Ronald L Whittemore ,i dont think she would have been allowed to serve in the temple ,only male levites were allowed to serve in the temple ,Jephthas vow was to offer it as a burnt offering ,he wouldnt go back on a vow to God and he wouldnt have been so upset if she was just going to serve in the temple , these are only my thoughts , i could be wrong but i belive what it actually says .

Why did God refuse Cain's temple sacrifice?

I'm trying to understand what started the rift between the 2 brothers,

and then the children of darkness versus the children of light that happened after that.

Seems to me Cain wouldn't have killed Abel if the Lord hadn't shown obvious preference to Able.

    Chery

Jephthah vowed a vow unto the Lord to offer as a burnt sacrifice, the first thing that came out of his house to great him. His only child, his daughter came out first. There was a tradition that if a woman who wants to give herself in service to God must be a virgin. The expression "bewail her virginity" means that she would spend two months with her close friends and relatives before joining herself to the temple.

Verse 39 And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,

One meaning of burnt offering is to sacrifice at the altar. The other meaning is to give oneself to serve in the Temple, the latter is most likely what was done. She being his only child left no hope for any grandchildren because she could never marry, would die a virgin.

The word lament in verse 40 sounds like she was sacrificed, but the Hebrew word "tanah" can also have the meaning of perhaps recount, rehearse or commemorate the idea of attributing honor.

So, the daughters of Israel could, for four days be honoring her for giving herself for the rest of her life to serve in the temple for the honor of her father's word and the vow he made to God. Some kind of love she had for her daddy.

    God bless

Sister Darlene, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

The Bible is THE WORD; therefore, the words are the (Heavenly) Fathers. Proverbs 6:20 is the (Heavenly) FATHER saying to you THE SON (or daughter) to keep his words. It does not contradict the scripture in Matthew telling you to call no one father; but GOD THE (heavenly) FATHER.
  • Philip Christian Parks on Hebrews 5 - 5 years ago
Heb. 5:7 = This verse speaks specifically of CHRIST's emotional "agony" in the Garden of Gethsemane. HE prayed to HIS FATHER immediately before HIS arrest, trials, and crucifixion (cp. Mt.26:37-38; Mk. 14:33-34; Lu. 22:42-44).

While in Matthew 6:9-15 LORD JESUS CHRIST provided instruction on the "manner" of verbal praying, and of that for which believers must pray, here ( Heb. 5:7), The LORD exemplary demonstrated the spiritual attitude when praying required for GOD The FATHER to "hear" and accept. Following CHRIST's example, the one praying must

1st, realize his extreme and total physical weakness and helpless impotence prohibiting him from controlling his personal condition and his environmental situation: "WHO in the days of HIS flesh, ".

2nd, actually realize the dreadful situation requires prayer (cp. Mt. 17:21; Mk. 9:29), prompting the petitioner to "boldly" ( Heb. 4:16) and verbally communicate the prayer: "when HE had offered up prayers and supplications unto HIM".

3rd, pray deliberately and purposefully from the heart: "with strong crying and tears".

Note, often such extreme circumstances defy putting such prayers into understandable and meaningful verbal expressions. In such cases GOD does not leave HIS beloved children to their own devices, but rather HE supernaturally accompanies the petitioner ( Rom. 8:26):

"Likewise The SPIRIT also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but The SPIRIT itself maketh Intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

4th, pray to The Only ONE that can and will "hear" and respond to the pitiful cries of the petitioner: "unto HIM (GOD The FATHER) that was able to save".

Contrast this great reality with idolators' idols ( Ps. 115:4 & 6; 135:17):

"Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands. They have ears, but they hear not."

5th, pray with the sole and only spiritual attitude acceptable to GOD: "in that HE feared."

The context of Matthew 23:9 tells us that referring to one's biological father as "father" is not what Jesus is speaking about.

In Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus is denouncing the Jewish scribes and Pharisees for rejecting Him as their Messiah, in particular for their hypocrisy in elevating themselves above others with titles such as "teacher" and "master." The Jewish teachers affected those titles because they supposed that a teacher formed the man or gave him real life. They sought, therefore, to be called "father," as if they were the source of truth rather than God. Christ taught that the source of all life and truth is God, and no one ought to seek or receive a title that properly belongs to Him. No one should be as revered as God is.

This denunciation is equally relevant today. In no way should any person look up to, follow, or elevate a human leader in any religious or church organization above Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Head of the Church, which is His body. He alone is the author of our salvation, source of comfort in difficulties, and strength to live the Christian life. He is the only One to whom our prayers should be directed. No one else has the right to say, "Look to me to meet your spiritual needs." Jesus' warning against calling men "father" is a caution against ostentation, pride, and hypocrisy.

