to Onyame Charles 's comment on Luke chapter 3 verse 38. Adam was the first man CREATED by God, see Genn chapter 5 vrs 1 So God as a Creator is the Father. Adam was a sinner. Don 't compare him with The real Son of God , JESUS who was with the Father before the foundation of the world. In fact as John says In chapter 1 verse 3 of his gospel "all things were made by Him Jesus and without Him was not anything made .... ". And remember, Jesus walked in this world without a sin.

Hello Onyame Charles. In addition to my first response to your question, Adam was the first man on this Earth. As I stated before God made him from dust and breathed the breath of life into him. The breath of life is different from the power of the Holy Ghost. I like to look at it like this, one gives life the other gives both, a new life in Christ Jesus and the power to get and see into heaven.
Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Luke 3 - 10 years ago
Hello Onyame Charles Simply put because God made him out of dust and breathed the breath of life into him and he became a living soul. That made him God 's son. Remember the Holy Ghost name is Jesus Christ, John 14 26 it is the power of God. God actually conceived Jesus Christ through his power of the Holy Ghost, Matthew 1 20. This means that Jesus was begotten of the God, John 1 14, John 1 18 and 1 John 5 1. This did not say he was the only son. It just states he was the only begotten son. Now the mystery behind Jesus Christ is that he is both Lord and Christ. He is God manifested in the flesh, 1 Timothy 3 16. One he made out of dust the other he conceived with a woman.

Part 3 of 3 Mary had four other sons, Joseph, James, Jude, and Simon. Because of the virgin birth, Joseph was not the father of Jesus so these were the half brothers of Jesus. The last three mentioned are not to be confused with those who were disciples of Jesus by the same name. Here are some passages where the other sons of Mary by Joseph are mentioned, Matthew 12 46 and Matthew 13 55 .
Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Luke 3 - 10 years ago
Part 2 of 3 I know some scholars may argue that these are the Apostles mentioned but when you look closely at the scripture it states that James was Jesus Christ brother. Then the scripture states those other apostles and the Lord s Jesus Christ who is both Lord and Christ brothers, and then Cephas who was called Simon . Joseph was the stepfather of Jesus Christ. The definition of Stepfather is a man married to a woman with children but is not the children s biological father. Even though he was not Jesus Christ biological father people still recognized him as Joseph s son, Luke 4 22.

