Matthew 6:9-13 and a slightly abridged version in Luke gives us Christ's instructions in HOW we ought to pray. We have the honor and praise to God (fulfilling the First Commandment); and an example of seeking His Kingdom first and His will to be done-then asking for our daily provisions; forgiveness of sins (commission/omission) as well as forgiving others; asking to not be led into temptation; and being delivered from evil; and once again acknowledging God's authority (yours is the Kingdom; power and glory). Our prayers therefore are encapsulated in us verbalizing and meditating on God's authority and Holiness.

This by no means should be a ritualistic prayer. When we look at it; there really isn't any miraculous manifestation asked for in terms of healing; casting out demons; etc. But it needs to be the foundation of our lives so that our testimonies are genuine and we are living not for ourselves but for God. Clearly; we are NOT to pray as James states to satisfy our lusts ( James 4:3). There are times when we need to say God help! and clearly in a crisis life and death moment that may be enough. Trust in God's provisions despite external circumstances AND that the works that He has for us from before the beginning of the world ( Ephesians 2:10) are two major factors in a good prayer life. Obviously; discipline to listening to His voice; spending quality frequent quiet times in prayer and the Word are helpful as well. It is helpful to understand His will and also to rest in the fact that we have a High priest ever interceding for us ( Hebrews 7:25); and Romans 8:33. We all see through a glass darkly; but should seek to grow in maturity and wisdom.

Between the close of the Old Testament, was 490 years of silence from Heaven.

Then in Matthew and Luke, we see it is time for Jesus to come into the world.

Luke 2:36-38 does give us one example of a woman at the Temple (Anna) who devoted her life after her husband died to prayer. We could look at Hannah also; at least spending time there imploring God's favor. Just food for thought...

    Hello Bobby,

I would suggest reading the Psalms to see how David began and ended prayers. In the New Testament, Jesus said that this is how we ought to pray,

Our Father, Who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts (sins, trespasses) as you forgive our debts. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. Matt. 6:9-13.

So, this prayer can be used as a framework for one's time in prayer.

    Psalm 83:5-8

5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:

    6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;

    7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;

8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

God's enemies have risen up in America with one voice. The barbarian supporters of murder by abortion, sexual perversion by homosexual rights, theft by oppressive taxation, and other ungodly wickedness. There is no fear of God before their eyes. They mock God and persecute His children as if they will never face God to answer for their sins.

    Good Afternoon, Grae.

I can see both explanations on this, but I tend to agree with you in that, if the verse states it, then I believe it to be true unless it is obvious allegory, imagery, or symbolic.

    Hello. Gianna

This discussion reminds me of Romans 14:5-6 and Colossians 2:16 which speaks of not judging others as to whether they keep one day as holy or not, or celebrate some feasts or not. So to me, each person is free to celebrate unto the Lord as they are led to do. Celebrating Holy Week and Easter (as Resurrection Day) does not focus on pagan traditions but on our Lor's final week of life on earth, His death, and His glorious resurrection from the dead. At our church on Resurrection Day, the pastor loudly proclaims, "The Lord is Risen!" And the congregation lifts up a shout, "He is risen, !" That always captures my heart to praise Jesus as I affirm this great event. To have everyone in the congregation shout in unison is wonderful. So, I find this as bring done for the Lord, as Romans 14:5-6 says. And with Colossians 2:16 in mind, I do not judge others as to whether they celebrate this day or not.

But, I agree with you in that we do need to learn about the pagan aspects of celebrating Christian holidays and weed out those practices that give honor to anyone but our Lord.

Gianna, many would agree with you, including me.
  • GiGi - In Reply on Ezekiel 18 - 3 years ago
Yes, Gianna, also see John Chapter 9 where Jesus heals a man born blind and is asked if he was born blind because of the sin of his parents. Jesus replied that neither of his parents had sinned, but that the works of God may be revealed in the man's healing.

In Romans 8;1 Why is the second half of the verse missing which reads as follows? Who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit/ in new Bible versions?
  • James on Psalms 98 - 3 years ago
Who has known the mind of the Lord for he is past finding out!! For he is good and his mercies are new every morning great is thy faithfulness oh Lord unto the Children of Men!! Who do not deserve your favor are the goodness of your benefits!! Blessed be the name of the Lord Yahweh yahshua hamashiach Elohim the Lord of our salvation

    Numbers 25:4-5

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

This is a condemnation of modern churches that support wickedness such as abortion or homosexuality. God did not say "make friends with the ungodly" but, instead, 'totally condemn those that support wickedness promoted by ungodly rebels against God.'

