes to us. But the past few months I do not spent so much time praying but I have started studying the Word of God more than ever before. This is also essential and necessary to christians. When the Lord sees the wish in our hearts to aproach Him by praying and studying He reveals to us things we didn't know before. God is like a tap of water. One drinks as much as he turns that tap, the more he turns it the more he drinks.

My volnerable side is the net. Once I am getting there I get lost reading all sort of different things. I like history a lot. All kind of history. And many other things like construction, engineering, anything really. I have always liked reading since a kid. So I spent much time there which I could spent in more necessary things (and my wife keeps telling me that!!!)

This as far as I am concerned. I wish your grandchildren grow in good health. And your sons and their families to come back to their Father's house where they belong to. Have a blessed week and month.

Dear Dee: I can relate; as my posting the other day stated of being alone on Thanksgiving for the first time myself.

As for the house; with my mom passed there is a brochure at least every other day along with the increasing online ads "buy home as is"; no doubt there are some reputable establishements where that can be expedited. Also in your situation there is something called a "reverse mortgage" if your home is paid off (Tom Selleck has a promo on that as you may have seen last year).

I would encourage you to look around with silver at 55 dollars an ounce; gold well above 4000 for any old coins or jewelry around.

Even copper is at all time highs.

My friend who used to be in the military but is physically too unhealthy to work anymore also is fairly estranged by family members; who aren't offering any help in his bankruptcy state that he just began to get legal counsel for. Because of this it was nice to help him out with a meal and shopping which I do fairly routinely on his behalf. Make sure to check out places as he does that have food pantries; as often only one is limited. Volunteer opportunities may be there as well.

Not sure where your kids are spiritually; as with my friend I suspect if they are professing believers they aren't living out their faith. Right now they are adults and I suspect if they are His children the Lord will have to chastise them for not concerning themselves about your needs and they need to check verses about those who don't take care of their own and scriptural warnings.

Since you are involved with church I suppose you could inquire about help with any benevolence funds; if you haven't already.

Not sure if another woman who is in your situation may have housing available or rental property that is decent. Finally of course you can rent your property to someone else usually (at least in my township); there is a form to be filled out for a nominal fee to allow you to rent.

    Keep being a prayer warrior.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. ( 1 Corinthians 15:12) (or 13:12).

I have been doing a deep dive into some secular music that is in the old progressive rock and sadly one or two of these groups directly mention pagan gods in their music. This is something I will have to monitor carefully; as some songs seem not to have any elements of this; and of course individuals in bands and music styles change over time. I could use prayer of wisdom as I am learning guitar and have a musical ear; and wish to honor the Lord but not get caught in the trap of hypnotic trance and other oppressive elements of certain music. This is even possible with certain classical music but much of it of the Baroque artists gives glory to God.

We all are led astray when following our own flesh and its natural desires. As with anything else; Satan can tempt us and not only may but WILL fool ALL unregenerate men who will be following the pied piper to eventually fight against Christ at Armageddon even after hiding from Him in the sixth seal knnowing what they've don no doubt.

We need to guard as much in our individual lives as we do with those we associate with. According to 1 Timothy 6:7-8

7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

Obsessing over our material gains and creature comforts isn't healthy for us. Again; it is a balance with my coin collecting as I have been able to work meticulously with purchasing under cost but I don't plan to invest beyond a certain limit and not at the expense of opportunities to serve the Lord through service; witnessing; etc. This is why I don't hold onto too much and sell frequently (also I don't want too much at home if something gets stolen).

Job also said that the Lord gives and takes away (someone in college told me that).

How Does Trust in God Translate into Daily Life? pt1

Hello to all, I have read somewhere the following:

Trust in God is not an abstract concept. It translates into specific practical behaviors and inner states that affect the way we live, think, and face challenges.

    1. In Dealing with Anxiety and Fear

    "Trust turns fear into peace"

Practical Translation: Instead of being paralyzed by worry about the future (job, health, finances), you do what you can and then leave the outcome in God's hands.

Inner State: You adopt the mindset: "I have done what is humanly possible. Now, I trust that God, who sees the big picture, will provide the best for me, according to His will." This brings inner peace ( Psalm 46:1).

    2. In Decision Making

"Trust provides guidance and removes uncertainty"

Practical Translation: Before making a big decision (career change, moving), you pray for guidance and wisdom, rather than relying solely on your own logical abilities.

Inner State: You recognize that God's wisdom surpasses your own. You trust that if you commit the decision to God, He will "He shall direct thy paths." ( Proverbs 3:5-6), even if the path seems unclear at first.

