2 Timothy 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord MUST NOT STRIVE; but BE GENTLE unto all men, apt to teach, PATIENT, 25IN MEEKNESS instructing those that oppose themselves;
A Christian street evangelist was demonstrating outside a city amphitheater. He was part of a group of individuals heckling concert goers through a megaphone, calling them "whores," "sissies," and "Jezebels."
Taking the above into consideration, it does not appear that the two quotes are compatible by any rational standard.
There is a contingent of Christians, at least in name, who have arrived at a biblically skewed conclusion that the ministry of the Gospel of Christ Jesus includes harassing, denigrating, insulting, and otherwise badgering the lost. This attitude could not be further from our biblical calling.
The Bible provides precise instructions on how to conduct ourselves when occupied in the ministry of the Gospel: preaching, witnessing, and otherwise engaging with the lost. None of which includes calling them "whores," "sissies," and "Jezebels." The servant of the Lord must:
Not Strive
Be Gentle
Be Apt to Teach
Be Patient
In Meekness Instructing
Titus 3:2-3 To SPEAK EVIL OF NO MAN, to be NO BRAWLERS, but GENTLE, shewing all MEEKNESS unto all men. 3For WE OURSELVES ALSO were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy,
Would you have received the Gospel being harassed, denigrated, insulted, and badgered? It is reminiscent of the Inquisition, not the love and grace of God.
Philippians 1:27 Only LET YOUR CONVERSATION BE AS IT BECOMETH THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST that ye STAND FAST IN ONE SPIRIT, WITH ONE MIND STRIVING TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL;
To be of one mind, we all have to follow the same rules.
Colossians 3:14 And above all these things PUT ON CHARITY, which is the bond of perfectness.
James 2:8 IF YE FULFIL THE ROYAL LAW according to the scripture, Thou shalt LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF,...
I want to share with you why it is not only unwise but dangerous to blur the distinction between Paul's message and the twelve apostles. God gave Paul a unique dispensation of grace, revealing the "mystery" of the Body of Christ, a truth hidden until his ministry ( Ephesians 3:1-9; Colossians 1:25-27). When we blend his message with the kingdom program preached by Peter and the others, we risk corrupting the gospel of grace.
Peter preached to Israel, offering the promised kingdom upon national repentance and baptism ( Acts 2:38; 3:19). Paul preached justification by faith alone apart from works of the law ( Romans 3:28; Ephesians 2:8-9). To confuse these messages is to either add works to grace, or to remove Israel's kingdom promises. Paul warned that adding to his gospel of grace produces "another gospel" ( Galatians 1:6-9), and he pronounced a curse on anyone who preached such.
Blending also robs believers of assurance. If salvation depends partly on works, ordinances, or kingdom requirements, then we can never rest in the finished work of Christ. The beauty of Paul's message is that Christ did it all-our salvation is complete in Him ( Colossians 2:10). Mixing law and grace leaves Christians unstable, unsure if they have done enough, and strips the cross of its sufficiency.
Finally, confusion weakens the testimony of the Church. The Body of Christ is not Israel, nor is it inheriting an earthly kingdom. Our hope is heavenly ( Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:1-4). When we preach Israel's program as our own, we not only deny our identity but also cloud Israel's future promises, making God appear unfaithful.
For these reasons, we must carefully obey 2 Timothy 2:15: rightly divide the word of truth. Blending the programs corrupts the gospel, shakes assurance, and dishonors God's distinct plans.
If there is nothing to divide, why did Paul say to rightly divide the word of truth?
Father God, I lift Ashley to You as she carries new life. Calm her heart and mind, and deliver her from anger, pride, and striving for control. Replace her old ways with gentleness, patience, and love. Heal her from past wounds and renew her with a right spirit, that she may walk forward in peace and humility. Cover her and her baby with Your protection, and let Your Spirit bring rest and joy into her home.
