It useful information, which helps one to know where to go in relationship: 1. With God 2. With our fellow human beings, with whom we are ever clashing forr seeing things differently from them.

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

Verse 20 shows that we should be concerned about the faith of others and that we can help others to even save their relationship and lives with God if we help them turn back from their bad ways.

I think James is one of the most powerful books of the Bible, it is a perfect example of how we are to be just like Jesus who never offended with his speech but so many of us do and in read- ing James I realize how careful we must be to watch what we say even when we think no one else can hear us.
  • Samuel Mwadziwe on James 5 - 9 years ago
james5:7-11 urges us to have the patience of Christ who has been patient with us. He will surely reward us at right time. If not now then at least in heaven.

Yes. This is normal but the situation of Paul and Silas is different. They choose to sing instead of praying when they were afflicted.God will want us to go beyond this scripture and praise him in season and out of season. Shalom.
  • Dahlia Daniels on James 5 - 9 years ago
This chapter is basically telling us not to get hung up on the wrong doings and especially greed their is no good in this mean what you say and don't be switching up on your word this is not of GOD PRAY for one another and encourage each other with positiveness don't let negativeness over ride you confess your faults at all times it helps lift the burdens
  • Mike on James 5:16 - 9 years ago
I believe the KJV is correct here and the word used should have been faults. We are to confess our sins to God and repent and he will forgive us because of the finished work of Christ on Calvary. But if we do a wrong to a brother or sister in Christ, we should also go to them and admit our wrongdoing faults and try to restore our relationship with that believer. We should also be willing to humble ourselves and admit our faults to one another...but confess your sins to God, who is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins!
  • Thomas on James 5:16 - 9 years ago
God forgives sins. A fault is some personal thorn in us. The person who is tangled in such needs help. But the help must be carefully chosen. The fervent prayer of the righteous avails much. The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous and His ears are open to their prayers. comp. 1 Pet. 3:12 .
  • Brianna on James 5:12 - 10 years ago
The Bible makes things real simple, but sometimes we have to make it complicated. Jehovah God encourages us to be truthful, and direct. Imagine how easier life would be if we were direct instead of all this indirect, passive aggressive behavior so common today. Also, Yes I do agree with you Mike, If your yes is yes, and no is no, then what more do we need to swear on something?
  • Lilian on James 5 - 10 years ago
Our God is forgiving God. If we repent ourselves and Sin No More, God already forget our Sins as he will never condemned us. God 's love is unmeasurable love, his mercies endureth forever. For God is love we must obey his commandments to love one another as he loves us. Thanks to Jesus for his precious blood that shed for us. Because of our Fathers love we are saved and have life in abundance. Thanks be to God.. Amen

Find one in your body of believers that you can depend upon : To trust in you confiding of your faults : to help you overcome : to be able to give an account of your progress To confess to if you have wronged them and to get it right before each other so that your prayers be not hindered and have that free flow to God. I do not believe that I am to confess every sin to my fellow believers :
  • Terri on James 5:16 - 10 years ago
Prayer is the up lifting of all sins we need to confess our sins to our lord and ask the persons we offended forgiveness if we want to move on and have eternal life and freedom to serve the Lord without any condemning yourself to eternal damnation

Walk the talk. Chapter 5 demands practical things, faithfulness to the labourers, walking straight and trusting in God.
  • R. Simpson on James 5 - 10 years ago
To Insight 777 's comment, rain in the context has nothing to do with your comment but uses the illustration of a man that had faith and what he did with it. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. Context and doctrine is not everything but it is if you to clearly understand the Bible. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. James 1:5 God bless my friend.

The fifth chapter of the book of James covers a lot of areas for the believers some of the things in particular deals with daddy believers labors have been mised used and money has been kept back from the righteous of labors of people. And some people have put their trust in their gold and silver their finances their bank account . And some of us have became sick depressed and stressed out. But we must trust him and lean on him and knowledge and trust him Proverbs 3: 5,6,7 verse read it is a war with n us an WW3 to come.
  • Insight 777 on James 5 - 10 years ago
Verse 17, Rain requires certain things... heat, water and air circulation. For it not to rain on the earth, since the earth has oceans, then there has to be no heat. What will occur for the entire earth to have no rain is a complete world ice age. This may be Elias prophecy for a nuclear ice age at the end of time. Or the word rain is symbolic and means the loss of an element needed for survival. This could be the loss of belief in Jesus as Savior. I think here rain is symbolic perhaps representing the last 3.5 years of the tribulation which will be a time of conflict before Jesus returns to end it. There could be a nuclear ice age as a result of WW3 that signals Jesus to return to earth to save the Christians that are still alive at that time. Man as a specie will not survive a nuclear ice age, it is an end of days event.
  • Peter on James 5 - 10 years ago
The devil and his band believes and trembles n still does evil. How different are we if we believe and do nothing? Overcoming of trials gives us rewards of remaining faithful in HIM who calls us.

Most people commenting on this verse fail to recognize the most fundamental premise of Biblical study application, and that is to "rightly divide the word of truth " per 2 Timothy 2:15. The Epistle Of James could not, for the most part, doctrinally apply to Christians in this present age of grace, because it implies salvation either by works or validated by them. It actually fits in better applied to believers in The Tribulation, see Revelation 12:17, 14 12 especially since it is addressed to Jewish believers, James 1:1. We find no where in the 13 certain Pauline Epistles, excluding Hebrews to appease those who have certain doubts, Paul The Apostle Of The Gentiles, see Romans 11:13, instructing us to anoint anyone for any reason. But I suppose if we were to grant that we could should anoint the sick, we should first observe a time of self examination, confession of personal faults these would be areas of inclined weaknesses, NOT SINS , and of course fervent effectual prayer. The only prayer that will save a lost Hell-bound sinner, is the one were he she admits their pitiful condition, and by faith receives The Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour. It has two distinct sides, repentance towards God for what you are and have done, and then faith in The Lord Jesus Christ for who He is and what He has done! See Acts 20:21. God speed.