    3. In Interpersonal Relationships

"Trust in God affects how we view others and ourselves".

Practical Translation: When you feel wronged or hurt, instead of holding a grudge or seeking revenge, you trust God to bring justice or comfort. You focus on forgiveness.

Inner State: You rely on God's Love for your worth, rather than seeking constant validation from people. This makes you freer and less demanding in your relationships.

    4. In Trials and Difficulties

    "Trust turns pain into opportunity"

Practical Translation: When you face an illness or loss, you don't see the situation as a dead end, but as part of a larger plan.

Inner State: You believe that "all things work together for good to those who love God" ( Romans 8:28). This faith allows you to look for the lesson or empowerment hidden within the trial, keeping hope alive.

    Forgiveness, pt 1

The greek for "forgive" is "sygchoro". It comes from the words "syn" (plus, together, more) and "choros" (space). It actually means "together in a place". Or "to fit together in a place". Or "to give space to someone or something". Space where? In my heart. I make room in my heart so that my brother can fit there too. To broaden my heart so that there is always room for other people there.

To accept that they are people like me. And people make mistakes, just like I do. Nobody is perfect. Only God is.

When we are strict judges of our brothers, then God allows us to walk the same path that our brothers had gone through. And then we see how it really feels like. And we see how we ourselves behave. And we wouldn't want others to be strict judges of us, would we? That's how we become more merciful.

Psychologists say that love and forgiveness are medicine for our soul. They say that love and forgiveness drive away all the negative emotions (anger, bitterness, hate, etc) that destroy the heart and mental health of people. This is true. When we follow God's commandments, to love and forgive, the main effect is on ourselves. We are the ones who are healed, not the others.

(Moreover, we come to church to heal ourselves, not our brothers. The latter is God's job, not ours.)

And let's think. Shouldn't we first forgive ourselves? When we make a mistake, it's not the end of the world. We are not perfect, we make mistakes. Many people suffer because they cannot forgive themselves. This is called pride. And it is due to a lack of awareness of our true nature. We are human. We have our limits. And day after day we find our limits in front of us. In the workplace with our colleagues, at home with our families, with our friends, with our brothers. Let's not condemn ourselves, but let's give ourselves opportunities to change. We will never be perfect, but we can produce more and more fruit in our lives. And so the grace of God will be upon us.

Dying to self: Living as part of the Body of Christ

The title here sums up what I am starting to experience with my recent new church fellowship. I thought I should also mention in prayers that as I meet others in surrounding communities and churches if God has something else (especially closer to where I currently live) that is suggested to me I certainly will consider that also.

A large part of Christian identity involves the family; with the husband/wife component and kids and the whole congregation at large. The fact that there is always one or more that volunteer to get into in depth discussions is encouraging; as well as transparency about their own struggles. It has significantly expanded what I had experienced before this where the primary concern seemed to be if someone was in the hospital; or needed help which is of course something good and in fact it is encouraged for those who have more to help others where I attend (a Mennonite tradition). Just having most of the day with the service and meal afterwards is different (I could have stayed from morning to late evening with the wrap up of the kids week of Bible study but it was too much with the drive home). Specifically the guy from the other church encouraged me to share more on this whole divorce and remarriage issue; seemingly where I attend is the only place that believes as I do in all of Eastern PA and I have already met or been referred to others whose wives left them that remained single; not an enviable situation.

At any rate; getting out of my comfort zone or complacency and more time in fellowship is generally a healthy thing. Like someone said today if we remain alone we are at best unbalanced. He also brought out "iron sharpening iron". That seems to have been in "spades" for me lately; and greatly appreciated.

So I encourage those out here to find fellowship; either a church or even home Bible Study or start your own.

Also some great conversation here lately.

Those are important reminders you have shared bro Giannis. As our Lord even said, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Unfortunately, most of Christendom have been caught up with the world, where having the latest technologies and keeping up with the Jones', is equally, even more important. And yet, we are reminded by the apostle, "But godliness with contentment is great gain." ( 1 Timothy 6:6).

It is true that in old times, most people had very little, especially concerning food, clothing, shelter, and jobs. Were they content? They had to be content because there was very little they could do to improve their lot, given the sparsity of offerings. But they still lived on 'struggle street' and were very likely anxious, despondent, and driven to desperate actions. But as you wrote, that we have so much more than they, and we live relatively comfortable healthy lives, yet still many today are no better mentally or emotionally than those others, facing pressures from various sources. What they feel will bring them happiness and contentment, is only found to be temporal, ever lusting for more & more to sustain those satisfied feelings. And again, as you wrote, "they are searching for happiness in the wrong places".