"In place of anger, may she put on kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." ( Colossians 3:12)
The New Testament reveals that the Church, the Body of Christ, has a heavenly calling and destiny, distinct from Israel's earthly kingdom hope. While it doesn't say in one verse, "the Church is going to heaven," Paul's epistles clearly show that our citizenship, position, and eternal home are in heaven.
In Philippians 3:20, Paul says, "For our conversation (citizenship) is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour." This points directly to the believer's true home being heavenly, not earthly. Similarly, Colossians 3:1-2 tells believers to seek those things which are above, because Christ, who is our life, is there. Our focus is heavenly because that is where our eternal life and inheritance are secured.
Ephesians 2:6 explains that we are already spiritually "seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus," meaning our position in Christ is established in heaven, even though we currently live on earth. This aligns with 2 Corinthians 5:1, which promises that if our earthly body is dissolved, "we have a building of God eternal in the heavens." The believer looks forward to being clothed with a glorified, heavenly body.
At the rapture, described in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, the Church will be "caught up... to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." Since Christ is currently in heaven, and we will be forever with Him, this implies a heavenly destiny for the Church.
These scriptures collectively show that the Church is not promised a place in Israel's earthly kingdom, but rather has a heavenly inheritance, being part of a new creation in Christ. Paul's unique revelation of the mystery ( Eph. 3:1-11) includes this distinction. The Church is not waiting for a kingdom to come to earth, but for Christ to take us to where He is-in heaven.
Still it's not possible to mix the kingdom message meant for the 12 Tribes of Israel with the mystery message to the body of Christ the Church.
The Bible speaks for itself, no dictionary or man's concordance needed.
The apostle Paul is uniquely identified in Scripture as the chosen vessel through whom God revealed the mystery of the Body of Christ. In Romans 11:13, Paul declares, "I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office." Unlike the Twelve Apostles, who were sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel ( Matthew 10:5-6), Paul was sent by the risen, glorified Christ from heaven ( Acts 9:15; Galatians 1:11-12) to proclaim a new message-not the Gospel of the Kingdom, but the Gospel of the Grace of God ( Acts 20:24). Paul alone speaks of the "Church which is His Body" ( Ephesians 1:22-23), a new creation made up of both Jew and Gentile, united by faith and baptized by the Holy Spirit into one Body ( 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 2:14-16).
The Body of Christ was a mystery "kept secret since the world began" ( Romans 16:25) and not revealed until Paul. He was given this revelation by Christ directly ( Ephesians 3:1-9; Colossians 1:24-27) and is the only apostle who teaches its doctrines-such as salvation by grace through faith without works ( Ephesians 2:8-9), the heavenly position of believers ( Colossians 3:1-4), and the rapture of the Church ( 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Paul calls himself the "wise masterbuilder" who laid the foundation for this present dispensation of grace ( 1 Corinthians 3:10). The other apostles, including Peter, recognized Paul's distinct apostleship and agreed to confine their ministry to the circumcision, while Paul went to the Gentiles ( Galatians 2:7-9).
No other apostle is identified in Scripture as the apostle of the Body of Christ. Only Paul received the full revelation of the mystery, the doctrines, and the heavenly calling of the Church. Therefore, Paul stands alone as the God-appointed apostle to the Body of Christ.
Lord Jesus, You are the God of peace, unity, and new beginnings. I lift up my daughters to You: each walking through a huge life change, each carrying their own hopes, fears, and history. Would You come into their relationship like oil in the cracks, softening tension, healing old wounds, and making space for love to flow freely again? I decree it so and I thank You! Oh Jesus Christ, Protect their bond, Oh Lord, Let grace rise higher than anxiety, and empathy speak louder than past hurts. Teach them to see each other not through old memories, but through new mercy. I also lift up this precious baby on the way, and the wedding day. Cover the reception in peace. Let joy fill the room, not pressure. Let every little sound be met with love, not stress. Let the baby be a symbol of life moving forward, and not a point of fear or division. Surround my family with laughter, warmth, and unexpected ease. Let this wedding reception and wedding be a celebration of love in every form: marriage, motherhood, sisterhood. And let peace reign. In Jesus' Mighty and Powerful Name, Amen! Praise God!
