Which is it? We have also a more sure word of prophecy or So we have the prophetic word made more sure, I cannot tell since I am not a greek scholar, But I do know which one makes more sense to me, and I do appreciate that the American Standard version indicates that the words so and made are supplied suggesting to me that even the translators are not that sure. I feel it is very significant that Peter s experience at the transfiguration did not sustain him during the events of the crucifixion. . Because of his faulty understanding of prophecy Peter denied Jesus. Nicodemus on the other hand remembered the words of Jesus, the son of man must be lifted up and boldly came forward. The words of Jesus to his disciples I am telling you before it comes to pass so that when it does occur, you may believe that I am He, came true for Nicodemus. But even though the disciples on the road to Emmaus had heard that Jesus was raised from the dead, they were still deeply depressed because of a faulty understand of prophecy. So Jesus hid his identity until after he gave them a through bible study on prophecy. Luke 24:13-25. Previously Jesus taught that an understanding of prophecy will protect believers from the overwhelming deception of false teachers and false Christs who will work great sings and wonders. Our safety is in the word of God, not miracles. Matthew 24 Mark 13, Revelation 13.

Acts 2:38 is the plan of Salvation. As stated by Jesus in John 3:5 also Luke 24:47 and Matt 28:19. Jesus said in "His Name" not in the title, the trinity concept, formula was formed by the nicea council and the catholic church. Only when the Name of Jesus is applied is there remission of sins. The power is in the Blood of Jesus. The trinity doctrine was created as a way to unite all religions, and those who rejected it were put to death. Nobody in the Early Church ever applied the titles at baptism, they applied the Name of Jesus. The Name of the Son is not son. The Name of Jesus is no father. The Name of Jesus is Jesus. The Name of the son is Jesus. At the Name of Jesus shall every knee bow. Not titles. Baptism only saves when the Name of Jesus is applied. Otherwise you only get wet. All through the book of Acts they either Baptized in the Name of the Lord or in the Name of the Lord Jesus or Lord Jesus Christ. John 8:24-27 'He spoke of the father. John 1:1-14 Jesus is God manifested in the flesh. Emmanuel God with us. Deut 6:4 One God. Not A Trinity. Ephes 4:5 One Lord One Faith One Baptism.

The Bible don 't say v13 two men on the road to emmaus, I beleve v18 it was Cleopas and his wife. They were not disciples.

When Jesus took the bread, and blessed it, the eyes of the disciples were opened, and they knew it is the Lord. After that Jesus vanished from their site. Then they said, did not our hearts burn within us, as He opened with us the scriptures. O how I wish we could have been there! Happy Resurrection Day everyone, for He is risen just as He said.
  • Lilian on Luke 24 - 10 years ago
Jesus is the resurrection of life even if we are died we still have life. Jesus is truly risen from the dead because he is the Son of the Living God that our Holy Father had promised that his Son Jesus Christ will sit beside our Father. Jesus recieved and crowned because of his perfect obedience to the Father. There is no other above name is Jesus. We must be thankful to Jesus for the blood he shed for us in order for us to be saved and have life in abundance. Praised God and Jesus loves you

Luke 24:6 is probably one of my favorite verses in the Bible. We must go to the previous verse and find the message "why seek ye the living among the dead and then they remind them something that Jesus Himself spoke to them repeatedly. Remember what He said. The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day arise.

Throughout the Old and New Testament both you find the mention of angels. Never are men to worship angels for there is only One worthy of worship. Most times they take on the form of men when dealing with man as seen here. Other times they aid the redeemed of Christ. It states that their clothing was shining. It seems that in every instance that men came into the presence of an angel it struck fear in their hearts as we see in the next verse.
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 10 years ago
When Peter quotes Joel in verse 21 neither he nor Joel, at this point, knew the things involved in a Blood atonement for sinners, applied to the soul by a spiritual circumcision Col 2:11-12 . Paul wasn 't saved yet so the mystery wasn 't revealed yet see Eph chapter 3. Repentance and remission of sins Luke 24:47 is known to them but only in the context of John 's baptism cf. Mk 1:4, Acts 2:38. When Peter is in Cornelius ' hime, he is quite startled to learn that REMISSION OF SINS can be obtained by belief alone see Acts 10:45. This shows that a thing can be there without being known, and that the time of revelation of truth has little to do with the ORIGIN of truth. Acts 2:38 contradicts church age doctrine revealed to the apostle Paul EPH 3 . You are saved today by putting your faith and trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ. The gospel or good news of the Church Age is in 1 Cor 15:1-4 with no water baptism mentioned.

Just a lesser version of Matthew 28:19 .... Still Acts 2:38 .... It took me reading Acts 2:38 , hundreds of times before I was able to receive it with all my heart!... It was taught to me by the same Holy Spirit that Peter the Apostle was empowered with on the day of Pentecost .... Something to ponder
  • Mike D on Luke 24:39 - 10 years ago
It 's been said that the only thing in heaven that is man made is the scares in the body of Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the clearest declaration that Jesus is LORD. Romans 1:4 states and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Here Jesus is standing in the presence of his disciples and others, not in spirit form but in human form where they could touch, him talk to him, watch him eat. This would transform their lives to where they would go to their deaths confessing the Lordship of Jesus. The Christian faith stands on the truth of the resurrection. I Cor:15:13, Now if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is not Christ risen, vs. 14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Without the resurrection there is no hope.