But when you think of it, what else does the unbelieving world have in this life? Or, of any hope of eternity? Absolutely nothing. Their lives consist of what they know, have, and feel in the present, for tomorrow we die & are no more. But if they heed Jesus' Words ( Luke 12:15), "..(that) a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth" and they could have greater eternal treasures from Heaven (of full salvation, real joy, inner peace, and power to live righteously), their whole perspective of life & its real worth will be changed for their eternal good. If the Church at large can get out their stagnation & be a living witness to the world, the world might understand their true poverty. Blessings.

"It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (pt 2)

We were not made to live in sin. It is like a car which was made to be driven on streets. If you try to drive it on mountains or rocky lands the car will be destroyed. Because it wasn't made to be driven on such places. Similarlry we were made to live in sanctification. If we live in sin we will be distructed. Because we were not made to live in sin. I hope I am making myself clear.

Which means that if we only live according to God's commandements we will find hapiness. There is no other way. Sin offers definetely a pleasure. But it is like drugs. One tastes drugs for the first few times and finds pleasure. But drugs will eventually tie them and lead them to passion and slavery and decay and distruction. Sin promises freedom but leads people to bondage. God gives us a yoke but He leads us to freedom and hapiness.

If only people could realize that they are searching for hapiness in the wrong places. There is no hapiness at those places they are going to. There is no hapiness in the lifestyle they wish to live. Riches do not make people happy. Most rich and famous people have broken families, broken mental health, broken children. Because money can not bring joy. Fame can not bring joy. Many relations can not bring joy. And still people keep searching for love and joy in other places where they will find nothing more than what they found previously. Because they are going to the wrong direction.

There is only one way to hapiness. And Christ is the way. Because we were made for that specific way. We were made to be happy.

Let us trust our lives in Him. Let us hide ourselves inside His strong arms. He will never let us down. No fear, no anxiety, no sadness, no desease.

    Have a blessed week.

"It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (pt 1)

Nowadays people live so wealthy that they have never ever lived in all human history. Nowadays we have things that people in other ages couldn't even dream of. Having a car, a house, a proper job, living in countries with a welfare state, with a social net protecting people from povetry is the norm in the so called Western countries.

But the question is, why are people so unpleased from their lives? Why do we hear so often the word "depression"? Why do we hear so often the word "anxiety"? Why do we hear so often the word "pressure"? Why do we hear so often the words "autoimmune disease"? Few decades ago those words didn't exist in people's vocabularly. People were happier although they were poorer. Why is this?

People nowadays have problems with their mental health. Their souls are suffering, they are not healthy. People often turn to psycologists and psychiatrists to find some comfort. And it is true that science has achieved many great things in this modern era. It provides people with medicine and other treatments for their mental health. And it does a lot of good. And it is not the church's job to interfere with science.

But we, the christians, can offer to people an alternative proposal. "Do you want to be healthy? Do you want to see your soul to be healthy? Do you want to see your body to be healthy?"

If you do then go to Jesus. "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt 11:28-30

God made us in His image and in His likeness. Which means that we have inside us the characteristics of God. God created us not to live in sin, but to live in sanctification. It is only then that we find happiness in our lives. Living in sin leads us to distruction.

    Reply to Woundedwool:

    Psalms 118:26

"Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD."King James Version (KJV)

God loves us all the time. I fell from Grace at 21 years old and God picked me up and forgave me for my transgression. He graciously restored me to the right relationship with him.

My story is that I had a relationship with a married man.I got pregnant.

    I Had a healthy baby.

That was a turning point for me.

I began to get closer to the Lord because of all his goodness and his kindness, all his blessings he continued to shower upon us, me and my son. Sometimes when we fall, we look so dirty and unclean that the Church don't recognize us. To God be the Glory, He knows our heart. Praise the Lord.

The important part of my story is that "God can take your "Mess" and turn it into something "Good."

Thirty six years later I was in Atlanta Georgia to see my grand daughter graduate from College after receiving a four year scholarship. She was the daughter of that illegitimate son of mine.

    Hallelujah!!!

That how good God is to us. So, Woundedwool, read your bible,

daily pray to get closer to him. God loves us when we are pretty and even when we pretty ugly.

He will never stop loving us.

    Psalms 139:7-9

7Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there:

if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

. 9If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;."

    Be blessed.

Been there. Used to put a lot of pressure on myself. Make a list. Begin the first task. Finish always at 10.30 pm and then go to sleep. Use the first hour of early waking to the sun, exercise lightly stretch read a chapter of the Bible pray then super speed with joy into work. Never but never stay up as that work is rubbish quality anyway. Read the Bible, pray, then sleep - the Bible shifts thinking to release.. Always always, 'let go' and let the task be joyful... and thank God from your heart, for the opportunity. If you rejoice in your labour - there will be the reward and your mental health will right itself. The Bible is the answer to your prayer.... and yeah I learnt the hard way. Full blown depression in my 30s ... may you make right patterns now.

No; just consigned to an empty house at night.

My friend who has Pneumonia IS sort of quarantining himself; he is finishing a round of meds and staying in his place; I may drop a few more things for him in a couple days. Keep him in prayer (Steve). He has been a mixed bag; someone who another couple friends of mine have warned me about an unhealthy codependence for far too long.

I decided to start guitar lessons which begins tomorrow. I don't have a venue at present (and the new church does accappello) so unless something on that bulletin board at the music store brings forth something; or I win the contest and get promoted at a recital on social media I am unlikely at present to be able to do much more than personal edification; but perhaps it is a good venue for ministry. The old instructor is no longer there (was very young actually); this new dude is supposed to be good (Doug).

It has been a marathon effort extricating myself from attendance as a church member for the aforementioned reasons; I happened to bump into someone in the store probably the last person I'll get into the subject with-as I am letting people one on one ask me when they will. So far only my one friend has actually brought up scripture; others just try to justify others they knew who did this and that who were remarried; etc. It is hard building genuine relationships; and people may be using some of these tactics because they feel saddened of me leaving. I had to read multiple printouts from a lady who does small group with her husband about "no perfect church" and what she deemed to be a proper response to those remarried (referring to remaining in the "state" we are in which actually is precisely the point. Very exhausting but I knew it would be a battle. Too foggy last weekend to drive over an hour; Lord willing even if it rains that won't be an issue this week. In 2 weeks I hope to meet everyone after church at a lunch event.

    More on artificial "Christian" messages.

The first thing I'll say is WHY such lame presentations have to exist. Are there not enough messages from REAL people (for instance on NDI) that one could spend endless hours reading such accounts and of course accumulate the predictable collateral damage from such exposure over time?

Before we whitewash this whole topic; let us examine the idea of images. Artists ALL have; more or less represented images that are artificial replicas of real world events; persons; nature; etc. No one of a sane mind; of course would put the same level of value on such an object as compared to the counterpart in the real world. Of course idolatry does that and creates an unhealthy obsession with our own fantasies rather than reality and more importantly the Triune God that created all things.

Having to chase down truth and constantly go into rabbit holes lest some artificially produced image or worse quotation arises is time consuming. It is bound to happen on occasion; and if truth is our overall message it may be an unintended transgression.

It PERHAPS is helpful for an overall summary of society at large to put together some of this material; as no doubt whether something is real or even deliberately manufactured it shows the mindset of the world and influences particularly on the youth today. It is personal testimonies which I find the most disturbing; and specifically when much scriptural truth is in them. That has maximum effect as it were to promulgate some sort of agenda. There may be a significant amount of truth to the summation but whatever isn't true is lost in the sea of information. At best the creator may be trying to summarize a particular event or testimony to reflect a basically true biography. The obvious thing is unless it is approved by the person referred to it is a violation of their personal story and individual freedom-something we should consider before glibly listening.

Children are a blessing from the Lord. Theoretically; of course if someone did dissolve a second marriage the kids from that would still be their kids but the heritage in a way of children and what God recognizes as a covenant He establishes suffers; as do the kids from a first marriage entering a second. If the first spouse has died; of course God has terminated the life long covenant as well as the parental duties of the parent who has left this earth.

I have had that said to me as you pointed out in part 2; namely that God will convict someone. That is hard to do if a Pastor doesn't adhere to sound preaching on this doctrine and there is a nearly uniform consensus that it is ok somehow. Of course if we actually believed this we would tell nonbelievers the same advice. Again the scriptures show examples of this with John the Baptist and the times Abraham and I believe Isaac tried to pass on their wives as sisters. This affected pagan rulers badly; as God remains who He is with these moral truths wherever His presence is. Now when we don't live up to standards the world rightly calls us hypocrites and justifies deviant lifestyles since we have such a cavalier attitude towards marriage in the church.