I decree and declare and proclaim these verses over them and the whole situation: in Jesus Mighty Name:
Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Colossians 3:13-14
Bear with each other and forgive one another And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Psalm 133:1
How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!
Proverbs 31:26
She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
Psalm 127:3
Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
In Jesus Mighty Name it is done, Amen and Hallelujah!!!
now that i "know" christ's love Ephesians 2:19 Corinthians 3:4-7 and the whole book of Colossians
Shall we analyse?
Remember the song
Christ is the portrait of God - Colossians 1:15
Before he was born
He did justice and in himself he died
Supremacy and thrones are
They are yours - Colossians 1: 16-17
And that thread that broke
From my soul to God - Colossians 1:21
The holy blood sewed
Christ and his lines of love - Colossians 1: 20
And now a man made I
Can in man see God
Have peace, live, walk and be
Made me a friend in his pouring out - John 15:15
When we were targets of God's wrath now we have Peace with God - Romans 5:1
I have a doubt that you probably theologians (formal or deep self-taught), show me if there is something I missed.
to go to church or not to go to church?
1 Thessalonians 5:11, 1 Peter 4:9, Psalms 133:1-3, Galatians 5:13. all these chapters do not speak of the church that is of my generation, Hebrews 10:24-25 this verse speaks of the mutual congregation.
continuing Romans 12:10, Ephesians 4:32, Acts 2:41-47, 1 John 1:6-7, 2 Corinthians 13:11, 1 Peter 1:22, Colossians 3:16, Philippians 2:1-2, John 13:34, Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Psalm 55:14. I keep reading and re-reading Romans 12 and I wonder if it's in everyday life or gathered with the church.
Matthew 19 discusses the fact that anyone who wants to enter the Kingdom of Heaven must be as a child. In fact verse 10 states
10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11] [a]. Apparently some texts add Luke 19:10 after this about God seeking to save the lost. Causing one of them to stumble also is a severe warning in verse 6
6 "If anyone causes one of these little ones-those who believe in me-to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Some argue this can mean those who are babes in Christ rather than strictly children. I can see that as plausible; certainly consequences of causing someone to sin because of our own sin against them or leading them astray is a very scary thought.
Nonetheless we see other verses where the children come to Christ in 3 of the 4 Gospels. Children praising God comes from the concept of Psalm 8:2; we see this in Matthew 21:16; Matthew 11:25 and Luke 10:21 show "babes" having things revealed to them. Again whether it is babes in Christ ( 1 Cor. 3:1) or in the context of actual children; it is pretty clear children are the main focus here. Verses 8 and 9 also show how horrible hell is in regard to cutting feet or gouging our eyes out as being preferable.
I take this as literal truth; not that doing such a thing will keep us from sinning as there are always other ways that can be found; we don't see any scriptural evidence of anyone doing this but clearly hell is worse than any earthly sufferings and to be avoided at all costs. The main concept here is that any sinful lifestyle indicates an unrepentant heart; we need to put to death our members such as Colossians 3:5 indicates.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness
Seems to agree with the OT verse I gave you. God does not change. But He does work according to His own pleasure, will, and purpose in the OT, NT, and in the time from the ascension through the end of times.
Here are other relevant verses from the NT that speak of the wrath of God being upon the wicked. I think this is present tense from an English perspective, but the Greek may be different.
I think that God is always the same in every way. He is true to His attributes in the OT as well as the NT. And will continue to be true to Himself in this age.
Giannis, I stand by what I have shared with you because I believe that Scriptures teach that God both hates wicked sinners and also desires that many will turn to Him and be saved, but not all will do so because not all have been elected to salvation since before creation.
Ephesians 5:5-6
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Colossians 3:5-6
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ( James 3:17).
See Colossians 3:2 in regard to the mind of Christ along with Romans 8:16.
