Discuss Colossians 3 Page 3

  • S Spencer - In Reply on Galatians 6 - 2 years ago
    Hi Jim.

We get that question a lot.

That question is the source of a lot of debates and division for years.

For me here is a couple of reasons why I no longer like to answer those"original" posts directly.

    1) In a way it is like a person asking "if you commit suicide will you go to Heaven?" I am cautious to give an answer to that: afraid of what one might do with that information.

( It can prompt one to continue in sin.)

    2) Some ask that question rhetorically. ( Looking for a debate )

You asked for "scripture" on once saved always saved ".Please Forgive me for asking is that a rhetorical question?

However, To be cautious in my answer I would say examine by what means where you saved and your answer lies there.

I can not loose my salvation because I have a great Shepherd who layed down his life for me and calls me by name!! "He said he will never say to me I never knew you!" And he said "no man or myself can pluck me out of his hand!

    John 10:28-29.

This same Shepherd said he will NEVER leave or forsake me and he would abide with me forever.

    Hebrews 13:5.

    John 14:16.

He will NEVER leave or forsake me and he would abide with me forever!!

    Now notice John 14:17.

" Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; FOR HE DWELLETH WITH YOU, AND

( SHALL BE IN YOU )

He shall be in me and he shall never leave or forsake me!

In order for us who are "TRULY" saved to loose our salvation; Christ would have to be able to loose his salvation.

    Colossians 3:3.

Examine ourselves and by what means you were saved and the answer lies there.

    God bless.

    Sister Barbara:

    Is she mixed up:

Colossians 1:27 ...this mystery ..... CHRIST IN YOU ....

Christ CAME THE SECOND TIME at pentecost; in SPIRIT, as the Holy Ghost.

Hebrews 9:28 So, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many (first coming, as flesh), and unto them that look for him (as a thief in the night) he shall appear the SECOND TIME (unseen like a thief, as the Holy Ghost) without SIN UNTO SALVATION.

Philippians 2:13 For it is GOD (the life of the body) that WORKETH in you (his body) both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.

Revelation 20:6 Blesses and HOLY (Christ in you) is he (the body of Christ) that hath part in the FIRST RESURRECTION ..

John 11:25 ....I am THE RESURRECTION, and the LIFE, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall HE LIVE.

    CHRIST IN YOU.

1 John 2:27 The anointing (THE LIFE) in you ....... will teach you ALL THINGS .......

Colossians 3:3 For ye are DEAD, and your LIFE is HID with Christ in God.

Christ blood COVERS our sins, to REPENT means to change your way of thinking, or your beliefs.

It takes lots of studying God's word and lots of repenting in the way, and things, we believe.

    God Bless you.

    QUESTION?

Ephesians 4:4 ONE Body, ONE Spirit ......

Ephesians 4:5 ONE Lord, ONE Faith, ONE Baptism,

Ephesians 4:6 ONE God and Father of ALL .....

    What is this ONE?

Is it physical water, or LIVING WATER?

1 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God IN HIM ARE YEA ....

    CAN YOU PLEASE GOD?

Matthew 19:21 ......go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor ......

Acts 2:41 ....and were baptised ....this whole chapter is about the outpouring of the Holy ghost ....so it it batpism of physical water of living water?

Acts 2:45 ....and sold their possessions and goods and parted them to all men .....

If it's water baptism, and you are trying to please God why not go and sell all you possessions; also, and part them to men.

Coming to TRUTH is what pleases God.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God that worketh in you both to will and to do his pleasure.

The life in you is Christ, the faith in you is Christ's faith, the works are Christ's works, the baptism in you is the baptism of Christ (the Holy Ghost):

YOU ARE THE BODY OF CHRIST.

    John 14:6 .....I AM .... LIFE ......

    John 11:25 .....I AM ....... the RESURRECTION .....

Revelation 20:6 Blesses and HOLY is he that hath part in the first RESURRECTION ....

    TRUTH! ....will set you free!

You died on the cross; Christ was resurrected and gave YOU HIS LIFE.

Colossians 3:3 For you are dead, and your life is HID IN CHRIST with GOD.

    ONE ....ONE .....ONE .....ONE .....ONE

1 Corinthians 15:28 .....that God may be all (ONE) in all (ONE).

    God Bless ALL.

