The question is. Why didn't God take the souls of the righteous of the OT in Heaven instead of sending them temporarily in Hades? The answer is that because the Blood of Jesus had not been shed yet. And without His blood nobody goes to Heaven. Why not?
Hebrews 9:22, "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission."
Any blood? Hebr 10:4, "For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins."
Only Christ's Blood cleans people's sins. Rom 3:25, "Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;"
So we the believers now,"19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;" Hebr 10:19-20.
But that was not the case with the OT Jews. Yes they were righteous in the sense that they obeyed God's commandements at those ages, yes they walked with God, BUT without Jesus' Blood they were in no way without sin. So they didn't have the right to enter the Holy of the Holies which means in the very presence of God. So God left them temporarily in a nice plce to be comforted until Jesus' Blood was shed. And onwards His resurrection He cariried their souls in Heaven under the altar together with all other souls of the righteous waiting for the resurrection of the dead. The latter is a common belief of many christian churches.
Thank you. I agree, it is interesting, and some topics may never reveal the full truth. As Paul said, with milk and meat, we may not be ready to understand everything, 1 Corinthians 3:2. We share our understanding out of respect for each other, hoping to inspire prayer and study for the truth.
Can we understand Enoch being translated so he wouldn't see death? How does this fit with Romans 5:12, which says death passed upon all men because all have sinned; Romans 5:14, which states death reigned from Adam to Moses; and Hebrews 9:27, which says it is appointed unto men once to die?
Then there's Jesus saying in John 3:13, "And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven." I have my thoughts, but I keep them in my head. There are things God has not revealed, and we must accept this, as in Deuteronomy 29:29.
2 Corinthians 5:9, like Enoch, teaches us that it is by faith we must live, regardless of what we see. Paul confidently states that he would rather be absent from the body and present with the Lord. When are we absent from this body? Many believe it's when this body dies, but I feel this idea is influenced by Greek philosophy about the immortal soul.
To me, Scripture, 1 Corinthians 15:51-58, says we are raised, not descending; it says we are changed, not rejoined. It says we are mortal and will put on immortality, that's something we did not have before. When we are resurrected, we put on immortality. This is our victory over death and the grave, given to us through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I agree, we are to be overcomers. Revelation 3:5, Jesus said, "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment, and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels."
I received a comment in my last series of postings which seems to indicate the theories and such I have been presenting may have worn out their welcome as it were to understanding specifically the subject of seeming contradictions and vicissitudes within the Godhead. Given there is no further interest or response to that subject I will not continue to pursue scriptures in regard to that subject in particular.
I thought instead I would turn to another subject perhaps tangentially related to this; and that is prayer. I have covered in detail how to pray and scripture basically makes it clear to be certain that we haven't harbored ill will toward others; that we aren't praying for our own desires at the exclusion of truly seeking God's will and that to the best we can we pray according to God's will as to general scriptural precedent and the direction our individual lives seem to be according to His will regarding our gifts; calling and circumstances.
Overall; of course I agree that we can't possibly fathom God in terms of His attributes or what He's about to do short term. In general; we CAN hold to what the scriptures state are eternal truths; so we know for instance NOT to pray for someone once they have passed from this world (viewing Hebrews 9:27 as one key text; and verses in the O.T. warning against necromancy).
The Great Commission is a start as to the focus where we should be centered; and that of course would cover evangelism to the lost as well as discipleship of new believers. That second category no doubt is the weaker link as it were; we only need to listen to sermons to see this. We therefore should heed to Christ's example; as He spent generous amounts of time in prayer particularly at night and focused attention on His Disciples along with the time preaching to the crowds which of course at times intersected the former. The concept of fasting and prayer supplemented with a fast of sleep (sometimes all night prayer) are all factors.
We see one such case of man's accusation of God not being fair when we read Ezekiel 18. This whole chapter merely focuses on man's perverted concepts of family guilt or a curse as some like to present it and ignoring the fact that everyone who loves God breaks the curses (as Deuteronomy explains); and that each individual either justifies themselves or condemns themselves based on their own actions. There are many scriptures that present the concept of judgment being worse for those who once followed at least externally God's laws than those who never knew the truth. I won't elaborate further in this posting.
Anyway; before we go any further the obvious "elephant in the room" so to speak is the fact that God can do whatever He pleases. ( Psalm 115:3 and a plethora of other references in the Bible). What is predestined and determined to come to pass may seem to contradict God changing His mind or "repenting" as some passages indicate; most often if not ALWAYS due to the intercession of individuals (such as Abraham and Moses during rebellious episodes in the wilderness). Christ; of course ever intercedes for our prayers in heaven as Hebrews indicates.
There IS a certainly that God's plans for salvation are only through the atonement of Christ; whether one calls themselves a "Calvanist" or "Arminian" that point would be in agreement; the contention being how much our own volition plays a part in salvation. The fact that we aren't the arbitrators of our own destiny on our terms should be abundantly clear from scripture.
After death; of course it is too late as Hebrews 9:27 makes perfectly clear. We truly MUST believe in the heart and of course from the abundance of the heart the "mouth speakest". A "decision" for the Lord that doesn't involve the heart but is merely mental asset is something I have already alluded to with my previous posts today. But God grants repentance involving reverence for Holiness.
In Matthew 16:16- And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
(the Son of the living God.) This is interpreted Jesus is God. Why this is important? I will come back to that.