The unbeliever will go through life much as Solomon describes it in following animal type passions; and dying much in the same way ( Ecclesiastes 3:19). Nonetheless we are differed from animals as we have some concept of "eternity in our hearts" ( Ecclesiastes 3:11) and the believer as these verses show have the true light from God which guides the now living spiritual man to direct their actions.
Let us go through a few examples that are commonly seen which are NOT assurances of salvation
I can illustrate my point through a poem; hopefully not flagged but I think it better brings some of these concepts home.
I come from a native tongue not from some ragged slum (ok not the best rhyme) (racist)
I'm the pride and joy of my family 5th generation with my name on the tombstone (pride)
Outside our private home. (respecter of persons)
We made something of ourselves in this world; a grand reputation (guilt by association with family pride)
Put the fear of God in those heathen and reaped the harvest of our emancipation (superiority complex; conquest mindset)
I've got more titles than many famous statesmen (again pride in status making importance of man made titles like Pharisees)
In my heritage there are Bishops; Deacons and Knights of persuasion
And my endless good works are proof of my salvation. (the clincher; good works EARN our way into heaven)
How about them apples? Ok I seriously hope that everyone monitoring this page will bear with me; as I extract my pertinent meanings from this little deviation from the norm...as a little damage control I did a preemptive parenthetical commentary to point out the faults of this worldly mindset).
15And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Colossians 3:21 - Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
To provoke means to irritate. It has to do with punishing someone for something they didn't do just for the sake of punishing them. It's very frustrating to them, very irritating.
Colossians 4:3 - Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:
With praying also for us, that God would open to us a door of utterance, and door means a symbol of opportunity. He's praying for opportunity to speak. To speak what? To speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds, or in chains. He says I'm in prison for this very thing, to get an opportunity to speak the mysteries of Christ.
Colossians 3:15 - And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Notice that this all comes under put on the new life. If you're saved and Christ is in you, it's a matter of deciding what way you're going to go. Let the peace of God rule in your hearts. The word peace, EIRENE means to be united. The peace of Christ, and the peace of God, it just means to be at one with Him. When I'm under the influence of God's Spirit, the unity that's already existing flows from one believer to the other in one body. The next command: and be ye thankful. That's not a human practice. That also is a ministry of God's Spirit. It's part of the new life. Just put it on!
Colossians 3:16 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
All of this in Verse 16 is the same concepts that are found in Ephesians 5:18-21. Many of the teachings in Ephesians are also in Colossians. In Ephesians 5:18, Paul says be filled with the Spirit which produces certain characteristics.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; and there are three things that are produced by the word of God. And the word dwell means to make His home in your heart. Let the word of Christ make its home in you richly in all wisdom; by teaching, and these are called Modal Participles. By teaching, and by admonishing (warning) one another.
In psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. They used to use singing as a means of teaching. They would learn scriptures with music and would sing. But they would warn one another in singing of psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
Thirdly, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. It doesn't say with your lips and vocal cords. What the bible is saying is whether you sing out loud, or sing to the Lord privately, it must come from your heart.
Colossians 3:12 - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, and then he lists five things:
The first one is bowels of mercies. The Greeks always used the names of internal organs to express their deep affection and love. So, bowels of mercies would equal out to a heart of compassion. The word kindness is the word usefulness. Not all kindness is useful. Humbleness of mind is number three. Meekness basically means to be open and receptive to people. And then longsuffering means to be slow in human reaction to others as far as anger.
And then Verse 13 has two participles, which means these two are to be done at the same time as the others.
Colossians 3:13 - Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Forbearing one another, which is the word for tolerance. Be continually tolerating one another and be continually forgiving one another. How can I do that? Put on the new life. Christ is already there. You're complete in Him. It's a matter of turning to Him.
And then the command: if any man have a quarrel against anyone: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Forgive them. How can I forgive like Christ forgives? It's because I have Christ. It's Him in me that ministers through me to others.
