    Chris,

    Page 2

As Paul states in Hebrews 4:11: "For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, AS GOD DID FROM HIS."

When did God rest? The 7th day.

When did Jesus rest? The 7th day.

When did the Apostles rest AFTER CHRIST DIED? The 7th day.

Was Peter wrong for observing the health laws laid out by God in the book of Leviticus well AFTER Christ had died? Why was he following these laws if ALL had been fulfilled in Christ ( Acts 10:12)?

God explained what is clean and unclean. Did Christ make all unclean food clean again? Answer: No. But I am not going to judge a new Christian (in meat) for eating a ham sandwich; however I will politely and gently point him to Leviticus 11.

"ALL" has not been fulfilled, therefore the LAW still exists. ( Matthew 5:18).

The student of God's word needs to be clear as to what "ORDINANCES" ( Ephesians 215, Colossians 2:14) have been taken out of the way (such as blood sacrifice) and what LAWS (7th day, health) are still in effect.

    To answer your questions:

All believers look to take one day off a week, per order of God. I don't think anyone is condemned for trying to understand it as clearly as possible. As I said over and over, I am not the judge and ignorance is not a sin.

Could the 7th day vs. the 1st day be, as you state, "a possible divider of those that are granted eternal life from those that are rejected," I would reply that the ONLY thing that will not be forgiven you in the flesh is if you reject the Holy Spirit from speaking through you if and when the time comes.

On a side note Chris, I appreciate your feedback and I am amazed at your ability to respond to various people at the same time. These comments and replies take me forever to generate.

    Chris,

I interpret Colossians 2:16 differently than you do. I believe this verse concerns those that are weaker in faith and in understanding of Scripture are not to be condemned or judged by those that are stronger in faith.

I completely disagree with your belief that Paul is telling us that "the believer is free to do a number of things, including appointing his worship day." Do you tell people that they do not need to understand or follow the OT because it has been replaced? Dangerous stuff there!

Did Christ come to obliterate the Law, (our schoolmaster)? Absolutely not! How do you justify your condemnation of O.T. law?

Do you think that you are not under the 10 Commandments? You are under the law if you break the law. And that is every one every day. Last I checked, only Jesus didn't break any laws, ever?

Concerning the Sabbath, we are plainly told that Christ became our Sabbath and our rest is EVERY DAY, not just one day per week ( Hebrews 4:1-11). That is what I believe! ( 1 Corinthians 5:7). And that is why I don't care when you or anyone else observes the day of rest within a week. As I have repeatedly stated, I'm not the judge!

I would think that people who value understanding Scripture as clearly as possible (as you seem to) would want to use all available resources for this. If you want to rest on a Friday or a Sunday because it is EASIER and convenient and that is what everyone else is doing, that is your choice.

I was not trying to get into a "solar calendar argument," but your dismissive comments concerning the DSS, and your idea that days are "unimportant for worship" and that we "NEED" to abide by the current (Pope Gregory) calendar sounds to me like someone that is "in the world" and has closed his mind off to any new understanding? Are you fearful to find out something that might be different from your understanding?

The best reason to worship on Sunday is to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead on the first day of the week ( Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24, John 20).

It is not a requirement to honor a particular time of worship because Jesus said, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them." ( Matthew 18:20).

Colossians 2:16-17, indeed the whole chapter, show us that these things pertaining to what is lawful are but a shadow of things to come, Jesus Christ being preeminent.

Galatians 5 declares our liberty in Christ, for if we are justified by law we are fallen from grace. Ironically, the Pharisees worked so hard to maintain the Sabbath that it became oppressive. Many still work to establish their own righteousness, not submitting to the righteousness of God (only found in Christ Jesus) Romans 10.

Hebrews 4 is an excellent lesson on rest for today.

Colossians 2:8-9 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

We have too be strong in the Lord, believing every word from the mouth of God. Temptation come in many forms. Satan desire to sift us Christians as wheat. Unbelievable times are here, just as the prophets preached back then, tell who all would listen to repent and pray, and turn back from your wicked way. They didn't , so here we are faced with that same diliema. Choose God, he will never leave you nor forsake you. Let us all learn from the past. In reference to Colossians chapter 2

Dear Douglas Russel Jr., Oh, how I hope since you've reached out here, that you have come to understand The Good News of Christ's Love and what it means to be saved by God's Amazing Grace :)

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 "...I declare unto you the GOSPEL...By which also ye are saved...How that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. :)

*Because of what God says in His Word, the Bible, I believe*:

that man is saved from eternal punishment and is justified freely by grace through faith in the sacrificially shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary

    ( Romans 3:21-26, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

that Salvation is a completely undeserved free gift bestowed upon all who simply believe ( Romans 5:12-21, 4:5).

during this dispensation of grace, every person who believes the gospel of the grace of God ( Acts 20:24) is eternally saved from God's wrath.

All saved people during the dispensation of grace are eternally saved and complete in Christ ( Romans 5:1, Colossians 2:10).

Salvation is the work of God and not the work of man. Therefore, it is impossible for anyone who has trusted in Christ to ever be lost again. AND ...We are sealed by the Holy Spirit and are not our own -- we are bought with a price

    ( Colossians 3:1-4, Romans 8:29-39, Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30, 1Corinthians 6:19-20).

Space here is running low. I hope to share more in another comment if allowed.

As the Apostle Paul repeatedly said:

" Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ " ... Amen.

Angeline, With respect to keeping the Sabbath, what were the requirements? What is your take on statements that seem to say it doesn't matter if you keep the Sabbath?

    Mark 2:27

Then Jesus declared, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."

    Mark 7:19

because it does not enter his heart, but it goes into the stomach and then is eliminated." (Thus all foods are clean.)

    Romans 14:3

For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not belittle the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted him.

    Romans 14:5

One man regards a certain day above the others, while someone else considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes a special day does so to the Lord; he who eats does so to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God.

    Romans 14:17

For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

    Galatians 4:10

But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!

    Colossians 2:20

If you have died with Christ to the spiritual forces of the world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its regulations: These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.

    1 Timothy 4:3

They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

    Hebrews 9:10

They consist only in food and drink and special washings--external regulations imposed until the time of reform.

    I don't think so,

The 2nd Chapter of Colossians is on atonement in general, but I believe Paul is dealing with the ultra religious, those who 'swallow a camel, but strain out a gnat. Matthew 23:24

Ref: Further in Chapter 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honor to the satisfying of the flesh.
  • Ben on Colossians 2:16 - 6 years ago
the precept of this verse can be found at Ezekiel chapter 45 verse 16 and 17 paul was referring to atonement and how Christ body superceeds animal sacrifice shalom
  • Carol - In Reply on Psalms 8 - 6 years ago
"To the law and to the testimony, if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them". Isiah 8:20 When Jesus was nailed to the cross the Mosaic Laws was also nailed to the cross. We no longer had to sacrifice animals for forgiveness, Jesus was the Lamb that was slain. His blood covers our sins. The Ten Commandments is God's character. His Ten Commandments still stand. If they do not, then it is okay to lie, steal, murder, covet etc. We can't pick and choose what commandments we keep. If you offend in one you offend in all. Colossians 2:8 "Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ"

Matthew 5:17, 18 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled". Rev. 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments , that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city".

I do believe in keeping the Sabbath, but keeping the Sabbath is only one of God's commandments. We have to obey all of God's Commandments. Jesus died so that we may be saved.

The 7th day was blessed before Adam was created; only the races had been created (6th day). So it wasn't for the Jews but for mankind. On March 7, 321 Roman Emperor Constantine I issued a civil decree making Sunday a day of rest from labor, stating: All judges and city people and the craftsmen shall rest upon the venerable day of the sun. Constantine chose Sunday to be the day for Christian worship as it already enjoyed special status in the Roman week. Named after the Pagan Sun God Invictus, Sunday had become the day when wages were paid to workers, leading it to be seen as a day of celebration and thanks. In corresponding the Christian Sabbath with an already established day of rest, Constantine ensured that his decree would be accepted swiftly and harmoniously.

Council of Laodicea - 364 AD is where the catholic church made worshiping on the sabbath illegal and required it to be on the first, which was the day of Sun worship. Think GOD likes being worshiped on pagan holiday.

Do you know that there were other sabbath days apart from the seventh day Sabbath? There were foods and drinks that were taken in certain days? Leviticus 23. These were written in the Mosaic Law and Christ nailed them on His Cross. These were shadows of His ultimate sacrifice. But any in the 10 commandments is a show of God's character, LOVE, to God and to your neighbor. This Christ came to affirm

Insightful! Some religions teach that you must suffer or hurt your body in order to be pleasing to God, this scripture helps us to reason. It is through an accurate knowledge of God's word that our body can be brought into subject. God's word touches our heart and motivates change. We can fast, mark, deny, ourselves but that may not be necessary. Allow God's word to motivate change, not pain.

To Matt (and Tochi). Matt, where do U find this "accept Christ into your heart" as all one must do to be saved? U mention repent (turn away from sin) but Jesus said U must also be born again of the water and the spirit. Please read Romans 6th chapter and 1st Peter 3:21. Colossians 2:11-12; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16...Baptism is where a repentant sinner meets the blood of Christ to be saved

BSP; An interesting point is how the Word which was from the beginning ever had to be kept a secret. Understanding the history as recorded in the Scriptures shows that it was the rise of the heathen and Antichrist, which conspired to break the bands asunder and cast away the cords of God with men, that turned the common faith and all the hope of man into something to be concealed from view.

vs3. "In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." Know of a certainty, this is true. But it comes at great cost..."For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow". I testify to the truth of this. The more of Jesus you have, the more of knowledge you gain, the more grief and sorrow you will live with. The only salvation left for you, is Jesus.

Jimmy (cont.); But the way we come to Jesus in the first place is holy and good in God's view! We seek forgiveness and reconciliation through the precious blood of Jesus, and God's great love and mercy for us. Is the blood of Christ not powerful enough to make reconciliation for us? Is the blood of Christ not powerful enough to purify the believing soul from every sin and repair all sin's damage?