I am continuing my first commend:

Although in English that celebration is called EASTER, in other nations' languages it is actually named PASSOVER just like the jewish people call it. And what those christians celebrate is NOT the "passage" from Egypt to the Holy Land BUT the "passage" from the Kingdom of devil to the Kingdom of God, from the slavoury of sin to the freedom from sin, from eternal death to eternal life, NOT the sacrifice of a lamp BUT the sacrifice of THE LAMP. ( 1 Corinthians 5:7).

Should we christians celebrate Easter? Opinions differ.

My point of view is no we should not according to apostle Paul saying that there are no holy days for us now in the New Testament.

(See ROMANS 14 and the whole epistle to GALATIANS).

The seed of the woman reffers to Jesus Christ who will destroy the Kingdom of satan by freeing people from sins though which satan reigns in humanity and leads them to eternal hell. hat will be done by sacrificing Himself on the cross.

The seed of the serpent reffers to satan who by using his own people drove Jesus to the cross. It may have seemed to him as a victory until he realised that that was God's plan to save humanity.

What Jesus did to satan was a major blow to his reign.

What satan did to Jesus was something temporary and insignificant.

Dear brother. Our salvation is not a result or a wage for our good lives, it is a gift from God through the sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ. To understand that think that all people have sins since we are human and have weak nature . So God has to convict us no matter how good or bad people we are, just the penalty differs. But Jesus paid that penalty on the cross once (the wage of sin is death) as a represantative for all people of all times so now everybody who believes and accepts that sacrifice is freed from God's conviction (apostle Paul deals with that in ROMANS 2-8). But (and here is where the misunderstanding about grace and work comes in) once you accept the salvation God offered you and start walking your christian life, you HAVE TO HAVE a good life obeying God's laws written in the Gospel and do good things (works) so that you keep the salvation that you once accepted, because it can be lost, AND transform youself (your character) so to become similar to Jesus', that is God's. How do i loose my salvation? By doing sins and do not repent (the wage of sin is death). Also by not doing good things (works) which again is a sin {see James 4:17). It is not that the good things we do will save us, it is always the grace of God, but they show what we have inside (apostle James deals with that in his epistle). Example given, if i say i have love then how do i show that? By not being interested in other peoples needs and give some help? If that is the case then two things may have happened, either i dont care and i am outside God's life and salvation or i have not understood who is the God i beleived in. Wrote too much, hope didnt confuse you.

Have to say that for this topic various churches have various beliefs.

  • Giannis - In Reply on Ezekiel 18 - 3 years ago
It means that God attributes the sins of the fathers to their sons. That was a saying in Jews at the time but God rejects that and declares ( Ezekiel 18:4) that no sin is tranfered from parents to their children, everybody has to pay for his/her own sin.
  • Giannis - In Reply on Genesis 12 - 3 years ago
With the words GOG and MAGOG the Scripture reffers to nations living very far away from Israel probably to the extreme north. Some theologists indentify those nations with the land that is now Russia. Correct? False?
  • Giannis - In Reply - 3 years ago
Jewish people celebrate PASSOVER. Some christian churches like the Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox Churches and even some Protestand churches celebrate EASTER not PASSOVER. Easter is about the the crusifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ and has nothing to do with what the Jewish people celebrate, but because Jesus was crusified during the Jewish passover those two different celebrations coinside in time.

Are the sins of believers and unbelievers equally offensive to God? The question may be slightly off-kilter. There are two main types of sin and those are 1. sins of ignorance, and 2. presumptuous sins. Jesus made a distinction between the two in Mark 3:

28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Without going into a lengthy discussion of the distinctions between the two types of sin (there are two types of blasphemy, for example), we should recognize from Mark 3 that most sins will be forgiven but one sin will never be forgiven.

    Habakkuk 1:3-4

3 Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention.

4 Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth.

The OT is written for NT believers and has lessons for our modern world. In these verses, we see a similarity in our own world in modern America. Judges are corrupt and their judgments are perverse. Political leaders are corrupt and they promote things that not only oppose God but also do great harm to innocent people under their protection and administration. Take Biden, for example. His insane tax and spending policies are bankrupting poor people and the whole nation, as are his shutdowns of domestic oil production. He supports murder by abortion and depravity by homosexuality. He is blind and wicked and does not know the damage he is doing.

In America, spoiling and violence are prevalent and judgment is perverted, just as Habakkuk prophesied.
