In Acts chapter 2:38 Peter was addressing Jews on the day of Pentecost, when they asked what must they do verse 37, He Peter said unto them, repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. That was the requirement of the early church. Now, turn to Acts 10:44 While Peter yet spake these words the Holy Ghost fell on them which heard words. In Acts 2:38 the Jews had to repent, be baptized everyone of them in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins in order to receive the Holy Spirit. But, Acts 10:44 they The Gentles received the Holy Spirit without being baptized. They early believers who were Jews still under the old Mosaic covenant at that time. Which was a different dispensation, were required to be water baptized to be saved. But, under the new dispensation according to the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 1 4 all that is required for salvation, "both Jews and Gentles is truly believing in the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, plus nothing. Then we will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Look Acts 16: 30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said Paul and Silas Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. He did not saw they should repent and be baptize. No. all they said was believe!
When I believed , able to receive the truth .. I was rebaptized in the Name of JESUS Christ .... Then, what I thought was three , became "One " again ! ... It is definitely a commandment of GOD through HIS apostles by the HOLY SPIRIT !
The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, One Baptism meaning One way to be baptized in water. In Matthew 3:11-17 is where John baptized Jesus in water as a demonstration for us to follow if you notice Jesus told John for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness and this was done with Water. Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the Water, both Philip and the eunuch and he baptized him. 1Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ: faith without works is dead James 2:14-17 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Not by faith only James 2:24 the Bible does say we shall by faith but it says the Just not the Unjust can live by faith because they are still lost until they obey then they can live by faith .
The earliest antiochan vesrsions carry this text but the Codex Vaticanus and Siniaticus do not. Constantine, who mixed Sol Invictus worship with Christianity, ordered new versions in c.335AD it is highly likely that the editing was done then. The Textus Receptus canon was agreed c.250 during the Smyrna or persecution period. Sadly very few of the older fragments remain but El Shaddai oversees His Word and this scripture follows the tenets of the Word. At a stroke it removes any assumptions of the heresy of infant baptism or Augustinian notions of rebaptism.
Isn 't it amazing that people wrest the scriptures to their own destruction. The eunuch believed with his heart. Look at Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed FROM THE HEART that form of doctrine which was delivered you. How did he obey? HE was reading Isaiah and look at Romans 10:16 But they have not all OBEYED the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath BELIEVED our report? In the Church Age believing the gospel is obeying what God requires for salvation. Look at Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the OBEDIENCE OF FAITH Water baptism doesn 't connect you with the blood or anything of the kind. It 's not part of our Gospel for today. Show us a passage stating that the disciples were water baptized according to Acts 2:38 or any other water baptism. The eunuch was water baptized AFTER he was saved not in order to get saved and not part of his salvation. Salvation today is not of WORKS, Romans 4:5.
hebrews 9chap 16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. 17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. After Jesus death, john 3:3 is enforced. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. acts2:38..water and spirit... acts 19:5..john 's disciples, were re-baptised, in Jesus ' name and then received the holy ghost... acts 8:6 ...ethiopian received ..water and spirit.... acts 10:48 ...italian received ..water and spirit...and spoke in tongues. while the bridegroom was with them....mark2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins. hince, situations like the thief on the cross. but , Mark 2:20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them. John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Isn 't it amazing that the eunuch was reading a prophecy about Jesus in the book of Isaiah and Philip then started at that point and taught him about Jesus and the plan of salvation. The eunuch was then taught baptism played a part in salvation and asked to be baptized. What joy he must have felt after becoming a Christian! Praise God! Think of how many people the eunuch must have told that story to.
From old testament times, God wanted us to love Him as much as He loved us. I love Deuteronomy 30:6. God was talking to the Israelites here but He also wants our hearts circumsized to love Him. I was looking up kingdom in my concordance and Jesus used the word malkuth probably since He spoke in Aramic, not Greek. The Greek word for kingdom is basileia. Jesus spoke of a radical transformation of our hearts spiritually after we became part of the kingdom after being saved. So amazing and beautiful! Acts 8:12. Although we weren 't disciples of Christ and walked with Him, isn 't it wonderful we have His Holy Word to read, study and learn! Praise God!
