1And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD. 2And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. 4And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. 6And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

Wesley's Notes for Genesis 4:3
4:3 In process of time - At the end of days, either at the end of the year when they kept their feast of in - gathering, or at the end of the days of the week, the seventh day; at some set time Cain and Abel brought to Adam, as the priest of the family, each of them an offering to the Lord; for which we have reason to think there was a divine appointment given to Adam, as a token of God's favour notwithstanding their apostacy.

10 years AgoPeter A. Njoku for verse 3There is no doubt that that was not the first time they were bringing offering to the Lord. The idea of a father being the head in family altar surely did not start today. The verse said Cain brought. You dont bring to yourself. You give to yourself. He must have brought to the High Priest, which surely was no other person but Adam. The two sacrifices must have been done in their presence. Both of them saw how each sacrifice was received, hence Cain's reaction. Abel's reaction must have provoked his elder brother who did not take it light. May I learn from Cain's reaction.