What a statement. I believe the Bible teaches the sovereignty of God and that Salvation is of the LORD. John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him. I believe the salvation of a person s much the same way. A man or woman could have all knowledge of the Bible and miss Jesus. When a person meets Jesus, truly their eyes are open. He is no longer a religious person from the past or the God up stairs. It is a new birth and your eyes are wide open!
  • Mike D on Luke 24:19 - 11 years ago
Jesus truly was a Prophet, however He was Priest and King. They missed His deity and His mission. The old testament does show Christ as a reigning King, and that is completed at the cross when He said "It Is Finished ". The full effect of this will be seen at the Great white throne judgment. The Jews were looking for a Redeemer but they missed the message of the old testament. Luke 24:26 states ,ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his Glory. In other words there was no short cut, the cross was necessary for Redemption. Jesus could have set them free politically from the Roman oppression but God 's plan was much grander. The whole message of Old and New Testament is the redemption of man for a heavenly kingdom not a mere earthly one. This redemption would last for eternity!

I can remember as a new Christian only being familiar with the new testament I wondered about the usefulness of the old testament. As you begin to read the old testament you soon realize the Bible is a whole entity, and you understand cant the new testament without a clear understanding of the old, especially when it comes to the person of Christ and the prophecies concerning Him. I think of Genesis, 3: 15 where we find the first promise after the fall of a redeemer, or Genesis 3:21 where God provides the first blood sacrifice for man. In Genesis we see Abraham ready to slay Isaac his only son and it reads God will provide himself a lamb. When you visit the new testament we see John the Baptist saying Behold the lamb of God John 1:36, that this is God 's Lamb to take away the sins of the world. All through the old testament we see the suffering Messiah. A simple reading of Psalms 22 and you see Jesus on the cross 22:16 they pierced my hands and my feet. Some of the very conversations of this chapter were recorded in the Gospels 22:1 My God My God why hast thou forsaken me. Or 22vs 8. Then you move to Isaiah 53, He was wounded for our transgressions he was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon him. This is only a fraction of the things that Jesus must of told these two men as they walked to Emmaus.

  • Jacques on Luke 24 - 11 years ago
Jesus answered them with two words and a question mark: "What Things? " Many times your blessings are disguised. Jesus wanted to find why they were more mindful of his suffering more. Jesus said O fools don 't you know when they put stripes on my back cancer can 't hold you. Suffering these things in Victory before you have the Victory. You gotta be Strong enough to wait for the Victory. Suffer Well and when you suffer shake it off. When something is taken stolen from you say "I came in this world naked and I 'll return the same way. " Someone gotta lie on you. Quit politicing if they don 't like you they don 't like The God you serve. These things have to be fulfilled. II Corinthians 4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory Jesus minimized His suffering. What things? I couldn 't have what I do unless I went through. If my life means your Deliverance, comeon with it. Im willing to go through so you can get Deliverance.

God blessed and sanctified the Sabbath Gen. 2:1-3 and kept the Sabbath after the completion of creation. No other day in the Bible was blessed or sanctified by God. You will not find it through out the Bible. The Bible says in Daniel 7:25, man will think to change time and laws. Read it in its entirety. Days were not named in the Bible, they were numbered 1st day, 2nd day, 3rd day so forth and so on . Days of the week are names of pagan gods, look up how the days of the week names originated. Also Jesus rested in the tomb on the Sabbath and rose the first day of the week. Luke 24:1 Hebrews 4:1-8 speaks of entering into a rest, a rest which is the seventh-day and He never changed. Man has made Sunday the day of rest, because Jesus rose the first day of the week which they call it resurrection Sunday. This isn 't justified by the Word of God.

Did you ever think why the stone was rolled away. Later on in this very chapter we see Jesus talking to the two from Emmaus and it states he vanished out of their sight, and as you read a little further Jesus appears in the room with the eleven disciples and the rest. The stone rolled away was for our benefit so we could look in. He is risen indeed.
  • Mike D on Luke 24:5 - 11 years ago
I find this verse as one of my favorites in the Bible. Here are two angles giving testimony to our risen Lord. No other religion can make the claim that their leader or founder of their religion has risen and then take you to an empty tomb an show you. Go to any religion and ask them where is your savior. Men have come and gone as they will in the future and will lead men astray however if they are still living it 's only a matter of time and you can visit their tomb. 1 Cor:15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain, ye are yet in your sins. vs 19 goes on to say if in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
  • Mike D on Luke 24:37 - 11 years ago
Other than the ones Jesus raised from the dead this was the first resurrection that ever occurred. Those he raised from the dead would ultimately die again. In Jesus case he died once for all. He rose in bodily form. He ate with them, they handled him. He was flesh and bone. A definition of a spirit must be that it doesn 't have flesh and bone. Luke says they were terrified and frightened, well I guess I would have been too.
  • Mike D on Luke 24:45 - 11 years ago
verse 45 is a great doctrinal truth on understanding Scripture. A man may be a genius having all knowledge of the things of this world and completely miss the understanding of Scripture. Keep in mind that eleven in this room spent 3 years with the very Son of God and they missed it. Verse 45 states Jesus opened their understanding , that they might understand.1 Cor:2:14 states that the natural man, or better unsaved man, receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, that is the things of God, because they are spiritually discerned, or understood. When ever you see an attack on the Bible it is a clear declaration the person or persons trying to debunk it is not a Christian. They will always set themselves up as some authority reducing the Bible to men written literature at best.2 Timothy3:16 states all Scripture is given by inspiration of God. No wiggle room there. It is God breathed. I like what the prophet Jeremiah said in chapter 8:9, the wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken, lo they have rejected the Word of the Lord and what wisdom is in them?