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.
Jesus is telling Peter "on this basis (Jesus being God) will set the cornerstone for the foundation that the Church will be built on.
Hebrews 9:22-24 reads "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Jesus was the only perfect sacrifice that could present himself as that perfect Lamb from God that could atone for our sins.
Peter says in Acts 4:11-12 "This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Jesus wasn't a descendent from Adam where he carried sin in the flesh as all of man kind.
He was brought foward by the Spirit of God. Matthew 1:20-21.
Hebrews 2:14 reads "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Listen to Jesus in John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
How do we begin? The 7-year tribulation is taken from the 490-year prophecy in Daniel 9:25-27. The he in Daniel 9:27 is said to be the antichrist, who will make a 3.5-year peace treaty with Israel. Midway through this week, he will cause the abomination that makes desolate, leading to 3.5 years of great tribulation.
In verse 25, it states there will be 69 weeks from the commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah, 483 years. This was fulfilled when Jesus was baptized and anointed with the Holy Spirit, as seen in Matthew 3:13-17. Jesus confirms His identity as the Messiah in Luke 3:16-21, and John denies being the Christ but speaks of Jesus in John 1:33-34.
Daniel 9:26 states that after sixty-two weeks, the Messiah will be cut off. The 7 weeks, or 49 years, had already passed, a period during which the temple and part of the wall were rebuilt. Jesus' ministry was 3.5 years, so His crucifixion was 69 weeks plus 3.5 years, totaling 486.5 years of the 490-year prophecy, leaving only 3.5 years of the 490-year prophecy.
The people of the prince who shall come are those who will destroy the city and the sanctuary. This refers to Titus, the prince, and the Roman army, the people, who destroyed Jerusalem and the temple in AD 70 for their abominations and rejection.
In verse 27, it is in the middle of the 70th week, Jesus' crucifixion causes the sacrifice and oblation to cease, Hebrews 9:12. During the remaining 3.5 years, Jesus was confirming the covenant to Israel through His apostles, as seen in Matthew 15:24, to the Jew first, Romans 1:16, which ended when the leaders of Jerusalem stopped their ears, Acts 7:54-60.
It says, "for the overspreading of abominations, he shall make it desolate." The he in verse 27 refers to Jesus, not an antichrist. The leaders of Jerusalem are the ones who spread the abominations, and Jesus made it desolate, as described in Matthew 23:37-38. Read the entire chapter of Matthew 23.
The Gospel of the Kingdom is the message preached during Jesus' earthly ministry, proclaiming the arrival of God's kingdom on earth through His reign as Messiah,
This was to the Jews while they continued faithfulness and righteousness under the Mosaic Law which was appropriate.
In Matthew 3:15 we see Jesus being of age asking John to baptized him.
"And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus IT BECOMETH US TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS. Then he suffered him.
I believe Jesus was baptized and inaugurated under the Levitical priesthood to fulfill and end that priesthood at the Cross and bring in the new covenant with his death which was necessary.
Hebrews 9:16-17 'For where a testament is, there MUST ALSO OF NECESSITY BE THE DEATH OF THE TESTATOR.
For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
in the beginning the Gospel of the kingdom was to first a gather the lost sheep of Israel who lost their way.
Then offer up the Kingdom.
Matthew 23:37-39.
That has been postponed!
I believe the mystery was to be revealed at that time also, "after the Gathering" and bringing both Jews and Gentiles under the new covenant by the cross.
However as expected, Israel denied their Messiah and all but a remnant was blinded until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
I am posting this subject aware of the firestorm of comments that is no doubt going to be sprung forth; hopefully my caution in how I present this topic will bring some who wish to post to at least ponder the details here before a surface level rebuttal.
Let me start by stating what this posting is NOT. This is not supporting those who made a verbal confession and know in their hearts that they aren't in right standing with the Lord and aren't producing fruit which means they truly have no love for Christ; His authority and Lordship over their lives. It isn't for those who hold out the salvation card as a get out of hell free pass that excuses their behavior; clearly involving lifesyles of sinful behaviors; actions and motives that show their old nature has NOT been crucified.
Now it is clear that Satan is described as the accuser; we can see this in Revelation 12; Zechariah 3:1 with Joshua the High Priest; or with Job 1 and 2 where Satan is allowed to affect Job so that he may accuse him of falling away once things happen to him. The act of accusation indicates the Lord is present in a large part; so that it appears in the Bible it is only God's people or at least primarily them who are affected by this. The complaint goes to the Lord who allows for blessings for man which of course the enemy hates as it thwarts his millenniums long plan to usurp God's throne and take worship over for the whole world to himself.
Let me word it this way; proper understanding of what salvation means only begins at the time of confession and repentance. For a true saint of God; of course as time goes on elements of their sinful nature become gradually exposed like an onion being peeled as they are changed from the inside out. The final salvation comes with that of the body at the Resurrection or the Rapture; but the soul is perfected upon death and judgment as Hebrews 9:27 makes abundantly clear.
There has been plenty of discussions on the rapture topic and the proof has been presented.
The rapture isn't what we call the second coming.
You said you agree that our gathering to the Lord will be quick after the sounding of the trumpet and the appearing of Jesus, which is why the term harpazo is used. But I believe that this passage is speaking of the second and only return of Jesus at the end of the age.