I've understood it to be similar to Simon called Peter: Matthew 4:18, Matthew 10:2, different than Acts 8:9, & Luke, Acts 10:18, Acts 13:1, Acts 13:9, Acts 14:2, notice in Acts, the same book, there are multiple names referenced even a wind, Acts 27:14, Acts 27:8, Hebrews 11:18,

Matthew 1:6 Jesus called Christ, John 4:25, Luke 6:15, John 1:42, John 11:16, not Colossians 4:11,

Romans 2:17, Romans 7:3, same supposed writer as Acts , also Romans 9:26

    Matthew 26:14, Luke 23:33, John 19:13, John 19:17, Acts 6:9, Revelation 11:8,

    Revelation 12:9,

Luke 2:4, Luke 8:2, John 21:2, different than Acts 9:11,

    Acts 1:23, Acts 9:36,

    Colossians 3:15, 1John 3:1,

Hopefully these are all helpful in your study

    Dear Ben.

The greek for "love" is "agape". This is the word used throughout the greek version of the Gospel, even in verses where the KGV translation uses the word "charity" ie as in 1 Corinthians 13, 2 Timothy 3:10, Colossians 3:14 and many other.

The greek for "charity" (love, compassion, mercy, sympathy for fellow humans, people) is " philanthropia". It is only used in Titus 3:4 "But after that the "philanthropia" (kindness and love toward man) of God our saviour appeared,.."

"Koridos"?. Maybe you mean "charitos", pronounced "kha-ree-tos". It means "of grace, due to grace. The Greek for "grace" is "charis", it comes from a root word that means "gift, gifting". That is why we say that we are saved by God's grace, means salvation is a gift from God. The word "charisma" comes from that word. Charisma in greek means gift, a given talent, grace (same in English I think).

    Proverbs Chapter 6

16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

Colossians 3:8 - But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.thee.

Matthew 6:24 - No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and money.

Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord

    Jill,

Eternal life is only by the grace of God the Father given through the life death, and resurrection of God's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. We only have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, we are justified by faith without the deeds of the law, but by faith and obedience of the only begotten Son, as He was obedient to the Father Hebrews 5:5-9 Matthew 26:38-42

Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

When I was young growing up many many years ago, I loved my Dad who has been gone many years now. I knew if I did wrong I would have to face my Dad. Was my fear the punishment I would receive, when I was real young maybe, but later the admiration and love I had for him I feared letting him down, the source of security and love he gave me. We should have a sense of awe and respect for the majesty of God the Father.

In Proverbs 1:7 are we being obedient? Is fear being scared? No! We have His promise, He will never leave us or forsake us, Hebrews 13:5. But with the knowledge that God can be frightening it should give us motivation as sinners to say no to the temptations and riches of this world, for our faith and hope is in the next world to be with our God the Father and Jesus our Lord.

Colossians 3:12-14 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

Obedience, not our righteousness which is of the law, but Gods righteousness, a gift through faith in Jesus Christ.

    God bless,

I love the fact that God covered every precious word.

    1 Corinthians 4:4

For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

I prayed and God gave me these verses that I may grow in them.

    1 Corinthians 16:14

Let all your things be done with charity.

    1 Corinthians 13:4

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

    1 Corinthians 13:5

    Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

    1 Corinthians 13:6

    Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

    Colossians 3:14

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

    Exodus 14:14

The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.

Grace unto you and peace from our Father in Heaven and The Lord Jesus Christ.

    Romans 7:1 Read on

    Romans 7:14

For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

    Romans 7:15

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

    Romans 7:16

If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

    Romans 7:17

Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

    Romans 7:18

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

    Romans 7:19

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

    Romans 7:20

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

    Romans 7:21

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

    Romans 7:22

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

    Romans 7:23

But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

    Romans 7:24

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

    Romans 7:25

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

    1 Peter 4:1

    Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

    1 Peter 4:2

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

    Colossians 3:1

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

    2 Corinthians 5:20

Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
  • S Spencer - In Reply - 3 years ago
The ministry of reconciliation is given to believers.

    Notice who's addressed.

    Ephesians 1:1.

    Colossians 1:2.

    Also here.

2 Corinthians 5:10-21. For WE must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

And that he died for all, that THEY which live should not henceforth live unto THEMSELVES, BUT UNTO HIM WHICH DIED FOR THEM, and rose again.

Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

Therefore "IF" ANY MAN BE IN CHRIST, HE IS A NEW CREATURE: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    And all things are of God, who hath reconciled US to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to US THE MINISTRY OF RECONCILIATION;

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto US the word of reconciliation.

Now then WE are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

For he hath made him to be sin for US, who knew no sin; that WE might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Notice this continues on to the next chapter.

    2 Corinthians 6:1-13.

    Here's a contrast in

    Ephesians 2:1.

    Colossians 3:5-6.

    2 Corinthians 6:14-18.

    2 groups, saved and unsaved.