Colossians 3:14 - And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
And above all these things, which literally in the Greek means add this to everything else. Put on charity, or agape, which is the bond of maturity, completeness. Put on love! And again, AGAPE is not a human action. Love is a fruit of God's Spirit.
Colossians 3:8 - But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
But now ye also put off all these; Anger, and that is a deep boiling anger. Wrath, which is a sudden outburst of anger. Malice, is general evil, just giving people a bad time. Blasphemy, and it is interesting that when this word is directed from human being to human being, it is translated slander. But when it's directed towards God it is called blasphemy. It's the same word and it has to do with slander.
And filthy communication from out of your mouth. You don't need to be rehabilitated. You just need to put it off. It's part of the old life.
Colossians 3:10 - And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
And that you have put on the new man, and that's the new regenerate man, which is renewed, and the word renewed means to acquire a new quality. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, Paul says we have become a new creation in Christ. The old things have passed away and all things have become new.
Which is renewed in knowledge, and the word knowledge means deep knowledge, thorough knowledge, after the image of him that created him: Our new man created in Christ! We have a new quality of life and a knowledge that other people do not get to know.
Colossians 3:2 - Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Again, continually set your affection. And the word affection has to do with the frame of mind. This is the disposition of the mind, the attitude, the approach to life. Have a frame of mind that is set on things above and not things on the earth. The explanation is given to us in Verses 3 and 4.
Colossians 3:5 - Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Interesting, it says mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth. Mortify means put to death. It means allow the members of your body and its desires to die. Stop trying to revive them. Stop trying to reach back in the old life. You're losing desire for those old things so let it die.
And he gives us a list of 5 things:
Fornication, which is sexual immorality. Uncleanness, which is all sexual impureness. Inordinate affection, which is physical passion. Evil concupiscence, which means evil mental desires. And covetousness, which we call greed. And the word covetousness literally in the Greek means the desire to have more. Being greedy and covetous is the desire to have more than what you have.
And notice what he calls it: which is idolatry: It's a form of worship and idolatry toward God to be greedy and have the desire to have more than what God has given you.
Colossians 3:7 - In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
In which you also walked some time (or literally once), when you lived in them, reminding them that they're now believers. They don't walk that way anymore. And so, he's telling them to put it off. There are two phrases that are used, to put on a coat, and to take off a coat. When he says put off, he means that. You got your old dirty clothes on again. Take the dirty clothes off and put the new life back on. It's as simple as that!
Colossians 2:14 - Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
The word handwriting means a hand written certificate of debt. The bible says that every person, as soon as they sin, they are indebted to God for the payment for that sin, which no one can pay. But He blotted it out, which was contrary to us, and He took it out of the way, He removed it. He removed the debt, nailing it to his cross;
That's a very interesting statement. You'll remember in Matthew 27:37 when Jesus was nailed on the cross, and this is true for every criminal, is that they would put a plaque above the person on the cross which would list their crimes.
And so that's what this phrase is making reference to, that all my offences were nailed to the cross, on that plaque if you would, all of my sins, and that Jesus died for me. He nailed my handwriting certificate of debt to the cross for me.
Colossians 3:1 - If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
It starts out by saying, if you then be risen with Christ. The word "if" used here is a First-Class Condition Assumed to be True. It is literally translated since. Since you then are risen with Christ, seek those things (There's your command) which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God.
The verb tense is continually seek the things above, the things of heaven, and not the things on the earth. So, we have to ask the question, what am I seeking? Every morning when I get up, I'm seeking something. Most of the time it's in the human. We're told that we are citizens of the kingdom of heaven, and we're to seek the things of Christ, not the things of the earth.
Today I am posting on the next topic to follow the previous subject.
