    When Jesus asked the woman at the well for a drink, He was telling her she needed to drink from the well of living water. The woman had been married five times, and the man she was with was not her husband. Jesus knew she needed to be saved, and that is why He told his disciples my meat is to do the will of God: which is to seek and to save the lost. The woman believed, and received Jesus as her personal Savior. Salvation is of the Jews, and Jesus is the Messiah. The fields are white, and the harvest is ready. Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel, for the hour has come for the true worshipers of God to worship Him in spirit, and in truth. The nobleman believe Jesus, and his son was healed. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shall be saved, and thine household.
  • Stanley on John 4:24 - 12 years ago
    Without a shadow of doubt,GOD is a Spirit;but He is so much more.We then who are born of His spirit must "learn" to worship in spirit and in truth,it's not automatic as many would proclaim to believe.The apostle Paul in phil.4:11...says "...for I have "learned" in whatever state I am to be content: whoever then does not is only fooling themselves. True worship is "learned" through the Word of GOD (JESUS)and by the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT. As we submit to this truth we then become vessels fit for the Master's use as we walk by faith and not by sight.

    How does this Samaritan woman who admits of no dealing between her people and Jewish (sic Judean) people know and believe the Jewish expectation about the coming of messiah and his powers?

    I think it's more a case of a Samaritan Jewess knowing the expectations all too well but that the author forgets that she isn't supposed to know about this particular Messiah (Jesus) yet because the mission has barely got started!

    I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Christians would understand this to mean 'Christ the Messiah' and therein lies the mistake, whereas in fact it is an innocent if redundant tautology; 'Messiah(Greek) the Messiah(Hebrew) which doesn't need to be spoken at all if the woman only knows of the expectation. If on the other hand she had in fact got wind of the claim earlier than most she would more likely have spoken of 'the Nazerene Messiah'.

  • Ruth A on Genesis 2 - 12 years ago
    Genesis 2 is similar to Genesis 1. They both deal with one Subject. The Subject at the core of these chapters is God, Creator. He does not allow man to be the central idea there. It is God. To be created in His image and likeness is to be created as essentially spirit, like God is ( John 4:24). We are at our core, spirit. The flesh is an outward shelter which is temporal. The spirit is what can know God and it is eternal.
    Concerning the sabbath (rest). God was modelling what was good for man ( Mark 2:27). But God did NOT institute a sabbath commandment there at that point. He modelled the rest, and Adam and Eve in this place of heavenly oneness with God, free from sin, were at rest. The commandment came later.

    Jesus himself stated that "the Father is greater than I am." – John 4:28. This statement is true and I believe Jesus was referring to his form at the time which was in the flesh and before and after his existence he was and is God as he and the Father are the same.

    II Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourself, whether ye be in the faith, prove yourself:
    - Do you enjoy spiritual fellowship with God, with Christ, and fellow believers ( 1 John 1:3, 4). Neglect not assembly.
    - What is your attitude toward the world and its values ( 1 John 2:15). Love not the world.
    - Are you obedient to the commandments of the scriptures ( 1 John 2:3-5).
    - We know him because we keep his commandments.
    - Do you have the ability to discern between spiritual truth and error (1 John 4:1-6).
    - Do you live sinless now since you have professed faith in Christ ( 1 John 3:5, 6).
    - Do you fall to temptation ( 1 John 1:5-10).
    - Do you believe the basic doctrines of the faith ( 1 John 5:1). God so love the world. Have you experienced persecution for your Christian faith ( John 15:18-20). They hated Jesus.
    - Do you love other believers ( 1 John 3:14). He that loves not knows not God.
    - Do you have the inner witness of the Holy Spirit (1 John 4:13). Our spirit bears record with his spirit.
    - Have you experienced answered prayers ( 1 John 3:22).
    - Do you love Jesus and look forward to His coming ( 1 John 3:2, 3).

