John was describing the actual appearance of Christ. It emphasize the color of him, his hair texture, feet, and the garments he wore. verse 14 began the description.
  • Garyloyd on Revelation 1 - 13 years ago
God sent Jesus. When Christ went to the cross He was just a man of flesh. PAIN. The only thing special about Jesus and the only way He walked that walk was that special love in His heart for us who love Him. A click of His fingers and He could have 10,0000 angels stop the pain but He loved us and wanted us to have life thru His loving heart we are saved. Remember God the Holy Spirit is the Law and the Great white throne Judgment. Love Jesus, he is the Love of God.
  • Garyloyd on Revelation 1 - 13 years ago
Jesus asked 3 times who do you disciples think "I AM" Jesus said, before Abraham I was. In Isaiah God makes it clear that there is only the God and Savour. God is a Spirit who sits on Earth and puts his feet on the moon who sent Himself and will join back together in Revelation 20 on the Throne to complete His Plan. Ask in your prayers to God in Jesus Christ name. One God. Many places in the scripture you can see who the WORD is God and that is Christ and Christ is Jesus. The wonderful Mystery of the Perfect God and loving Father our Wonderful Jesus and King of kings and LORD of Lords.

To Ray, your anomaly is with good reason. When Jehovah God said let us create man in our own image, He was speaking to someone-Jesus before his prehuman existence on Earth. When Jesus was on the cross at Calvary and He cried out Father why has thou forsaken me, he was speaking to his Father-Jehovah. God the Father, Jesus His Son and the Holy Spirit the comforter are three separate beings. Jesus was not deceiving his followers when He spoke of His Father. He truly was speaking about His Father. When Jesus said I and my Father are one, He was explaining that they have the same will and purpose. The same way a sport team would say we are number one but not actually mean that they are all the same person or being but that they have one goal or purpose. (of course this is a much smaller scale then that of Jesus serving His Father's will)I hope to have helped edify on this matter. Visit "The Bible Standard" website

The fact that St. John may have been on Patmos Island in his very old age has no bearing on the writing of the Book of Revelation. Rev.22:16 shows clearly that Jesus was alive when this book was written in 69AD and John was the witness. Acts 25:19 clearly shows Jesus was alive in 62AD and 2 Peter 1:14 shows Jesus is alive shortly before June of 66 AD.and talking to Peter shortly before Peter was executed in 66 AD as Peter was in England in the spring of 66 AD. Jesus died in 73 AD. St. Marcilia the handmaiden {second wife-priestess} was a co writer.

Please try to get through all of this thank you How can you get it so wrong, it not right till you see everything God wanted you to see, This part as been better than any, I can't begin to tell how satisfying to see the result of the mystery of the seven stars and the seven golden lamp stands that are the seven churches. Why are those names repeated, how do they get to be in the order they are in, how can it be possible that revelations tells of exactly this. who as what doctrin who hates, who as little patients, who's first love and let battle comence. that they will be removed to become a church that will do the work, seven stars seven battles that will tell of what you see now.and that each will be repaced by it's successer and for the reason stated in revelation Order in Rev is 1 EPH, 2 SMY, 3 PER, 4 THY, 5 SAR, 6 PHI, 7 LAO, 1 moves 3, 4 moves 3, 2 moves 7, 5 moves 1, 2 moves 5, 6 moves 2, 1 moves 4, however there is a snag concerning one point and I'm not so sure what is happening, though it is still correct please drop me a line to explain

Jesus is God and he created the world and saved the world. He is the son of God and son of Virgin Mary. God Son is Jesus and he is one of the three (Father, Son and Holly Sprit). Do not get confused with what the world (people who are led by demon) is currently saying about Jesus.

  • Ray on Revelation 1:1 - 13 years ago
Jade's comment on 5/01/2012 brings an anomaly into my mind which has since I was a tiny boy, confounded me entirely. The "trinity" (Father, Son and Holy spirit/ghost) are impossibly one, in my mind. For while Jesus was on the stake, and died, the Father was above. While Jesus was in the womb, the Father certainly was not. And during creation, Jesus was God's first creation - and he sat at his right hand and heard his Father eventually say "Let us create man in our own image". The plural is way more than implied.

