Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with all the congregation? O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever. And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me? Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me for they are thine. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled. And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

The word of God is sweet like honey and should stick to us just like honey. The Lord asked a question how sweet is thy words.... are your words suitable or pleasing in His sight? Only you can speak for yourself, but Jesus word speaks to us all as we strive to spread His word so that we and share His unfailing love.

Some say our SAVIOUR will pour His wrath upon both the righteous and unrighteous which is a most-unrighteous belief in itself. Do not strive with these but rejoice in the truth of the Father's Word and preach the truth as you receive it from Him. We must love our enemies. In Christ, God bless you. Psalms 31:18 Let the lying lips be put to silence which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. Psalms 119:163 I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. Psalms 145:20 The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

    Nadine, well said. Psalms 119:104.
the person that said," all are afraid" is not heeding; Proverbs 14:5.
  • Irene on Psalms 119 - 10 years ago
I love this psalm because it 'drills' the word of God into your head and the TRUTH of it. We need his word to be drilled, ingrained into us as Christians - to have our weapons against satan.

Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation : Whom shall I fear ? The word of God lights my path : I choose to walk in His word : The word of God lights my path so there is no need of stumbling : I can see where I'm going : When I hear from God's word then I know where I am going : I Thank God that He has made it possible for me to have a copy of His word and that I get to , not have to, walk in His word. It is my choice. Sometimes it is hard : But that is when I'm contending with my flesh I get myself lined up and then I'm walking in His path !!! Praise God !!

This may be understood in two ways. First, it is time for the Lord to do something, or second, it is time for us to do something for the Lord. Both seem to work, seeing the Lord does work though His children to fulfill His purposes. However looking at the verse in the context of what follows, " for they have made void thy law," that David is wanting the Lord to do something. God is able to restrain men and to bring them to repentance through trials and calamities and also when men get a glimpse of His goodness and mercy. I believe they both work here and God wants us to engage our culture in the power of the Holy Spirit so both translations are present. God does and will act independent of man however He also answers prayers that often connect us with that work.

When I read this verse, my mind went directly to Romans 6:16, Know ye not, that whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey whether sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? David burned the bridges behind him, and he willing became a servant of God. As a servant, David is simply asking for clarity in his marching orders. He wants to know God's testimonies so that his obedience would be more perfected.

David's plea is that God would deal with him in mercy. David knew that he failed miserably short in measuring up to God's righteous standard. Though his heart was after God and that was the dominating characteristic of his life, he still knew the failures in the past. In Psalms 51 we read David's confession to God after committing adultery with Bathsheba and having her husband killed when he said, " I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is ever before me." There is no one who knows themselves that would dare to ask God to judge me according to my equal righteousness that I share with You, and would not rather fall down on their face and cry our for God's abundant mercy. David finishes the verse asking God, teach me thy statutes. He knew the very capability of understanding God's word was of the mercies of God.

This sounds like verse 81. Please see my notes on that. David longs for salvation, both temporal and eternal. He also desires to know God's righteous word. Through the Psalms you see David inquiring of God more and more, that he might have a deeper knowledge of Him which means a deeper fellowship.

My thoughts on verse 122 are as if one would co-sign a loan with another. The person co-signing that loan would join interest for the purpose of helping in the betterment of the other's venture. David is doing just that. He is asking God to confound those oppressing him by intervening on his behalf. I believe David's heart is right in asking for this, as he is probably in the cross hairs of his enemies because of his faith in God. With that reason alone, I believe that prayer is a right prayer to ask.

AIN, another division in the Psalms Ain is a letter in Hebrew alphabet. David is first making a statement to God. I have tried to the best of my ability , to observe scripture and to live it out. No one could perfectly do this and I'm sure David's not claiming perfection, but he has given his life to God and His word. Next we see David asking a petition, Leave me not to mine oppressors. David knew he had missed the mark many times in his life but the over desire was to serve God at all cost. It is not improper to call on God when ones life direction is in glorifying God.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:120 - 10 years ago
I could write a book on this verse! Most Christians today have forgot what it means to revere God. We have lost our awe of Him. Ex. 33:20 God said " there shall no man see me and live." Many times in scripture we see men falling to the ground on their faces when they are in the presence of God. In James 2:19 we see the devils believe and tremble. A verse that comes to mind is John 18:5 6 when they came to arrest Jesus in the garden, and they all fell backward when Jesus said, I am he. David had the awe of God and he knew this reverent fear of God. He feared God and he feared His testimonies. Fearing God's testimonies would come when we see how strict they are and how far we are from that righteous standard. Many have strayed from striving in holiness and have put everything in the grace basket. However we have the Holy Spirit that Peter say in 2 Peter 1:3, According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.

First and foremost, God's word is a benefit to man as it give direction, warning and comfort to name a few. Man sets himself up for failure when he disregards God's instruction. This verse reminds me of Romans Chapter 1: 24, 26, 28 where we read God gave them up to their own desires, which led to their destruction. One day these will face an angry God who will judge the wicked and pour out His wrath on them which is far worse than the self destruction they are enduring now.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:117 - 10 years ago
This seems similar to the last verse. David is again acknowledging his dependency on God to hold him up. Then I shall be safe, or better, saved. This is, like last verse, temporal and eternal salvation in David's mind. Then I will have respect unto thy statutes continually, or better said, Your word is the apple of my eye.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:116 - 10 years ago
I believe we all pray this prayer. Keep me from falling in the trials and temptations of life. Again David acknowledges his total dependency on God, in this life and in the life to come. He ends, don't let me be ashamed of my hope, that would be his trust in God's word.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:115 - 10 years ago
My mind went to 1 Corinthians 5:10. Here Paul is stating the necessity of engaging the world in which we live, which means we will, at times, be in company of fornicators, covetous, etc. Paul does go on to forbid such contact if those practicing these life styles call themselves Christians. I believe what David is saying here is he did not want anyone around him that would deter him in his walk with God. I believe the line is drawn when the one you are trying to influence is influencing you. At that point it is time to pull back.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:103 - 10 years ago
I picture David reading and meditating on God's word and as he reads he is taking in all the promises to the righteous. As he reads, I see a smile on his face, because of the sweetness contained in this book. Sweeter than the honeycomb, Psalms 19:10 states.