Part 1 of 3 Hello Larry, Dan, and Joseph Jesus Christ did have brothers and sisters. Acts 1 14 All these continued together in prayer with one mind, together with the women, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers . 1 Corinthians 9 5 Do we not have the right to the company of a believing wife, like the other apostles and the Lord s brothers and Cephas? Galatians 1 19 But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord s brother. Mark 6 3 Isn t this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And aren t his sisters here with us? And so they took offense at him.
I am not sure but to response to Larry 's comment, Mary was born to sinners. Mary 's parent are all descendant of Adam so why single out Joseph. If God used Paul to save both the Jews and the gentiles, then Jesus being offspring of Joseph does not disqualify Joseph to be the Father of Jesus. Biologically or spiritually He was given the opportunity to be Jesus 's Dad because He availed himself. Please respond to that.
I really love the Book of Luke. I learnt alot from this chapter. As believers, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us. And we also need to be humble. Many of the elders didnot believe John because they refused to humble themselves.
I am filled with Joy and wisdom and Hope having search this saying and it coming to me from a Still Small voice as a new Christian Sceiencest and Reader Of Mary Baker Eddy s Book I am also a Novice Bible reader
I was wondering why the NIV states "those along the path" while all the others say "by the wayside" or something like that? I think that it is referring to those BY THE WAYSIDE that hear, yet the devil comes and takes it from their hearts to prevent them from believing and being saved. While the NIV makes it sound as if those ON THE PATH are the ones who hear and the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts so that they may not believe and be/remain saved. That is two different descriptions. The ones who believe (on the path) and the ones (by the wayside) that are hearing the word to begin to believe. It is confusing. To me it sounds as if the NIV is talking about the believers who are on "the path of righteousness" and not those who hear but are "on the wayside" of which the devil comes and takes the word from their heart to prevent them from believing and becoming/being saved. This is just one of the reasons that I have been confused by the NIV. I would also like to add that Jesus Christ is the only BEGOTTEN son of God. In the NIV it reads that he is the one and only son of God but Adam is also referred to as a son of God in Luke 3:38. Christians are referred to as "sons of God".
@Larry
If Joseph was the biological father of Jesus then Jesus would have been born with Adam's sinful nature which was passed to every human being. He would have been born a sinner and then would not have been able to be the sacrifice for the sins of others, as He would have had to die for his own sin. Clarify - we are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners. Born sinners. No one has to teach us to lie, disobey our parents, lust, or steal. We do those things because it is our nature. Hence, the biological Father of Jesus Christ is God, not Joseph. I'm in agreement with Mas on this point.
(This is my respond to Joe's Luke Chapter 7 comment on 9/03/2013, 11:27am):
In Luke 3:21-22 it is true that John himself baptized Jesus. Therefore John knew who Jesus was. But during the time when Jesus did the healing in the city of "Nain", John the baptist wasn't there. It was only the multitude of people who followed Jesus and his disciples that witnessed the healing in that city. Because of great marvel, the people of that city glorified Jesus saying, "A great prophet has risen up among us". When the rumor in the city of "Nain" went throughout "Judea" where John was, naturally, he had to confirm if it was the same person he baptized in the river of Jordan. So he sent his two disciples to ask Jesus.
The Holy Spirit is what we call a possessive adjective. There's only one way of saying a possessive adjective in the Old Testament times. The Spirit of the Lord. The Spirit of God. The spirit of Elijah. The day of the Lord. But, there are two ways of saying the same thing in the Greek, that is: the Spirit of the Lord or the Lord's spirit. The Spirit of God or God's spirit. The spirit of Elijah just Elijah's spirit. The day of the Lord or the Lord's Day. When it comes to gender there are two genders, masculine and feminine. There are there no neuter gender. However, in English, there are three genders. Let's look at a sripture. Matthew 16:18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter on this rock I will build my Church the forces of Hades will not overpower it." Most people are not able to read the Greek so I will call attention to a Spanish version. If you look into the equivalent Spanish version it will say in the last part of verse "y las puertas del Hades no prevaleceran contra ella." That means "The gates of Hell will not prevail against her." the same thing happens in the Greek. The church takes on a feminine ending.the The translators change all the feminine and masculine endings on any neuter gender that they knew were inanimate objects to "it." However, when they came to the Holy Spirit they left the gender the same and capitalize the word Holy Spirit. Luke 3:22 says, "John saw God's Spirit descending like a dove and resting up in Jesus." Matthew 3:11 says, "I baptize you with water but one who is more powerful than I is coming and he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." You don't want to be baptized with a person but you want to be baptized with the power and your spiritual essence of that person: the spirit and power of Almighty God. Denounce the doctrine of the Trinity. It is false doctrine. It is polytheism. I have been to Bible College and was taught this doctrine of the Trinity, but the Bible does not teach it. So, I dumped it.
Chapter 3 is about
1) sorrendering to the spirit by hearkening unto John (Gods) invitaion and take a practical step to get regenerated as soldier, tax collectors and richmen wer advised.
2) Ax is laid to the root of trees indicating that all behaviour shall be rewarded; negative and whichever will not add up to God shall be purnished
3) John was purnished for saying the truth-
4) Jesus was announced and commissioned by the Holy Spirit.
In Luke's lineage of Jesus, the words "which was the son" are ADDED IN facilitating words to help you understand. In the original 1611 King James, the words are bracketed and subscript sized. In the original Greek, they are not there. It simply uses the "genitive of" and the family name... i.e. "of Jesse, of Obed."
@Mas,
Let's agree on 1 thing first: Regarding the birth of Jesus, God arranged every detail according to His wishes. If (the big word IF) God wanted it to be as I said in my previous post, He certainly had the power to do so. If He did, perhaps that's why Joseph is never referred to as "the step-father of Jesus", nor do you find reference to "the step-brothers of Jesus" in the Bible. And, finally, this would have been compassionate to Joseph, a quality of God which we see displayed throughout the Bible.
@Larry,
The words “as was supposed” are under round brackets to show they are explaining or clarifying the sentence, to make it more understandable. The fact is that the seed that impregnated Mary did not come from Joseph, nor from any other man; it was by the power of God, it was God’s creation, God’s mystery; and that secret was known by Joseph himself, Mary and a couple more believers. But the whole community in which they were living did not know that, because they were not part of God’s secrecy. So they believed Jesus was the son of Joseph. That’s why the words “as was supposed” came along; meaning “as was commonly believed”, “as was commonly thought”, “as people knew”. And that belief is found in many other places in the New Testament. The community knew Jesus as the son of Joseph, yet that was not biologically the case. I hope this helps. God bless you.
What does "being (AS WAS SUPPOSED) the son of Joseph" mean? Does it mean that God in his infinite wisdom and abilities found a method for Mary to be virgin, and yet for Joseph to be the biological father of Jesus? Is such thing possible today via medical procedure? If so, then why couldn't God have done the same or similar thing?

Jesus is the 62th generation of Adam. These verses are showing the history of approximately 5000 years. But science says there has been living things on earth from several million of years. What’s true? I’m a believer of Jesus, please answer me.
If God and Jesus both always existed and are co-equal, then it would make no sense for the Bible to confusingly speak of God and Jesus in terms of a relationship between a father and his son. For what would we think of about ANY father and his son? If it weren't for the father, the son would not exist. Jesus is not God; he is exactly as the Bible describes him - the Son “OF” God. The word "son" principally is regarded in the Bible as "offspring" and in Genesis we read that Adam was produced by God. Interestingly, Adam and Jesus even shared the same description: "son of God", ( Luke 3:38). While the Father is always found in the Bible to be called "God", the phrase "God the Son" is never found. Further, if the Son really was God, then why would he call the Father "the only true God"? ( John 17:1-3). Jesus is God's "only-begotten" son; the only being directly created by God, ( John 1:18). Revelation 3:14 says that Jesus is "the Beginning of the creation of God", NASB. Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus is "the FIRSTBORN of all creation". Micah 5:2 says that Jesus' “ORIGIN” is from of old, from “ancient days” – RSV (cf. JB, NEB, REB, NAB, NIV, AT, Mo, NRSV, NJB, Byington, and Young's). Origin: "a coming into existence" - Webster's New World Dictionary, 1973. Therefore, because of the Bible's explanations of this, the designations "Father" and "Son" when attributed to God and Jesus make sense.
@Chuck,
1. The term holy ghost and holy spirit are interchangeable in the scriptures ( Luke 3:22; Luke 4:1);
2. This is one reason why people who have had bodily limbs removed still feel as if their limbs are still with them after removal of a limb;
3. The holy ghost goes to heaven after a person is deceased for a born again believer, and the unholy ghost for an unbeliever goes to hell ( Luke 16:22, 23).
If you believe in Jesus and what the bible says, then do not overlook science. Science is good but science is also used to cover the truth.
Personally I do not believe about "million2x years" the earth was made. They stated that to connect to their evolution theory.
No aliens, no evolution, no big bang, no man travelled away from earth, etc.
People created that stories do not believe in God, else, it will contradict their stories.
