Dear all. I truly enjoy reading the book of John. So much so, I can recite it with ease Cpth 4: 4 to 28.

The samarian woman at tge well reminds me of Mum.She was abused physically, mentally n sexually by my alcoholic father. Both mum n dad could not read n write. It took me 40 long years to forgive my dad for all his flaws as father n a husband.

Mum eventually left him when I was 12 years old.

Focusing on Jesus' words to the Samarian women, " True worshippers worship the Father in spirit and in truth. God/is a spirit," strikes me as being the essential message in John 4. Makes me want to know all there is about the words, "spirit and truth".

The bible on my computer lets you find all the phrases using any word you want as spoken by Jesus. I will start there.

GOD'S (Jesus) plan of salvation was not 'changed' by Paul. People want to think it was because - they don't want to follow Jesus' commandments, Jn. 14:15.They want to have an easy believe -ism, "By grace are ye saved ..... " But the words of James ch. 2 are Jesus' words also, vs. 17-26. We cannot 'pick 'n choose' through God's word; it's all, from Gen. to Rev. His Word.

Paul and Arabia; Paul didn't go to Arabia to study written words. He was an Israelite, of the tribe of Benjamin, etc. He knew the O.T. frontwards and backwards, but hadn't the 'light' on Jesus in those scriptures. That's why God sent him to Arabia - so He (God) could give Paul light on Jesus in the O.T. Jesus talked to Paul just like on the road to Damascus. Cont.

Mr. William; The Lord was speaking to the woman about salvation; and when He draws anyone to Himself to be saved, He will always shine His Light upon our innermost selves, and on our sins, so that we repent of the sins, and have a true conversion; that He may purge us from the sins, by faith in Him. Many are interested in some way to hear about Jesus; but don't want to be convicted of their sins!

I'm not sure why Jesus told the woman she had five husbands.
  • Dejvi on 1 John 4:12 - 8 years ago
Regarding the 1 John 4:12 verse, there were people and apostles who obviously saw Jesus, the Son of God, the 2nd person of the Trinity with their own eyes, so this can not mean that. However, God said to Moses not to look at him, because he would not be able to stand the view. I surmise it is God's full glory that no one has seen or can see in the fallen human state, because no one could stand it and live. There can be no sin in the presence of God Jesus emptied himself by becoming man besides God to take on our sins .

Jesus 'must needs go through Samaria'; because that was the only way one could get to Galilee. And it wasn't an easy walk. But He KNEW there was a woman in Samaria that was hungry for what he had; He knew she was open to His message. Jesus knows our needs, desires - even before we do. But - that does not mean we will accept His truth when our eyes are opened.

I did not live in the days of Christ, but never the less I have unwavering faith in Him because of the love and miracles that He has preformed in my behalf and my family. I am far from perfection but His merciful hand has reached out to even me. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and we believe that God has a perfect Glorified physical and spirit body. See Joseph Smith

The Woman was not divorced. If a woman bed down with a man or Man bed down with a woman; and have sexual relations together then they become married in spirit and body in the eyes of God. This was considered to be Adultery and that made her guilty of the same. But she would be forgiven at His death for the sins of the world, if she repented and asked for mercy, and stopped sinning to be saved.
  • Ulu on John 4 - 8 years ago
Why do people assume the Samaritan woman was 5 times divorced? Maybe all her husbands died and they were all brothers, unable to give her children. Maybe the man she is in love with now is not allowed to marry her because of cultural differences. Jesus accepts her just as she is and she becomes a great evangelist.

Peter, We need to ask ourselves what does it mean to be created in Gods image? It says that male and female were created in Gods image. If God is speaking Literally then is God male or female? What is Gods image? has anyone ever seen Gods and lived? Ex 33:20; John 4:24; Zech 12:1. The tree of Knowledge of Good and evil Would God really exile his people because they ate from a tree? To Susan - sorry, I hadn't read your previous comment of 26/5/16 at 3.37pm when I gave my comment. It looks like I copied what you said! Obviously we believe the same thing. Also, in the books of John 1, (1 John 4:10,14 - God sent His Son), (1 John 4:15 - confess that Jesus is the Son of God....) we read 1 John 5:5-7 - proof of the Trinity. Verse 7 will prove this. Again, 1 John 5:11