Thanks, that gives me something to build off of.
I will attempt to show why I don't believe that it speaks of the second coming.
Give me some time because I am in the middle of preparing for my work week.
And as for your question "e" "Where does Scripture teach that Jesus would have gone on to establish His kingdom on earth if the Jews would have accepted Him as their Messiah?
I also don't believe in that.
I believe that the cross was necessary to atone for the sins of the world.
In Matthew 26:39-44 Jesus prayed 3 times "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
If it was any other way like the Jews accepting Christ as savior the Father didn't answer that prayer.
That would be totally against all of scripture clear back to Genesis!
And we would be still under the Levitical priesthood and the old covenant!
That would also be against what is mentioned throughout the book of Hebrews!
Especially Hebrews 9:15-17.
I also don't recall ever seeing that viewpoint being presented on this site.
I also don't see how that fits into a dispensationalists theology or viewpoint.
I understand this is debated, but this is my understanding.
1 Peter 3:18-20: 18, For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit. This was a once-and-for-all sin offering, as mentioned in Romans 8:3 and Hebrews 9:11-14, to bring us to God so that God can now dwell with humanity through our Lord Jesus Christ.
It is God who quickens the dead, as stated in Romans 4:17, by the Spirit. Jesus, being put to death in the flesh but quickened by the Spirit. Jesus was dead for three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, the grave/tomb. He was quickened, which means brought back to life, when He was resurrected in His glorified body. Jesus is the first begotten of the dead, Revelation 1:5, the Firstfruits of them that slept, 1 Corinthians 15:20. Sleep, the Greek word koimao, meaning to put to sleep, be dead.
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. By the same Spirit that quickened Jesus, Jesus went and preached/proclaimed to these spirits in prison.
Who are these spirits who were disobedient in the time of Noah? Angels are spirits, Psalm 104:4, Hebrews 1:7. Devils/demons are spirits, familiar spirits, evil spirits, unclean spirits. Humans have a spirit, but are never called spirits. Humans are mortal; the soul who sins will die, and the dead know not anything. Immortality is a gift from God, and in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we find our hope for eternal life.
We see this long-suffering in Genesis 6:1-8. 120 years were given for repentance, but we see that only eight souls were saved by the water.
Nice to hear from you again CrossTalker. So, to your questions.
a. You can read a little about Tobit in the book of the same name; and you can find it on this KJBO Site under Standard KJB Apocrypha. Tobit was from the tribe of Naphtali and was apparently blind (Tobit 2:7-10). Since I am not at all studied in any of these apocryphal books, I will leave you to research the man & his writings; remembering this is what is considered OT Apocrypha, writings between the Testaments, which neither the Jews nor Jesus referred to. Hence, proceed with caution, would be my best advice.
b. Re: yoga. Coming from a partial Indian background and knowing what is done over there by its adherents, I would stay well clear of it. In the Indian context, yoga is a holistic discipline involving various physical postures (asanas), breath control (pranayama), and meditation (with chanting & prayers to the deities), deeply rooted in the spiritual (Hindu) and philosophical traditions. In our Western society, the emphasis is mainly on the physical side, but I say, why dabble in something that has its roots in idolatry and mysticism, when a believer can engage in many other useful physical exercises with the greatest spiritual exercise of all in prayer & reading & meditating on God's Word.
c. I'm unsure where this person gained the information of "double judgements" and "light punishment". It would be useful to know what Scriptures were used to support this. Maybe, some RC teaching of praying for the dead & therefore the need of a purgatory are reflected here, and even this teaching is taken & interpreted from the apocryphal book 2 Maccabees 12:39-45. Whereas the Bible clearly tells us that all of us are sinners and worthy of punishment in hell, but for the Grace of God to save us if only we repent and turn from sin and take hold of His Son in faith to redeem us ( Romans 3:23,24; Hebrews 9:27). To Page 2.
We just finished a very small group (Me and 2 others) and prayer was put up for you.
I don't know where you are as far as knowledge in your mind and more importantly His Spirit in your heart and soul to guide you.
I agree with the lady who commented about there vbeing a reason you are there; and I have to believe there are some other believers there you will have interaction with. If you ask for the truth He will show you. If you did have a relationship with God then you will know His voice when He speaks.
As a believer we have access to the throne of heaven and are seated in heavenly places ( Eph. 2:6). Hopefully all the comments up here are encouraging as to others giving you advice who have also been in difficult trials hence you aren't alone. Obviously Hebrews 9:27 is something to consider; we all stand before the judgment seat of Christ when we leave this earth. Jesus promises rewards and crowns to those who patiently wait for His coming ( 2 Tim. 4:8).
As for your abusive family member; I have been through years of that myself with my father. I was just reading a letter he wrote in response to mine in 2013 and basically he berated what he considered fanciful belief in the Bible and its historicity; through his own worldview. My mom had to put up with his nastiness even when she was dying last year from cancer. Now with his advanced dementia he doesn't even mind being in a facility and doesn't put up a fight anymore. Keep in mind that you may be there for your mom; and that your uncle as invincible as he may seem needs to be warned about the wrath to come. Maybe you are the one to do it.
As close as I got to your situation was after years of an abusive marriage when my wife divorced me and was having an affair.
That and during financial crises where we made foolish decisions and I had the pressure of bill collectors. Now 20 years later He has blessed me financially. I will pray for you again tonight and for the coming days.
