Discuss Acts 2 Page 22

    Hello James.

Acts 16:30-32: "And (the prison guard) brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house."

In this verse, Paul was speaking about those who were living with the guard at his house only (v32). Yet, Paul qualifies that salvation can only come when the Gospel is firstly preached & there is a subsequent belief & acceptance of Christ as their (personal) Saviour. Some believe in "household salvation" whereby the saving of the head of the house, means the automatic salvation of his family as well. Verses cited to support this belief is: the above verse you gave, Acts 2:38, 39 & 1 Cor 7:14. Yet, salvation can only come after each person reaching the age of accountability before God, personally hears, believes & puts their faith in Christ for their salvation. Hence the work with children (e.g. Child Evangelism Fellowship & others) are so very important because even the little ones need to hear & receive Christ.

So, even if one's family no longer resided in the family home & are not included in the meaning of verse 31, they are still personally responsible to respond to the Gospel as the Spirit of God moves them in that direction. I therefore understand Paul's instruction to the guard to mean that "not only you but also your whole family living with you can be saved by believing in Jesus".

In Luke 24...The promise that Jesus our Lord spoke about to His followers is confirmed in Acts 2. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and one will receive power (dunamis; greek). Acts 2:38,39 explains that one repents, one receives salvation and one receives the promised (gift) of the Holy Spirit in His fullness. John baptized with water to repentance but Jesus baptizes in fire. When Jesus Christ ascended into heaven; He sat at the right hand of the Father on High and poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers who were already saved by the cross of Jesus Christ and His atoning blood. Now Acts reveals a gift from God which enables a true believer or believers in Jesus Christ to undergo His work on earth through His power...The result is 1st Corinthians 12 - 14; included within is the revealing of the gifts of the Holy Spirit....Jesus left us to be with His Father but did not forsake His Church but given Himself for us through His precious Spirit..

Those were very interesting, thought-provoking comments that you shared there, Spike, to which I fully concur. BTW, the matter of Paul's occupation, can be found in Acts 18:1-3. I think we can have both the cheerful giver of tithes & those that give of necessity. But the point really is, should the matter of tithing that was instituted for Israel's performance, also be compelled upon believers today?

Tithing was, as said in my previous comment, a command given for the support of those who were responsible in the Tabernacle ( Lev 27:30-32; Deut 14:22-24). Then under the New Covenant, the early Church was encouraged to give generously for the support of the needy ( Acts 2:43-47; 4:32-37; 11:27-30; Gal 2:10; 1 Cor 16:1-4; 2 Cor chaps 8 & 9). No where were those believers encouraged to tithe but to offer freely & according to their ability. Today, our Churches are much bigger, accountable to the govt. & required to pay staff, rent, utilities, etc. So should the command to tithe, which was the charge to Israel, now also be upon the Church today?

In fact, if we study the 'tithes' that Israel had to give throughout the year, someone has worked it out that with everything considered, they actually ended up giving about 20 percent of their increase. And to the folk who support tithing now, I wonder whether they calculate their stock/share profit at the close of Trading on Friday & then work out their interest received on their investments & deposits, plus of course, ten percent also of their salary or wages prior to giving their tithe on Sunday? If they don't do all these calculations, would there be any guilt harboured in possibly giving a shortfall to the Lord's Work? After all, if obedience to the Law is imperative, then it should be done without error, I would think. I would rather spare myself this agony, and just give according to my desire, bearing in mind the greater need that exists in the work of the Church, Missions & the needs of others.

Judy May, we don't know exactly what ministry you are referring to. Can you specify?

As for the rest of these comments, I will take each of D.J.'s answers in stride as I can see this person is upset and making this comment thread a spectacle. Though I do believe my first comment should suffice, (especially if the references were checked) perhaps some of the words I used need to be defined for a better understanding. Reading Paul's letters to Timothy, Titus, the Corinthians, and Ephesians; Peter's epistle, and Proverbs and you will get a good idea of the New Testament church's views on female leadership.

D.J. do you know what God has in store for Judy May? No, as she has yet to give any information concerning the specific ministry. Hence the reason why I am offering the basic information to make a decision. Ministry= service or aid. Is not specific to one particular "job."

