    JESUS did not WEPT because LAZARUS was DEAD but because HIS DISCIPLES and the rest lost their faith. In fact, during the time that Lazarus was yet sick, JESUS told Martha, "This sickness is NOT unto DEATH, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby" ( John 11:4). Jesus did not wept because He knows that Lazarus was not dead that's why He said to His disciples, "Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep" ( John 11:11). Furthermore, when Jesus and the disciples got at the place where Lazarus' body was laid, He said to Martha, "Thy brother shall rise again" ( John 11:23). It was only after Jesus saw Mary and the Jews WEEPING that he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, then after that He wept ( John 11:33-35). Much more after He heard some of them said, "Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died", therefore again JESUS groaning in himself cometh to the grave ( John 11:37-38). That was why when He talked the Father he said, "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that THEY MAY BELIEVE that thou hast sent me" ( John 11:41-42). THEREFORE: It was the unbelief of His disciples and the rest that made him WEPT.

    Verse 35; Jesus wept. Jesus wept because of the compassion that he had for the ones he loved namely Martha and Mary. This shows his human side
    in that the sadness of his friends moves him to tears. Not unlike us when we find ourselves crying at the funeral of our friend's loved ones.

    To: Mark Hudson: ...to the FOURTH argument regarding the statement of JESUS, he who believes in ME though he die will live, and shall never die... the EXACT and CORRECT statement that was written is this, "Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he "WERE DEAD", yet "SHALL HE LIVE": And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die" ( John 11:25-26)... meaning, "For if ye live "AFTER THE FLESH", ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do "MORTIFY THE DEEDS" of the body, ye shall live ( Romans 8:13)... and you shall NOT FULFIL THE LUST of the flesh ( Galatians 5:16)... THEREFORE ...you WERE DEAD because you LIVED AFTER THE FLESH and then when you believed Jesus Christ that's the time when you SHALL NEVER DIE... because from then on you do not walk after the flesh anymore but after the Spirit... and that is when you do mortify the deeds of the body... and to MORTIFY the deeds of the body is to MORTIFY our members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness,inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also WALKED SOME TIME, when ye LIVED IN THEM ( Colossians 3:5).
  • Rosalinasaysonkotapay on John 11 - 12 years ago
    Our Lord Jesus Christ mentioned a word to the people standing by that he is the resurrection of the dead so He asked the Father to hear him ( John 41-42) because some do not believe that Lazarus could be risen after being dead for four days ( John 11:39).

    Jesus States: Believe, Do you believe? Why do you doubt? If you believe... Believe me when I tell you... Believe in Me and Live... He that believeth in Me... John 11:40, (KJV), Jesus saith unto her, "Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the Glory Of God?" Believe thou?

    Re: In regard to rosalina's and Albert Sholam's comment of John ch: 5. If I may offer I think both are correct. It is said in the Bible but not exactly sure where, that some will be saved by His Name alone (Jesus), and another, those missing the flames of hell just barely, if we see the many intricacies in us, how much more is there in God? Remember, His Grace, and what He Has established will succeed, and He Knows those who are His... My own opinion is that we all still sin, as Paul says in Romans, wanting to do good, but then he does what he does not want, it's realizing the sin, as Paul states, how wretched am I. I think it's a matter of as quickly as possible, seeing, confessing, and returning to the table in conversing and discerning in Him by communication in order that we may remain in Christ. Jesus stated, he who believes in Me though he die will live, and he that (lives), and believes in Me shall never die, John 11: 25-26, I suggest to you if God is Love, and His Ways are not our ways, then it really is His Grace, As God states, I Will have compassion in whom I have compassion on, we can't comprehend that Love, It's Mercy... Take it, recieve it, live it, and as you do, Glorify His Name...

    (This is my response to Rev. Autrey's comment dated 8/11/2013 at 7:01pm on John Chapter 11):

    I highly agree to your understanding about WHO our Lord Jesus Christ really is and WHO he was before he came into this world. I hope that more people will read the bible and receive knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of God, so that they would have the chance to know the TRUTH and WHY our Lord Jesus Christ must die for his nation.

    I believe Jesus wept, Because of The evil in the world
  • Rev. Autrey on John 11 - 12 years ago
    ( John 11:51) "This prophecy that Jesus should die for the entire nation ..." Jesus could die for the sins of the world because he, himself, was God: "... and the Word was God." As the old church song goes, "Alas! and did my Savior bleed? Snd did my Sovreign die?"

    What I am saying is, God knew that he was the only one who qualified to do this. Man could not do it because he was, himself, sinful. And no angel could do it because angels or incapable of loving us. Only God is love. And since there was no one greater than himself to appeal to, God decided within himself that it had to be him.

    He made himself into a man, died and rose again, and thereby redeemed the human race. All creation looks at this event and wonders how it could be so. But it is so. And God is the only one qualified to do it.

    The term "Son of God," then, is only the way God choose to identify himself when he was born as a human!

    Hello Grace, Amen! You shall not die but live & give God the glory for the things he has done. I was moved by your testimony of praise. All sickness is not unto death, but that the glory of God may be revealed ( John 11:4) This reminds me a sermon that was preached at a Church that I attended in the past, the title of the message was..." After This God Gets The Glory" and that is what I believe with you and for you. Also I heard in my spirit as I'm noting this ( Psalm 119:49-50) Read it and just get happy, and of course ( Isaiah 53:1-5) and believe the report of the Lord! Amen He sent His Word and healed them ( Psalm 107:20). Can't wait for your Praise report to come through, so THANK YOU JESUS RIGHT NOW FOR HEALING MY SISTER RIGHT NOW!! BY YOUR STRIPES SHE IS ALREADY HEALED!!! To the glory of GOD!! HALLELUJAH!!

    The twelve hours is the window of time in which to work because there is an equal number of hours of darkness in which no one can work.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Job 14:14 - 12 years ago
    Job asked this question 4000 years ago, “if a man dies shall he live again?” The Lord Jesus answered it in John 11:25, 26; I am the resurrection, and the life, he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. So just like Job, we too must wait all the days of our appointed time, until our change shall come. John 5:25, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. So thank God that Jesus destroyed the last enemy death on the cross, and has brought immortality to light. Now because Jesus lives, we too shall live.

    Happy Resurrection Day.
    Do you know that resurrection is not a place, thing, event or a time.
    Resurrection is a person and his name is JESUS!
    JOHN 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believe in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
    If you received grace , salvation, hope, faith then you need to receive that part that will resurrected you unto a new life.

    @Araxi Mangou,
    Jesus wept because He was moved with compassion as recorded in John 11:33. Consider a situation where your child had cried sorrowfully for a need that you can meet but she never imagined that Dad is able to help! As a loving father you're likely to be moved to tears seeing your daughter in such a sorrowful condition over something you can provide. Most likely, your wife's tears may flow freely while apologising to your child. Remember also that at that time, Jesus was in the flesh that knows pains!

    This chapter is encouraging to my life. Sometimes we ask God: why bad things happen? We think we are so unlucky and if God was there with us, then why did it happen? But here we see that He saw it even before it happened. Let us give Glory to God for everything that happens in our lives, He knows all about all of them.
  • Araxi Mangou on John 11 - 12 years ago
    John 11:35 says Jesus wept. It is a touching scene to see Lazarus' sisters and the neighbours crying. Of course Jesus didn't cry out of compassion. I have never really understood why he wept there, and yet he didn't weep when thousands of people were sitting hungry after his teaching. In both cases He knew what He was going to do afterwards. Can someone explain?

    It is so moving to read in verse 35 that Jesus wept.. His miracles are many and never ending the same goes for his teachings. His word keeps growing in our hearts in our minds and inside our spirit.

    It is very touching. Jesus wept because of the way the world was, how some betrayed him, and didn't believe in him.

    John 11 contains the verses that should be paramount in the hearts of all Christians everywhere. John 11: 25-26 says it all. Glory to God and salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • Jenny on John 11:35 - 12 years ago
    I believe Jesus wept also because of their unbelief in God. Jesus knew that through the power of God, this man would have been okay, but since they didn't understand, Jesus wept.

    I will see if I can shed some light on the parable of the vineyard (verses 1 to 16).
    1. All parables have dual applications (doctrinal and spiritual);
    2. The man is Jesus;
    3. Householder is owner of property;
    4. Early in morning is first thing;
    5. Laborers are the 12 disciples;
    6. Vineyard is mission field (world);
    7. Penny is the compensation for accepting your new position (child of God) in the mission field (world);
    8. Hours is daytime hours ( John 11:9);
    9. Watch is nighttime hours ( Mark 13:34-37);
    10. In Jewish times, third hours is 09 am, six hours is noon, 11th hour is 5 pm, 6 pm begins the new day on Jewish clock. Remember God used Jews to write the bible.
    From early morning to the 11th hour encompasses the church age (approximately 2000 years). When a person receives Jesus as saviour and becomes a child of God regardless if they converted in the 1st century or just before the rapture. All saints in Christ receive equal justification, holy spirit, inheritance, and opportunity for rewards; all under grace and mercy by Jesus Christ. There are certain promises God is giving out equally to all saints of God, regardless how long a person has been saved and what time in church history they lived.
