In this chapter, God instructs Moses concerning the types of offerings that the Israelites are to willingly bring before Him. These can be a bull, ram, or fowl, depending on what a person can afford. The animal is to be without defect. There are specific ways for the person or the priest to slaughter the animal and then how the blood is drained and sprinkled on or around the altar. There are instructions about how the animal is to be cut apart before being placed on the wood of the fire on the brazen altar of sacrifice.
Animal sacrifice goes all the way back to Adam and Eve. God slaughtered the animal to make clothing for Adam and Eve after they sinned. Adam and Eve felt the guilt of their sin. The covering of animal skins covered their guilt. The slaughter of the animal was the way God wanted the O.T. believers to have their sins removed from them. It is interesting to think that it was not just the killing of the animal, but also the burning of it that was part of the sacrifice. Perhaps the significance of burning the animal parts is to indicate that sins and/or guilt are being burned away from the offender.
The sacrifice was to be made in the tabernacle, where God meets with his people. So, the Israelites could not just make an altar anywhere and offer a sacrifice as the earlier patriarchs did. Here God was dealing with the Israelites as a unified nation, not so much as individuals who could "do their own thing" before God.
It seems that God was forming in the hearts of this nation worship practices that are common to all. It seems that He was being so specific in His instructions that He may be testing them to see if they will do things His way or their own way or the way they did things in Egypt. So, consistency is a good teacher. God was also instructing them that they are not to approach Him any old way. Rather, to esteem Him to be so authorative and holy that if He says to do something a specific way, it is best for them to do so
Its the End of Days according to Ezekiel 38:16 where it states it will be the latter Days which means end of days, the millennium is for The Restoration between the them since the two sticks of Judah and Israel were already rejoined back in chapter 37.
The use of Gog and Magog in Revelation 20:8 is apparently an inclusive term for all the Gentile nations; East (Gog) and West (Magog) all over the world and is being referenced here as to how many there is that will still go against the Lord during the millennium; the number of whom is as the sand of the sea: And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. (To gather them together to do battle against the Lord God)
This is the final chapter of this book. God instructs Moses to erect the tabernacle and tent of meeting on the first day of the new year (which would be in the month of Nissan (March/April). So, the first year since leaving Egypt was coming to a close. And now, the Israelites are facing the dawning of the second year. The trip from Egypt to Canaan could have been traveled in a few months (considering there was over a million people) but God had them tarry at certain places. He had them camp before Mt. Sinai for most of the year. Now, on the first of the new year, Moses does as God commanded him, erecting the tent of meeting with the tabernacle within and the roof overhead. He placed all of the furnishings in the tent just as God had told him to do. Moses was so dedicated to obeying God. His time on the mountain must have created a deep and abiding relationship between Moses and YHWH. Of all the Israelites, Moses, understood YHWH's worth and the necessity to obey Him was unquestionable.
After everything is in place and the priests anointed for their service, YHWH fills the tent of meeting with His Presence (the cloud by day/fire by night). This Presence was so intense that even Moses could not enter the tent of meeting. How bright the light of the pillar must have been and how thick the clouds of the pillar. It seems that YHWH aimed to make the tent of meeting impenetrable as long as His Presence filled it. No one can push through to the presence of God. God has to allow it on His grounds for His reasons. The Israelites must have sensed the weight of His Glory and knew that YHWH definitely was in charge of them and their situation. I don't think God revealed His Presence this way to keep His people away from Him. I think He revealed Himself this way so that they would comprehend how powerful and holy He is, both creating trust and fear in them.
The chapter closes by saying that as long as YHWH's Presence was over the tent of meeting, they put.
This chapter describes the making of the priestly garments as YHWH had told Moses they were to be made up on the mountain in previous chapters. After everything was made, Moses inspected all of the work and said that all was done just as YHWH had told him these should be fashioned. The text does not say if Moses told the artisans how things were to look and be constructed or if the Holy Spirit had directed Bezalel and Aholiab how to do so.
Moses blessed the people at the completion of all of this work. He must have been so pleased to see what God had showed him on the mountain become reality.
This Chapter continues with describing what Bezalel and his assistant, Aholiab, made for the tablernacle.