    Mister David,

Yes, the Gentiles have been grafted into same Tree of Life. But, buying land, or any other material things of this earth, should be a moot point, and of no concern, based on how I read the scripture.

    Colossians 3:1-2

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

As I read the scriptures, a Christian (Christ Follower) should not be concerning themselves anyway, with accumulating land/material things here on this earth, but should rather be concentrating and working toward storing up our treasures in heaven.

    God Bless.

What is Salvation? "Asked by Lala."

    "Answer"

    Salvation is life!

Salvation is a new creation in you performed by God.

Salvation is when "GOD TRANSFORM YOU" after you truly believing and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ. You have been transformed from dead to life. we're not perfect but we are transformed.

Here's a few old testament scripture that gives a description of salvation and how it's performed.

Deuteronomy 30:6. And the LORD thy God will CIRCUMCISE thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live. "Here you see the lord cutting away filthy flesh from your heart."

vs. 8. " This is what God causes you to do after cutting away the "flesh".

"And thou shalt return and obey the voice of the LORD, and do all his commandments which I command thee this day."

    Jeremiah 24:7.

    Jeremiah 31:33-34.

    Jeremiah 32:38-40.

"I like vs 40! Eternal Security found in the old testament!

( And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me)

    Ezekiel 11:19.

Ezekiel 36:25. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I CLEANSE YOU.

Ezekiel 36:26-27. "Salvation is a cleansing!"

Salvation is a transformation by Gods spirit in you, and that comes by way of Jesus.

    New Testament references.

    Ephesians 2:1-10.

    Hi Darrel.

I would like to share my thoughts.

    First I would like to establish this;

In 2 Peter 1:14. Peter says "Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me."

The tabernacle is the body which the spirit resides in. Peter still exists, The only thing seems to be going anywhere is Peters body.

Now I would like to share a few verses.

    John 14:20.

    John 14:23.

    John 11:25-26.

John 17:22-23. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

I IN THEM, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. "I IN THEM"

Colossians 3:3-4. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. ( You are already in Christ. ) When you die Christ will be fully manifested to you and in you. No longer hidden.

Galatians 2:20. Paul says he is crucified with Christ, nevertheless he lives. ( Christ dies no more, neither does Paul. ) This is why Paul says absent of the body, present with the Lord. There is no where for the spirit to go! It's not the spirit of the world that lives in a Christian, It's Christ spirit that lives in you.

    1 Corinthians 15:44-49.

This sinful body we inherited from the 1st Adam returns to the Earth.

The 2nd Adam is a life giving spirit, one that we was baptized into, and the same everlasting spirit that resides in you.

The spirit will be made perfect and the body returns to Earth.

    God bless.

Dear "Somefair" you have right the pure of heart shall see God. Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Exodus 33:20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.

(Here we are reminded of God's Holiness again).

Colossians 3:3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. Think what Jesus has done for us? Jesus loves us all, and i love u all in Christ.

Genesis 19:9And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest.

(We should always think about what is best for our neighbor).

    Romans 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Amen

The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. ( 1 Tim. 6:10). Paul himself; in fact was a tentmaker; who encouraged others to make things with their hands ( Acts 18:3). He also apparently paid for food during his travels ( 2 Thess. 3:8). Those who used to steal were given similar admonitions to work and be productive. ( Eph. 4:28).

There is; of course nothing wrong for those actively pursuing work in the ministry to be supported and fed ( Luke 10:7). We should be discerning as to the financial accountability of those we support; however and aware of those attracted to "filthy lucre" ( Titus 1:11). Such behavior obviously is characteristic of those "prosperity preachers" whose mouth betrays their true intentions (out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh-( Luke 6:45). Such resources as "Charity Navigator" are helpful to demonstrate what percentages of funds are used directly for ministry purposes. The church itself; as a Body should be supporting one another as the early church; at least in some ways meeting each others needs; as well as contributing financially or using their talents for proclaiming the Good News and fulfilling the Great Commission.

We shouldn't neglect verses for laypeople to "work heartily unto the Lord."( Colossians 3:23-24). We are representing our King; much as Daniel served the king of Babylon daily during the exile ( Daniel 1:5). This was much the same pattern as with Joseph in Egypt. We are even to be faithful with "unrighteous mammon" ( Luke 16:10-11). If we can't be trusted with earthly things; how can we be trusted with heavenly treasure? There are plenty of warnings to avoid amassing large amounts of gold and silver ( Deut 17:17) which God instructed Solomon (along with many wives). Money itself; therefore is an inanimate object; but as they say if "money talks" or gets a life of it's own in our lives then it is clear that it has become an idol. Matthew 6:3 is a good read on the subject..

