Hi Dawn - the greatest commandment is: Love God above all, love thy neighbor as thyself. Following God requires love of Him first, and following His ways.

Paul here is talking about the Ministers referring them as Rulers over the church. God was warning the church to obey the powers they Ministers are operating, it will be damnation to you when you disobey the power of God.

The law is the 10 commandments and it shows what God requires of us to be obedient to Him. 1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin also transgresseth the law for sin is the transgression of the law. John 15:12 If ye love me keep my commandments. Romans 13:10 Love is the fulfilling of the law. 1st 4 commandments are about loving God last 6 commandments are about loving one another. Read Matt.22:36-40

These gods you trust will flee. For it is written, And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

All That is Listed is of God. Whosoever Resisteth The Powers that are Ordained of God, Shall Receive to Themselves Damnation. For Rulers are Not a Terror to Good Works but to The Evil( Romans 13:1-14) Put Them in Mind to be Subject to Principalities and Powers to Obey Magistrates, Speak Evil of No Man, For You were Sometimes Foolish and Disobedient etc. ( Titus 3:1-15) Christ Died For Your Sins

All things you list are temporal, carnal, devised by men of the world; and cannot pluck from the hand of my Holy Father. Wisdom is to fear God, not man: but ye wicked attempt to prolong with fear. But now ye, having killed Christ, are afraid putting forth vanities for shew. For this very cause it is written, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

Those Verses are Used. We all Need Law Enforcement,The Courts, Jails, Prisons, The Gallows. We Need to Pay Our Taxes to Keep Things Running. Man, being mostly cowards, will usually take this chapter as obeying all authority whether it is evil or not. If you are honest, that's what most of you have seen. Why doesn't anyone ever quote verse three? "For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:"

Verse 14~We must put on Jesus Christ like we would a garment. We do this by putting on the true Christian personality and following closely his example.

We see in Romans 13 that God has placed those in authority for His reasons. We are so blessed here in America that whether we agree or not, we can still express our opinions...peacefully. We are to get along with our neighbors and help when possible.,The night is far spent, we will see Jesus soon. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

Eternal truths- Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Romans 13:4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. If we speak the truth about the Word and someone bring evil to us, God have mercy on them. Hebrews 4:12 THE WORD OF GOD

Lu2677; This is a VERY important subject so applicable for us today. Many are turned aside from the commandments of the Saviour by hearkening to voices in the world, which say we must stand and fight for our rights. With respect to the Military and the Police, that's there job by God's appointment. But for us as individuals, we follow Jesus' example of love, piety, faith and meekness toward all.

Roman 13:1 "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers (government). For there are no powers but of God,(our government is put in place by God). The powers that be, are ordained by God." This chapter is telling us to give honor, give tribute, love, submit, owe nothing to government officials. Regardless of what they do. His word stands!

Also in 1John 3:14 Jesus says We know that we have pass from death to life, because we love the brethren.
He that love not his brother abide in death.
And in 1 John3:3 says every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Luke 6:46 says, Why call me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things I say?

we are to love all, even thy enemy as he says in matthew 5:43-48 and in luke 6:27 -36 if our Lord did then so should we and pray for them, those that walk in sinful ways pray for them, you cant be consumed with hatred and live in the light of the Lord, you cant live praising yourself as well for good things you do, you must be humble, walk in faith, except Christ as your savior , repent your sins
  • Terry on Romans 13 - 9 years ago
If you depend on just verse 9, you depend on works. One must take in the whole counsel of God! It starts with Faith, then comes the works compelled by the Holy Spirit. I.E, What is faith without works? - James I believe.
All the commandments hinge on Love God first, Neighbor next. The rest will fall in place with a progressing relationship through prayer and study.

    Hi Maria

Answer to your question loving people does not mean you are saved. When you confess with your mouth that Jesus christ is your Lord and Saviour and make Him boss of your life than only you are saved.

Loving every body is good but love is empowered by God, so love God first and He will empower you to love everybody and therefore you will be fulfilling the most important aspect of Christianity (LOVE) Luke 10:27, Galatians 5:14
  • Rudy on Romans 13 - 9 years ago
We love only what Jesus loves and hate what Jesus hates. If we love what Jesus loves we have no problem because that is what we are supposed to do as Jesus lovers. But if we love what Jesus hates then how can we say that we love Jesus?

I go along with Brianna - except GOD'S name is Jesus for me.