Roman Catholics call their priests "father," and the Pope is the "holy father." Abbots take their title from the Aramaic word abba, which means "father." This is clearly unbiblical. The priest as "father" is problematic. In the case of "holy father," there is no doubt this title is unbiblical. No man can take on the title of "holy" anything, because only God is holy. This title gives the Pope a status that is never intended for any man on earth.

Why in Matthew does it say" call no one you father on earth for you only have One Father in heaven.

And then in proverbs 6:20 it turns around and calls your father -father? I don't get that.

    Thanks

    Peter,

Joshua 7, the "accursed thing" was the disobedience of God's commandment and the plunder stolen by Achan. Achan had taken plunder for himself which had been forbidden when the Israelites conquered Jericho. He had taken a beautiful cloak, silver and gold for himself and buried it in his tent. This was in direct opposition to God's commandment. "The city shall be under the ban, it and all that is in it belongs to the LORD " Joshua 6:17. God demands total obedience to his commands.

    That's the short of it.

We see here that even baptism can be greatly misused. Thus we see there is no truth of the christian faith so basic but what it cannot indeed be mishandled so greatly and run into the ground so hard that we have not totally misrepresented the very basis of any decent understanding of it.

    Hello friend in Jesus,

When I sit back in my chair, close my eyes and picture mystery Babylon getting overpowered and blown away, the only nation that comes to mind is this one, America. Thomas Jefferson built us up like Rome to become a great nation. Now we've become sneaky as the devil himself.

The Iraq WMD lies, the MIC wants endless wars of choice. Under Obama, the US hired and funded ISIS mercenaries to fight along side US troops in Syria and Iraq. "brother against brother" for money.

An aggressive, dying empire can't resist the flame for glory. Without warning, things are going to get hot on mother earth.

Hello brother truth seeker. The more facts we have in the furnace, the better the forge. The Jews living in Israel today are not genetic Jews, but Jews strictly through religion. Todays occupants of Israel have no relations to Abraham, Issac, Jacob nor Judah. They are 2 completely different peoples and only bloodlines had claim to the land. Despite their European roots, their colony was set up in Israel by Rothschild, a wealthy European Jew. Jesus called out their end-time leaders as impostors, and "of the synagogue of satan" Rev 2:9 for this reason. Keep in mind, all 12 tribes lost their identity, blended in with other nations of the earth.

Read Jewish author Arthur Koestler's book: The Thirteenth Tribe

May God bless you in your search for answers.

Knowing there's something missing in your life. Bringing that to your attention while trying to understand the Bible. Surrender your life to Jesus Christ, turn away from your sin and He will save you, (come into your heart). Ask the Holy Spirit to accomplishes His work by giving you understanding of the scripture and the power to walk in it.

Surrender is our big part in this and allow Jesus through the Holy Spirit to do his work.

    Part 2

Understand this... National TV news is NOT going to report on this. On Jerusalem Post you might be able to find back stories.

They just came through being attacked every day on our tv's. We saw it.

It started on tv news (700 Club) we saw the Jews boarding and disembarking; Returning to Israel permanently. You have to prove you're a Jew to live there now.

Folks! Gods final countdown is ticking real fast. I suggest you get some Arthur E Bloomfield books and cram some prophesy, fast. The most accurate I have read.

The United States is going to do something that enrages the World at Large to hate our nation. I believe that was when President Trump made Jerusalem the center for the USA embassy. What happened 20 years ago?

The Jews Began to Return to Israel.

I wish I had the Bible in this format in childhood. Search function. Wonders never cease.

"The Day of The Lord" is not the Rapture.

The Rapture is first for the Church (not to be confused with Catholic). Christ will announce His arrival with a mighty trump. I'm thinking it's going to be loud, and people will see it and watch, but maybe only we see Him and hear. He will come with the clouds and we will go up to meet him. He calls us up. Believers who are alive will be taken to Heaven. He is the Bridegroom and the Church is the Bride so when you see this reference that's our turn. We have the Wedding Feast prepared and it is joyous and we are ready to get out of this horrible place. I am going to be watching from safety, because the horrors that are coming are hard to accept. I'm trying not to be excited for Everyone should be figuring it out because we are speeding up! Does anyone feel it?

The Day of The Lord is when He comes like a thief in the night. Everyone is evil and feeling content and there is peace, peace and then sudden destruction.
  • Peter Stone on 1 Thessalonians 5 - 5 years ago
1 Thessalonians 5:3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

  • Part one ISRAEL - In Reply on Matthew 24 - 5 years ago
On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, the head of the Jewish Agency, proclaimed the establishment of the State of Israel. U.S. President Harry S. Truman recognized the new nation on the same day.

