Psalms 1 warns not to follow the ways of the ungodly people.
  • JamI on Psalms 1 - 14 years ago
Psalms 1 is just that, the first and #1 psalm! No other song more perfectly exalts the inspired way we choose to live.

There is a brilliant teaching within verse 1. GOD says not to stand in the way of sinners. This also means don't get in their way! We can warn that soul but cannot physically stop them from committing sin. They have to decide for themself. Proverbs also mention to avoid being a victim or recipient of wickedness and rage. In the 3rd part of the verse "the seat of the scornful" is a place of false judgement. To scorn is to disdain, hold contempt for, basically to have a sour attitude toward the sinner. That's not your position to be the judge. Christ asks us "which of you have not sinned?"

Our delight is in the LAW of the LORD! Perfect Love. The law is non- partial. His mercy endures forever. We need to look deeper at ourselves and bring forth the light within the self. As Mic Davis commented it is not our job to save anybody. Know thy self! Be satisfied with the Law.

Compare the tree planted by rivers of water to the chaff the wind drives away. That tree is self-sustaining. It needs no man to water it, as nature does the work. I have read in other KJV's the phrase "..bringeth forth fruit in DUE season." This relates to patience and faith, continuing to do good no matter what occurs. A tree has deep roots and cannot be moved- while the chaff is the waste of the fruit, worthless, light, just pushed away by the wind.

In verse 5 very important ideas are revealed. The ungodly will not even stand in the judgement! I feel this defines that we are judged by a different set of standards than the unholy and it is a gift to receive guidance or judgement from the Lord. It is a huge responsibility to be a Follower. The ungodly have no clue of the depths and heights of being on the Path. That JAH will not allow sinners in the congregation is a wonderful promise to the faithful. Isn't it so true? One who stirs up strife in the church is mysteriously cast away, gone. It reminds us to uplift our congregation, not be so picky or judgmental on our brothers and sisters. If they are there at your side then they can't be sinning too bad! We need to have trust in our spiritual family. Give each other encouragement.

The essence of this song relates to the law. No not just the laws of Moses (which Jesus says was written because of the hardness of the Israelits hearts), but the law of life! The law of GOD. It's the internal wisdom and knowledge of all things. The knowledge of balance, of cycles, male and female, dark and light. The law is unchanging, eternal. Thank GOD it's the way things are. The way of the ungodly shall perish. Righteous judgement. Yea the law is our delight, and upon it we meditate day and night.

This psalm remins me that there are people that i must stay away from, even if i like them. even if it is family. Also doing what God says to do is hard and sometimes misunderstood .he is full control and who better to guide us as christians?
  • Alan on Psalms 1 - 14 years ago
i love this scripture , psalms 1:1, blessed are those who do not walked in the counsels of the wicked people. if we walked in the paths of the wicked we will farely do bad things and if constantly listens to their counsels or advises we will also start to do things that God do not want us to do. we might involve in doing the things that will cause us to sin willfully.

before the start of the paragraph it stated "blessed". if we walk in Gods counsels and displines we will be blessed by God our heavenly father. that means we must draw close God and listen to him as well as filling our minds and spiritual heart with Gods words but not the adivices of the wicked man. God will blessed you because you obey him and honour him.

The Holy Spirit has been encouraging me to read I Samuel and I finally did and am glad that I hearkened to the voice of the Lord. See, I am going throug a tough place right now and I Samuel has served as a reminder of God's faithfulness to me and all those who love Him and are students of His word. I confess this day, that I "shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper" ( Psalms 1:3 KJV). I declare this day that I will walk by faith as Hannah and not by what I see. I will reap the harvest God's given me for a testimony.

