The word torment used in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus is the Greek word BASANOIS. The meaning from Greek to English would pretty much be the same as what we would understand torment to be. Whether it is mental anguish or physical torment, I think it can be both. It seemed to be both for the rich man. He seemed to be in a state of mental torment knowing that his family members (brothers) would soon be in this same place unless someone went to warn them. We also know that he was in physical torment, wanting the tip of his tongue to be cooled. Can you imagine that? Here is a man in physical torment and all he asks is for the tip of his tongue to be cooled. He didn't ask for someone to throw him a rope so he could get out!
We also know that there is a place of eternal torment called the lake of fire. To tell you how the word torment is used in other verses would take a tremendous amount of time and space. That's a huge favor. I don't mind sharing my understanding with you but I'm not sure I want to tackle that one. The short answer is that the word torment means pretty much the same in English as it does in Greek.
For the rich man in Hades, he's still in torment. One day he will be released, judged at the Great White Throne Judgement, and then cast into the lake of fire, a place of eternal torment.

HEALING - I've had miracles in my own life. Almost four years ago, I couldn't walk due to an illness. Friends and family prayed. And not long after, I just got up and walked. My great-nephew was so sick in the womb that doctors advised abortion, but his mother refused. Family and friends prayed. And the symptoms left that child. And he was born healthy and thrives today at four years old. God is on the throne. He hears prayer. God can heal immediately Matthew 8:13 or after a period of time Mark 5:5. Remember, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He did while He walked the earth, he can do sitting at the right hand of God in Heaven. God bless.
Hello Joanne. Matthew 15:24: "But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
Jesus had gone to the coastal towns of Tyre & Sidon which are in Phoenicia. He went to minister to the Jews there (you might remember that the tribe of Asher had inherited some of that portion of the Land of Canaan back in the days of Joshua). So, we're not told what type of ministry Jesus was already doing there, when a Canaanitish woman approached Him to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus didn't want to expand His Work to all people, so initially He refused her, saying that His Mission was to "the lost sheep of Israel", or the Jews who were perishing/in darkness for lack of Truth. Some could interpret Jesus' phrase as 'to the Jews who were scattered in these far off parts', but I think the emphasis on their 'spiritual needs' was what Jesus was referring to here. If Jesse sees this, he could clarify it better than me.
But because of this woman's great faith, Jesus just gave the Word of healing, for we read that her daughter was healed in that hour, or in that moment. And Jesus did touch the lives of non-Jews from time to time (e.g. you can look up Matthew 8:5-13; John 4:1-42; Mark 5:1-17) but His Mission was primarily to the "lost sheep of Israel".
Right this second, the most important thing your brother needs--above and beyond a cancer cure--if he has not been born again, he needs to take Jesus Christ as his personal Savior.

Greetings in the Name of Christ! You are perfectly correct. Every human being is born spiritually dead, in that he is disconnected from God because of an inherent sin nature ( 1 Cor. 15:22). God is the only source of life. Therefore, one is considered to be unplugged from God and spiritually dead until he is born again and plugged in ( John 17:3). He is then quickened and made alive. Jesus used a personal pronoun "their" when describing the dead because, until one is born again, he is merely a product a procreation, and belongs to the current world system. On devils believing in James 2:19, it doesn't say devils believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and his resurrection but rather that there is one God, yet they still tremble... It doesn't mean they are going to heaven! The book of Jude says they are reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.
Do devils believe God exists? Yes! Can they ever be saved? No, according to Jude and other scriptures. Their case is closed!
More evidence that devils believe God/ Jesus is real? Acts 19:13-16, the sons of Sceva who were casting our an unclean spirit failed and the unclean spirit said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye.."
Mark 1:34 - "And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him."
Matthew 8:28-29 - "And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. CHRISTIANS CANT GO TO HELL!
Matthew 7:21-23 ---> Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
He that doeth the will of God(sanctification through Christ)is the one that shall enter heaven.
Remember in v.15 He started with, ".. beware of false prophets.." . Can devils perform miracles? YES. 10 plagues in Egypt. Moses does one, the magicians do the other.
Revelation 19:20 - And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles..
You could also cite the many Scriptures that speak of those who fell down & worshipped Jesus. And this was not people doing obeisance to a 'mighty Prophet of God', but in recognition that this Holy One came from God & to be worshipped as they would God.
A few Scriptures: Matthew 2:10,11 (the magi from the East before the Babe). Matthew 8:2 (by a Leper). Matthew 9:18. Matthew 14:33. John 9:36-38. Acts 10:25,26 (an account where Peter refused the worship of Cornelius).
I always pray to the Father, but I find no reason why I can't pray to the Lord Jesus & glorify & worship Him also.
In common understanding of the word, it means 'to express a sharp, stern disapproval; to reprove or reprimand'.
The word doesn't appear in Luke 9:21, so I'll give some other Scriptures that show various uses of the word:
a. Matthew 8:26: Jesus gave out a clear command to the elements.
b. Matthew 17:18: Jesus issued a Divine authoritative Command against the Devil.
c. Luke 9:55: Jesus was stern & gave a strong correction to the disciples' ignorance & presumption.
d. Mark 8:33: Jesus scolded Peter (at least the spirit working in & through him), for challenging the mission that Jesus was on. Peter had (in verse 32) rebuked (challenged) Jesus on that point.
So these few examples might show you how the word 'rebuke' was being used during Jesus' Ministry.
Simply put Faith is something you believe in without a doubt. example, when you sit in a chair that you have never sat in before, do you check it out to make sure that it is safe or do you just sit in it, trusting that it was built to hold a human weight. This, to me would be an example of Faith that it was built to be safe. Or when you see a little child and see the trust they have in their parents to protect and nourish them, this is another example of Faith. Throughout the NT there are many examples of Faith, John 20:25 Thomas who just spent 3 years with Jesus, but had doubt on His resurrection, until Jesus showed himself to him, Mark 5:25-34 is of a woman who had an issue of blood, and believed, and she was healed. Matthew 8:10 the Roman centurion believed and his servant was healed. Likewise as Christians we need to believe that Jesus death and resurrection on the cross is the only way to our salvation. Hebrews chapter 11 Paul explains faith in great detail, Matthew 18:3 tells us to become and believe as a child. I hope this helps.

