Canaan the son of Kham Ham was the first black man with Hamatic language like that of Mizraim Khemet , Ethiopia and Somalia. All these children came from Ham and thus spoke Hamatic language of which the Hebrew language came. The sons of Canaan were the first to populate the land of Palastine not the recent Percian a.k.a Arabs

Hello Lisa Even though the wives are not mentioned by name, they are mentioned before the flood as wives and that they entered the Ark with Noah and his sons. Genesis 7 7 "And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons ' wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood ". So after the flood waters were gone then those eight people produced children. Their children produced children and so forth. I do not know why the women are not mentioned but they were there. However, as time went forward there were more and more women mentioned in the Bible and by name.

Hello Lois Small and Chris Simply put, seeming on how there was only Adam and Eve in the beginning then we must deduce that Eve had girl children as well. By the time Shem, Ham, and Japheth were old enough to get married. There were daughters, granddaughters, nieces, aunts, sisters, and cousins who were girls, so there were plenty of women to choose from. We do not know who they married because the Bible does not mention their names or what rank they held. Now this is not saying that everyone can go out and marry their sister or closest relatives. God is the only one who can change the blood of anyone. Even though this was allowed under this time it is not allowed now, because in many cases the dangers of certain diseases and birth defects are just to great. We can deduce, however, after the population began to build back up, he then laid down the law concerning marriage and family, Leviticus Chapter 18.

As others have asked wherefrom the mothers of these children? The wives of Ham, Shem and so on?
  • Lois small on Genesis 10:6 - 10 years ago
I want to know who were the mothers of Ham, Cush, and Canaan
  • Mary Jo Evans on Genesis 10 - 11 years ago
Clayton, I 'm sure someone has told you by now, it says the "earth " was divided, it says "for in his days was the earth divided ", speaking of Pelegs days.
  • Janice B Daniels on Genesis 10 - 11 years ago
Lisa you may have this anwer by now, but I am just reading the comments. In Gen. 6 or 7

18 But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.

Later God instruct them to go and multiply.

What are the women names that gave birth to all the sons?
  • Lisa on Genesis 10 - 11 years ago
I see sons listed but no daughters. If the earth of totally destroyed, there had to be women to reproduce. I don't understand.
  • Kait on Genesis 10:32 - 11 years ago
It says that is how "the nations divided in the earth after the flood." It doesn't say they have to stay that way... It also doesn't say anything about Ham's generation being cursed. I agree with Lori and J.R.

  • Clayton on Genesis 10:25 - 12 years ago
In this passage, it said his days on earth were divided? What do they mean? Divided how and between what or where?
  • Esther on Genesis 10 - 12 years ago
Does anyone know where I can find more of the story of Nimrod, Semiramis in the bible? I remember reading somewhere that one of Noah's sons chopped off Nimrod's head for marrying his mother. Very interesting subject especially since a lot of countries paganisms' are rooted in this very first pagan religion of Babylon.
  • Lori on Genesis 10 - 12 years ago
Divided but not to separate or to curse them-please see Youtube southwest ministries coast to coast. The fall of Lucifer and its implications by Dr. David Ingraham, God divided the 70 nations according to the 70 grandchildren of Noah-purposefully dividing them racially, geographically, etc. When there is only one nation, much, if not everything, can be taken away, restricted, denied, dominated, etc. God did this so we might overcome language barriers and love one another with respect to our differences.
  • Keith on Genesis 10 - 13 years ago
@Ian the world was divided not like the division which happened after confusion( division of languages) this division simply refers to the geographic distibution of various tribes
  • J.R. on Genesis 10 - 13 years ago
    @ Mariafernanda

You need to re-read the bible, seriously. Ham's generations were NOT cursed, all it says is that Caanan's lineage would be cursed. Also, Caanan was the land that was promised, and that area was in the middle east, so......there goes your idea about them being African. That is why although the Caananites are of Hametic descent, they shared a very similar shemitic language (ie: how hebrew sounds like arabic, with the hard koph and the glutteral *sp* stop)
  • Annie Mckenzie on Genesis 10 - 13 years ago
    Divide-to seperate; to stay apart.
  • Mariafernanda on Genesis 10:32 - 13 years ago
Divide- to seperate; to stay apart. Therefore, the Bible says the generations of Japheth have to divide from the generations of Shem or Ham. Whites and hispanics come from the generation of Japheth. Shem's generation are the middle easterns and asians. Ham's generation, the cursed people, consists of African natives. Therefore, the Bible DOES SAY to divide from the decendants of the other two generations.

  • Butch on Genesis 10 - 14 years ago
ian, it just states what happens eventually. this isnt necessarily in chronological order. since this is more about lineages than it is about the actual story of the tower of babel. i just read an earlier chapter where it talks about sodom and gomorrah that the Lord destroyed, but its mentioned before the actual chapter where sodom and gomorrah are destroyed.
  • Ian on Genesis 10 - 14 years ago
Twice the text refers to the world being divided up "after his/their tongues", yet this is before the account of the Tower of Babel (Ch12) which declares that all the world spoke one language. Can anyone clarify please?
  • RALPH M. WATERS on Genesis 10 - 14 years ago