    @Ron Steward,
    A lot of good comments here all about one God but what do you do with John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.......” Can you be your own son. Can you give yourself to yourself. And Genesis Where it says "Let Us make man in our Own image. Does God talk to himself? And David said "The Lord said unto my Lord sit the on my right hand......" Again, does God talk to Himself? There are three God-heads but these three are as one. This is hard for flesh to comprehend as we cannot imagine three people acting as one person so much so that you would think it was just one person but this is exactly what the Trinity is. 1 John 4:15 "Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God." I confess that Jesus is the son of God. How can you be your own son? It is wrong, How you made it as trinity Where Bible said that Father, Son, and Spirit are one?
  • Kris on John 1 - 12 years ago
    In order to get the proper meaning, one must consider two things:
    1. The Greek words used in the text, as this passage was written in Greek, and
    2. How this scripture corresponds to others, rather than making it stand on its own.
    Due to the translation of the Greek word used, many Bible scholars choose to translate the latter part as "a God", or as "divine". This would support the rest of the Bible, both Old and New Testaments which refer to Jesus as having been created by God, serving as his only begotten son, and "the firstborn of all creation." – Colossians 1:13-16. Jesus himself stated that "the Father is greater than I am." – John 4:28. The scriptures as a whole support Jesus being the only-begotten son of God, sent here to make God’s name and Kingdom known, demonstrate the benefits of that Kingdom for humankind, and to provide a "ransom in exchange for many".- Matthew 20:28, Mark 10:45.
  • Vincent Aja on Matthew 15 - 12 years ago
    I do believe that we are still taking the words of God out of their contexts simply because we do approach the Bible with our minds already made up with denominational doctrines. Otherwise something written in a plain English text shows that the Lord Jesus` accepting to be worshipped proved Him to be God ( John 20:28, Revelation 1:17-18). Another truth that this passage has also displayed is that the Jews were the FIRST CHURCH ( Acts 7:38), and that the Kingdom of God belongs to them because of the “Covenants” that God had made with their father, and again what the Syrophenician woman displayed here is that through faith the Gentiles will receive mercy and be part of the Kingdom of God. It is very wrong for anybody to teach that God has taken the Kingdom away from the Jews and gave it to the Gentiles. The only way that we can harmonize the Word of God is when we begin to crosscheck what was said in one place with another; and not apply theories to the words of God. For example what the Lord Jesus said here was in agreement with John 4: 22 where He says that, salvation is of the Jews, and in the same manner the Apostle Paul had followed Him with that tone. He disapproved every theory that the Kingdom was taken from the Jews for he always said, of the Jews first then the Gentiles Romans 1:16, etc.

  • Harry on 1 Corinthians 5:11 - 12 years ago
    The main thing here is not to base your ministry on man’s teaching. We test the spirits with the written word, not just John 4:1. Every topic has to be tested with the written word under its own topic to get a clear test on. Far too many will hear a teaching on a topic and go by it, rather than going by what the word states. Matthew 6 is a good example; we hear about all the prosperity teachings, on how much someone gave and what he got in return. The scripture tells us not to advertise. That is a ploy to entice people to give more. Not sparing the flock, these people get robbed in the name of the Lord, for trusting in man’s teaching.

    @Frenz,
    On how to get saved:
    1. You make a statement that a person must accept Jesus Christ in baptism to be saved in order to go to heaven;
    2. If this is a reference that water baptism is part of a person’s being born again then I must state that the scriptures do not support this belief;
    3. In the church age (age of grace), water baptism is never connected to salvation;
    4. The apostle Paul (apostle to gentiles) says in 1 Corinthians 1:17 that Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect;
    5. So you can determine that water baptism is not part of the gospel message which is the death, burial, and resurrection ( 1 Corinthians 15:1-4), Jesus baptized no one ( John 4:2);
    6. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as his/her saviour, at that moment they are baptized (filled) in with the holy spirit (ghost);
    7. The word baptism means to be immerse (not sprinkled or water poured over the head) and is called believer’s baptism, because it represents the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ ( Romans 6:1-6), which is what happens to a person spiritually at the time we receive Jesus Christ as our savior;
    8. Born again believers get baptized because they are saved, not to get saved;
    9. Christians are baptized in water as act of public display of their faith they received from him ( Hebrews 12:2),and they are making an open commitment to serve and obey Jesus according to the scriptures.

    The woman had committed fornication with 5 people and therefore spiritually she was married to them without the woman having got married to the men in the court of Law or traditionally. Due to her fornication, she was not paired with the rightful man God had prepared for her. She had committed fornication with the man with whom she was staying with, that’s why she said she did not have a husband but Jesus mentioned that she should go and fetch the her husband whom she stayed with.