Hi all dear, now you all talk a lot again. When referring to Timothy about the treatment of church members, it does not agree with paying taxes to the Emperor / King / State. Romans 13 1 Timothy 6:10-12 ALvin Kamberi is right, and all. But The 10 commandments state the importance of what we should worship and honor. God Alone. God must have everything. Colossians 3:12-17 we have no reason to revel and wallow in the riches of the world. Not even Jesus did, though He could fully enjoy all the benefits of the world. He lived soberly and always worshiped God. Gethsemane as described in Luke 22:44 Then He strained so that he sweated blood.

But we must work with our hands

    Mark 12:17

Oh, as I wish we Christians could take care of each other, have daily conversations, have daily testimonies, have daily care for each other. Living in a collective. The model was and lives as in the time of the Acts of the Apostles. We have this web then which is a little skin of the real life we should have had :) So I thank you all every day. The apostles sold everything they had and gave to the needy. New members were added daily! Acts 2

:D In English we say woman and man. I hold that all men stand before God in truth as a Spirit with Him.

Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

This is an important strategist in how we should live. At that time, it was probably not men's work and women's work that we like and talk about today. We did not come to the hospital to give birth. Even then, they were equal. But then of course the evil came! Take care of yourself, and do not accept what is free, it can be dangerous.

ohh the space again :D, Jesus loves u all.

    Hey Phil,

This is a question that comes up and you will receive different understandings. Are we to say who is right and who is wrong? No. When we study, we must be careful and do not attempt to make the biblical narrative conform to some preconceived framework we bring to it.

If there were people before Adam and Eve, does it change anything? Do we overlook scripture that infers that God did create other people before Adam and Eve? Do we overlook the fowl which the water brought forth on day five doesn't match the fowl God formed out of the ground after He formed Adam out of the dust of the ground when Adam was alone?

Same with the beast of the field formed out of the ground after Adam when the beast of the earth was on day six before man, male and female? Could Adam and Eve be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and have dominion over every living thing that moveth upon the earth that God had created when they were in the garden of Eden?

If we consider, God told them to be fruitful and multiply and have dominion over the earth after they were taken out of the garden, could God have said after day six everything was very good? After the flood, all are descendants of Adam and Eve, so Eve is the mother of all living. The line that leads us the the last Adam Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 15:45-47 In this, Jesus our Lord said to be the second man, the last Adam, my understanding goes to 1 John 3:8. We must keep in mind who sinned first and is the father of lies John.8:44. The first Adams purpose was more than starting mankind but starting the plan of salvation that is in the second man, the last Adam Jesus Christ, we take off the old man and put on the new man, Colossians 3:8-10.

May the Holy Spirit bring you to your understanding. I pray I do not confuse with my different understanding.

    God bless,

We must be careful in how we regard our service to the Lord. As we learn to walk and trust in the Lord God through His word, remember that all good things originate from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Before we start to expect things are due us because of what we do, or what position we hold: God always knows best. Like the old time tv series "Father knows Best." I just dated myself - LOL

Baruch felt he was due better things instead of being dragged around the country side with the remnant that remained in Jerusalem. After all he was the personal scribe to the prophet. He knew the prophecies given to be true and will come to pass. He just thought he should be treated better.

We as believers of Christ the Lord are not entitled to anything. Galatians 2: 20; Colossians 3: 1-3 We have the privilege to seek the wisdom of the Lord God and worship at His feet. We know what the Lord is fully capable of doing and giving. 2 Cor 10: 5 By filtering our thoughts in the Word of God, I can rejoice in Him, be at peace, and have comfort even though we are going through this current Pandemic, Ukraine - Russian war, supply hick ups; soaring gas/oil prices. Philippians 4: 6-10

No matter what happens we can be assured of our salvation in Christ Jesus if we believe and trust in the Gospel. Luke 10: 20; 1 John 5: 11-15. We have confidence in the Lord.

The only solution before us is the salvation of the leaders of world. 1 Timothy 2: 1-4 "...that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." We must continue to carry out God's will for us. Matthew 28: 18-20.

May the peace of God shine on all on this forum. Know the Lord Jesus Christ, know Peace. No Lord Jesus Christ, no peace. Praying for all as we have the occasion to do so.

Praise His Holy name. March 10, 2022

Some of these Scriptures might help you, Gervis; these are more about the godly relationship & responsibilities one has to each other in the family and what a husband/father should expect when nurturing his family in the fear of God.

    Proverbs 15:20; Proverbs 22:6; 1 Corinthians 11:3; Ephesians 5:22-28,33; Ephesians 6:1-4; Colossians 3:18-21; Titus 2:2-8; 1 Peter 3:1-7.