It also speaks of the total amounts of gold, silver, and bronze used to create these items. I do not know how much a talent or bekah is. But I think that the total amounts were probably a large and costly amount.
I know that the tabernacle and all of the furnishings are representations of what is in heaven. And I do believe that whet is in heaven is outstandingly glorious. So, perhaps that is why God had the earthly tabernacle be so elaborate and costly. Even so, perhaps He also wanted the Israelites to invest these very valuable metals in Him, and not hold on to them for monetary security. Their treasure was now invested in God and they will come to know Him as their priceless treasure. The costliness of these furnishings pale in comparison to the value of God.
In this chapter Bezalel was given the tasks of making all of the furnishings for the tabernacle in the fashion the LORD described to Moses on the mountain.
Makes me wonder how did all of these things get transferred from place to place in the wilderness for 40 years. Did they have carts pulled by livestock for the wood, curtains, etc. I know the ark, and the altar were carried by poles inserted into rings. Did each tribe have a certain furnishing to transport or did just the Levites transport all of the things for the tabernacle and tent of meeting?
There must have been lots of logistical instructions in this transport from place to place.
This Chapter describes the curtains, siding boards, and roof of the tabernacle and tent of meeting as was described in previous chapters. Bezalel and Aholiab were specifically chosen by God, not men, to oversee and direct the work done for this place of meeting with YHWH. They were talented, naturally, but then given even more talent by God for this undertaking. Same is true of others who gladly submitted their talents to the work God asked them to do. It seems that the whole of Israel were very eager to give and to work on this project. Perhaps with God prohibiting them from making any image of Him to represent Him the Israelites were pleased to have something tangible to connect to YHWH. Whether or not this was thought as idolatry is unknown, but it may have made it seem like YHWH was more "real" to them in having a dwelling place for His Presence to reside with them.
God is Spirit, in His essential nature, is not tangible, not made of matter, not corporeal . Throughout all of time, mankind has tried over and over again to represent God in ways they can see and touch. The concept of an invisible, transcendent, God is almost beyond our ability to apprehend. And, in the flesh we cannot apprehend God in truth. Mankind always ends up with an idol of some sort. But with the help of the Holy Spirit, the knowledge of God is given to us spiritually, because we are made spiritually alive and able to commune with Him as believers.
It seems in that the Israelites gave to this work overflowingly. The leaders needed to tell them to stop bringing any more materials because they had enough to complete the projects and have plenty left over. So, they stopped the giving and got to work completing the tasks they each were given to do. This hilarious giving was impressive.
I wonder, since God did not wish to have any image of Himself made by Israelites why He designed such a rich and elaborate tabernacle and its furnishings. Who did this satisfy?
God is looking on your heart. Who can know the Heart But God!
Blessings to you all in our Lord Jesus Christ. In great love, I pray He opens up all of eyes.
Can you point to this in scripture?
Is the Apostle Paul The Church ?
The Holy Spirit fills Bezalel with His Presence and with the wisdom, understanding, knowledge, skills, and ability to design and to teach others to perform all of these tasks. Bezalel was already a skilled craftsman, but God made sure that he had all the skills needed to be the one who superintended all of the workmanship done by many members of the tribe.
God not only allowed the Israelites to have acquired all of the metals before leaving Egypt, but also supplied the wood and badgers from the wilderness and the goats and rams from their flocks, but also supernaturally supplied the skills and abilities to design, plan, teach, and execute the making of all the things for the tabernacle, tent of meeting, and priestly garments.
This work seems to be quite monumental in scope. I wonder how long it took to complete everything? But I guess that there were over a million people, so with most of them doing tasks, it may have not taken very long. It is interesting that it seems that the Israelites were all of one mind and heart in this endeavor. This work must have been very unifying for them. A hands-on, practical way to work in one accord for the sake of YHWH. So much different than their work on the golden calf! God did not supernaturally help them with that! But with this work, He did give them over and above what they knew to do.
This reminds me that when we are called to a certain aspect of ministry, it is amazing how God brings out of us so much more than what we normally possessed prior to this ministry. So glad He does this.