Very true, if we want to be right with God and be saved we have to do the right things and stay away from sins, could be hard but it is possible cause the Holy Sprit will always remind you. Stayforcused

This statement is to Rob. It is not your job to save anybody. You cannot save anybody you are just a man. For you are no better than the lord. It is your duty and faith that you spread the Gospel of jesus christ. That alone why God made the gospel powerful that others be change because of what Christ did for us all. & also God saves who he wants to save. If we all go to hell he is worthy of all glory and praise of our death to destruction. & sad to say many so called believers of Christ are not christians because they do not know how to fight the fight with faith and lay hold onto the glory of God. Be radical, violent, vigilant persistent in the pursuit of the lord and the matters of holiness. He who endures to the end is saved not those who go halfway and then abort. Your whole life is to glorify God in everything you do!! If your not doing that you cannot be saved atleast not now. There are 24 hours in a day. How much of it are you to give God? All of it or just a little bit.
  • Rob on Psalms 1 - 14 years ago
I thought of This scripture my self to answer your questions will point to more scriptues your right it is the duty of a Christian to save people Jesus sits with sinners to set an example to us but the scripture also says Matthew 7:6
    New Living Translation (©2007)
"Don't waste what is holy on people who are unholy. Don't throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.
Not every sinner can be saved we live in a world that what we say can be used against us for controversy anger and discouragement in ones beliefs it is important to pray for those who are lost to be saved and to ask from the holy spirit to guide you to lead u in those that the lord has chosen does not mean you will not encounter forces against you but you filled with the spirit will overcome

i feel that psalms chapter 1 is saying that a person that runs from ungodly ppl, things and doesnt sit amongst it basks n its presence is a blessed person, they recognize it n will stray. these r delightful in gods eye and they should practice and live by his word all the time.their lives will b peaeful n their spirits unmoved byevil, they wont get drained by eveil bc they pay it no mind n stray everthing will grow n be prosperous.. ungodly ppl arent at peace they live will confusion.
  • Ben weaver on Psalms 1 - 14 years ago
V.1. How then would they be helped? I suppose that walking in ungodly counsel, standing in the way of sinners, and sitting with scorners, is quite the opposite of kindly declining when among such counsel, witnessing Jesus and the good news in the way of sinners, and carefully contributing serious virtue for the scorners to consider. For a person (being a new creation in Christ), to simply avoid the ungodly, would not help them, and likely miss a blessing ourself. In 1 Cor. 9:19-23, Paul shares how he goes out of his way, so that by any means he may save some. However, wandering into questionable environment without being adequately enclosed in Jesus would likely be hazardous. "Going into all the world" Matt. 28:19, may be nearby.

it gives us a map to follow, directions, it tells us our eveyday habits, we have a choice to be godly or ungodly if we are godly we will received gods blessing if we are ungodly we are lost and have no direction.
  • Nette on Psalms 1 - 15 years ago
Jeff. "planted by the rivers of water" mean: When you plant a tree your 1st expectation is to watch it grow and bear leaves, right. But if you do not water it, it will not grow. For us that would mean:If Christians do not bear fruit in their season the tree (which is us) will wither away and cause the tree to die (our interman the Holy Spirit). If you are not walking in your purpose and using what God gave you, then you become just like a tree without it's fruit. You should be excerising your right as a Christian and walking in your calling by helping others and spreading the Gospel and let people know what God has done for you and what he has brought you through. Sometimes Christians are fearful of what the Lord wants us to do but we cannot approach our calling in "FEAR". If you are struggling in this area or maybe you know someone that is study these Bible verses; Isiah 61:3/ Proverbs 11:28/ Psalms 92:12/ Jeremiah 14:1/ Ezekiel 47:12/ Jeremiah 39:18 and Job 29:19.

    @AMY SMYTHE's I shall pray for your son ^-^
I really like verse 1 has a cool ring to it.
  • AMY SMYTHE on Psalms 1 - 15 years ago
The Psalm is so refreshing for the situation of my son . He is so disobedient and rebellious and I have given him the Psalm as a source of hope that if he decides and chooses to confess and repent of his sins he can become an accepted child of God and enter into his destiny.
Do pray for him, his wife and children.
    God Bless