Am I confident in the understanding God has given of the word? Yes. Am I judging Judy May? No. Jude= distinguish truth from falsehood.

Nothing I said was a judgment, as you can clearly see.

Deborah, who was set in her office (Judge) because "all the men did what was right in their own eyes" was put in that position because no other man in the land was capable. Furthermore, Jews and Christians are dealt with differently. This concept, for lack of space, can be summed up with, God's methods of dealing with His people change in the dispensations. More on that another time.

Today prophesy= to speak. Yes one who prophesies can teach. As said before the Bible has restrictions on whom a woman may have dominion over when teaching: doctrine, 1 Tim. 2:12; authority in church, Titus 1:5-9; 1 Tim 3:1-7. It is a shame for woman to be a PREACHER in church, 1 Cor 14:35. A "prophet[ess]" (seer) is an OT/Jewish concept.

    Your cherry picked verses:

Acts 2:17, end time prophecy. Acts 21:8-9, good for them. Luke 2:36, read the verse and above sentence. 1 Cor 11:5 read the epistles and you'll understand.
  • D.J. - In Reply on 1 Peter 4:12 - 4 years ago
    Vincent Calvert,

Do you know what God has in store for Judy May?

Are you telling Judy May to keep silent concerning the word of God and not offer help or understanding to those that are confused or have never heard?

Are you really that confident in your understanding of the word of God to be the judge of Judy?

Why would it matter that Deborah was a Jew?

    Does a prophet not teach?

Therefore, does a prophetess not have the same ability to teach?

If a woman does not have a husband and lives alone, who is the head of her household?

If you are only speaking "expressly of Christian matters," then what do you do with Acts 2:17 or Acts 21:8-9?

How do you explain Luke 2:36 or 1 Corinthians 11:5?

Do "sons AND daughters" not prophesy in the end times?

  • RAPTURE CAUGHT UP SCRIPTURES - In Reply on Acts 2:41 - 4 years ago
The Rapture - the raising of the Church into heaven ( 1 Thessalonians 4:17)-is the next event on the prophetic calendar. The Rapture is when Christ comes back and takes every Christian that is still on this earth and resurrects all of those who have died and takes them to heaven with Him. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-8, Paul expresses that the Lord's return will be like a thief in the night. No one knows the date or time. However, there are several signs of the End Times that we can all be aware of. Events such as earthquakes and diseases, war and dispute among nations, and persecution against Christians are all signs leading to the Rapture.

    SCRIPTURES TO LOOK UP:

    Matthew chapter 24. 25: 1-46

    1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:2

    Revelation 1:7, 3:10

    1 Corinthians 15: 51-53

    Mark 13:32

    John 14:1-3

    Luke 21: 34-36; 12:40

    Acts 1: 9-11

    2 Peter 3:10

    Hebrews 9:28

    Philippians 3:20

    Colossians 3:2

    Ezekiel 18:4

You can use the empty search box on the KJB website: type in 'Antichrist' and it will list other verses you should read.

Write them down so you can share with friends and family, you want to be in heaven with you.

A Pastor just said in a sermon, that watching the DVD named, The Passion: really shows how Christ suffered so we could be saved. God save you. Amen.

  • Little Children and the Rapture of the Church on Acts 2:41 - 4 years ago
Comment: clearly Jesus loves babies & little children and disabled in comprehension.

Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

    Matthew 7:11

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

    Matthew Chapter 18

3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.

6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

    AGE OF ACCOUNTABILITY

I think the best way to answer that is to say this: There is no "age of accountability" identified in Scripture, as such. There is nothing in the Bible that says, "Here is the age and from here on you are responsible!" I think the reason for that is because children mature at different paces. That would be true from culture to culture, and from age to age in history.

So the Lord in His wisdom didn't identify a specific moment. God knows when each soul is accountable. God knows when real rejection has taken place; when the love of sin exists in the heart. When enmity with God is conscious and willful. God alone knows when that occurs.