The problem I have experienced is discerning evil as well as impartial observations with those in these situations; these include having demonic apparitions around them; uncontrolled rage and increased health issues. The other thing on the table (since you are a thinker) is the lack of divorce for any Bible characters in scripture; albeit multiple marriages. It seems in my limited understanding that both wives in that case had some sort of agreement with the man to provide for them and although it wasn't God's plan it seems He honored both covenants at the time. The verse about God hating divorce sort of sums up that such an act is worse than multiple wives; althiugh it is illegal here and against God's design.

    "nuff said". Agape.

Your wisdom and insight are as usual appreciated (although I'm a bit envious as you have a much better way of writing and organizing thoughts that are more complex than mine).

That being said, I have a couple matters I'm dealing with right now. First there is a friend of mine who I have been helping increasingly in a financial way who has had his bathroom in a state of disarray after a couple repairs to stop a leak. Financially he would be better off if he lived in my house where I could charge a manageable rate; although for now he has pneumonia and the house isn't clean enough for him to be here and stay healthy and I certainly don't want to get sick either. He; as you probably are aware has amassed debt; he gets some military benefits but it is a bottomless pit essentially between his credit card issues and other things well over 50k indebt. I told him that some sort of credit consolidation was in order to continue to assist him at the rate I have at least say 6 months from now. As for now; with my Dad technically owning the house I am NOT legally permitted to have anyone live here as more than a guest beyond 30 days. if it IS God's will then I need to get beyond this point of feeling like I am being swallowed up in the issue and out of control and am asking for His peace and strength to do it; letting him in at all at this point with any stipulation could likely mean he wouldn't be able to leave. For now; I have had to say no. For now it is a constant concern; and the immediate thing is that if his meds don't work he will be hospitalized; so prayer is appreciated. When I feel overwhelmed it is very hard to pray on my end.

I have also finally broken membership ties with my local church but still involved in peripheral events in evenings. I went the over hour drive to a church that I researched who believes as I do on the whole hotbed of the divorce remarriage issue.

It was even better than I could have expected but too far to go every week.

    Objective truth: The human mind

One of the reasons (as if we need such justification) for reading Holy Scripture is that our objectivity ain't what it seems.

When we are young; it is common for children to sense evil in say heavy metal music that praises the Devil; or otherwise is frighteningly loud or have a natural aversion to violence. Today sadly many kids grow up much too quickly thanks to the world agenda and oftentimes aided by parents who wittingly or unwittingly allow its influence in their homes; often due to children being given way too much time on social media and before they should.

My experience working with kids is from since late last year working with the Awana program in my local church in terms of regular exposure in ministry; my first. I was an only child and no one else at all had kids in my limited extended family.

That allowed me to spend much time growing up experiencing God's creation and pondering on concepts such as Romans 1 in sensing there is a God. As children; there is usually an openness to the Lord but of course it is a naive perception oftentimes and certainly as with my case when there is hypocrisy kids see it. It stands to reason; true or not there is no less perception of demons with kids and perhaps God's presence as well so that we can say broadly that human intelligence doesn't make us any smarter; 1 Corinthians 3:19 states For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. These days; admittedly even worldly wisdom and common sense has largely been bypassed for a quick fix; often with sensory overload that in turn causes overall compromise to the learning; development and mental health of kids.

I often ponder the methodology adults use with kids; however good the intentions may be. There has to be careful consideration to some of the graphic scriptures as to their sensibilities; but also is no reason to hold back on being spiritual warriors

    Dear Donna,

    Thank you for the update.

I had double cataract surgery over a year ago and only need glasses for reading. I hope that you can be in touch with an agency that may help him get the correct eyeglasses for his new sight needs.

I will continue to pray for him to decide to stay where he is at, to realize that this home is doing him much good and his health is improving as a result. I will pray that God will cause his sobriety to continue indefinitely and that he will not feel the need to go back to drugs and alcohol.

You mentioned his son. I did not know he had a son. Does this son live nearby? Is he truly helpful to Arthur's overall health and well-being?

Donna, you have a lot to be thankful today. But there are big concerns still present. Lean on God for each day and its needs for you, Arthur, and your other son, too, who has drug problems, too. God is strongest of all. He can do what seems to us as impossible. And He is compassionate to those who are unable to help themselves much. My prayers are with you and for you and your family.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

I'm going to now focus on what should be expected within the Body of Christ. I will start with a question. Do we want others to sharpen us as "iron sharpens iron" ( Prov. 27:17)? God uses people in order to help exhort; rebuke etc. as 2 Timothy 4:2 reminds us-Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

This; my friends means within the body of believers to help with God's sanctification plan for us. The job of elders is supposed to be aiding with instruction and correct doctrine; sadly it seems many in this role from my experience seem to be invested in secluded prayers with the Pastor; or business roles and rather estranged from the rest of the congregation. We shouldn't wait; of course as some do for some instruction to us personally from the Pastor who normally preaches if we see another in need of growth or maturity. This is why discussion of the Word (and by no means the only reason for it) to be a prime event in our church fellowship. That; sadly is NOT what I have heard in my church lately amongst other issues. It has become time to move on; even though I have some other events I am attending other than the Sunday service that I'm still involved with for the time being.

I have also learned that once a congregation gets to a certain point with apathy they simply won't do anything to get out of a lukewarm state. Any pleading with admonitions from scripture either brings the usual "live by grace"; or "log in your eye" response and the Word is either dismissed or ignored. A healthy rebuke to an issue even disagreement is better than just accepting the status quo of whatever is being taught or accepted. I hope no one else goes through this; but it seems a candlestick going out isn't an issue

    Political correctness in church

This is what is likely going to be a lengthy series on the subject of what otherwise could be described as "conformity to the masses" and is based on current issues that have led me to a difficult decision to end my current church membership. Due to the controversy of one particular topic I find it best to circumvent that for now; although those who know me well may have a grasp on what the particular trigger is here. There are basic concepts; many of which begin with the "judge not lest you be judged" scripture as a stand alone principle which is taken as a blanket statement and ignores things such as are pointed out to the Corinthians in judging matters within rather than suing a brother in courts ( 1 Cor. 6:6).

A more general sentiment is the "showing grace" card which involves a lecture on getting the log out of your own eye; and inevitably (from my most recent experience) goes to the "not being loving" or some other variant of that statement which unfortunately my Pastor says is my attitude for attempting to adhere to scriptural truth first. Another brother of mine who is a Deacon also disagrees with me on this subject but "respects my convictions" on the matter; often expressed as an opinion without any discussion of the relevant passages themselves. Ironically; another friend of mine who is also a Pastor who had a blowup with me related to this same matter has made an attempt to reach out and restore the friendship with me after not talking for well over a year in this same week.

I'll be honest here; I'm offended and hurt-not in the matter of the particular subject in question here so much but a judgment that my motives concerning the spiritual health of individuals as well as how it affects the congregation as a whole means I'm "unloving" or hard hearted. I'll get into specific scriptures later; but this isn't the first time I have had to deal with this criticism in the church.

To conclude this exchange, though you said that much is being debated, I don't see these exchanges that way. To me, debating carries with the word a sense of one against another. I see all these exchanges as discussion where at times we commend and agree with what others post on a topic and at times we voice our disagreement explaining why we disagree. I see a big difference between debate and discussion. Both can be rigorous an involve deeply held convictions, but one (discussion) is better suited for a forum like this because we all should approach one another in love, compassion, and a desire to bring clarity to the teachings of Scripture so we can build one another up with increasing understanding of God's revelation to us and of one another.

I am glad you won't do surgery on your knee since you had good results from your work on rehabilitating your other knee when you tore that miniscus. May you heal quickly and learn effective ways to accomplish the healing and have a firm resolve to keep at what works until your knee is strong and healthy once again.

Always good to talk with you.

Addendum: It was brought to my attention recently by one person on this site that I basically ramble on without confidence in the Word. Admittedly; the time I have here to bounce around ideas is more than most. I will state that although it is healthy to have questions I don't want to be as Paul stated buffeting aimlessly. I will be honest enough to admit that there are some issues that I wrestle with; and sometimes am trying to get some discussion going to make things clearer to me; and to provoke discussion to get people to think more deeply.

I have covered the last few years all the major theological issues that I can think of of importance. There are others here more succinct; detailed and consistent in studying the Word directly or what some call "exegesis". I tend to look at issues then find corresponding answers from the Bible. Without any questions from others who may be seeking further understanding; I certainly don't want to be the only one dumping my own problems here. This recent trip I took where my friend helped me insulate a cabin and we were able to fellowship together and I got to hear his testimony gave me a vision of what He may have in my future; specifically in regard to my assistance in promoting his testimony which he has been asked to share in different parts of the country. For now I am continuing to work out certain things through the recovery program in my church that is structured to encourage others but with the small turnout has been something those leading it can use to further make what is called a "fearless moral inventory". In general the example of my friend sharing the Gospel as we used to do regularly when I lived in the same city as him is where I want my focus to be as His coming draws near.