In chapter eight, God has revealed to me so much about myself. This summer as I was working in the yard, something seemed to come up through the bottom of my shoes clear up and out the top of my head and caused me to do an act and as I was in route to do this, I said to myself, I really don't care who sees me. This was Not me but happened through me and was so quick I just seemed to have no control. This chapter has showed me number one it was the devil and I was at such a weak point and moment in my life that the devil can move and is waiting to move on you so quickly it does pay to study and know Gods word. The next thing I knew was someone from church had seen me and as said in the comment section, "God often,for wise and holy ends,permits the efforts of satin's rage. Thus the devil hurries people to sin;hurries them to what they have resolved against,which they know will be shame and grief to them: miserable is the condition of those who are led captive by him at his will." This has and still has lead sickness to me emotionally, physically, and spiritually. I'm a Christian but I've never resolved to taking the time to set aside for God and his time to come first always an excuse so busy. That is the devil and his angels wanting you to believe that. He is a liar and always will be. This chapter and what God revealed to me was I should, and with God,s devine help, I will put God and his will for me first and in doing so, God will see I have the time effectively for my other responsibilities. Just as he does in our finances when we tithe and give God his first. I'm so thankful for this lesson and what it has meant to me. Talk about needing a road map, I have when it comes to getting things in correct order for the sake of my Lord Jesus Christ. Who else can we want or need to please other than our Savior. If you are his child, what an honor to say so and tell others about. I prayed so hard last evening for forgiveness to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I hurt.

Sorry but you are incorrect, the pretrib rapture is biblical, but there is also a subsequent one in the great tribulation for the left behind who by then will have repented and the new believers. Most take a LOVE LETTER FROM JESUS; TITLED: GOD'S SIMPLE PLAN OF SALVATION. I pray for you daily with all my brothers and sisters in the world, especially missionaries; that we all will witness daily what Jesus has done for us. You noticed the Lord said he will keep them from the "HOUR", Meaning time of temptation? Now don't that parallel with 1st Thessalonians 5:9?. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. Now i have heard it said that all saints would have to go through the tribulation for purification, Doesn't that render Christ blood shed on the cross inadequate? I thought we were washed, I thought we were hid in Christ, I thought we were sanctified in Christ, why is there need for such purification? what about the saints who has already died in Christ? THE prophets, the Apostles, ect.. I thought Christ was smitten once for our sins, if we were baptised into Christ at conversion,. If we are the body of Christ and going to appointed to wrath wouldn't that be like smitten him again? In Isaiah 53:11 He says: He shall see of the travail of his soul, and be satisfied. Were not appointed to wrath.