Comment: Jesus is going to take the little ones in the Rapture. He'll not leave them here to be used as bait for Antichrist's Mark of the Beast.

If you LOVE your kids; infants & older, everyone pray now to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord! Decide NOW. In the blink of an eye, is all we've got to make that decision. Put your most holy trust in Jesus.

The principle of giving is for all time . Give and it shall be given to you , it's more blessed to give than receive....

Remember in acts they sold a land and laid The money it at the apostles feet and held back part of it lying about it ?

There are no limits on giving .

It's up to the person on to decide how much to give in love , not because they must .

God loves a cheerful giver .

But to say that This verse applies to the church ? No it does not . Or the apostles would have said if it was or Jesus himself . So no it's not NT teaching .

  • PART ONE THE HOLY SPIRITS GIFTS - In Reply on Acts 2:41 - 4 years ago
    Acts Chapter 10

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on ALL of them which heard the word.

45 And they of the circumcision (the JEWS), which BELIEVED were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles ALSO was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

46 For they heard them speak with TONGUES and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Truth is that THE HOLY SPIRIT has gifts; that we can ask for and receive. Get knowledge in 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14.

Generally speaking, people who are not sure about it, and do not have all the scripture laid down within; are sometimes afraid, the whole experience is daunting.

Tongues can be different: some speak another language, some people groan loudly: some speak as the Holy Spirit gives you an utterance. If it's prophetic, there will be 2-3 other prophets in the house who will know if that Word is from God, or out of a persons flesh. If there are no prophetically gifted people in the service; there will be no interpretation of the tongue. All must be done IN ORDER.

Just sitting in your prayer closet, praying in tongues makes no sense to your conscious mind, BUT does edify your own spirit. All the fatigue of all kinds drains away and then you feel energized. Angels harken to the Word of God, spoken.

I pray in tongues in my car, because people drive suicidal or homicidal. I drive with the angels. :D

It's not going to make sense to your brain (soul). It is your spirit that is being built up. Read all scripture on this. When you are positive this comes through the Holy Spirit that in-dwells within yourself spirit; you will someday ask the Holy Spirit for His gift, with the evidence of speaking in tongues. It will happen when you are praying or quietly reading the Corinthian chapters I mentioned. Just be open to the Holy Spirit. :)
  • PART TWOA RHEMA WORD FROM GOD - In Reply on Acts 2:41 - 4 years ago
Rhema is the word of God spoken to your spirit, quickened to your soul. The word that is hot and relevant to your current situation and condition. Rhema is personal and effective, it comes from the depth of God's heart, His spirit into your heart & your spirit. It imparts vigor, energy, strength, power, passion and fervency to you.

All the Old Testament prophets received Rhema from God which made a way for them in the spiritual wilderness. Elijah received a Rhema word from God which not only fed him in famine but saved the life of the widow and her son; gave them a continual supply of food when all around them was in draught.

His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones Jeremiah 20:9

Rhema cries out to you, loud and clear.

When you are reading your Bible, a scripture jumps out of the page to speak to you, or a verse highlighted by the Holy Spirit to enlighten and direct your path. Whatever God tells you to do, He will equip you to do it; wherever God tells you to go, He will prepare for you the way to get there.

The fellowship with God in His Word is vital. The fire, the fervency, the calling comes when you fellowship with God in His Word. For you are face to face with Jesus!

Revelation of John 19:13: and his name is called The Word of God.

The Word imparts vision to you. You become a fired up, proactive, purposeful, God-sent person. Gone are the days of laziness, inactivity and boredom. Your life is no longer "a waste of time"! You become focused, organized and purposeful.

A lot of people out there find life so boring that they have to resort to drugs, alcohol, loud music etc to give them a high; but then when the illusion is gone, they are left worse than before. A person who suffers from depression swings between highs and lows. why? It's because they are not living a "real life", the God given life in Christ Jesus!

There is life in the Word, it is the life of God, the God kind of life.

Repentance is necessary, true. Don't forget Jesus' words to Nicodemus earlier in this very chapter: "You MUST be born again of the WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT" if you want to claim being "born again". Peter told us how to do that on the day of Pentecost, when he, being filled with the Holy Spirit, addressed the crowd in Acts 2:38. That, my friends, is how one is truly "born again."

