Second part: “let not the sun go down upon your wrath” refers to; as we realize we have sinned and are “angry” at our lack of self control, we need to ask God for forgiveness and be at peace with it. “let not the sun go down upon your wrath” It is important the moment we realize we have sinned that we ask God for forgiveness and not put it off for another time.
A popular conception of the Devil originated during the middle ages as a red demon with a pitch fork, cloven footed and horned. But this is not at all the Bible description. The Bible says “that Satan himself is transformed as an angel of light.” 2 Corinthians 11:14.
The Devil will never walk up to you and say Hi I am the Devil. I am out to destroy you. He does it in a more settle way. He does not throw spears, he throws darts. Takes you a while to realize that you have been hit.
He causes us to walk in darkness, and we don’t even know it. He does not turn off all the lights at first.
What we must not loose sight of is that Satan although a fallen angel is still an angel, a rebel angel. Satan’s fall did not deprive him of his angel nature, or his original beauty, only his character changed.
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”
The silliness of this world some people are continually laughing and treating everything as a comedy, as though they are drunk on silliness.
Of course the wages of sin is death ( Romans 6 :23), and that death is not always capital punishment as it is carried out with man’s justice. But also and mainly (in this section), it means separation from God.
Just like Adam and Eve ate the fruit, and that same day both died, but not physically.
It’s spiritual death. Like we find it in 1 Timothy 5:6 “But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth”.
Yes, we as Christians ought to stoop down to them to finally lift them, but while doing that, we have to keep the demarcation lines clear and distinct, just like Jude 1:23 says “And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh”.
No complacency at all, “but speaking the truth in love”, Ephesians 4:15.
God bless you.
We should always examine ourselves ( 2 Corinthians 13:5; 1 Corinthians 11:31, 32), according to the scriptures, in order to find out how we measure up in God’s eyes. To be careful about making blanket statements about what we think on how God views us. It is a known fact that most humans see themselves as better than they really are. The measuring standard is Jesus Christ ( Ephesians 4:13). This is why we must be born again in Christ Jesus and grow in the grace and knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ ( 2 Peter 3:18).
About verse 18- when Jesus states that upon this rock I will build my church. Jesus is making a direct reference to himself as the rock using 3rd person singular. Christ is the head of the church Ephesians 5:23, I Corinthians 10:4. That's why the church is also called the body of Christ, Ephesians 4:12-16. As for Peter being the 1st Pope or holy father, Matthew 23:9 states to call no man on earth your (spiritual) farther, for one is your (spiritual) father in heaven. That church is building on the rock of Peter is in serious trouble when Jesus states 4 verses later that Peter is become like Satan momentarily (verse 23) and Peter is married. Matthew 8:14 which makes me ask the question why priests, bishops, cardinals and popes do not marry? I Timothy 3:2 states that a bishop (Pastor, Deacon) to be the husband of one wife which is where one would find the criteria of a bishop, deacon.