GOD'S WRATH
Pt. 1
God's wrath is His deep hatred and judgment upon sin and sinners. It shows how offensive sin is to His nature. His wrath against sin and sinners shows that He will not let sin be passed over completely. He will deal with it His way and in executing His wrath and condemnation He is glorified. ( Romans 1:18; Colossians 3:6; John 3:36) It is his settled, unchanging response that evil and sin will not stand against His steady, unrelenting, uncompromising antagonism to evil and sin. It is in perfect harmony with all of His divine attributes, being His holy action of retributive justice towards persons whose freely chosen actions deserve eternal condemnation. He is righteous in exercising His wrath. He alone determines how it is exercised because He is sovereign over all.
The wrath of God is a deeply biblical truth. In our secular age, God's wrath is a foreign and unwanted truth. However, the wrath of God against sin and upon sinners is revealed in Scriptures consistently across both the old and new testaments. We live in a day where humans set themselves as the judge with God's character on trial concerning His exercise of His wrath. People say: "Since God is loving He cannot be wrathful" or "God is not just or fair when He exercises His wrath on sinners".
These judgment upon God's character among believers demonstrate, first of all, a lack of humility and reverence for God for all He is, and second, a misunderstanding that somehow sinners are not responsible for the sins they commit and therefore do not deserve God's wrath or that God has forced people to sin by causing their human nature to become sinful when Adam and Eve sinned. But these thoughts are not biblical and do not allow one to truly grasp and appreciate God's redemption of those He elected to show His favor, mercy, and grace to, even though they are sinners.
Great to see you back. It looks like you had a very enjoyable vacation in Florida and the Caribbean. I assume you made it back home safely. The Lord is good!
You are understanding correctly, and I do agree that Paul had a burning passion for their salvation as you say. If Paul truly wished for them to be anathema before God, then I would have to agree that it can be viewed as being hypocritical. My thoughts on this are that Paul was perhaps giving warning to not only those who were rejecting the gospel message, but also to those who professed to believe but, in their heart, they had no love for the Lord.
A person who does not have love in their heart for the Lord is already in a cursed state. This is not to say that they will always remain in this condition, but if they continue to reject the gospel message, Paul says let them be accursed. I think we both agree that Paul had no desire to see anyone lost or accursed. In fact, in Romans 9:3, Paul makes a very powerful statement. We know he was the apostle to the Gentiles, but he had a deep love for his fellow brethren, Jewish, Hebrew brethren. He was willing to suffer the separation from Christ throughout eternity so that they would be saved, even though that's not possible.
Brother, it is truly amazing how we can recall certain messages given many years ago. That message had to be powerful to stick with you for so long. I notice in Colossians 3:3 that it says we are dead, and the word for dead in the verb tense is Aorist which means that it has already happened in the past. Upon salvation, we died to our old self and put on Christ, so we are dead, and our life is hidden with Christ in God.
You gave a great summary passage in Romans 8:38-39. There isn't anything that can take us and separate us from the love of God. Jesus is interceding for us. The Holy Spirit is interceding for us. We are in God's mighty grip with a salvation complete and secure in Christ Jesus!
Thanks brother Jesse for your ongoing explanations of these selected verses; they are of great help in my readings and appreciation of the original language. I have been following your offerings whilst away, but a couple of your notes caught my eye. One of them here on this page, and another on the next one.
When you referred to us being in God's Grip & our security therein, my thoughts immediately went back to a sermon given by my pastor in the 70s, which was so dramatic in nature, that it was firmly embedded in my mind. He referred to Colossians 3:3 in his message, "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God". When he came to getting his point across with this verse, he held up his right hand, then made a fist & stated that we are hidden with Christ & in Christ in there in His Palm. While still holding up his right fist, he then raised his left hand & swiftly brought it to grab onto his right fist, clenching it tightly, and asked us, 'how secure are we now? We are secure in Christ & together with Him firmly held by a loving merciful Father - there can be no safer, loving & more secure place than in such a perfect relationship with the Eternal God, designed & executed by God Himself'. Romans 8:38,39.
Brother Jesse. Thanks again for this further batch of Scripture clarifications in Acts - very helpful. I understood what you wrote concerning the term "right hand" & certainly agree to it; and in many Scriptures this phrase comes up, having the meaning of 'a position of power & authority', which of course the Lord Jesus had, by virtue of His Divinity & completed work of Salvation for all.
