Olga, yes Acts 2:38 is correct. Matthew 28:19 does say "in the name of". That name is Jesus. Test we see not one person was water baptized in the book of Acts in titles. And in John 3:3-5 Jesus said water & the Spirit are needed to enter into the kingdom of God. So many don't even think water baptism is needed when it's clearly all thru the New Testament bible. So many scriptures. Thank you for obeying the Lord Jesus. Blessings to you

I think that some of Abraham's reason for lying about Sarah was due to his understanding of the promise God had made to him about multiplying his seed. So he must have thought it was best lie rather than die (which would have cut off the fulfillment of the promise God made to Abraham). God did not make a promise to Sarah, but to Abraham. So it was through his seed that nations would be blessed.

No we don't need to wash any bodies feet....But Jesus wanted to show folks what his words does to our hearts....Satan had entered the heart of Judas to betray him....Not his feet but Jesus washed their feet....He was trying to show them what his Words does to our hearts.....An old friend who eats at my table has lifted up his Heel ( our hearts.) against me....But Judas neva did assault Jesus with his feet or Heel...Judas assualted Jesus with his heart....Its our hearts that defiles us as Jesus had said....Satan had entered the heart of Judas to betray him.....Thus when Jesus washed their feet it was a Hearts Washing....Its the things that came from the heart of a man that defiles him....Not our personal hygiene...Our feet or hands....Jesus had said to eat with unwashed hands defileth not a man...Its our hearts that defiles us....But Jesus did everything in metaphors trying to hide it....Everything was hid from the wise and prudent but revealed unto babes...The babes and sucklings he mentions.

......Jesus cd not wash their literal hearts or minds ...But b/c of what is written in Psalms 41:9...An OLD FRIEND that eats at my table has lifted up his HEEL against me....He washed their feet ( Heel )...To show them what the Word, His Blood does to our hearts and minds you are made clean by the Word i have spoken unto you....Jesus knew that all of his disciples had been water baptised but he still had to wash their feet....Which speaks volumes of a greater baptism coming of his Blood....That New COVENANT...As Jesus was the living Word made flesh and blood....That New Covenant in his blood that will make us all clean Internally...our hearts and minds....And we are gonna speak the cleansing word to anybody that needs spritual cleansing....We should plead the blood on everybody that needs spritual cleansing.....But we don't need to wash any bodies feet with h20 ....We need to wash their hearts....Giving them a new heart a new spirit....With his Words...The BLOOD..THE BOOK..GB

    Hi Leslie.

I concur with Richard, This period will be during the Millennium reign of Christ. This is a literal reign here on earth.

They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

    Isaiah 11:9

    Micha van Wyk,

There are denominations, (plural), that have foot washing instituted into their church. Some do it every Sunday under the belief that Jesus instituted it here in John Chapter 12 for the church to do. But it was a custom in those days. Not as a ceremony, but it was a custom as people traveled because there were dirt roads and people wore sandals. And when people came into your home, you as the host would have one of your household slaves sit down and wash that person's feet, dry them, and put their sandals back on for them, getting them ready for the visit and just to get the dirt off of their feet.

This was a custom. It was not a ceremony. Jesus was not instituting foot washing for the church as a ceremony. It was an example of service and how His people should serve Him. What was the example that He was setting? If you notice, Jesus was the one doing the foot washing, the task that was given only to a slave to do. History tells us that the household slaves did the job of foot washing, but not a Hebrew or Jewish person. Even if a Hebrew or Jewish person was a slave, they did not lower themselves to wash someone's feet.

Peter said to Jesus, "Thou shalt never wash my feet." Peter is not trying to be rebellious. He is trying to be courteous in the sense that no Jew should be washing anyone's feet! But Jesus Himself, the Master, the Rabbi is doing it? Peter says "You are never going to wash my feet." Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

The first indicator is in Verse 7, that what I'm doing up to now you don't know. Well, they knew what He was doing as far as the activity is concerned, but they didn't understand it. The second indicator to us is that Jesus is not talking about the custom of foot washing. He's talking about something that has to do with a personal relationship with Him. He is telling them that there is another message here. He says that if you do not let me wash your feet, you have no part with me.

    Adam Young,

Romans 12:20 comes from Proverbs 25:21-22. Romans 12:9-21 should be taken together and this section has to do with participation in our interaction with others. It gives us 13 precepts of love. The principle is given to us in Romans 12:9 which says, let love be without dissimulation. What in the world is that?