Regarding the return of Jesus, I only see in Scripture that He returns once. As seen in 1 Matthew 24:29-31, Mark 13:24-27, Luke 21:25-28, John 14:3, Acts 1:11, 1 Corinthians 15:51-55, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4, Hebrews 9:28, Revelation 1:7, Revelation 6:12-17, Revelation 19:11-21, through Revelation 20:1-6, is the same event when Jesus returns, and it occurs after the tribulation of the beast. My understanding is that there is only one Day of the Lord, and that is when Jesus returns.
Regarding the Messiah, I have never asked a Jew about their understanding of it. What I have previously read about Jewish faith is that one day a charismatic Jewish leader, the anointed of God, a man with the characteristics of God, a direct descendant of the Davidic line, will gather Jews from around the world, and bring them back to the Land of Israel and restore the kingdom ridding them of all oppressors.
That was what they were looking for during the time Jesus was here during His 3.5-year ministry, a human conqueror. The disciples were looking for Him to set up the kingdom; they even asked Him after He was resurrected, Acts 1:6-7. They were looking for what we see will happen in the millennium when Jesus returns to earth.
It was mainly the leaders of Jerusalem who did not see or did not hear, which caused blindness in part to happen to Israel, who rejected Jesus; many accepted Jesus as the Messiah while He was here. The leaders of Jerusalem played a prominent role in turning the crowds against Jesus, and it was the nation of Israel as a whole that rejected Him. And today, most Jews do not believe the Messiah has come.
I know we may not agree, but I hope I answered your question.
Hebrews 9:10 - Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.
Reformation in Greek means restoring that which is crooked, or to make straight that which is crooked, which will be completed at the second coming of Christ.
Hebrews 10:14 - For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Sanctified is a verb form of the word holy. HAGIOS is the Greek word for holy. It's also the word for saint. It's not the word for holy in the sense of purity, but holy in the sense of position. It means to be set apart. For instance, the vessels in the temple were said to be holy and set apart for God's use. But that didn't mean that they weren't scratched or dented or didn't have flaws. It meant their position and use was set apart for God's use.
When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, it's the word holy. Holy is an adjective. He's the Holy Spirit of God. He's the Holy Spirit of Christ. Holy is an adjective that describes what kind of Spirit He is. He's set apart. He only belongs to God, He only represents God, and He only does the things of God. He doesn't do the common things outside of God's will because He's the Spirit of God.
When the Holy Spirit comes into my spirit, or my soul, I am then called a saint. It's the same word (HAGIOS). Once His Spirit comes into my life, I am set apart for Him. I'm not a saint because of my performance. Whether a Christian understands it or not, that's where our biggest struggle is. God already has us set apart for His purposes, but we keep trying to go the other way. We keep trying to do our purposes. Our struggle is more with the Lord than it is with Satan.
The verb form (HAGIADZO) that represents the coming of the Holy Spirit into my life, that's called my sanctification. I have been set apart. A saved person is sanctified, and everybody that is sanctified has been perfected, completed!
Jesus met with Moses and Elijah who discussed His coming death (see Luke 9:31). Peter, James and John were the three that came up with Him as I mentioned earlier ( Matthew 17:1). Verse 12 indicates that Elijah had come already as a type of forerunner in the spirit or likeness as it were of John the Baptist (verse 13).
Elijah must come first before Christ returns the second time (verses 10-11; see Malachi 4:5-6). This seems to make certain that he is one of the two prophets mentioned in Revelation 11. I would argue strongly against Moses since scripture indicates he died ( Deut. 34:7) and personally my view is that the verse Hebrews 9:27 that would indicate to me that Enoch is the second prophet.
Restoring all things in the middle of the Tribulation would tie in with Romans 14 in that "all Israel will be saved". ( Romans 11:26). In one sense it is hard to fathom the invincibility and power of the two prophets that end up being killed but makes sense in light of the claim of the Beast in Revelation 13; in that those who tormented the whole earth will be killed; and this will make Antichrist seem to be superior along with his apparent resurrection. I won't get further into that for now.
Matthew 16:27-28 seems to indicate the transfiguration; but full Preterists seem to think that means Christ would return by 70 AD and somehow is here physically but hidden in plain sight. Again I won't go in length on that but will say if He is here physically it makes His claims of returning as lightning from the east to the west ( Matt. 24:27) and Revelation 19 seem to be rather insignificant not to mention the control on the insanity in the world at present would be questionable.
His countenance as the sun reminds us of John's vision in Revelation 1. We can ponder on His humanity in verse 7 when He says do not be afraid. Again this revelation He wanted kept from public domain (verse 9). Nothing was to stop His upcoming death
Why should we follow Paul ? ? But what about following Jesus ? ?
All Twelve Disiples followed Jesus earthly ministry in the four gospels for the kingdom of heaven on earth.
Matthew 4:19
And he saith unto them,Followme, and I will make you fishers of men.
Mark 1:18
And straightway they forsook their nets, andfollowed him.
Luke 5:11
And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, andfollowed him.
John 1:37
And the two disciples heard him speak, and theyfollowed Jesus.
Why should we follow Apostle Paul ? ?
Jesus Christ in Heaven did say that Apostle Paul was a chosen vessel for the Gentiles.