I actually took the time to listen to that lengthy teaching on the Pre-Trib Rapture deception. He spoke very well & covered a lot of ground, but failed to be more explicit in certain areas that the pre-tribbers would also hold to.
a. The Great Tribulation is a special event in history when it is God's Wrath that is poured upon the world of unbelievers. The tribulations that come to us, whether coping with life's demands & challenges or going through various intensities of persecution & to the laying down our lives for the Lord, are not part of God's Wrath, but what comes to us living in a fallen corrupt world ruled by the prince of this World. And on this aspect the YT speaker dwells on. One would need to look at the fact that a believer who has already been freed from the God's condemnation through Christ, would he then have to face His Wrath for his & the world's 'wickedness'?
b. 1 Corinthians 15:51,52 which ties in with 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is taken as a separate event to the Day of the Lord not because of the specific events of the dead rising along with the saints to be with the Lord forever, but also what Paul was saying was a Mystery: something unknown or veiled beforehand, being revealed now. Just as the mystery of the Church ( Romans 11:25, Ephesians 5:32, 6:19, Colossians 1:27), so the mystery of the catching away that was not unknown before. The speaker never referred to this important point.
c. The escape of Lot & his family or of Noah & his from the pouring out of God's Wrath was not dealt particularly well by him. He emphasized that they escaped but the unbelievers were destroyed whereas in the Gt. Tribulation, it would not be so, therefore the analogy failed. However, I think that the emphasis is seen to be on the fact that God took out the righteous from the scene of His outpouring Anger.
These being a few of my observations from his talk, & though quite comprehensive & he being well studied, I remain unconvinced from his presentation.

Please pray that Christ and His Father and Holy Spirit will come into my heart and remove the internal anger from abuse, and remove my stony heart--replacing it with a heart of flesh, that I may "love my enemies," and FORGIVE them. If I do not forgive them, I cannot be forgiven by GOD.
Please pray that GOD will PLEASE put a stop to the abuse and stop my abusers from sabotaging my efforts to get hired (at a job or multiple jobs). They ALWAYS destroy both me AND whatever efforts that I put forth mine hand to do to get hired...ALWAYS. GOD has ALLOWED this, in addition to allowing them to stop me from attempting to grow in the LORD by learning what behavior is good and comely to HIM--via His word.
I JUST want to be a "GOOD CHILD" to Him, His Son, and His Holy Spirit--obedient and well-pleasing. His ways keep people me from a lot of worldly traps set by Satan--unforgiveness being one of them. Please agree with me in prayer, that GOD will have mercy on me and make my abusers stop harming me, and destroying my employment and personal/private Holy Bible learning & studying.
GOD IS! And if HE wills a thing to be--it WILL BE! It is up to GOD--He controls ALL! "Marvel" expresses less than amazement or astonishment. It's defined as a wonder; that which arrests the attention and causes a person to stand or gaze; to pause.
In Luke 2:30-33, the parents "marvelled" about what Simeon and others said about the Christ child.
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
In the New Testament of the Bible, you'll find the word "marvelled" used in other contexts, but it retains the same definition that is stated at the top of this answer. The following verse is Matthew 8:10...
"When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."
Actually. He was from Nazareth, in Judea, and the Jewish laws number 593 & 594 state that a Nazarite shall permit his hair to grow and not cut his hair. So he could have had longer hair. Should it really matter? God Bless

HEALING - I've had miracles in my own life. Almost four years ago, I couldn't walk due to an illness. Friends and family prayed. And not long after, I just got up and walked. My great-nephew was so sick in the womb that doctors advised abortion, but his mother refused. Family and friends prayed. And the symptoms left that child. And he was born healthy and thrives today at four years old. God is on the throne. He hears prayer. God can heal immediately Matthew 8:13 or after a period of time Mark 5:5. Remember, Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He did while He walked the earth, he can do sitting at the right hand of God in Heaven. God bless.
Jesus had gone to the coastal towns of Tyre & Sidon which are in Phoenicia. He went to minister to the Jews there (you might remember that the tribe of Asher had inherited some of that portion of the Land of Canaan back in the days of Joshua). So, we're not told what type of ministry Jesus was already doing there, when a Canaanitish woman approached Him to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus didn't want to expand His Work to all people, so initially He refused her, saying that His Mission was to "the lost sheep of Israel", or the Jews who were perishing/in darkness for lack of Truth. Some could interpret Jesus' phrase as 'to the Jews who were scattered in these far off parts', but I think the emphasis on their 'spiritual needs' was what Jesus was referring to here. If Jesse sees this, he could clarify it better than me.
But because of this woman's great faith, Jesus just gave the Word of healing, for we read that her daughter was healed in that hour, or in that moment. And Jesus did touch the lives of non-Jews from time to time (e.g. you can look up Matthew 8:5-13; John 4:1-42; Mark 5:1-17) but His Mission was primarily to the "lost sheep of Israel".