First of all, notice that the word "Let" is in italics. So we can scratch that. There's no command here. And the word dissimulation is the old English word for hypocrisy. There are only three words here, Love without hypocrisy. That's all it says. It's a statement of fact. Love is without hypocrisy.

And the Greek word for hypocrisy (HUPOCRISIS) is a word for an actor who is speaking according to the script. So, love doesn't have hypocrisy in it at all. There's no acting in love. You're either the real thing or you're not. You either have Christ in you or you don't. Love, (Agape love) is without hypocrisy. There's no acting. It's the real thing!

So when you get down to Romans 12:20, it says, "Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head."

Have you ever had an enemy, someone that just hated you, maybe in school? And every time they needed something, can you imagine what their reaction would be when every time they needed something, you helped them out! They say, "Yeah, but I can't stand you and I treat you terrible every time I see you." But you say, That's okay! Do you need some water?" You can just see the steam from the coals!

    Reference Romans 12: 20b

It seems the "heap coals of fire on his head" means to get someone's attention. In this way, your actions have gotten an enemy's attention with the possibility of a positive and beneficial outcome. Just seems like and old saying or proverb like hope for the best, prepare for the worst or the devil is a squirrel. (German saying about squirrel.)

    Hi Fred.

Thank God for the Chief Shepherd and those who are truly his will always hear his voice!

John 10:3-4. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth HIS OWN SHEEP by name, AND LEADETH THEM out.

And when he putteth forth HIS OWN SHEEP, he goeth before them, AND THE SHEEP FOLLOW HIM: FOR THEY KNOW HIS VOICE.

Here's something interesting and can be misunderstood.

They don't become his sheep by following him, They follow because they are his sheep. They follow him because they HEAR HIS VOICE. They have ears to hear and eyes to see.

    This reminds me of

    Matthew 13:9-16.

Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.

And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.

This is in contrast to John 8:43-45.

The Lord is calling this sheep fold out of Judaism. Look at the previous verses.

    John 9:39-41.

Then we Gentiles shall also hear him.

John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, AND THEY SHALL HEAR MY VOICE; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.

    God bless.

Is the washing of the saints feet amongst each other as explained in John 13, compulsory or not...?
  • Richard H Priday on 2 Thessalonians 1 - 3 years ago
This chapter gets into the trials and tribulations of the saints (v. 4); and the subsequent judgment of God in verse 6. One can't help but wonder how great the accumulated sins from the dawn of the church age until now is; and how it factors into wrath once it finally transpires.

    (see Rev. 18:5).

Verses 7 through 10 make it clear that indeed the return of Christ; destruction of enemies (in Armageddon and judgment in hell); as well as our promotion ruling and reigning on earth in the Millennial period (verse 10) factors in. There are 3 passages that state every knee shall bow and every tongue confess ( Isaiah 45:23; Philippians 2:10 and Romans 14:11).

We are not to seek vengeance ( Romans 12:19). However; we are doing God no favors by attempting to dampen down a character attribute that He has; in this case rewarding His saints and punishing the wicked. Perhaps those who being persecuted are the best examples of those who understand the need for Divine justice. The saints under the throne in Revelation certainly aren't scolded for asking "how long" ( Rev. 6:9); with response in verses 10-11. With Paul and the churches under heavy persecution at this time this was a necessary statement; and the frequent reminder to endure until the end. In order to warn others of the wrath to come; we certainly must believe in eternal judgment and a literal hell.

If we think people simply cease to exist (or are annihilated) it dumbs down the message and doesn't help anyone to have full conviction of sin ( John 16:8-11).

Ephesians 6-The full armor of God

No passage can be isolated and read alone in scripture; without at least being seriously short as to its full meaning. Ephesians 6 is no exception. It is therefore; no coincidence that the previous chapter discusses the family unit as an example of the structure of the church as well as the rest of the book the concepts of heavenly places.

Verse 9; albeit particularly controversial in today's culture; discusses human masters and compares it to our Master in heaven. This is a key term; almost totally ignored among preachers and laypeople alike in reference to our Lord and Savior. I only know one brother who would routinely pray with that mindset which is truly a sad observation.

Verses 11 through 13 talk about standing in His might. We are reminded of Psalm 1:5 as to the state of the wicked in judgment; surely we also will fall if not fully grounded in the Word.

