Jobly, I don't know if you received an answer but here is mine. At that point in time the Pharisees had determined to kill Jesus and persuade Herod to execute him. Jesus was headed to Jerusalem for his final week. He was not the meek and mild mannered man today's pastors make him out to be. He was letting them know when he would be there and at that time he would take over the temple. And on
  • Rev Autrey on Isaiah 26 - 6 years ago
In Isaiah 26:1 Jehovah God promised to bring salvation to Jerusalem. But in Luke 13:34 Jesus applies this to himself by saying, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets and stones them that are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together ... and ye would not!" This means that Jesus is none other than Jehovah himself coming to save us from our sins. Amen
  • Tomaz Zupancic on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Pharisees "advised" him to get out or else be killed, but JC basically said to them: I don't care, look, I'm fulfilling the requirements for the Son of Man and when you kill me, I'll rise.

Jobly; The Lord is continuing to teach and to expound the Word of the Glad Tidings among the people, and to warn all; keeping nothing back, but giving every spiritual insight and good counsel how we are to prepare our ways to meet God when we come to the day of eternity, that we may be accepted and received into eternal life. When the wicked have no other power against Him they resort threatening.
  • Jobly on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Someone to help me on vs 31-32 I don't understand why Jesus used those words. Your help is needed ugently
  • Eutychus on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
vss. 1-5. All of this may well be one of the greater prophesies to be fulfilled with the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 ad. For any who were listening to Jesus that day, were saddled with the necessity of being saved, else they would face terrible destruction come that day. After that of course, would then come judgment...It may be one of the finest altar calls I've ever seen...
  • Servant of God on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Let's just say it: Salvation is not assured or even manifest on earth. It's not and it is plainly obvious. The earth is the proving ground and humans must show their faith in all manner of circumstance. Thus the parables in 13. We all shall likewise parish if we don't repent, take up the cross, love God more than our Mothers and friends. That is what is being taught the 3 years Yeshua walked

Luke 13:3 (lastly) There are so many who really think they are trying to bring people to Jesus; but completely neglect and are totally silent about this most important and absolutely indispensable spiritual and moral action which Jesus says, If we don't do it we will perish! Why can't they say, REPENT?
  • A disciple on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
"Suppose ye that these.. were sinners above all.., because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." In the examples given, it was a brutal atrocity of terrorism perpetrated by the Governor Pilate himself upon some Jewish worshipers; and an innocent group of bystanders who were killed when a building collapsed. All apparently unsaved!

"And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened." The one who fills his heart and mind with the Word of God, the one who lets the Spirit preside over him in his innermost being; this one will eventually be fully all that the LORD God intends for him to be, in character and behavior.
  • A disciple on 1 Timothy 2 - 7 years ago
"Comfort the feeble-minded, support the weak, warn the unruly..." Luke 13:23-29 the Lord declares plainly, as in MANY, MANY places; that not everyone who says to Him, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father." Not the hearers are justified, but the doers! God is not tricked by lip service! If any man have not the Spirit of Christ he is none of His.

"Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbers it the ground?" We were not born into this world for ourselves to idly "cumber the ground" that we occupy. We are made by God and for God and God has provided all things for us to live and be saved. If we don't produce good fruit we are worthless!
  • The Knight on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Oh ye of little faith, who trust in riches as a reward! Little do you know the apocalypse is at your door and the fox is in the henhouse. You have let him in for your perversions and greed. The evil one cut thru your armor which you trusted in and tear you to pieces. Oh that you were even somewhat conscious of what is to come. Your so called armor won't even save. It will make it easier for.
  • A disciple on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Cross Faith (cont.); Yes! Putting on the WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD means, THE ENTIRE WORD OF GOD! Many fantasize and pretend they have a walk with Jesus because they go to a certain church and parrot their favorite preachers' lingo; thinking that they are serving God, while their responses indicate that the Holy Spirit and sound understanding of the Scriptures is completely foreign to them and a threat.
  • A disciple on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Cross Faith; I'm sorry, I don't understand your comment; are you agreeing with what I wrote, and seek a friendly conversation, or are you assuming something else? If you like to talk about the things of the Lord, that's wonderful; and I hope we can edify each other. But if you're just another one with a churchy-spirit who is full of "another gospel" than the Word of God... How can I help you?
  • Cross Faith on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Hey disciple. I've been reading several of your comments throughout the gospels. Put on the full armor of God everyday is a great thing to do.
  • A disciple on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
"Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbers it the ground?" I put these posts in, seeking discussion about the things of the Lord, and when I write to open a discussion with others, its the same; NO REPLY! Our responsiveness to the Spirit of the LORD should be out of a ready mind of love.
  • Arley3 on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Romans 7:23 tells us about the law of sin. Romans 10:9-13 tells us how to be delivered (saved) from this law of sin. When you heart desires sin but your mind tells you sin is wrong, call on the name of Jesus. Ask for the experience of Acts 2. This is the deliverance. Acts 2:16
  • Sylvia on Luke 13 - 7 years ago
Roman 10:9, That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised HIM from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED.

God reads our hearts and he knows whether or not if we are sincere.
  • Arley3 on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Just knowing who Jesus is ( Luke 13:26) doesn't save any one. Just believing that he will save you doesn't save anyone ( Luke 13:26). If you are working iniquity ( Luke 13:27), except to be weeping and gnashing teeth ( Luke 13:28). That is unless you repent ( Luke 13:3
  • Anna on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Irene: No contradiction. Reading the bible will not save us. We can read it with a prayer that God will feed us with what we need. There are people who repent just before death who have never read the bible. (the thief on the cross) Someone with the holy spirit can preach to them. First the law and then to a broken and contrite heart- the forgiveness of sins.
  • Irene123 on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Anna - first you agreed with Steph, then you disagreed with him; you've got me confused. Do we need to read the Bible or not?
  • Lu2677 on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Bruce, please read Luke 13:27-30 and Matthew 20:16 "Many will be called, few will be chosen"
Don't let this be you. Furthermore, in your attempt to sway me from the truth you may just be causing a weaker one to fall. I believe God said "Woe to you" in this case. You have not made an impression on me. I will leave you to your unbelief and hope the Lord will deliver you from your deception.
  • Anna on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Steph: That's right. Nobody needs to be a bible scholar to be saved. We can be simple sheep. First we need to hear the two edged sword, word of God, preaching of sins and need for repentance. It must burn our conscience that only hell is before us. Find His own flock for release. We need to have the right self knowledge and put away the daily sins that burden us and make our walk difficult.
  • Stephende on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
Chap.13 tells us that what you assume is not necessarily so. We shall all perish if we don't repent, which is to say that we depend no longer on our assumptions but on the Word of God. It is the most difficult thing, the strait gate and is not for everyone but this is the calling! This is why Jesus came, not to the religious but to the people. He came to criticise, not to cajole. So be it
  • A disciple on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
"...but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." This is may seem hard to accept, since so much of the way we were raised to think; how that our character and behaviors have consequences; thereby many think because they are not as bad as others, that they don't deserve it. But they leave out the whole truth about whether at all they are reconciled to God by repentance, and so truly safe.

Proverbs 13:3 "Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin." MY MY MY! WE MUST ASK OURSELVES HOW MANY TIMES DID WE SPEAK RASHLY AND IT HELP OUR SITUATIONS??? WE ALL ARE GUILTY OF USING OUR DEADLY TONGUE IN A HARSH WAY CAUSE OF FEELINGS GETTING HURT OR HAVING DEEP ROOTED BITTERNESS! James 3:8 "But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless
  • Steph: on Luke 13 - 8 years ago
No one needs to be a Bible scholar! Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of truth. 2Timothy 3:7. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2Peter2:2. The LORD hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil. Proverbs 16:4--you don't need to know one word of the Bible, just that you are a sinner