I would just ask for more specific criticism so that whatever changes I make in further postings can be more edifying; and to be certain I don't have a purpose for directing conversation a certain way.

    Donna,

Good to hear this report on how God worked in this situation and that Arthur is now happy and getting care that has led to improvement in his health, outlook on life, and spiritual renewal. Great!

Halloween: The "holiday" that eclipes and intersects the whole fall season

Maybe people should consider hanging a pumpkin and some mistletoe; notwithstanding the occult implications of each it seems Christmas and Halloween seem to encompass a great deal of time from September to January every year. (Or as my pun indicates we can hang a turkey and some mistletoe and all have salmonella by Christmas eve).

Ok my attempt at humor if it is allowed here. I suppose it is a good thing that the turkey isn't the national bird or we'd all be idolizing it constantly and I suppose have to be content eating eagle once a year. What is mind numbing is that apparently the averae American spends over 100 bucks a year on Halloween. It used to be not so many moons ago that such expenditures on Christmas seems extravagent. and now (drumroll) the churches in America have begun the "trunk or treat" events. At best it seems to me to be an attempt to assimilate popular customs and do a bait and switch with the whole "trick" process. I suppose I shouldn't ask what bratty kids do in revenge if the trunk doesn't produce the treat they want in the process...

As I have said in the past it's too bad this season brings pumpkin a bad name. It isn't the pumpkin's fault; being a healthy food for man and beast alike that it's face is carved into grimaced expressions which no doubt come from pagan origin. The thing that amazes me is how many put up all sorts of demonic artifacts in their backyard then a nativity scene a month or less later once the former is removed. What is the reason for the season then; are we Satanists or Christians or some hybrid in between.

There are some individuals who we could go out wearing costumes imitating them that may consider it sacrilege but which is worse; an outer representation of such or an inner state of heart and soul that is far removed from repentance but attempting through some religious exercise every year related to Christ's birth?

Further insight on my own self inventory as to guarding my heart; etc.

Part of my own failings as a husband were in regard to admiring attractive women and being stupid enough to mention it to my wife. That; in turn of course causes collateral damage; and the lack of attention to her needs and focus on my own as to the kind of sacrificial love I was supposed to possess cost me; particularly in regard as to how to handle accumulated and more serious stresses of finances and later with the encroachment of her family moving in our house; and finally my dealings with the person she ultimately had her infidelity with. I can't look in hindsight as to how my own failings in being accountable to others and if things could have been different; say with the recommended and refused premarital counselling in the church that was refused due to both of us being rushed into marriage; and the later isolation from healthy fellowship due to my own vows of church membership not taken seriously; etc.

My point here isn't to make this forum my own dumping ground for all my flaws; but it serves as a reminder to myself as well as others how important it is to continue to moniter whether we are indeed in the faith; and the overall fruits of our lives. There are no shortcuts to maturity in our spiritual lives; and any sins that are allowed to fester will at best remove affectiveness from our witness and cause lack of spiritual rewards. At worst; of course if He isn't chastising us we aren't legitamate adopted sons and daughters of the King. That is for all of us to monitor. Remaining in fellowship especially as we see the Day approaching ( Heb. 10:25) is crucial.

Having a deep focus on one thing for myself is part of attention deficit and can result in; as it does with some with autism extreme talent in one area. Being sold out to the Lord SHOULD involve wholehearted devotion to this singular cause which also incorporates wisdom in all areas of living to His glory.

Forgive me ,but where on earth was it stated the Lord was coming in September?!

He might well have done for " no man knows the HOUR " we can indeed know the season but not the month! Or worse the hour .

He will come when all the saints " least exoect it" ALL,10 virgins were asleep" when the cry came " The bridegroom cometh"!

So while He may still come in September no man can say he will .

The standing order so to speak is to be always ready and working in the kingdom .

Not to be looking skyward perpetually .

Though I find myself looking up every so often " for our redemption draweth near".

The father of John the Baptist Was in his place fulfilling his function in the temple even his allotted time and his job that by lot was assigned to him.

It was as he was so working that the angel of God came .

The shepherds were doing their jobs when heaven burst its banks at His first coming .

Some will be in the field some asleep etc etc .

ANY body who claim a date are at best gravely mistaken no matter how they calculated it .

It also gives the church trouble by such 'predictions' by the world and many a unrepentant sinner will simply laugh and continue on their way .