Verses 14 and 15 bring up both having the truth (as opposed to a false) as a mindset; with verse 15 being prepared to speak the gospel of peace (as we see in 2 Tim. 4:2).

Verse 16 on the shield of faith implies utilizing and TRUSTING in God to get us through all circumstances (see 1 Cor. 10:13; Proverbs 3:5-6). He is able to keep us out of temptations and is trustworthy.

Verse 17 shows us where our headship in Christ also protects us from fatal attack. The Word of God isn't exactly a surprise here as to the only offensive weapon; but greatly compromised among many who endeavor to preach the Gospel. We must meditate on it as well as know how to apply scripture in given situations as the Lord leads us to do ( Mark 13:11).

Verse 18 on gets to the last theme; prayer for the saints including Paul which shows that leadership needs to pray for laypersons and vice versa. This certainly is something that many churches need to address more fully ( James 5:16). I honestly don't know any pastors that have asked for prayer to preach more boldly.

Matthew 27:32 And there were different ones also, two, evildoers, led with Him to be put to death.

33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified

Him, and the evildoers, one on the right hand, and one on the left.

The robbers kept reviling Him alright but what Matthew doesn't prophesy is that one had a change of heart, but Luke does prophesy it in chapter 27 one reviled Christ, and the other rebuked the reviler

Luke 27:39 And one of the evildoers which were hanged kept up a railing on Him, saying, If Thou be Saviour, save Thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?

41 And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of what we did: but this Man did nothing amiss.

42 And he said unto Jesus, my Lord, remember me when Thou shall have come into possession of Thy kingdom

I hear His voice, yet am I listening?

Those next to me I know He loves as much , yet I continue to want to leave the flock.

Drawn away of my own lust looking for something new! Trying to understand who I am, why ,somehow ,someway, I might know what He knows. I am like my brother , who wishes to be like Him , hiding in the garden, waiting?

How many times will He leave the others to come again, and find me? How many times will I take what is mine, only to squander. Do you see Him waiting to kiss me when I return empty! Waiting once again to forgive?

What love, what love! My soul, that forever wants to leave, yet He forever loves me!

How many times I have put the others in jeapordy. How many times they must wonder , again, we will have to wait for Him! They will wait with the same love that He has for all! The flock will wait, maybe for the last time!

Soon He will return and we will be on our way again, hearing His voice as He leads us into eternity!

Forgive me heavenly Father , Thank you for sending your only begotten one, watching and guiding , like no one could ever do! In Christ, the shepherd of our life, who leads and guides, forever loving us this one who has given himself for us!

Do you see Him as you lag behind? Soon you will not hear His voice! He will have gone with the flock, you will no longer hear the sounds of bells, only silence. Repent and be Baptized

Hiya Leslie....I love that Isaiah 11....All these animals are symbolic of ppl, humanity that have given birth to this lil Child which is the H.G. The Child of Promise that is leading them to his Holy Mountain.... Hebrews 12:22....Ye are come unto mount ZION the city of the living God....That HEAVENLY JERUSALEM...ETC....Thats y Isaiah is saying a lil Child is gonna lead them....Which is the spirit of truth the kingdom that is gonna reprove the whole world as Jesus said.

......All these animals are just symbolic of ppl and their animalistic natures....All these animals are ppl that have been converted to this lil Child....which is the H.G. that is leading them....Unless ya receive the Kingdom of God as a lil child you will in no wise enter there in....We all must birth a lil Child which is the H.G....Thats y he has to KNOW US.

Thats y Isaiah 11:6 is telling us about KNOWLEDGE.. He has to KNOW US in order for the good seed to be sown in us resulting in a birth, the kingdom has to come via a lil Child which is the H.G. the Child of Promise

......Knowledge shall cover the earth as the waters cover the seas which is an intimacy with Christ the bridegroom....Remember when God told Jeremiah about the New Covenant....God said i will KNOW them all from the least to the greatest which is gona result in a heavenly birth....As Jeremiah saw all the world in travail and birth pains....In fact 27 times in the O.T. the prophets saw this world in travail and birth pains....Which is the result of this knowledge that is gonna cover the Earth....O thank you Jesus for this knowledge your intimacy with humanity....Thus all men will be bornagain....I will KNOW THEM ALL FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST....OK Gotta go do my Walk...GBU ALL