If he is already a born-again Christian, he has nothing to fear. 2 Corinthians 5:8 "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

What did Jesus mean by: let THE DEAD bury their dead"? Did he mean the Spiritually-dead,
(the unsaved)???
Do devils believe God exists? Yes! Can they ever be saved? No, according to Jude and other scriptures. Their case is closed!
More evidence that devils believe God/ Jesus is real? Acts 19:13-16, the sons of Sceva who were casting our an unclean spirit failed and the unclean spirit said, "Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye.."
Mark 1:34 - "And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him."
Matthew 8:28-29 - "And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?"
CHRISTIANS CANT GO TO HELL!
Matthew 7:21-23 ---> Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
He that doeth the will of God(sanctification through Christ)is the one that shall enter heaven.
Remember in v.15 He started with, ".. beware of false prophets.." . Can devils perform miracles? YES. 10 plagues in Egypt. Moses does one, the magicians do the other.
Revelation 19:20 - And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles..

That being said, figuratively there was the possessed man at the beginning and the freed man at the end of the encounter.
The same can be said for everyone that is made free by Jesus.

A few Scriptures: Matthew 2:10,11 (the magi from the East before the Babe). Matthew 8:2 (by a Leper). Matthew 9:18. Matthew 14:33. John 9:36-38. Acts 10:25,26 (an account where Peter refused the worship of Cornelius).
I always pray to the Father, but I find no reason why I can't pray to the Lord Jesus & glorify & worship Him also.
The word doesn't appear in Luke 9:21, so I'll give some other Scriptures that show various uses of the word:
a. Matthew 8:26: Jesus gave out a clear command to the elements.
b. Matthew 17:18: Jesus issued a Divine authoritative Command against the Devil.
c. Luke 9:55: Jesus was stern & gave a strong correction to the disciples' ignorance & presumption.
d. Mark 8:33: Jesus scolded Peter (at least the spirit working in & through him), for challenging the mission that Jesus was on. Peter had (in verse 32) rebuked (challenged) Jesus on that point.
So these few examples might show you how the word 'rebuke' was being used during Jesus' Ministry.
John 20:25 "The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe."
Mark 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. 29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. Mark 5:34 "And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague."
Matthew 8:10 "When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

a. The Great Tribulation is a special event in history when it is God's Wrath that is poured upon the world of unbelievers. The tribulations that come to us, whether coping with life's demands & challenges or going through various intensities of persecution & to the laying down our lives for the Lord, are not part of God's Wrath, but what comes to us living in a fallen corrupt world ruled by the prince of this World. And on this aspect the YT speaker dwells on. One would need to look at the fact that a believer who has already been freed from the God's condemnation through Christ, would he then have to face His Wrath for his & the world's 'wickedness'?
b. 1 Corinthians 15:51,52 which ties in with 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 is taken as a separate event to the Day of the Lord not because of the specific events of the dead rising along with the saints to be with the Lord forever, but also what Paul was saying was a Mystery: something unknown or veiled beforehand, being revealed now. Just as the mystery of the Church ( Romans 11:25, Ephesians 5:32, 6:19, Colossians 1:27), so the mystery of the catching away that was not unknown before. The speaker never referred to this important point.
c. The escape of Lot & his family or of Noah & his from the pouring out of God's Wrath was not dealt particularly well by him. He emphasized that they escaped but the unbelievers were destroyed whereas in the Gt. Tribulation, it would not be so, therefore the analogy failed. However, I think that the emphasis is seen to be on the fact that God took out the righteous from the scene of His outpouring Anger.
These being a few of my observations from his talk, & though quite comprehensive & he being well studied, I remain unconvinced from his presentation.

Please pray that GOD will PLEASE put a stop to the abuse and stop my abusers from sabotaging my efforts to get hired (at a job or multiple jobs). They ALWAYS destroy both me AND whatever efforts that I put forth mine hand to do to get hired...ALWAYS. GOD has ALLOWED this, in addition to allowing them to stop me from attempting to grow in the LORD by learning what behavior is good and comely to HIM--via His word.
I JUST want to be a "GOOD CHILD" to Him, His Son, and His Holy Spirit--obedient and well-pleasing. His ways keep people me from a lot of worldly traps set by Satan--unforgiveness being one of them. In Luke 2:30-33, the parents "marvelled" about what Simeon and others said about the Christ child.
30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.
In the New Testament of the Bible, you'll find the word "marvelled" used in other contexts, but it retains the same definition that is stated at the top of this answer. The following verse is Matthew 8:10...
"When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."
Lamb Of God:
