This verse is about obedience then and for us today; "Whatsoever He saith, do it."
This is one of the most profound verses in scripture. It's believed to be the first public statement from His mother's lips in support of His diety. It's not about the wine as much as it is about obedience. Thank you.

Charlotte; Wine has always what it is! Haven't you read how Noah got drunk? Wine is not a sin, nor any drink, in and of itself; but the drunkard is the sinner: if someone can drink with a good conscience toward God and his neighbor, and not use it for debauchery and excess! As Saints of Jesus we are not forbidden to drink wine or liquor of any kind, if it be with moderation and respect for others.

I believe the wine today is very different from wine in Jesus' day. Back in Jesus day there was no refrigeration system so wine and water was there was to drink. Wine in Jesus' day was not fermented as it is today. Trying to use the Bible to justify consuming alcoholic beverages to get drunk is just wrong/sin.

S Green; If you are scandalized by drinking wine, and if YOU get drunk that easy and are afraid of losing control, then by all means, DON'T DO IT, don't drink wine! But the Scriptures don't say that Jesus turned water into fruit juice, but into wine, "which maketh glad the heart of man." It was a miracle of blessing of the poor representing the NEW WINE of the Glad Tidings, to start His Ministry!

The same Greek word "oikos" is used for grapes and grape juice wine vinegar and alcoholic wine and are all translated as "wine". We know that Jesus never sinned and that drunkeness is a sin therefore we can conclude that the kind of wine that Jesus miraculously made was not an alcoholic kind. John 2:24 But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, Jesus knows our hearts.

Practical Christianity does take care for the natural comforts of this life. We are not made of stone, and the LORD never intended us to think, either of ourselves or others, in that way. In Matthew 25 for example, what will separate the saved from the damned will be HOW WE TOOK CARE OF ONE ANOTHER in natural and practical ways! Its not always to "spiritualize" the things; but love is spiritual!

1 Timothy 3:8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre. We all know that bring drunk is a sin. 1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities. Wine is good if sick. The wine is the symbol of Jesus's blood.

Matthew 9:32 As they went out, behold, they brought to him a dumb man possessed with a devil. It is easy for the Devil to advantage of the Weak. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. We must BELIEVE that Jesus is God and only One.

At that last meal, Jesus Christ told His disciples to eat bread and drink wine as symbols of His body and blood. Luke 22:20 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. The Lord's table, wine for blood, bread for body. Give Thanks

"THIS first miracle!" The first that Jesus does in showing His power is to show that God brings the best for making glad the heart of man; the good wine! gallons and gallons of the best wine! The Lord is not penny-pinching with this young couple on the day of the gladness of their heart; and He loves to give happiness and comfort for good and wholesome things, that He has made for us to enjoy.

John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory and his disciples believed on him. Jesus turn water into good wine, this is the first miracle. Wine was a symbol of HIS blood.

V25, At passover many believed in the Son of Man, the name they gave Jesus. Jesus was among Jews that were celebrating their traditions. They believe in a Savior, a man, not a Son of God beyond mortal accomplishments. Jesus preformed Miracles man can not. Jesus did not commit to their traditions or beliefs because he knows that foundation was formed by man not God. They love tradition not truth.

Insight; I like what you wrote about the "carrying of pots being a man's job;" I never really heard it like that before. When I read it, I think it was the Lord telling Mary, His mother, that now the time had come for Him to officially be about the business He was sent to do from the Father; and that He was no longer to be treated like "her son" to tell Him what to do. I hope we can discuss more.

Do not read V4 in a negative way! Jesus was preparing to show the world his miracles

Jesus speaking to his Mother that way was not rude or disrespectful,, it was a sign of His sole submission to carry out His Fathers Plan.

As Jesus turned water into wine at Cana, so He is capable of turning our heart of stone into an abode where God can live.

Jesus speaking to His mother in that way, was a mild rebuff to her meddling and trying to tell Him what to do; as if He were still in their house. The Eternal Son of God and Saviour coming in flesh into the world, and commencing His service for our redemption, does not need His mother to tell Him what to do! Now it was time for Mary and the rest of the family to follow Him, by obedience of faith.

I think Jesus was protecting Mary by not calling her, "Mother." He knew what was coming and didn't want her to be hurt or possibly used to interfere with His Father's business. The story begins saying, "And the third day" meaning what? Maybe it was on the 3rd day of the marriage, out of wine, He was called because Mary told them He could make more wine. Obvious a lot had already been drank.

When Jesus spoke to His mother He was speaking of His Crucifixion. His body would be pressed and He would release the Spirit. The six pots represent man. Water is our authority. This world has drained us. Filling the pots is The Gospel. We accept Christ then when life draws out from us we release Spirit and not water. This makes us peculiar to the world.
