1 Corinthians 15:1-4 "...I declare unto you the GOSPEL...By which also ye are saved...How that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. :)
*Because of what God says in His Word, the Bible, I believe*:
that man is saved from eternal punishment and is justified freely by grace through faith in the sacrificially shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary
( Romans 3:21-26, Ephesians 2:8-9, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
that Salvation is a completely undeserved free gift bestowed upon all who simply believe ( Romans 5:12-21, 4:5).
during this dispensation of grace, every person who believes the gospel of the grace of God ( Acts 20:24) is eternally saved from God's wrath.
All saved people during the dispensation of grace are eternally saved and complete in Christ ( Romans 5:1, Colossians 2:10).
Salvation is the work of God and not the work of man. Therefore, it is impossible for anyone who has trusted in Christ to ever be lost again. AND ...We are sealed by the Holy Spirit and are not our own -- we are bought with a price
( Colossians 3:1-4, Romans 8:29-39, Ephesians 1:13-14, 4:30, 1Corinthians 6:19-20).
Space here is running low. I hope to share more in another comment if allowed.
As the Apostle Paul repeatedly said:
" Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ " ... Amen.
Jesus was preparing His disciples for the things which were about to come, His crucifixion, death, resurrection, and His ascension up to heaven to prepare a place for us until He comes back at His second coming.
Verse 32, Jesus says they will scatter, every man to his own way. There will come a time when Jesus is crucified, and the horror of that sight, and the disappointment and discouragement that will come upon them, they will all scatter! Jesus didn't say it was wrong. He said this is what you're going to do. Every man to his own, that is, his own house or place. They will scatter and go back to their own homes discouraged and disheartened. They are going to leave Him up on the cross to die alone, and yet Jesus says I am not alone because the Father is with me.
Verse 33, Jesus says these things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. Jesus is telling them what to expect after He leaves. But He tells them that they will overcome, as He overcame. He says that in Him, they would have peace.
Peace is not a tranquil feeling that God gives us to make us feel good. Our peace is in Christ. In Ephesians 2:14, Paul says about the Jew and the Gentile who have been separated that in Christ, He is our peace. Peace is a person!
He is our peace who has made both one, Jew and Gentile, and has broken down the middle wall of partition between us and brought us all into one. In the Greek text, EIRENE for peace means to unite, to become one.
For me to find my peace in Christ, it means that in all of my situations I lineup with Him, I unite with Him, and I keep my focus on Him. He will be my peace, my unity with Him.
Paul said in 1 Cor. 1:30-31 that Christ is our sanctification, Christ is our righteousness. I'm clothed in His righteousness. I've not gained any for myself. He went on to say Christ is our wisdom. Now we're told that Christ is our peace!
Jesus' prophecy that the pride of the Jewish nation, the temple, would be destroyed inspired the most intense rejection of His teachings. (See Matthew 24:1, 2.) In John 2:19, Jesus says, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Of course, Jesus is speaking of rebuilding a temple-not of stone and nails, but of living stones ( 1 Peter 2:5). Yet many refused to grasp this teaching ( John 2:20, 21). They even mocked Jesus on the cross regarding His prophecy ( Matthew 27:40).
Yet when Jesus died, the veil in the earthly temple ripped in two from the top to bottom, signifying that the temple no longer held meaning. A temple for sacrifice today would be as useless as it was then, and it would not be the house of God.
The New Testament is replete with the idea that the temple is the body of Jesus. Ephesians 2:19-22 says, "Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God: And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit." (See also 1 Peter 2:5.)
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:5
Even after God provides all this clear evidence that His temple is a spiritual one, many Christians are waiting for the Jews to receive a construction permit to rebuild a physical temple on the site where a Muslim mosque now sits. However, there is no prophecy, promise, or commandment in the Bible that says the physical temple would ever be rebuilt after the Romans razed it nearly 2,000 years ago.
I greet you in name Our Lord Jesus Christ. Hope you're well.
I am a new Christian, I gave my life to Our Lord nearly 2 years ago and it's been the best thing I have ever done. I've had joy and peace in my life since then.
I was baptised many years ago, but because of my immaturity I went back to sin.
The answer to your question " how to get closer to The Messiah " First of all the bible says " For whoever shall call in the name of the Lord shall be saved" Rom 10:13
Believe, that God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Then you have to be baptised.
Acts 2:38 Peter said, Repent, and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of our sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
A few more scriptures for you to look at:
Ephesians 2:8-9
2 Timothy 2:15
1 John 1:9
Romans 6:23
1 John 5:13
Mark 16:16
Romans 10:9-10
Hope these scriptures will help and give you a good start to getting closer to Jesus Christ our Saviour.
God Bless you, and I will pray Trevor that you will get the wisdom & knowledge for God's Words.
Again, due to space, I'll answer your other questions on John 14:15, Luke 12:9, and Romans 12:2 next.
John says, in John 1:13, believers "were born, not from blood, nor from the will of the flesh, nor from the will of man, but from God." Therefore, from Scripture, a human being cannot save him/herself.I can't keep myself saved, so I have to trust God's power to keep me. John 10:27-29 is one of the most beautiful pieces of scripture that shows me that I am secure in Christ.
Also, Jude states in his doxology in Verse 24, "But to the one being able to keep you without stumbling and to set you before His glory blameless in exultation." Paul emphasized the keeping power of God's Spirit Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 4:30.
Sorry this is long, but salvation is very important to me. One more post, I promise!
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by Grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justified the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
John 3:16, John 3:18, John 3:36, etc.
It's great to live right and God rewards His children abundantly, but Christ alone saves.
Galatians 5:4. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.
Mrs Ezeomedo please.