I think this refers to the point that christ was abandoned....no friends no voices to declare who he was..who was his father and his father and past generations, declaring his lineage. But instead he was treated as a reject...no one to speak for his righteous acts, or righteousness.
It didn 't make sense to the eunuch because it was partially reversed from the passage in Isiah. In Isiah it reads lamb to slaughter and Jesus was referred to as the Lamb of God.
The Holy Ghost in which Philip was full of is still the same Holy Ghost today. If we will live a Holy Sanctified life before God, we too can be full of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues, and have this same Power that Philip had.
To acquire Holy spirit in a great way even like that of Philip is not a big deal but it requires one to fully and permanently give his life to Christ. One thing that believers need to know is that, the Holy spirit appears to a believer according to as the believer needs its service.
No one read and understand the bible except he or she is guided by d holy spirit because d holy spirit gives knowledge and understanding to every believer to interpret d bible.
Verse 10: "Are we not all children of the same Father? Are we not all created by the same God?"
When we understand that the personality through whom God always speaks to us is Jesus, this verse becomes clear. Jesus is the Father spoken of here. We see this in Acts 8:4-5 where God answered Paul's question, "Who are you Lord," by saying "I am Jesus, the one you are persecuting."
We must remember that Paul was a devout Jew. And he never would have considered any other God except YHWH Father God. Yet, this God identified himself as Jesus the Son.
You will not understand or believe this if you do not ask God to help you. Ask him and he will!
As a note: God has two other personalities: The personality of "The Father" is the way God directs his affairs, but he never speaks to us this way. Jesus said of him, "You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face."
The perswonality of the Holy Spirit is the way God inspires us to believe in what he is doing. That is, he helps us to understand that Jesus is the way God speaks to, and that this is true from everlasting to everlasting.
This scripture is not present in most modern bible because since the king james was 1st penned much older manuscripts have been found. In those earliest MSS we have currently available this verse is not found so is believed to be a later addition
I can claim it with ease mark! and so can all who are saved. Here's a new "perspective" with ALL advantages: JESUS IS IN YOU AND GOD TOO (since they are one) We ALSO receive the Holy Spirit upon being saved who is also one with the Father. >>>> 1 John 4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.>>> also see ACTS 8:8 and elsewhere on the Holy Spirit! Peace.
@Rosalina (great discussions!!}
Ithink you are forgetting about the "laying on of hands"needed for authority to preach? Deut 34:9, "And Joshua, the son of Nun was full of the Spirit of Wisdom; for Moses had LAID HIS HANDS UPON HIM: and the children of Israel hearkened unto him, and he did as the Lord commanded Moses." Acts 6:6, "These they set before the apostles, and after they had prayed they LAID THEIR HANDS UPON THEM". Acts 9:17, "...and LAYING HIS HANDS UPON HIM, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord has sent me" Acts 8:17, "Then they LAID THEIR HANDS ON THEM and they received the Holy Spirit." Acts 13:3, "Then having fasted and prayed and LAID THEIR HANDS UPON THEM, they let them go." 2Tim 1:6, "For this reason I admonish thee to stir up the grace of GOD which is in thee, BY THE LAYING ON OF MY HANDS."
1Ti,m 4:14 "Do not neglect the grace that is in thee, granted to thee by reason of prophecy with the LAYING ON OF HANDS of the presbyterate." [PRIESTS] Acts 1:20 For it is written in the book of Psalms: Let their habitation become desolate, and let there be none to dwell therein. And his bishopric let another take.
This same rite was practiced in the early Church and continues to this day, The Bishop, by the 'LAYING ON OF HANDS', conveys a succession of Priests and Bishops with a commission, giving them the authority to perpetuate the Church which Jesus Christ founded. Apostalic Succession & only one Church can lay claim to it. The Catholic Church
Praying and reading our bibles daily make us grow in the Lord. Any revelation, we have must go through the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation, without contradicting the Scriptures.Laying on of hands is not the only way to receive the Holy Ghost. In the book of Acks11:15 as Peter began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them. Amen God bless