Acts 9:15
But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is achosenvesselunto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
Jesus Christ is the author of the whole Bible.
Hebrews 12:2
Looking unto Jesus theauthorand finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Jesus Christ wants us to follow Apostle Paul's epistle for doctrine and Salvation.
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be yefollowers ofme, even as I also am of Christ.
Apostle Paul's doctrine is from Jesus Christ in Heaven.
Romans 16:17
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to thedoctrinewhich ye have learned; and avoid them.
Apostle Paul said that we can always learn from the Old Testament and the caring down kingdom of gospel in the four gospels. The death of Jesus Christ started the New Testament
Hebrews 9:16
For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of thetestator.
Romans 15:4
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for ourlearning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
I follow Apostle Paul's epistle in Jesus Christ for Doctrine and Salvation.
Your posts are helpful, I understand how long it would be on this site with 2000 characters to go verse by verse, but what you do should inspire us to study all the verses around what you post. The conscience: I understand what you are saying but I understand it a little differently. I understand our conscience which is sometimes called our heart, Proverbs 4:23, is a gift God gave us to help us overcome the curse that we received when Adam and Eve ate that fruit of the knowledge of good and evil.
The law and sacrifices could not cleanse our conscience, and we have been told to guard our conscience. When we repent and are born again our conscience is cleaned Hebrews 9:13-14, Hebrews 10:22 and when we slip, we are given confidence if we repent it is cleaned by the blood of Christ, 1 John 1:9. Our conscience and our mind are separate, Titus 1:15.
Our subconscious mind learns from experiences without us being aware of it. It processes information and makes connections effortlessly. We operate 80 to 90 percent with this part of our mind. This kind of learning affects our actions and choices without us consciously realizing it. My thoughts, this is the part of us that is attracted by the world, the part of our flesh that is tempted.
Our conscience can be weak and defiled 1 Corinthians 8:7 and seared like in 1 Timothy 4:1-2 and our minds can become so corrupt 2 Timothy 3:8, that God can turn us over to a reprobate mind Romans 1:28. I feel people can get to a point where their conscience is dead, and they live on the instinct of their subconscious mind for just survival in this earthly world. But there is always hope, I have seen where people have been restored and their conscience cleansed and made alive again, Jesus's blood can wash away all sins.
This is just me, but I believe our conscience is the spirit of man, Zechariah 12:11 Corinthians 2:11.
As S Spencer has said this is not about salvation, through Jesus we have the gift of eternal life. Please do not be confused, the truth is in the Scriptures with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Many are looking to be taken to heaven before the great tribulation of Satan, the beast, and the false prophet.
We all will be judged Acts 17:31Hebrews 9:272 Corinthians 5:10
There will be two resurrections; the first is when Jesus returns, after Satan, the beast, and the false prophet have their 3.5 years of tribulation, Revelation 13:1-5Matthew 24:29-312 Thessalonians 2:1-5.
When Jesus returns with His angels, the first resurrection, the battle of Armageddon, the beast and the false prophet are cast into the lake of fire, Satan is locked in the bottomless pit and Jesus will set up the kingdom, and those chosen, and faithful who are first resurrected will rule with Jesus, Revelation 16, 17, 18, 19. After the battle, in Revelation 20:5 we see Thrones and judgment is given to them who were in the first resurrection and given the honor to reign with Jesus during the 1000 years.
We see in Revelation 20:5-6 the rest of the dead lived not until after the 1000 years and the blessing on those who will be priests of God who will reign with Jesus in the millennium on earth, not heaven. There will be different rewards for the saved who will live in eternity with God and Jesus.
In Daniel 12:2-3 we see some will shine greater than others and also, we see those in this resurrection, there will be those who will awake to everlasting life, and some who will awake to everlasting contempt. We also see in John 5:28-29 and Matthew 25:31-46 what we see in the white throne judgment, Revelation 20:11-15 the rest of the dead, some will go into eternal life and some who are not found in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire.
There is much more to study, you should study for your conscience, we must not be deceived Matthew 24:4.
Many, many Scriptures repeat again and again that there is no salvation through human goodness.
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost."- Titus 3:5.
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."- Eph. 2:8,9.
"Without shedding of blood is no remission."- Hebrews 9:22.
"For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly."- Romans 5:6.
"All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."- Isa. 53:6.
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."- I Peter 1:18,19.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."- Rom. 6:23.
Dear sinner, remember that church membership will not save you. If you have been baptized, that cannot save you. Baptism does not save, does not keep anybody saved. It is only an act of duty for those who have already found Christ as their Saviour.
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?"- Romans 10:13,14.
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Do not have doubts, there are some things in Scripture we cannot come to a firm indisputable answer. Scripture does not contradict Scripture man does that. 1 Corinthians 15:22 For as in Adam all die, Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die. Then we have Hebrews 11:5 Enoch was translated that he should not see death. Then add John 3:13 no man hath ascended up to heaven, John 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father.
What is the answer? We must trust that the Holy Spirit will show us the truth we need and if we have doubts that will hinder the Holy Spirit. Can we come to an answer without any assumptions? In Hebrews 11:5 Enoch was translated, what is translated, the Greek word metatithemi means to transfer, to change, to fall away or desert from one person or thing to another.
Did God translate Enoch to heaven? Enoch should not see death; the Greek word here is Thanatos meaning a physical or spiritual death. So, did God take Enoch to heaven? Enoch was 65 years old when he had Methuselah, it says Enoch walked with God after he had Methuselah for 300 years. This could mean Enoch changed and his faith in God was strengthened and he was serving God and God saved him from spiritual death, not physical death. There are only two men before the flood who are said they walked with God, Enoch, and Noah.
We may not ever have all our questions answered there are things that God has yet to reveal. The main thing is not to have doubts, sometimes we can be so focused on an answer to something and be like a dog chasing its tail going round and round and just can't catch it. We can be distracted and not be focused on what God wants us to do at this time. I have done this in the past, just ease your thoughts on this and open your Bible to any random place and read and let God's word wash away any doubts you have. Lose the doubts and pick this up later it is not that important.
Thank you, brother, I know many have your understanding of this, and defining the difference between the soul and the spirit is difficult, in Scripture they seem to be interchangeable, at least it is for me. Salvation is not dependent on this, we know we are sealed and secure in Jesus regardless of what happens when we die.
In Genesis 2:7 Adam became a living being/soul the Hebrew word nephesh, in the New Testament it is the word psyche. My understanding this is who we are, our senses, desires, affections, appetites, intellect, and memories. The soul, who we are can be killed, Matthew 10:28. My understanding when we die is the soul/who we are, is asleep with our body in the grave, and is resurrected either to eternity with Jesus or is killed in the lake of fire.
Man cannot kill our soul all souls belong to God Ezekiel 18:4. God has offered a way of salvation for souls that are doomed to die, Hebrews 9:27. And we are told we can walk in the world or walk in the Spirit and Jesus told us the consequences, Matthew 16:26.
Spirit both the Hebrew word ruach and the Greek word pneuma translated as spirit have the concept of breath or wind at their roots. This part of us can be alive or dead Ephesians 2:4-5. The most enter part of us that connects or refuses to connect to God, like a radio receiver and it gives life to the body, Psalm 104:29James 2:26.
This is what returns to God when we die, there is no more communication our fate is set after we die our soul is asleep in death until we are resurrected, Daniel 12:2. I know you said you do not know Plato, Greek philosophy, many in those days were influenced, the spirit or soul is immortal and the descriptions of an underworld. I believe Jesus took parts of these fables and used them as subject matter in this parable.
My understanding the spirit does not have a body it gives life to the body, and we are resurrected and given an eternal spirit.
Hello Tdianne. As Jaz shared, purgatory is a teaching of the Roman Catholic Church, where the belief is, "All who die in God's grace, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven" (according to the RC Catechism). So, they believe there is a place of purification & refining 'just short of Heaven' for those Christians who have died still with sin stains & in need of cleansing to enter Heaven.
This belief primarily comes from the Apocryphal Book 2 Maccabees 12:38-45, where Judas Maccabeus, a Jew, went to bury those of his men fallen in battle. But he found idolatrous items under those men which he believed was the reason for their death. So prayer was made for them that their sin would be forgiven and also took up an offering (of money) to be sent to Jerusalem as a sin offering. Judas believed that by doing these things, these fallen sinful men of his company might have a better chance of eternal life. We have no way of confirming this account as it is never referred to in the Bible we have, but since this book (and others) are in the canon of RC Scriptures, they accept it.
This account then gives them the directive that prayer for the dead & making penance for their souls is necessary. But what is not taken into account, is that what Maccabeus did was not what was prescribed by the LORD & should be discarded. So, it is important that we stick very closely with the Bible we have & not resort to spurious material - and especially the apocryphal writings written by often unknown writers in those 400 silent years where no prophecy was given from the LORD.
Hebrews 9:27 clearly tells us that after death comes judgement & nothing in-between. That Christ fully paid the price for our sins & stands as our Mediator in Heaven if we sin & seek Him for forgiveness ( 1 Timothy 2:5) - we can do nothing now to help those who have died.
The first Adam, his disobedience brought sin and death into the world, Romans 5:12-19. The last Adam by obedience to God brought forgiveness and life, the resurrection from the dead, 1 Corinthians 15:21-22.
Adam and Eve were naked and were not ashamed, their hearts were uncorrupted and free from sin. After they ate the forbidden fruit their eyes were opened, their consciences were opened to the knowledge of good and evil, and sin replaced the purity they had. They had a sense of fear and disgrace due to their disobedience.
The shame they now felt was due to the sinful nature that entered them and now they no longer perfectly perceived things, their view of their nakedness should be covered. Nakedness was not a sin, but a fallen perception of nakedness brought shame and sorrow they now felt.
As God covered Adam and Eve with coats of skins to cover their shame/nakedness. Our nakedness of shame can be covered with the garment Isaiah 61:10 given by Jesus. We in Jesus shall not be found naked, but clothed, with the garment of Christ's righteousness, our sins covered and cleansed by the blood of Jesus that makes it spotless and white as long as we continue in faith and overcome.
Concerning those that do not die in the Lord, that do not watch, and keep their garments will walk naked, their sins will be open to being seen, Revelation 16:151 Timothy 4:1-2Revelation 20:15.
Every human being, whether they're saved or unsaved, and regardless of their culture, ethnicity, or background, has a conscience, Romans 2:14-15. Inside this conscience is the battle between the flesh and the Spirit Romans 9:1 we can repent and be covered, if not we will be naked and found guilty. We cannot hide what is in our conscience, it records every good and evil we have ever done or thought. I feel this is where we are naked or clothed. Romans 4:6-82 Corinthians 1:121 Timothy 1:19Hebrews 9:9Hebrews 13:181 Peter 3:21.
I also do agree that Christ was impeccable. I believe Scripture does agree also as in,
Hebrews 2:14
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;"
Hebrews 2:18
"For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted."
Philippians 2:7
"But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:"
TEMPT'ED, participle passive Enticed to evil; provoked; tried.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin."
1 John 3:5, KJV
Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:"
1 Peter 2:22, KJV
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
Hebrews 9:28, KJV
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin."
Hebrews 4:15, KJV
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV
I understand why some look at this differently, but I do feel if He could sin How could He be GOD ALMIGHTY? God cannot sin, has no part with sin... Tempts no man to sin. I do agree with you Brother so I hope I'm not coming off as I do not. Have a good day God Bless...
Scripture tells us Jesus returns only one time, Zachariah 14:4 Matthew 24:30Acts 1:111 Thessalonians 4:16-17Hebrews 9:28Rev. 1:7Rev. 6:15-16. When Jesus returns those who are chosen and faithful are resurrected to reign on earth with Jesus, Rev. 17:14Daniel 2:44Daniel 7:26-272 Timothy 2:12Rev. 5:10Rev. 11:15.
This reign on earth begins after the tribulation and the armies of Satan, the beast, the false prophet, and the ten kings/countries of the beast who destroy mystery Babylon come to battle Jesus in the battle of Armageddon, Zachariah 14:1-3 Ezekiel 39:17-22Rev. 19:17-19Rev. 16:13-16. In Rev. 20 we see Satan bound and sealed in the bottomless pit for 1000 years. Jesus then sets up the Kingdom on earth and we see the judgment of those in the first resurrection who will be reigning with Jesus on earth for 1000 years Rev. 20:4-6.
The 1000-year Kingdom will be on the earth, but it will be very different from the world today without the temptation of Satan, Isaiah 65:25Zechariah 14:16 It will be a time when Lord Jesus and those chosen to rule the nations with an iron rod so that all the promises of God be fulfilled, all the boundaries of land God promised Abraham have never been, Genesis 15:18-20Numbers 34:1-12 but they will in the future.
We know from Rev. 20:7-10, that there will be nations after the 1000 years that Satan will go out to deceive and bring them together to battle. After this battle, a fire burns up the earth and Satan is cast into the lake of fire, "the earth and the heaven fled away" The final Judgment of the white throne is not just for the lost, and all in this judgment who is not found in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire, Rev. 20:11-15, Daniel 12:2Matthew 25:32-46John 5:28-29.
Daniel 9:24-27, in this prophecy, there are seventy weeks or 490 years determined unto Daniel's people and the holy city to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Have these 6 things been fulfilled in Jesus the Messiah, and the judgment of it carried out in 70 AD? If so, all of this prophecy has been fulfilled in the past.
1 To finish the transgression. To break or violate, as a law, civil or moral; the act of transgressing. Psalms 32:1Isaiah 53:5-11Romans 4:14-15Galatians 3:18-19Hebrews 9:14-15.
2 To make an end to sins. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Matthew 1:21Hebrews 10:8-11John 1:291 Corinthians 15:31 John 3:5Psalm 32:1Romans 3:21-26Romans 8:3.
3 To make reconciliation for iniquity. Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement. Colossians 1:20-22Isaiah 53:6Isaiah 53:11Romans 5:11Ephesians 2:16Titus 2:142 Corinthians 5:18-19.
4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. In conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will. Isaiah 61:10-11Romans 3:21-26Romans 5:17-212 Corinthians 5:211 Peter 2:24.
5 To seal up the vision and prophecy. The greatest prediction, which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus. Daniel 9:23Matthew 11:11-15Mark 1:14-15John 5:36-40John 6:27Acts 3:18.
6 To anoint the most holy. The high priest went into the holy of holies once a year with the blood of a sacrificed bull. Jesus our high priest with His own blood anointed the most holy not made with hands once and for all, forever. Hebrews 9:6-14.
Completing my example 1 of prayer for someone to be saved; as I repeatedly nag it isn't something we find in scripture. Paul when on trial went as close as saying he wished to see someone saved ( Acts 26:28 with Agrippa). Just as we once were before the light broke through we were once blinded to the truth; and therefore shouldn't expect any efforts no matter how sincere or even faith filled will make one iota of difference in bringing someone to salvation. That is a really harsh statement at face value.
We know for a fact it won't work with someone already physically deceased; and of course that would be a sin or necromancy and useless according to Hebrews 9:27. But we were once "dead in sin" ( Ephesians 2:13). It is easy as a true believer to be perplexed how people can have multiple and long term opportunities to hear the Gospel and still reject it. What is worse is those who go along and perhaps make a confession but are insincere in their hearts; thus never producing "good fruit". We know that if we hear the truth it is of God as our spirit testifies with His Spirit that we are children of God. ( Romans 8:16).
The rest of the world is content that Christ is a good teacher or Prophet as that is all they can see; His humanity apart from Divinity as a member of the Godhead.
I will leave this topic with a general statement. We should sow seeds with whoever we can; but not make an undo effort to spend an inordinate amount of time with those not open to the Gospel at the expense of the Great Commission at large.
As Jesus stated in comparison to our service to God we must hate those closest to us; which doesn't mean of course to abandon care as that makes us worse than an infidel. Our motivation for service must be to serve God always; and that has to be despite whether all those we care about come to Christ or not.
A long respont, isn't it? Have a blessed week.
God bless,
RLW
Hebrews 2:14 reads "Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
Listen to Jesus in John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
I hope this helps
See part 2.
Amen Brother Chris.
The new covenant is an everlasting covenant.
Blessings.
I like to look at it this way.
The penalty is death.
Hebrews 9:22
Romans 6:23
The penalty wasn't forgiven it was pay for. Mark 10:45.
Also.
Romans 5:8-10 reads "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
When we recieved Christ as savior we were baptized into his death and justified by the resurrection of Christ.
Blessings.
Thanks and God bless.
Part 1

To Page 2.

God bless,

Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
I hope you don't mind brother.
This is just me, but I believe our conscience is the spirit of man, Zechariah 12:1 1 Corinthians 2:11.
Keep up the good work and God bless,
RLW
As S Spencer has said this is not about salvation, through Jesus we have the gift of eternal life. Please do not be confused, the truth is in the Scriptures with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Many are looking to be taken to heaven before the great tribulation of Satan, the beast, and the false prophet.
We all will be judged Acts 17:31 Hebrews 9:27 2 Corinthians 5:10
There will be two resurrections; the first is when Jesus returns, after Satan, the beast, and the false prophet have their 3.5 years of tribulation, Revelation 13:1-5 Matthew 24:29-31 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5.
God bless,

COME LORD JESUS
God bless,
RLW
The most enter part of us that connects or refuses to connect to God, like a radio receiver and it gives life to the body, Psalm 104:29 James 2:26.
Thanks again, God bless,
RLW
Concerning those that do not die in the Lord, that do not watch, and keep their garments will walk naked, their sins will be open to being seen, Revelation 16:15 1 Timothy 4:1-2 Revelation 20:15.
Romans 4:6-8 2 Corinthians 1:12 1 Timothy 1:19 Hebrews 9:9 Hebrews 13:18 1 Peter 3:21.

1 Peter 2:22, KJV

2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV
I understand why some look at this differently, but I do feel if He could sin How could He be GOD ALMIGHTY? God cannot sin, has no part with sin... Tempts no man to sin. I do agree with you Brother so I hope I'm not coming off as I do not. Have a good day God Bless...
Scripture tells us Jesus returns only one time, Zachariah 14:4 Matthew 24:30 Acts 1:11 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 Hebrews 9:28 Rev. 1:7 Rev. 6:15-16. When Jesus returns those who are chosen and faithful are resurrected to reign on earth with Jesus, Rev. 17:14 Daniel 2:44 Daniel 7:26-27 2 Timothy 2:12 Rev. 5:10 Rev. 11:15.
This reign on earth begins after the tribulation and the armies of Satan, the beast, the false prophet, and the ten kings/countries of the beast who destroy mystery Babylon come to battle Jesus in the battle of Armageddon, Zachariah 14:1-3 Ezekiel 39:17-22 Rev. 19:17-19 Rev. 16:13-16. In Rev. 20 we see Satan bound and sealed in the bottomless pit for 1000 years. Jesus then sets up the Kingdom on earth and we see the judgment of those in the first resurrection who will be reigning with Jesus on earth for 1000 years Rev. 20:4-6.
The 1000-year Kingdom will be on the earth, but it will be very different from the world today without the temptation of Satan, Isaiah 65:25 Zechariah 14:16 It will be a time when Lord Jesus and those chosen to rule the nations with an iron rod so that all the promises of God be fulfilled, all the boundaries of land God promised Abraham have never been, Genesis 15:18-20 Numbers 34:1-12 but they will in the future.
20:11-15, Daniel 12:2 Matthew 25:32-46 John 5:28-29.

Hey brother just one last thing to consider.
Psalms 32:1 Isaiah 53:5-11 Romans 4:14-15 Galatians 3:18-19 Hebrews 9:14-15.
2 To make an end to sins. Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Matthew 1:21 Hebrews 10:8-11 John 1:29 1 Corinthians 15:3 1 John 3:5 Psalm 32:1 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 8:3.
3 To make reconciliation for iniquity. Reconciliation is an element of salvation that refers to the results of the atonement. Colossians 1:20-22 Isaiah 53:6 Isaiah 53:11 Romans 5:11 Ephesians 2:16 Titus 2:14 2 Corinthians 5:18-19.
4 To bring in everlasting righteousness. In conformity to the demands of the covenant and according to God's will. Isaiah 61:10-11 Romans 3:21-26 Romans 5:17-21 2 Corinthians 5:21 1 Peter 2:24.
5 To seal up the vision and prophecy. The greatest prediction, which runs like a golden thread through the whole contents of the Old Testament, is that regarding the coming and work of the Messiah, Jesus. Daniel 9:23 Matthew 11:11-15 Mark 1:14-15 John 5:36-40 John 6:27 Acts 3:18.
6 To anoint the most holy. The high priest went into the holy of holies once a year with the blood of a sacrificed bull. Jesus our high priest with His own blood anointed the most holy not made with hands once and for all, forever. Hebrews 9:6-14.
Jesus said it in John 19:28-30.