I understand that God, the Father (YAWEH, Jehova) is "from everlasting to everlasting" and he created all that followed. I understand that his son Jesus about oncompleted a mission on earth - and endured the test of temptation from Satan in the wilderness for 40 days. Jesus had as much choice as anyone else to side with Satan and become powerful beyond dreams on Earth - but like Satan, would have fallen from his Father's grace.

So please, could the pool of enlightened souls out there clear up this anomaly?
  • A Believer on Revelation 1:14 - 13 years ago
The resurrected Jesus could appear in any countenance he wants to be like in order to bring about the message to the person he is manifesting. Here the message is clear: to comfort John's heart. Only the king, the wisdom bearer, with vehement passion could direct the old apostle's step what should be done next under the persecution tempest.

The ancient names of Patmos Island near Greece are Patima, Palmosa, Patnos and Letios. Revelation 1:9 is important as it shows the Book of Revelation was written in 69AD by Jesus Christ and was witnessed by Saint John near the first above ground Christian Church at the Isle of Glastonbury Tor{Path mos} in Wycliffe Rev. 1:9 was one of the main reasons why so many of Wycliffe's followers were murdered by the Vatican who doesn't want anyone to know that Christ wrote the book of Revelation.
  • David on Revelation 1:9 - 13 years ago
The Wycliffe version clearly shows Ile of Pathmos is Glastonbury Tor which was an island 2000 years ago as Mos is a bog or peatmos or low lying meadow. The Latin word for Patmos Island by Greece is PATMO. The 1989 NRSV Roman Catholic Bible version of pathmos shows PAT'MOS. Rathmoss in Northern England is a good example of Brythonic

"...to kill with sword..." ( Revelation 6:8)

I find it interesting that the word "sword" here is the same word used for sword in Revelation 1:16; Revelation 2:12,16; Revelation 19:15; and Revelation 19:21. ([Greek #4501 - in a James Strong concordance [cover and pages missing])

In other usages, #3162 is used for sword.

The #4501 is always referencing Jesus and the Word of God; whereas, #3162 seems to reference a physical sword.

Once in Hebrews 4:12, the #3162 is used saying the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword... So the word of God is being contrasted with a physical sword.
Also, in Ephesians 6:17 the #3162 is used; but, the sword we are told to take (the sword of the Spirit) is the Word of God.

I find it interesting that the sword in Revelation 6:8 is #4501.

Three days and three nights, then Jesus was resurrected and lives forever more, and we can live with Him for eternity if we keep His commandments. We love Him, because He first loved us.

Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, .... The Alpha, the beginning of Time & Space (Finite); the Omega, the end of Time & Space - the return to the Infinite (Immortality).
  • Ricky Chambers on Revelation 1:1 - 13 years ago
Rev.1:1 the word " revelation " means to unvail,or to uncover. When you see the word "The" at the begining of a sentence pertaining to the scriptures means "positively one". The Revelation of Jesus Christ, meaning to unvail or to The uncover. What did God give to Jesus? The things that were to come to pass,What were the things?"Prophecy"was to shortly come to pass;and he sent and signified it by his angel, Who was his angel? The Bible was written in 2 languages the old testament-Hebrew the new testament-Greek THE greek def. says "angel" means a pastor 0r messenger. The hebrew def. means to despatch as a deputy;a messenger;spec,of God angel (also a prophet, priest or teacher-ambassador,angel,king,messenger. In John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Ho'ly Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name,he shall teach you all things, bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. so the angel is the 'holy ghost' sent unto his servant John

The book of revelation is a wonderful message to all humanity. I know I've only scratched the tip of the tip of the ice berg.
In the first chapter there is a declaration of who this book is written by and who it is for. Verse 11 says that this book is to be sent to the churches in Asia. Would God be a just and fair God if this message was only for the people in Asia, of course not, it is meant for all. The churches in Asia show the characteristics of all people in general as laid out in chapter 2 & 3. All the messages to the churches begin the same way "Unto the angel of the church..." (singular) of and end in the same way " He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches" (plural)I am not 100% sure why "church" is singular in the beginning and plural at the end.
The churches I believe also represent different ages.In general North America is in Laodeceans church age, lukewarm we think we are "rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked" If this was talking about physical riches people would know if they blind and naked ect. It is speaking about spiritual wealth which many equate to scriptual knowledge, just like the scibes and pharisees. While in China or other places where people are imprisoned or even killed for the gospel it would be hard to say that they are lukewarm in their faith.
No man needs religion but every man, woman and child needs God.