I once lived at the bottom of a hill. The bus stop was on the other side of the brow of it and the bus unseen would come from the left and turn left . Often it so happened that I saw people running to the bus stop and so I began to run as well for they were the "evidence of things as yet unseen "

I often caught the bus because of their witness .

I do believe the Lord has left the building so to speak and is on His way . But I have no idea of the time of His arrival .

He delayed his arrival when he heard of Lazarus Ill health because " he loved him"

The time is in " The Fathers hands" not man's not even the Lords .

    Dear S&fiance,

It is unfortunate that your daughter's fiance oopsed on the photo shoot.

I will pray for God to help them to overcome the disappointment and mistake to go on to a wonderful, beautiful, engagement phot shoot with great pictures to share with the ones they love.

Please remind both of them that in any marriage, even godly ones, there will be so much bigger things spouses will experience and need to forgive and move past things that hurt or misunderstand, or are mistakes.

We have been married 46 years and there have been plenty of matters like this, but we are committed to having a loving, forgiving marriage with the knowledge that neither is perfect or will ever be the perfect person for the other. But we are given to one another by God to grow us in godliness, love, and fruits of the Holy Spirit within a relationship we freely chose and have committed ourselves to for life.

We know that we HAVE to work things out and bear with each other in our sinfulness, be quick to forgive, not keep a record of wrongs, and be patient, looking out for the best of the other in how we decide to react to their failings.

May God bless these two people with love for Him above all else and healthy, giving love for one another. May their marriage be strong, built on communion in prayer, Bible study, always with compassion for the other and hope for God's work that will be done in them throughout their marriage.

Just a few comments on the addictions series at our church

Since things are confidential I not only will leave even first names out but won't get into details. There are discussions between men and women seperately and there was only one guy who clearly is a believer. At least one other person the leader knows didn't show so you can pray he and others help to bring a few more to the table in the next meeting.

Also another woman in the church is filling in for the Pastor's wife who has familiarity with counselling. My friend and I who are there next week agree on making things Biblically based and success in that from her own personal testimony and scripture knowledge clearly is an asset.

At this point I am glad to be there as a support; but my primary issue if it comes up is if people come who are remarried against scriptural mandates; which are usually viewed as my "opinion" rather than scripture. One of the authors apparently was married several times which is a concern to me; but currently isn't an issue with those in the group.

Finally I would ask for prayer for a friend of mine who is a Christian artist which is going to show some of his stuff during a flea market type event at our church (largely designed to sell some materials that have sat around the church not being used).

He is focusing on the Lord with the artwork and the books he has written; I have mixed feelings about depictions of God in artwork but for now this is a source of income for him and I've been heavily involved in financial assistance so would appreciate prayer for his contacts either with the art or his book(s). His disabilities and chronic health issues prevent him from continuing a regular job at present. I am praying he finds a Christian roommate or some further assistance; apparently since he is 60 the county in his case was unable to give futher help. The basic issue is a high rent so that it appears he has more money than in actuality along with debt incurred.

Hi RICHARD H PRIDAY and all other. In the 90s we remember well that there was talk of cip being transposed into bodies. It happens, even here many Christians want to hold back the development. The Antichrist now has world domination through Ai. Because many, many people use this tool. The wise stay away as much as they can, but freedom is threatened for them too. Those who see errors in the system. It is worse for those born in the 90s. Those who have practically grown up with a mobile phone in their hand, those who have a PC at home and at school and probably a lot more that my head cannot grasp. Since I am quite isolated from the newfangled things and things. I simply do not care about them, or should I say "I don't want to know everything". What we are born into like today's young people. What a hopeless situation it will be for them to say no and order pizza at the Hut or order car parts etc. Imagine if we end up having to order food from the store, delivered by drones. The system already exists. Then it is easier for us, even though many people today probably take advantage of this system. Unfortunately, it is here to stay. You cannot receive a package in the mail without the system being up and running. The phone The telephone syst. Tell family and friends, everyone we have a conversation with.Or do as Paul here in Acts 17:22-34 Simply stand UP go out. This comes so slowly and with several years in between. In the end, everyone is dependent on this "world ruler". This is where Christians must err. The future will also show that this will be a kind of "war". Because water that comes from the tap. Will not come automatically without Ai knowledge and codes. This is already the case when municipalities introduce systems that are Ai inspired. Rent can become difficult to pay because banks will introduce systems that "make it safer" against fraud, etc. There I would think the chip will come first, along with the health system. From birth to the crypt, unfortunately.