What was the significance of the Six-Day War? June 1967

At a time when Arab forces posed a significant threat to Israel's security, Israel's preemption in the Six-Day War dealt a decisive blow to their ability to carry out threats, especially by incapacitating Egypt's air force. Israel also captured territory held by Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, none of which was recaptured by military means. Calls by the United Nations (see United Nations Resolution 242) to return these territories in exchange for lasting peace laid the foundation for the "land for peace" formula underlying the Camp David Accords peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.

The Bible teaches that when Israel is in the land, that God gave through covenant with Abraham; to his heir by Sarah. NOT Ishmael. Ishmael had his own blessing by GOD, for power, wealth, princes. Genesis 16-18

In the past 20 years, the dispersed Jews, have RETURNED to Israel from all over the Planet. The Land prospers when Jews are in it. It has prospered and the entire world covets everything they have. Israel needs to build houses, they are building a pipeline to get more fresh water. The world opposes every thing they are doing on land God gave them forever. Two final things that HAS to happen, is for the Jews to LOVE the Land again. Refuse to give it up. Fight for it. The Final thing: is for the Jews to Love God again. The harder the world try's to get rid of the Jews; the tighter their grip on God will get. The Covenant and boundaries of Israel is a deed that is defined in the Bible. The Abrahamic Covenant. Read it. As we all know, the USA leaders are throwing in with the Palestinians, Russia, China, EU, and others to force Israel off the Land.

They just came through being attacked every day on our tv's. (See Part 2)
  • Bro Barney - In Reply on Psalms 19 - 5 years ago
You must interpret the Bible in context. Are you speaking of Mathew 24:39-42? You are correct, the taken in these verses are just like those taken in the flood ( Matt. 24:38); they die. Jesus was talking to the Jews about His second coming. The rapture of the church is not His second coming as He will not touch the earth at that time.

1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

There are many more passages that point to the church being raptured up before the tribulation period.

    God bless

    Amen!!

Thanks friend, We need more posts on How to receive salvation rather than whether it can be lost,

Seek salvation then feed on the word.

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

    1 Peter 2:2.

Spiritual growth is what I think is the next most important thing,

A lack of spirituality can mean one of two things,

    Either a carnal Christian.

Or one who don't have salvation.

If you are a true born again Christian and feed on the word, there's nothing you can do to keep from growing.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

    Matthew 7:18.

If there's sin in your life that will be dealt with as well.

John 6:57-58. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

John 6:63. It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

Key things about the manna in the wilderness.

    1) You had to feed on it every day.

    2) YOU HAD TO GET YOUR OWN!!

The true bread is the same way!!

2 Corinthians 13:5. Paul says to examine yourselves to see if Christ be in you.

John says when you are in Christ and Christ is on you, YOU WILL LOVE THE BRETHREN. You're in the light.

It's so easy to SAY Love Love, Love right?

    We all Love someone!

So let's examine ourselves like this,

What about anger without a cause.

What about this Christian you just don't like? Ask yourself Why?

Where's the longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, forgiveness, Mercy, and Love that the bread of life bread of life supposed to have supplied you with?

    Key words:

    ( The quickening spirit)

    ( Virtue )

    ( Baptism )

1 John 2:9. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

Hello all. It hurts me having seen a Jesus likeness figure portrayed in a casket by the altar in two very old Churches, one of which is here in the US. I have also witnessed a non-believing Indian man needing to get baptized by a priest so that he could get an equivalent of a US social security number so that he could get a bank account. Also, my wife and I were another time passing out gospel tracts in No Mexico across the street from vendors selling trinkets to visitors of the accompanying Church. We saw with our own eyes a priest come out talk to one of the vendors and the go back in. A few minutes later two men came over and advised us to leave the area.

For our meditation in peace and love.

What are the steps of Salvation

You become aware of your need.

You hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ promising to meet that need. John chapter 3

The Holy Spirit convicts and draws you.

You believe the truth of the Gospel.

You repent of your sinful life, turn to Jesus as your Savior and Lord and receive forgiveness of your sins, making God the Lord of your life.

You are received by God, as an adopted Child because Jesus paid your penalty for you.

You receive the gift of eternal life.

You receive the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

You must remember that salvation is of the Lord. It is a supernatural miracle performed by God because He loves you and has provided salvation for you by having sent Jesus to die for your sins, on the cross. You are not saved by your worth or your works, but by God's grace.