    God bless you all

We should prayerfully read the Bible, ask God for understanding. The bible does explain itself, verse 20,for example tells us what the seven candlesticks & stars are.

  • Deb on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
to Ralph gosselins.... If the Lord says there were seven golden candle sticks then there were seven golden candle sticks. Have faith in what he says, he is everything, this is the book of revelation that has NOT happened yet, remember? Pay attention
  • Meme on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
Well, if we will read and comprend, Jesue said, he who has an ear let him ear what the WORD of the Lord says! All I can tell say is that we must study the show ourselves approved. Also we have to be OPEN MINDED to the WORD as well so that we can read with understand and u can, if we stop trying to figure GOD out and pray for understanding, that is what the WORD says!
  • Sibongile on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
The book of revelation is a symbolic book, some people dont understand this prophetic book that exposes the devil's in this last day. in order to understand the prophets of this book you should read it together with the book of Daniel, ask the holy spirit to guide you as you study this books
  • Andre on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
I think that its very important that gods people refrain from being arrogant as i was myself in the past which cost me dearly. when god gives us a revelation its important that we dont beat those upon the head that had not recieved this revelation. Remember Gods grace on your own life befor you became so wise and such a scholor at least in your own eyes. This is for all who has read Gods word and feels that you were spoken to by his spirit and decided that Gods Grace wasnt sufficient for all.
  • Ralph L. Gosselin on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
#12. They did not have candlesticks 2000 years ago!! They had OIL LAMPS that were a sacread OIL.And what happend to the words ( Do not change even one word on the revelations of God or woo to those that do. ) The word candlestick is a abomination, dor it is not the same meaning.
  • Ralph gosselin on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
right on target. all thats left in the building of the temple.
  • Susan Dalton on Revelation 20:9 - 14 years ago
"And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them... And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea... And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:"
    ( Revelation 20:9; 21:1,3)

"...And we shall reign on the earth." ( Revelation 5:10)

There will be a final roll back. A roll back in political science is the annhilating of the enemy army, the replacing of its regime, and the occupying of its country.

Satan will seek his roll back. "And it was given unto him to make war with the saints and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world." ( Revelation 13:7-8)

Satan will put in place his regime. ( Revelation 13) He will occupy the earth.

Yet, God will have the final roll back. "...Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, God and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever...( Revelation 20:7-10)

"...And we shall reign on the earth..."

Jesus said, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending." ( Revelation 1:8)

The final roll back will be by God.

  • Ronald Allen on Revelation 1 - 14 years ago
As I read the comments here, I noticed a lot of you, are part of a group of people, when discussing the bible, say"this is what it means too me"......Don't get angry, Do you really believe God cares what you think, He didnt leave it open for discussion or debate, He clearly said and warned us about doing that very thing! God told us not to change a thing in his word, not one jot or tittle, and that His word was open to NO mans interpretation, that the word would interpret itself......Honestly, why do you think there are so many interpretations of the bible, and why would we run to and fro serching for his word when there are so many bibles? Once man interpret the bible into his own words, you have a fallable bible that can no longer be called Gods word, it is mans interpretation of Gods word,,and the so called Rapture is just one EXAMPLE, you have to ASSUME a whole of things to pull that out of the hat, and yes we will no when it is time for christ to return, yes Jesus did say no one knows the Day or the hour the son will return, He did say his people would know the time of his return, not exact day or hour, but you should be able to say he will return at the end of the 120th Jubilee, on the feast of trumpets and at the last trumpet to be prcise with His word, oh, FWY, the last Jubilee ends September or octobe 2023,As Christians we are comanded to know these things, God said his people perish because of a lack of knowlege and for being willingly ignorant, we where told the end from the begining, so take the bible at face value, and keep it in context, I hope this made you think instead of making you angry,,,,,rethink what you were taught, just because you were taught in error gives us no excuse, with Love, Ron Allen