    Acts 2:38

The Word of God is God ( John 1:1) and is not of any private interpretation ( 2 Peter 1:20).

The word 'Repent' means a lot more than what people by nature have been conditioned to believe. It is the key principle of all the teachings of Jesus Christ and the axiom (basis) of the Word of God and a prerequisite and primary requirement for the salvation of mankind. It actually means the changing of spirits - to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God ( Acts 26:18).

For a better understanding and the 'spiritual truth' of what it means to repent, and learn how and by whom mankind has been deceived ( Rev. 12:9) and what people must do to be reunited with the true and living God, we invite you to seek Him according to the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive ( Matthew 7:7; John 14:17).

You need not that any man teach you ( Isaiah 54:13; 6:45; 1 John 2:27), as mankind follows after an image of a false god and a false Christ ( Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; Gal. 4:8; 2 Cor. 11:13-15; Rev. 12:9).

It is only by revelation of God that you will come to know Christ ( Daniel 12:4,9; Amos 3:7; Matthew 16:17; Luke 2:26; Romans 16:25; 1 Cor. 2:10; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 3:3,5; Rev. 1:1), and only then will you be able to overcome the spirit of this world ( 1 John 5:4; Rev. 3:21) and learn what it means to Repent.

The Book of Acts is so important.

Here in acts 2 we can see the proper position of Christ's church .

Their founder and foundation of the apostles all Jewish and they met in the TEMPLE. They where not called christians , but are of the commonwealth of Israel . Christian was a label that came at Antioch, not from God the father , Jesus or the Holy Spirit , or even Apostles. But most Likely the religious Jews or other people of influence.

Sorry no Catholic Church here or Protestant church either or so many of the cult like groups .

Read Acts and understand what the real faith is . Or at least grow your understanding only based in the scriptures. Forget the hundreds of denominations that can not agree on even what bible to read . KJV is a proven bible with blessings to those that listen to Gods words contained within . The word of God is precious to those that hear and obey . Men just deceive these days , here you go read Acts God has supplied for the truth seekers .

1 Corinthians 13:10. The decree in the scripture is that all things are made perfect in Christ the first fruit. Christ tells the church to wait, He's coming back. Who determined that His conditions and requirements for the church should change during the time he tells us to wait on His return. There is no other scriptural support to change the requirements and condition of the church during this period of Grace. Acts 2:38, 39. "for the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." Mark 16:17, Acts 2:3-4, Acts 19:6. Speaking in tongues and baptism in Jesus name are still the requirements for salvation. When the Holy Ghost enters a person there is a reaction in the body from the anointing and rebirth process that causes the new born to cry out in tongues. Mark 16:17.

    Lora, CONCERNING THE WORD "MYSTERY"

I agree with you, the mystery of God is complex.

I do not agree with you concerning the "mystery of godliness" as it pertains to Scripture you provided, being God Himself. I believe it concerns the Son of God being born of woman ( Isaiah 7:14). Jesus is the One spoken of in 1 Timothy 3:16 and the One promised in Genesis 3:15

I agree with you, Jesus is the way to salvation.

I, however, must disagree with you that God is Jesus and Jesus is God, and again will state that I believe Jesus never came claiming to be His Father.

Jesus came as the personification of the Words of the Father John 1:1-2); and His authority came from the Father; and He lost none of His Father's sheep ( John 17:12)

But Jesus is not the Father.

The word mystery only occurs in the New Testament.

The word "mystery" is the Greek word "musterion" and basically means a "secret."

There is more than one "mystery" spoken of in Scripture.

There is the mystery concerning the DURATION of time of the blindness of Israel ( Isaiah 6:9-10, Romans 11:25).