I see "future antichrist" when the antichrist, and many antichrists, are already in the world. Antichrists deny daily that CHRIST JESUS is in the flesh, which is His church, His temple, His body of believers as members of CHRIST carrying His Holy Spirit. Be blessed in Christ. Amen. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world. Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

And that spirit of antichrist is now most prevalent in the last time as Satan is a king over all the children of pride. JESUS CHRIST is come in the flesh but pride stops ears and blinds eyes causing unbelief. John 5:47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? 1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists whereby we know that it is the last time. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world.

Jacob, Read the verse I gave in my last post. Also 2 John 1:7 "For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." 1 John 4:3, 1 John 4:2. If you do not believe that Christ came in the flesh (he is a man) you won't get what God is telling you in all the verse I wrote.

Rose Anne Enriquez, It is not a sin to drink wine. It is a sin to be addicted to strong drink, and drunkeness.
    1 Timothy 5:23, Romans 14:21, Ephesians 5:18, Psalms 4:17, John 4:46, etc.
There are many verses where God instructed some people not to drink wine.
If you put the word wine in the "search words or verses" box you can read all verses the include the word wine.

This chapter plainly tells us that love is the greatest gift of all because it represents the heart of God. 1st John 4:7 says that "God is love everyone and everyone that loves is born of God." Thus, according to 1John 4:20, "If a man say, I love God, and hate his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?"

    To understand Judges 14
    Read John 4: 32, Judges 14: 5 -18, Rev 10: 10, Isaiah 30: 17, Matt 21:5:

I hold meat to be eaten that you have not perceived.
The truth is both stronger than a lion and sweeter than honey
It is both sweet to say and can be hard to swallow
The truth can kill or it only stings a little
Turning death to life like mourning with a fiddle.

1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world. 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

Matthew 6:27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 1 John 4:3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. JESUS WHO SAID THESE POWERFUL WORDS, WARNED THE DISCIPLES THAT THE WORLD WILL HATE THEM NOW FOR FOLLOWING HIM! THE DISCIPLES FORSOOK THEIR WILL TO BE IN THE LORD'S WILL NOT REALLY KNOWING WHAT THEY WAS GETTING THEMSELVES INTO! WHEN WE ACCEPTED JESUS IN OUR LIFE, WE DID NOT REALLY UNDERSTAND THE OPPOSITION THAT WE HAD TO COME UP AGAINST! PEOPLE WILL HATE U OR BE JEALOUS OF U FOR HAVING JOY WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE IS UNHAPPY CAUSE THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH! JESUS HAS THE GREATEST LOVE THAT EVER CAME ON EARTH, BUT WENT THROUGH THE MOST HATRED CAUSE HE STOOD ON THE TRUTH ALL THE WAY! WE AS BELIEVERS MUST GET PAST OUR FEELINGS AND LIVE IN THE SPIRIT IF WE WANT TO STAND IN THESE LAST AND EVIL DAYS! JOHN 4:24 SAYS THAT GOD IS A SPIRIT, THEY THAT WORSHIP HIM MUST WORSHIP HIM IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH! I RATHER STAND ON THE TRUTH NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE HATE ME CAUSE JESUS GAVE ME A NEW HEART AND MIND! WITHOUT JESUS I AM NOTHING! AMEN! GLORY BE TO GOD!!

"We love him, because he first loved us."-1 John 4:19. We should rejoice, not because Christ's stripes heal our bones, rather because they revive our spirits and reconcile us back to our Creator. He said: "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:11. Christ suffered, long before we knew it. He paid our debt, long before we even realised that we owed anybody. He redeemed us, long before we fathomed anything about the plan of redemption. He was slain for us "from the foundation of the world". Though, at times, our flesh may ail, or even die, let us be assured that our spirits wont, since they were purchased by blood unto life by "him that loved us, and washed us from our sins, in his own blood."- Rev 1:5. Says Job, "For I know that my Reedemer liveth, and he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my FLESH, I SHALL SEE GOD"- 19:25,26 Oh, How I Love Jesus, Because He First Loved Me!!!