But my thoughts turned to several Scriptures, some of which are Acts 7:55,56; Romans 8:34; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3; 1 Peter 3:22, etc., that certainly do imply Jesus' Divine Power & Authority, but I can't help but read of a positional aspect to it. When the words, 'seated or standing' are given, I think most of us would immediately see this aspect of Christ's 'physical' position as well (not to say, that Jesus doesn't move about in Heaven). How would you say that we should view such verses, especially the one where Stephen full of the Holy Spirit, was steadfastly ('atenizo': eyes affixed) on this wonder seeing the Risen Lord at God's right Hand? Even in this verse, & others, do we need to apply the 'right hand' as only to that of 'power & authority' & not of position? Thanks & blessings.

If I misunderstood you in thinking you were of the group that believes in the doctrine off sinning/christian I apologize. Being sanctified wholly and filled with the Holy Spirit frees me and anyone who asks God for it, of our sin nature too be destroyed, killed, crucified so we don't have to be a sinning/christian. Romans 6:6, Ephesians 4:21-24, Colossians 3:9-10, 1 John 3:8. There really isn't any such thing as a sinning/christian; either your a sinner or your a child of God who doesn't sin every day. A man cannot be old if he is new, he has to be one or the other. That's why I don't call myself a sinner, and, as long as I continue to love and live for the Lord I never will be a "sinner" destine for hell. God Bless :)
Since ancient times the church abandoned the Sabbath and have had the church service on Sundays. The very vast majority of all the churches worldwide do that. Apart from very very few that still keep the Sabbath. So thinking that those very very few do the right thing and all the rest, millions and millions of christians since ancient times have been deceived is a little bit "strange" to believe. Only to those few did God reveal His Word? This kind of thinking is dangerous.
Colossians 3:16-23, "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
18Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
19And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."
The above says that we should not let people judge us for not eating meat, nor drink, or not keeping the Sabbath because all those things in the Old Testament was a shadow of things to come. All those things served for a purpose until the whole truth through Jesus Christ was revealed to us.
Philippians 1:27 Only LET YOUR CONVERSATION BE AS IT BECOMETH THE GOSPEL OF CHRIST that ye STAND FAST IN ONE SPIRIT, WITH ONE MIND STRIVING TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL;

G&P
"In place of anger, may she put on kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." ( Colossians 3:12)
In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Without worrying about pre- or post- ideas, I would side with the post- VIEW.
For that is how I believe the word is meant literally.
Acts 7:55-56 - Stephen, before being stoned, saw Jesus at the right hand of God.
Romans 8:34 - Jesus is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.
Colossians 3:1 - Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Hebrews 1:3 - After making purification for sins, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
Mark 16:19 -
"In fact, the Lord Jesus, after He had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God."
Adeus, friends.
" 2nd Timothy 2:15"
Therefore, Paul stands alone as the God-appointed apostle to the Body of Christ.

to go to church or not to go to church?
Thank you very much!
Romans 1:18
More to come I hope

We are in Christ and Christ is in God. God and Christ are one .
Colossians 3:3
For ye are dead, and your life is hid withChristinGod.
Ray, in Christ Jesus 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Colossians 3:12 - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Colossians 2:14 - Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
The word handwriting means a hand written certificate of debt. The bible says that every person, as soon as they sin, they are indebted to God for the payment for that sin, which no one can pay. But He blotted it out, which was contrary to us, and He took it out of the way, He removed it. He removed the debt, nailing it to his cross;

GOD'S WRATH
Pt.
See Pt. 2
Blessings!

20Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
21(Touch not; taste not; handle not;
22Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh."
The above says that we should not let people judge us for not eating meat, nor drink, or not keeping the Sabbath because all those things in the Old Testament was a shadow of things to come. All those things served for a purpose until the whole truth through Jesus Christ was revealed to us.