    I would like to focus on verses 23 and 24; Saying But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Precisely God is looking for a true worshipper in this scenario, who will worship him in Spirit and Truth. So many people believed and worship God, Praising God but they don't know if whom they are worshipping. Here God stated that we must have the qualifications that God wants to see. Verse 24; God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. It is true that God is Spirit that is a fact 1+1=11. Being Spirit, He doesn't have a body, doesn't have a blood, a bone, even flesh meaning God is invisible, we cannot see him but we can feel him. Being He is the TRUTH this is the power of God to forgive on our sins, to save us from our sins without accepting the process of God for salvation then we cannot enter into the Kingdom of God which John 3:5 stated. Unless a man is born of water & of Spirit he cannot enter into God's Kingdom. Because our destiny actually is for damnation in hell, once you died you are already judged ( Hebrews 9:27). And there is NO MORE HOPE for salvation to our SOUL, because we are all BORN SINNERS according to ( Psalms 55:1, Romans 3: 10,23) and the wages of sins is death. We will all die in flesh and some of will all die Spiritually in hell if they don’t repent. The only remedy is to accept Jesus Christ in Baptism bacause this is His command before ascending in heaven that he commanded his disciples to baptize all nation in his name ( Acts 2:38-39). That is the reason that God seeketh a TRUE WORSHIPPER WHO WILL WORSHIP HIM WITHOUT SEEING ANYTHING because God is Spirit. God bless you all. Jesus loves us!

  • Louvenia Green Hicks on Romans 3:3 - 12 years ago
    I "DO" know this: JEHOVAH GOD spoke "verbally" three things to me during the trial. In 1 John 4:1, I found it to be a spiritual warfare. I was "not" prepared. It took me to the edge of sanity, a battle in the mind that produced visible revelation.
    1. Louvenia, who comes to ME and reasons with ME or persuade ME that I may change my mind;
    2. Louvenia, who decides between you (man) and ME (GOD HIMSELF) who is right or who is wrong;
    3. HE said to me: you go to your director and he tells you something, then your co-worker tells you something else, now you change your mind with new information. JEHOVAH GOD said, look I know "all" things. I AM ALMIGHTY GOD, no one can come to ME and tell ME anything I do not already know. This is why I do not change my mind/break a promise. The spiritual warfare left me undecided toward life, knowing that ALL things are in subjections to ALMIGHTY GOD approval. So NO, NO, NO, if men believe or do not believe, I believe this does not move GOD to break HIS promise or HIS will. Trust me, By faith! I requested death (cursed! myself), in order to separate myself from the very thing I was in the midst of. Only to awake! And find myself instructed and repositioned, in that very thing! I was in the midst of 1 John 4:1 Spiritual warfare. I personally found that death did not separate me from ALMIGHTY JEHOVAH GOD, because I knew what death is.

    1. The woman came into contact with the seventh man! Her life became complete because she had met a man of completeness. All other men who met this woman could not quench her thirst;
    2. The word of God whenever it is preached, must tell us what we are for real. We repent because we have been told what we are. We tell other people about the Jesus who tells us who we are. If the word does not awaken within us that, then it goes without doing anything... God help us!

    ...Ye are gods. Psalms 82:6 means a lot to me. Wow! How amazing to realize that I'm not an ordinary human being but God. Parents begat their offspring to look like them. A monkey begets its kind. A goat same. God begets god. He that is from the Spirit is spirit. In other words, when we got born again, we’re literally like God. If we realize this truth, the devil will see you and flee. As He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). We are His children, that's why, "ye are gods. Hallelujah!
  • Biodun Williams on Proverbs 4 - 12 years ago
    God's wisdom has Fatherly instructions, corrections, admonitions, information and guidance in them. As a matter of divine fact, His Wisdom originates from a heart of love, mercy, and compassion that are beyond human comprehension. Therefore, they are meant to stir you and I, as it were, into the favours and strength of God. And because God is God, and there is none compared to Him, it means that He can't lie. Hence, it is worthwhile and wise to give concentrated attention to His Word. God's Word is His Wisdom and His wisdom are His dictates, and they are meant for the good of whoever believes ( 2 Corinthians 12:9; Hebrews 4:16). Truthfully speaking, the fact that God does not do evil, but that He only does what is good and right, should encourage whoever cares to listen, to plunge into His truths, and also into His wisdom- and that must be through Jesus Christ, and also through the Holy Spirit, the Eternal Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 5:10; 2 Corinthians 3:5). The nuggets of truths, in this Proverbs 4, like others, are godlike precepts and instructions that are incomparable, good and right for the human soul, and for the spirit man, the hidden man of the heart, - and that mainly refers to the recreated human spirit. They are facets of biblical truths that are encouraging and also excellent for the godly type of life that many are craving and thirsting for ( Psalms 1:1-3, Psalms 37:4; Ephesians 1:17). Interestingly, depending perhaps on what background, a Christian comes from, the fact is that for the really genuine and committed type of Christian, a time will or must come that he will come into the knowledge that this God of Israel, the Father of our LORD Jesus Christ deserves to be magnified, glorified and worshipped; for there is none like Him ( John 4:23; 1 Peter 1:25). Thus, the place of wisdom, in the lives of whoever desires and dares to love and honour the Living God ( John 1:12; 3:16). He is, all that matters- and when you and I key into His love and faithfulness, He will do great wonders through us to the glory of His name. In view of these and many other things vis a vis the Word of God, wisdom dictates that we give ourselves committedly unto the LORD, and to His Word ( Matthew 6:33,34). There are challenges upon challenges that confront us, as individuals, and that is why, these truths and instructions, as contained in Proverbs, and throughout the pages of the Holy Writ, demand that we be faithfully committed to them. Remember, we have been accepted, into the family of the Beloved, and that refers to Jesus Christ ( John 17:3; Romans 8: 15; Ephesians 2:18; Galatians 4:16,1; Hebrews 9:14; 1 John 4:3; 5:13). And that is where the grace of God comes on board; His grace is more than sufficient ( 1 Corinthians 15:10; 2 Corinthians 3:5; 2 Corinthians 12:9). God has abilities no matter what task or assignment He has called you and I for. When you commit yourself to God's dictates and function in line with them, Angels will go on assignment for you ( John 15:7; James 4:16.). There are levels and degrees of encounters with God, that we can't get into except through daily obedience and practical submission to the Word of God. In fact there is nothing, as far as I know that can surpass what God has given. He has given Jesus Christ, who is referred to biblically, as the Wisdom of God, - and that is for the salvation and redemption of humanity. And when you belong to Him through the agency of the new birth, you automatically become joint heirs with Him. And with that you are sorted if you know how to walk or function in love, and then take advantage of what He has given through Christ Jesus, the Saviour of the World. The essence of these is that we should give attention to wisdom, embrace it, reflect upon it, and practice it. God's instructions and precepts demands heartfelt obedience ( Psalm 119:6; John 14:15; John 15:120; 1 Corinthians 7:19; 1 Peter 1:25; 1 John 5:3). It says whatever you do in word and deed, do it heartily as unto the LORD. Hence, in the things of the Spirit, and that refers to the Holy Spirit, high level of commitment should be the norm, and that is because God cannot lie, - and His Word is forever infallible ( John 1:1-14; Hebrews 4). Truly, God is forever trustworthy.

    Jesus said in these verse! Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not mention NAMES but name (SINGULAR) (Proper Noun) Father, Son and Holy Spirit is NOT A NAME they are ALL TITLES! It is the name of God (JESUS CHRIST) that we should be baptize and not the TITLE for there is ONLY ONE GOD ( Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 John 5:20; Isaiah 43:10) Jehovah is Jehovah Saviour Jesus Christ revealed in the New Testament that is why there is NOT without this the plan will not be fulfilled, ( Gal 4:3-4) Fullness of time has come God sent forth his Son born of a woman ( Isaiah 7:14) God will give you a "SIGN" ( Isaiah 9:6) This boy will be given a name Emmanuel ( Matthew 1:20-23) That it is the Angel Gabriel who gave the name of this child and his name is Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins. That is why there is power in his name! Jesus will SET YOU FREE ( John 8:32) for Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father except through ME (Jesus). Because BAPTISM refers to REMISSION OF SINS, without baptism our SINS are not forgiven and our soul is destined to hell, that is why He said in Romans 6:23: ‘’For the wages of Sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ’’. This is God's Plan of salvation. The offering of Bulls and animals is not good in the sight of God that is why He sent his Son born of a woman to redeem those who are under the law ( Galatians 4:3-4). And God is Spirit ( John 4:24), He came into world as a sinful flesh to die on the cross for our sins. That is why that in the name of Jesus there is Remission of Sins ( Acts 2:38); In the name of Jesus there is salvation ( Acts 4:12); in the name of Jesus there is healing. In other words without this process our soul will not be saved. Our faith must have WORKS ( James 2:24) God bless you all.