This chapter opens with Moses instructing the Israelites in the words YHWH commanded them to do. The first command concerns the Sabbath-work 6 days and rest from work on the 7th, even kindling a fire. This 7th day is considered a holy day, not a "goof off" day. They are to rest "to the LORD" I wonder what that means? Those who break the Sabbath command are to be put to death. With such a dire punishment, it must have driven home to the Israelites the need to take God's commands seriously and soberly. Would they be willing to put to death those who broke the Sabbath rest?
Next, Moses speaks of the offering for the Tabernacle. It was to be given from a willing heart. The people were asked to give their silver, gold, and bronze. These were likely objects made with these metals. I am sure they did not have stashes of bars of these metals. Most likely, many of these objects were household idols brought from Egypt. Would they be willing to give up these idols for YHWH? They were asked to bring blue, purple, and scarlet thread, fine linen, and goats hair. Also, ram's skins dyed red, and badger skins. They were to bring acacia wood (which grew natively in this wilderness). And oil and spices were for light, incense, and anointing oil. Also, onyx stones and all the stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate. All of these items were described and their uses explained to Moses on the mountain beforehand.
Next, Moses called on all who were gifted artisans to come forward and use their skills to make from these supplies what God had shown Moses on the mountain for the tabernacle, its tent, and court. Also, the garments for the Aaron and his sons, the priests.
Everyone departed from Moses and gathered up what they were to freely bring to Moses for these things. It says that those whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were willing. Here the Holy Spirit is working in these people and they followed Him.
I believe Hebrews 13:12-16 speaks of spiritual living
"Wherefore Jesus also, THAT HE MIGHT SANCTIFY THE PEOPLE WITH HIS OWN BLOOD, SUFFERED WITHOUT THE GATE.
Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, BEARING HIS REPROACH.
"We've been cleansed by the blood and separated to follow him."
FOR HERE HAVE WE NO CONTINUING CITY, "BUT WE SEEK ONE TO COME". (The new Jerusalem.) Galatians 4:26-28.
("But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.)
"Sarah presents a picture of this."
( We've been born by promise.)
Issac presents a picture of this!
Galatians 4:28.
BY HIM THEREFORE LET US OFFER THE SACRIFICE OF PRAISE TO GOD continually, that is, the fruit of our lips GIVING THANKS TO HIS NAME.
BUT TO DO GOOD AND TO COMMUNICATE FORGET NOT: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.
We are to praise him for freeing us from the bondage of dead works and counted us worthy to be heirs of the promise given to Abraham by faith. We are to walk in that faith righteously.
Ephesians 5:14-17.
Romans 12:1.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."
We've been brought outside the camp cleansed and given the Holyspirit to be able to serve.
John 4:20-21.
It's not location or command. ( No longer in bondage) Brought outside the camp, been made free AND NOW ABLE to worship in truth and in spirit.
THROUGH THE POWER OF THE HOLYSPIRIT IS HOW WE SERVE HIM.
God bless.
Verse 3 seems to suggest the foundations as being those things promised of God or the boundaries set beyond which man cannot pass. We can remind ourselves of what Christ said in Matthew 10:28 about those who can only destroy the body; in regard to fearing what God can do to both body and soul in eternal judgment.
Verse 5 shows the understanding of God chastising those He loves ( Rev. 3:19 among others).
There is a difference between that and God's judgment; as the righteous in this age are going before the Bema Seat; but the wicked to the Great White Throne Judgment. God's promises are always eternal; whether to the souls of the elect; or to His covenants on earth.
We are reminded of such verses as Proverbs 5:22 and the evil devices of man. These are numerous. In fact there are hundreds of verses on man's wickedness. We are reminded in verse 5 that we are never to love violence as the wicked do. Justice may be served without glorifying the necessary penalties rendered under the law without removing corporate punishment. We need to be careful not to get caught up in all the entertainment that displays such behavior; and this includes sports. Maybe one can watch boxing without glorifying violence; but in hockey games in particular it is almost guaranteed that fighting will occur in almost every game at some point. The same thing holds true for those fighting on the battle field. There are those who enjoy talking about killing even innocent people among some veterans today. Sometimes we oversimplify international conflicts as well; so we need to think as Bereans not by all the media says
Luke 9:17
17 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude.
Mark 17:18
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
The bible is to be in you life at all time, love the lord your God know his words
18Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
20And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:
