    @Stephen B.
Baptized means immersion in water. The water represents the grave (being buried) and coming out of the water (resurrection). If you have truly and fully repented (turned away from your sinful ways), the blood is applied to wash away your (previous) sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This does not forgive you for any sins committed after that. You are forgiven for them by dying daily (repenting). Jesus (God manifested in the flesh) had the power to forgive the thief and promise him salvation. At the time the thief died on the cross, the Holy Ghost had not yet been given. There are many examples of people in the Old Testament that went to Heaven without baptism because they were accepted by the Father. Water baptism by John was "unto repentance". After Jesus has been resurrected and overcame death, hell and the grave, his followers were to go and await The Comforter (the Holy Ghost). That is what they received on the day of Pentecost (that doesn't mean it was only one day, as witnessed by the rest of the New Testament). Mary, the mother of Jesus was one of those who received the Holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost. People who pray to Mary are actually disobeying God's Word, as she was just a human as the rest of us.

I have been baptized in God’s wonderful name Jesus in water and received the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues. It’s still alive today. Praise God!!!
  • Stephen belding on Acts 2:38 - 13 years ago
Peter is talking about being baptized in the name of Jesus - not being baptized with water - especially when 3 thousand got saved on the day of Pentecost. There is no mention of water only being filled with the Holy Ghost. However if one were to listen to Jesus on the cross when he said to the thief that accepted Jesus as savior - this thief was not baptized but was told by Jesus that - you shalt be with me in paradise. The thief died on the cross - so he couldn't have been baptized - right...

I believe, the Holy Ghost truly came live that day. I would that I could have heard Peter preach that day. That was great message! The Holy Ghost is so real. Thank Him for being in control of my life.

Jesus said in these verse! Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus did not mention NAMES but name (SINGULAR) (Proper Noun) Father, Son and Holy Spirit is NOT A NAME they are ALL TITLES! It is the name of God (JESUS CHRIST) that we should be baptize and not the TITLE for there is ONLY ONE GOD ( Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 John 5:20; Isaiah 43:10) Jehovah is Jehovah Saviour Jesus Christ revealed in the New Testament that is why there is NOT without this the plan will not be fulfilled, ( Gal 4:3-4) Fullness of time has come God sent forth his Son born of a woman ( Isaiah 7:14) God will give you a "SIGN" ( Isaiah 9:6) This boy will be given a name Emmanuel ( Matthew 1:20-23) That it is the Angel Gabriel who gave the name of this child and his name is Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins. That is why there is power in his name! Jesus will SET YOU FREE ( John 8:32) for Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father except through ME (Jesus). Because BAPTISM refers to REMISSION OF SINS, without baptism our SINS are not forgiven and our soul is destined to hell, that is why He said in Romans 6:23: ‘’For the wages of Sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ’’. This is God's Plan of salvation. The offering of Bulls and animals is not good in the sight of God that is why He sent his Son born of a woman to redeem those who are under the law ( Galatians 4:3-4). And God is Spirit ( John 4:24), He came into world as a sinful flesh to die on the cross for our sins. That is why that in the name of Jesus there is Remission of Sins ( Acts 2:38); In the name of Jesus there is salvation ( Acts 4:12); in the name of Jesus there is healing. In other words without this process our soul will not be saved. Our faith must have WORKS ( James 2:24) God bless you all.

GOD’S WORD SAYS THAT IN THE MOUTH OF 2 OR 3 WITNESSES EVERY WORD WILL BE ESTABLISHED. SO IN LIGHT OF THAT I WILL SHARE A FEW TRUTHS ON GOD’S PLAN OF SALVATION. IN ACTS 2:38 SEE THE ANSWER HE GAVE WHEN ASKED ‘’MEN AND BRETHERN WHAT SHALL WE DO?’’ PETER ANSWERED IN VERSE 38...REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS, AND YE SHALL RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. WE FIND THAT THIS IS WITNESSED IN ACTS 10:34-48. AND ALSO IN ACTS 19 :1-7. MAY GOD OPEN EVERY EYE AND HEART TO THIS TRUTH. YOU WILL NOT FIND ONE WITNES TO BAPTISM USING THE WORDS FATHER, SON OR HOLY GHOST, BECAUSE FATHER IS NOT A NAME, SON IS NOT A NAME AND HOLY GHOST IS NOT A NAME,JESUS IS HIS NAME...

Oh, what a terrible time for sinners when the wrath of God is poured out. Let us who are of the day be sober and alert. Sinners, there is still time to repent and be baptized the name of Jesus Christ for the remisson of sins and to receive the infilling of Jesus' Spirit. Read Acts 2:37,38

John 3:1-8 Jesus tells Nicodemus that he must be born of water and the spirit otherwise he will not see the kingdom of God even from afar off! So we come to Acts 2 - Repent, be baptized and you SHALL receive the Holy Spirit! Unfortunately most churches, nominal and even most Pentecostal, do not accept that speaking in tongues is the only sign that you have received the Holy Spirit! Jesus wouldn't make that statement to Nicodemus about the need to be born again without there being some tangible evidence of that event - He wouldn't leave us floundering as to whether or not we are born again - hence the accompanying sign should be! In Acts 10: Cornelius prayed often and gave alms to the poor but was instructed by the angel to go to Joppa where Peter would tell him what he needed to do further - receive the Holy Spirit - and in Acts 11 Peter tells the rest of the apostles that they received the HOLY SPIRIT "as we did at the beginning!"

"Forgiveness from “sins” is a free gift based on a condition. ( Acts 2:38) The condition for forgiveness is baptism in water."

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise. ( Luke 23:43)

    W G F's comment about verse 9 on 3/23/2011, 3:35am..
    1) Forgiveness of “sins” is a free gift based on baptism in water after ‘repentance of ‘sin. ( Acts 2:38) “repent and be baptized are ‘ conditions. Forgiveness and the gift of the Holy Spirit are ‘gifts. (see John 5:24) Eternal life is based on repentance from nonbelief to belief.
    2) Scripture ‘DOES not say repent from ‘sins, but repent from sin. (see John 16:8a,9)

    Themba's comment about verse 10 on 3/24/2011, 11:26am...
Believers are not under the law, and they cannot commit sins.
    (Rom.5:13) (Rom.6:14) Believers CAN NOT SIN ( 1 John 3:9)
It is not sin, it is ‘spiritual adultery. (Rom.7:1-5, 1 Cor.6:15-20)

    Moses's comment about verse 9 on 7/09/2011, 9:22am...

Christ DID NOT forgive ‘sin ( John 16:8a,9) Sin is repented from.
He freely forgives ‘sins. ( Acts 2:38) after repentance and baptism.

    In response to : Timothy Wayne George's comment on 2/04/2012, 9:46am 1 John 1
    1) We do not have a relationship “with Christ but “in” Christ. ( John 14:20) (1 Cor.1:30)
    2) We as human beings can never be holy, and Scripture does not ask us to. Scripture says we are holy “in” Christ. (1 Cor.1:30) I “in” Christ, before God, Christ “in” me, before the world. ( John 14:20)
    3) Scripture NEVER claims the Holy Spirit ‘convicts” believers of SIN! John 16:8a, KJV is a mis-translation. Convict is not the proper word here, perhaps ‘confute is.(it DOES NOT SAY SINS.” This Scripture says “the world” not believers.
    4) Forgiveness from “sins” is a free gift based on a condition. ( Acts 2:38) The condition for forgiveness is baptism in water. V.38 also states that eternal life is for believing in Christ. (The ‘un-belief is ‘repented from) ‘ the condition) ( Acts 2:38)
EG: Repent AND be Baptized for the forgiveness of “sins” and you shall receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit. The first two are conditions, the second two are gifts..
Note: (baptism DOES NOT and CANNOT cleanse from sins, it is a symbol of such cleansing)
    5) Believers cannot sin (un-belief) ( John 16:9) and believers ARE NOT UNDER the Law (Rom.6:14) so they cannot commit “sins”
    6) The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses the new believers “sins” (repentance is from sin to belief)
Note: One IS NOT a ‘sinner because they commit sins. One is a “sinner” because of Adam. (Rom.5:12) so one commits sins because they are a ‘sinner.
    7) When Believers fail, it is S/spiritual adultery.(1 Cor.6:15-20) (Rom.7:1-4)
Note: 1 Cor.6.18 all sin (sins) is outside the body (covered by and under the blood) EXCEPT Sexual sin (spiritual adultery) is against (inside) the body and must be stopped!
Note. S/spiritual adultery does not come under the blood, IT MUST BE STOPPED!

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

There's only ONE saving NAME !! And that is Jesus!

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Ephesians 4:5 ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BAPTISM !
VERSE 6 - ONE GOD AND FATHER OF ALL,

    John 1:1-14 ~~ 1 Timothy 3:16

God was manifest in the flesh !!

Their is only ONE saving name and when Jesus told the disciples to teach ALL nations baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: -20- Teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you.

In Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
    And now into verse 38-39

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Let us look again at what Jesus says.

Verse 18: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus says, "ALL POWER is given unto ME in heaven and in earth. In verse 19 He says "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME" . *Not names* ..

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a CHILD is born, unto us a SON is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The MIGHTY GOD, The EVERLASTING FATHER, The Prince of Peace.

    Jesus says in Revelation 1:8

8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the ALMIGHTY.

Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the FIRST, and I am the LAST; AND BESIDE ME THERE IS NO GOD.

    Jesus says in Revelation 1:11

1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the FIRST and the LAST:

    1 Timothy 3:16
3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Jesus says in Luke 24:47 And that REPENTANCE and REMISSION OF SINS should be preached in HIS NAME AMONG ALL NATIONS, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

49 And, behold, I SEND THE PROMISE OF MY FATHER UPON YOU: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.

As we go into the book of Acts we find almost immediately the promise being fulfilled. And let me clear this scripture up.

Ephesians 4:5 ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism,

6 ONE God and Father of ALL,

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

John 1:14 And the Word was made FLESH, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is PREFERRED BEFORE ME: for HE WAS BEFORE ME.

    Now back to Acts 1:5

Jesus says in Vs. 5 : For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost NOT MANY DAYS HENCE.

Acts 2:1 1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Read the rest of chapter 2 and how men mocked and said " these men are full of new whine" but Peter stood up with the eleven.

Acts 2:13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

After you read through to vs 37 says the men were pricked in there hearts and asked what shall they do?!

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Peter tells them what Jesus told him to preach unto ALL nations.

Luke 24:47 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

AMEN. THAT SUMS IT ALL UP. TRUE REPENTANCE AND ACCEPTING CHRIST SACRIFICIAL LOVE ON CALVARY IS WHAT'S REQUIRED. PAUL SAYS LET EVERY MEN BE WRONG AND GOD'S WORD BE RIGHT. What is His Name and what is His son's Name if thou can'st tell. The Name of Jesus was kept secret til the angel revealed it. We are told He received His excellent Name by inheritance. He said I am come in my Father's Name. He said, Before Abrahamn was, I AM. I submit to you that the Name of the Father and Son are the same and that Name is Jesus!!!!! It is the only Name given whereby ye must be saved. Hear O Israel the Lord thy God is ONE Lord. Great is the mystery of Godliness. Acts 2: 37, 38 Obey.

What does the word perfect mean in scripture? But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.( James 1:25). Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." ( Matthew 19:21) Does the perfect here means something different than the perfect used in 1st Corinthians 13:10? What is the perfect law of liberty? What was Jesus referencing when he told the rich young ruler if thou would be perfect go sell all that you have and come follow me. Could perfect mean complete? I'm just saying! Sometimes we make things more difficult than they should be! My feeling or my opinion is fruitless when it comes to the word of God. Solomon said in Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." In Matthew 7:24 Jesus said these words "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock." The Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 5:8-9 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

Hear ( Mt 7:24), believe ( Jn 8:24) repent ( Lk 13:3,5) confess ( Acts 8:37) and be baptized for the remission of your sins, ( Acts 2:38, 8:12, acts 22:16)

Because this is the name of the One True God and Saviour ( 1 John 5:20) which the Bible tells. Without accepting Jesus Christ as your Saviour and without obedience to His word we will not be saved. Even though we have faith in Jesus but without obedience thru baptism in the name of Jesus we will be condemned. ( Acts 2:38-29)

    Godbless you all

My comment is to Matthew who witnessed it is first time reading the Bible. You are correct, Matthew, the word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than a two edge sword. We must believe the gospel, which is the death, burial, and ressurection of Jesus Christ. When we believe this instruction is given us in Acts 2:37,38 to repent, be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ for the remisson of sins and we shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. May you be filled with God's Spirit!