There is the mystery concerning the kingdom of God which was revealed in parables to the general public, but explained to the 12 Apostles; ( Matthew 13:10-11, 1 Peter 1:10-12)

There is the mystery concerning the fact that "we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed" ( John 11:25-26, 1 Corinthians 15:51, also look at Philippians 3:14, 1 Thessalonians 4:15, Hebrews 9:27)

There is the mystery of iniquity and lawlessness that is connected to MYSTERY BABYLON of Revelation 17:5-7, (look at Daniel 8:23, Daniel 12:4, Matthew 22:4, Acts 2:38, 2 Thessalonians 2:7)

There is the great mystery or secret concerning the Gentiles being co-heirs in the body of Christ, which was only revealed after the second rejection the King and the Kingdom by the Jews in Acts 28:17-31. This is the secret that was kept secret since the world began and what is being spoken of in Romans 16:25-26, Ephesians 3:1-12, and Colossians 1:24-27.

    The Prophesy

Who gave you permission to Riverdance on a Prophesy of God, Almighty and Wonderful GOD ??

We live in 2020. The idea that women are ill equipped to behave in Church is ended. God wants SONS and DAUGHTERS to prophesy: teach the Word of God. We're there already.

I would not want to be a 2020 man, discouraging the Daughters of God to prophesy and teach. God is going to raise them up supernaturally: sons and the daughters! He will step right over our prejudices, and the Word of God will be accomplished. Why not repent: change your mind? Be helpful. Be discerning.

Read the Hebrew, the Greek and get out the history books.

Be refilled and given a fresh anointing by the power of the Holy spirit. Has anyone seriously thought about what a revival of God would look like and hear like?

Maybe the Government has taken our songs away and tried to legislate how many people can get inside a church.....BUT they can't take The Church out of the People!!

Why can't we meet in homes?

Our congressional leaders are turning into the Evil Empire, so we need a plan and quick. If they close the churches; we meet in homes, like the Chinese Christians do.

Are all the prophesies fulfilled? Anybody know that for sure?

Greg, the mystery of God can seem to be so complex if it was never taught you. First read Isaiah 9:6 for the prophecy then read 1Timothy 3:16. Paul or Saul at the time, was crucifying Christians because he thought their teaching and worshiping of Jesus as God was heresy. Saul KNEW the scriptures and that there was only one God so he was zealous in trying to (what he thought) wipe out this Jesus movement. When God struck Saul down on the Damascus road and blinded him and Saul cried out to the Lord/God asking Him who He was, God told him He was Jesus. Jesus is the name above every name,Acts4:12. When Jesus was crucified He took on all the sins of the world and God's spirit had to leave his body hence Jesus crying, Father, why hast thou forsaken me? I hope I helped you a little bit. This is why we need to be filled with the HOLY GHOST so we can read and understand with the spirit. What must we do to be saved? Acts 2:38, repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of sin and thou shalt be filled with the HOLY Ghost.

    Albert,

Can you please clarify your statement: "Baptism is necessary for salvation. If it were not necessary, then Jesus would not have allowed John to baptize Him."

It looks like you are saying that Jesus needed to be baptized for salvation? There was a reason why Jesus was baptized, but it had nothing to do with salvation.

The proper of baptism is in the name of Jesus. There is no one baptized in the New Testament ever baptized under the titles Father, Son, HolyGhost. Father is not a name, Son is not a name, and Holy Ghost is not a name. These are titles. Jesus told them to baptize in NAME of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. I am a father, and a son, and I have the Holy Ghost, but that is not my name. Jesus is the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost( John17:6; I Timothy 3:16; Acts 2:38, John 14:9) Jesus said except a man be born of the water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Baptism is necessary for salvation. If it were not necessary, then Jesus would not have allowed John to baptize Him. We need baptism. Jesus did not die on the Cross for nothing. Sins are only remitted by the name of Jesus. Baptism remits sins. If we believe that His blood provided us with a door to get to God, we must repent of our sins, be baptized in Jesus name, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost according to the scriptures. If we truly believe in the Blood of Jesus, then we will obey what He said about baptism.

    Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Psalms 22:16-18 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:5-7 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

    Isaiah 11:2-9 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Malachi 3:1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

John 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.

John 4:25-26 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.

Messiah came. On the day he was crucified, well over 100 prophesies about him had bee fulfilled. You compare those prophesies with the recorded historical account of that time.