When we talk about Communion ( his Words ) we need to realize that there is a hidden Agenda in Communion with him.....His Words are the Bread of life but his Words are also the good Seeds that are gona form a baby Christ in us.....There is a Child hid in the waters of the Word....Remember when Pharoah's Daughter came to the Nile to wash a type of baptism of the H.G...She found a Child hid in the River....And that lil Child became her very own Son.....There is a Child hid in the waters of the Word....The bread of LIFE Communion.....Thats y i tell folks that there is a hidden Agenda in Communion....Its Child birth.....Even in the O.T. the manna from heaven was like Coriander seed....The seed of the sower is the bread from heaven and what initiates the New Birth....The bread of LIFE... that good seed is also the Word the bread of life...These things are HID from the wise and prudent but revealed unto babes.... Rev 3:17 Remember the Hidden manna was a New Name simply b/c the New Name is symbolic of a New baby Christ that is gonna be born in us who eat his Hidden manna Communion .....Thats y the Woman is giving birth to the Children... the H.G the Children of Promise....The kingdom....Unless ya receive the kingdom of God as a lil Child you will in no wise enter there in.... Ephesians 5:26 .....Speaks of the Cleansing water of the Word....But in this river of the Word there is a Child hid....The H.G....The Children of Promise...An Israel of God....You are made CLEAN by the word i have spoken unto you.....The bread of life is his Word...

..... Rev. 3:20....Behold i stand at the door and knock if any man hears my voice ( his words his seed ) And opens the door....I will come into him and Sup Sup (Communion) with him and he with me ....This is when he KNOWS us and his good seed is sown in our hearts but its also the bread of life..And thank God that this knowledge is gonna cover the earth as the waters cover the seas...Which is an intimacy with him initiating a birth of H.G..

Hi Dgjot. Just looking at both the verses that use the word, 'satisfaction' ( Numbers 35:31,32), I see an entirely different meaning in Hebrew. The word is 'kopher', and its primary meaning would be, 'a payment'. However, depending on the application, it could apply to 'the price of a life', a ransom, or even a 'bribe'.

In verse 31, the meaning is that no other payment, whether monetary, goods, etc., can be received in exchange for a murderer's life - he had to pay with his life: life for life.

In verse 32, the story is of a murderer who has killed unintentionally (what we might refer today as 'manslaughter'), and then flees into one of the six allotted cities of refuge before he is caught & taken to the judge. Here he had to remain until the death of the high priest & was then free to go home if deemed innocent; though he would probably continually have to 'look over his shoulder' for the rest of his life, in case the deceased man's relatives were still looking out for revenge. Even to this man, no 'kopher' (ransom) could be paid to secure his release from this confinement in a city of refuge - he had to remain there maybe for many years.

Hello Richard. Not sure whether your comment is in reference to some one else's, so I apologize, but your reference to the woman caught in adultery ( John 8:3-11) piqued my interest.

We know that Jesus didn't condemn the woman for her act, rather told her to desist from engaging in such encounters, and John 12:47b tells us "for I (Jesus) came not to judge the world, but to save the world", indicating that His Ministry wasn't of judgement but for souls' salvation; so it was correct that in line with His Coming, that Mercy & Forgiveness be shown & through it, sinners might see their own sin first, before casting their stones.

But I also see another side to this, as part of the given Law, which I've never heard spoken of. The Law of God was clear & binding and the religious leaders knew it. Yet, at that time in Israel, that Law couldn't be enacted or enforced, as their was no king or judge in Israel authorized to do so. I guess the religious leaders took it upon themselves to fill that void, as they also had much sway in the domestic & religious lives of the Jews. But were they legitimate in meting out the death penalty (or, any punishment), for sins/crimes committed? They could certainly see & acknowledge the wrongs done in society, but did they have the power to exact a penalty such as this? Or, would they be limited to committing the woman to a time of separation, of introspection, repentance, & then restoration? Maybe, as a pastor/elder would do in the Church today?

So, I detect that Jesus, in His ministry to both the woman & the leaders, was also showing to them, that such judgement rested only with God and to those He had authorized to exact it; that these religious leaders ought to confine themselves to matters of the synagogue & guidance to the Law's requirements, rather than taking on the role of judges. And after all, the Romans were their rulers/judges at that time, though generally uninterested in these Jewish 'strange' practises. Just a thought.
