Bible Discussion Thread

I received a comment in my last series of postings which seems to indicate the theories and such I have been presenting may have worn out their welcome as it were to understanding specifically the subject of seeming contradictions and vicissitudes within the Godhead. Given there is no further interest or response to that subject I will not continue to pursue scriptures in regard to that subject in particular.

I thought instead I would turn to another subject perhaps tangentially related to this; and that is prayer. I have covered in detail how to pray and scripture basically makes it clear to be certain that we haven't harbored ill will toward others; that we aren't praying for our own desires at the exclusion of truly seeking God's will and that to the best we can we pray according to God's will as to general scriptural precedent and the direction our individual lives seem to be according to His will regarding our gifts; calling and circumstances.

Overall; of course I agree that we can't possibly fathom God in terms of His attributes or what He's about to do short term. In general; we CAN hold to what the scriptures state are eternal truths; so we know for instance NOT to pray for someone once they have passed from this world (viewing Hebrews 9:27 as one key text; and verses in the O.T. warning against necromancy).

The Great Commission is a start as to the focus where we should be centered; and that of course would cover evangelism to the lost as well as discipleship of new believers. That second category no doubt is the weaker link as it were; we only need to listen to sermons to see this. We therefore should heed to Christ's example; as He spent generous amounts of time in prayer particularly at night and focused attention on His Disciples along with the time preaching to the crowds which of course at times intersected the former. The concept of fasting and prayer supplemented with a fast of sleep (sometimes all night prayer) are all factors.