We are not saying women are not doing a good job or not gifted but there is the commandment of God to be followed. Paul clearly says in 1Corinthians 14:37 if any man thinks himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. Now he was speaking the word to people with various gifts of the Holy spirit. Jesus says in Mathew 7:21-22: not everyone that says unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven: but he that doeth the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name cast out devils? And in thy name many wonderful works? And I will profess unto them, I never knew you depart from, ye that work iniquity. Yes they can do mighty works in His name but if is not at his command it is all in vain. His will is His command. In 2John 1:9 it says: Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath no God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the father and the son. The doctrine of Christ did not place women preachers in the church. Where did these women preachers originate from? In Mathew 16:6b- take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. In Mathew 16:12 the disciples understood he was not speaking of leaven of bread but leaven of doctrine of Pharisees? What was wrong with the doctrine of Pharisees? Here it is: Mathew 15:9 - But in vain do they worship me teaching for doctrine the commandments of men. In Mathew 15:3 they transgressed the commandment of God by their traditions, of their elders. The Apostles doctrine ( Acts 2:42) was the doctrine of Christ. Jesus says in John 17:16-17 - my doctrine is not mine but his that sent me. If any man do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God or whether I speak of myself. The doctrine of Christ did not place women preachers, but doctrines of pharisees and saducees. In Mathew 23:29- 37 He called them serpents, brood of vipers. Adressing the serpents Jesus said you killed the righteous, shed their blood, from the blood of righteous able. These scripture clearly say Cain was a serpent. The original serpent gave Eve leaven of false doctrine and slew her by it, she became a transgressor. John the Baptist calls these serpents brood of vipers. In Mathew 23:15 they are called children of hell. The serpent convinced Eve to transgress the clear cut command of God by giving it a false interpretation. He deceives the fallen church the same way today. We are here looking at the scripture comparing spiritual things with spiritual, scripture with scripture and by the Holy Ghost, for scripture interprets scripture and was given by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost for correction and reproof. Jesus warns us in Mathew 7:13- enter ye in the straight gate: for wide is the gate and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life. The doctrine of the Apostolic Fathers that begat us by the gospel is of the Holy Ghost and cannot be added to or subtracted from. In I Corinthianthians 4:15 Paul says, though ye have ten thound instructors in Christ, ye have not many fathers: for in Christ I have begotten you throught the gospel. In 1timothy 2, it speaks of women to adorn themselves in modest apparel. It is unbecoming for Christian women to dress like the world, to walk naked and to put garments that pertain to men. Deutronomy 22:5 says the woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a womans garment: for ALL THAT DO SO ARE AN ABOMINATION UNTO THE LORD THY GOD. That settles it.

In Luke 24:45-49 Jesus reminded his disciples of what is written of him concerning his suffering, death and ressurection; that repentance and remission of sins would be preached in his name beginning from Jerusalem. They were to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Ghost to come upon them in order to witness the word ( Acts 1:7-8). Before his crucifiction Jesus had told his disciples that it was not them that would speak but the Holy Ghost ( Mark 13:11). They were to preach the the Gospel with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven ( 1 Peter 1:12). On the day of pentecost they heard the infallible Holy Ghost speak through the mouth of Peter ( Acts 2:33). In Acts 10:44 it says to him give all prophets witness that through his name whosover believers shall receive remission of sins. On this day of pentecost, after death burial, ressurection and ascension of Jesus, the Holy Ghost witnessed, beginning from Jerusalem, commanding the people to repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins and they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit ( Acts 2:38). God is His own interprater, interpreting the Name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost; for he says in Zechariah 14:9 : And the Lord shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord and his name one. Thomas called him My Lord and my God ( John 20:28). On this day of Pentecost the Holy Ghost bore witness of His Holy child whom He annointed( Mathew 1:18, Acts 4: 27). Who can add or subtract from what God had began? What He began in the day of pentectost and Jerusalem restores in the Last days: Baptism in the Name of Jesus Christ for remission of Sin. The Holy Ghost Church will stay with the command of the Holy Ghost for they know the Apostles were sent the Holy Ghost (13:4) and spake these words at His command.

That's right Jeff! Revelation 1:8 says - I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the *Almighty*. Jesus spake this.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. -v,14- And *the Word was made flesh*, and dwelt among us*, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Whoever you are ~ 123 ~ let me give you some knowledge. John 3:16 says For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him *SHOULD* not perish, but have everlasting life.

It does NOT say that you SHALL be saved! I bought an ozarka water the other day and it said on the back of it, " this item SHOULD not be sold individually." well i bought it by its self. So, maybe it wasn't meant to be sold individually but it was. Same goes with the scripture. Yeah if you believe that Jesus is god and you believe this,

Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, -6- One God and Father of all,

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we MUST be saved.

If you think there is three gods you are sorely mistaken. There's not two nor five. Only ONE !

Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Isaiah 44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

    My thoughts are as follows:
The manifestation of God differs from place to place, and generation to generation. Elijah, for example heard a still small voice. However, before the still small voice was a strong wind, followed by earthquake, and fire ( 1Kings 19). The Lord was not in the "strong wind" of Elijah, but in the wind of Acts 2:2. This tells us to be discerning that God chooses how He manifests Himself.
