Banks have probably been around a very long time, because people had coins as currency then and needed a place to securely store it so it wasn't robbed.
  • Bob on Luke 19 - 5 years ago
Verse 23 says why did you not put my money in the 'bank'. Did they have ATMs too?

Maryanne. This is a parable which is a earthly story with a heavenly meaning. Jesus is saying everyone is given one life. What are we doing with it? Are we keeping it to ourselves - in which case we gain nothing- or are we living for God and gaining spiritual rewards. It has nothing to do with men killing men

43 For the days SHALL come upon thee, that thine enemies shall 'Cast a Trench' about thee, and 'Compass Thee round', and 'Keep Thee IN' 'on Every Side'; and SHALL 'Lay Thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. (Wow! Wow! Wow!)
  • Joe on Luke 19 - 6 years ago
Steve, in your latest quote, I think you have the wrong book - Should be John, not Luke. Does not take anything away from the meaning.

Verse 8~Zacchaeus showed that he was truly repentant by trying his back to right the wrong he had committed. True repentance involves us not only changing our thinking but also trying to correct any wrongs if we can.
  • Eutychus on John 2 - 7 years ago
Jesus built His church, which today is the sole Temple of God. He was incensed enough to drive the buyers and sellers ( Luke 19:45) out of the temple of that day...how must he view buying and selling in his church, the Temple of our day? We pay preachers, who are selling what they know to us. "And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought"
  • Eutychus on Luke 19 - 7 years ago
"he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee." Jesus defines that precept in Matthew."But I say unto you that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words, thou shalt be condemned." Matt. 12:36-37. James defines the 'tongue' problem in James 3:1-12. Be careful how you speak.

I agree with Servant of God's thoughts. We must not be deceived by religious and political leaders whose principles go contrary to biblical principles. Too many people today turn a blind eye to ungodly actions of our leaders. Matthew 7:20 states, by their fruits ye shall know them. And Proverbs 16:18 declares that pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. Take heed.
  • Servant of God on Luke 19 - 7 years ago
Zac. was the chief politician of his day. But he was just, by his own confession and was worthy that Jesus should come into his house. Fast forward and what is the message of the chief politian? Shameful! Yet does the church support him. Jesus would not, I assure you for he knew the heart of man by his words and deeds.this is important as our nation is in jeopardy for the abundance of lies today

Thank U G.Goodman for your truthful comment u are so right God sent his Son Jesus to die for us but we must want to be saved u see Jesus cannot make us be saved because he gave us free will from the beginning before we were born Jesus knew those that would come when he call them to himself.u see no one can come to Jesus unless he draw them then he have to open your spiritual ears.

Who knows parables? He spoke thus that only the elect understand. The nobleman is Jesus, Moses, the Prophets, ect whom God has sent. The nobleman has received his kingdom and returns to impart. The ten servants are the tribes of Israel who migrated to the four corners. Those who hate the nobleman are slayed and denied eternity. There are profitable servants and unprofitable . his reward is..

"And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house." The Lord Jesus knows who His friends are no matter what others think of us, and speak evil behind His back. What is it our business to judge another man's servant? We all must come to Jesus to be saved, and will each of us be judged by Jesus.

The "Glad Tidings Age" is probably referring to the period from the Lord's first coming in the flesh, in which He gave up Himself for us on the cross, and then rose from the dead; to the end of the age at His second coming in power and great glory. We are commissioned by Him to be His witnesses and ambassadors of the Good News of our salvation; we are not to be entangled in the things of this life

Answering the reference to the comment titled "DENNIS FOR VERSE 11".
By which gospel are you talking about when you say 'Gospel age' ? We are in the age of grace. Something to chew on: Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel...let him be accursed. Rev 14:6 And I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel..."

To Bud: the "current" Bible no longer says it. Many changes. Read Amos 8:11-12. We are in these times. Noah led the animals 2x2, I know this to be true. If the word is not written in your heart....the word should be shew not slay in luke 19:27. Jesus never condoned murder. Refer to Mattew 5:44 "love thine enemies ". That part hasn't changed yet. We are in scary times.

Jesus himself is the word of God. He who loves him should keep his commandments. Our faith comes only by hearing the word of God without his words it's impossible to please him. Church is a groom of the bride which is in heaven. If Jesus found us in the church praising, thanking him we will surely receive his blessing. Church is the house of prayer. On Jesus is the great Jehova Jireh the provider amen

Holy and perfect Father, our LORD our SAVIOUR, You are faithful to save those who trust in You and true to warn those who reject Your salvation! Amen. Psalms 37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. 1 Peter 4:17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
  • Dennis on Luke 19:11 - 9 years ago
The biblical reference to a thousand years in Rev 20 is NOT teaching a literal thousand year period that is to take place here on this earth. The whole book of Revelation is referring to the day in which we all live, the entire Gospel Age, however long that may be. What John wrote about, using symbolical language to describe the things which Christ shows him, is what is transpiring all around us. This understanding of the book is called Amillennialism, or a Realized Millennium. Not two comings, nor two judgments, nor a 1,000 yr reign followed by eternity. Rather Christ comes and raises the dead at the "last day." The righteous go into eternal life. The wicked are cast into outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
