Great post Henry . I don't think Christians should gamble . We are to trust in God to provide for our daily needs , remember when the Israelites wandered the desert ? God provided everything they could possibly need . We are like those Israelites now , wandering in the wilderness waiting for God to bring us into His Kingdom . We must trust in Him to care for us and if we don't always get what we want we have to trust that God has witholden something from us for our own good .

I guess Adam was aware of his sin and tried to cover it with vegetation but we know that that won't cover sin , as we read about Cains unacceptable offering of vegetation . So when Adam was naked and sinless he had no need to cover his private area , then when he had sinned he felt shame , the shame came from his consciousness of sin ( breaking the law that God had given him ) and he tried to hide his shame with vegetation but blood is needed to cover sin so God killed an animal and provided a covering for Adams sin , this points to Christ , he is the lamb slain from the foundation of the world . I hadn't thought of it the way Richard Cain had put it either so I just followed his post with my own train of thought and that's what occurred to me so I posted it . Christ is our garment that hides our sin from God because God can't look upon sin . Christ is our covering , he is the hen gathering his chicks under his wings to hide/cover our sin from God's eyes . God gave Adam a law and he broke it and was punished for breaking it , we are not under the law we are under Christ's wings , he is covering / hiding our sins from God's eyes . An interesting comment Richard , thankyou for that new take on Adam and sin etc . I hope you don't mind me interjecting .

We have heard and read of the names of so many male angels.

Has there ever been a female angel? If no, why not?
  • Luke - In Reply - 2 years ago
That's right, Luke did write about parts which are relative to Paul's three fold ministry in The Book of Acts, along with Peter, John's and also Stephen, and Philip's; rightly called "The Acts of the Apostles"

    Thank you!

The book is a record of the Acts of the Holy Spirit through witnesses chosen before of God

    Thanks Mishael,

I know how to fast. God has called me to fast on many occasions.

Thanks for the info, though. And especially, thank you for praying for my sons. There is certainly a battle for their souls going on. It started in 2000 during a time when the Holy Spirit was directing me in some very serious ways as to what to say and do in the church situation we were in at the time. Much fasting and prayer. So, my kids were targeted by the enemy and they have suffered from this for 22 years. It is a long battle, but I keep on contending for them. They were given to my husband and I to be saved by the gospel message of Jesus. God will have His way in this matter, but it seems that perseverance in faith and prayer is asked of us. I look forward to the day when God restores all that the enemy has taken from my sons and our family during this time period.

Like, Job, God will not allow any of us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. And, like, Job, being faithful and refusing to give up our trust in God is what we are to do as we wait for God to bring our sons back to Him in faith and gives them soundness of mind, soul, and spirit. I do not understand why He is taking so long to do this, but i trust that He will, indeed, return these prodigals back to Him and bring blessing upon blessing upon them.

Hi Richard. Genesis 3:7-10 seem to indicate that Adam & Eve knew they were naked & when God called out to them, it was Adam (not God) who said that he was naked. If 'naked' means 'without sin' as you suggest, was Adam actually telling God that he was hiding from Him because he was sinless? This gets confusing.

    Dere:

Salvation is so YOU will never die; but are GIVEN eternal life.

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, God hath GIVEN to us eternal LIFE, and THAT LIFE is his SON.

YOU DIED with Christ on the cross.

YOU AROSE, a new creation, the LIFE of Christ IN YOU: you are the body of Christ.

1 Timothy 6:16 Who (Christ) ONLY hath IMMORTALITY, dwelling in the light ....

1 Corinthians 15:53 .....and this mortal (you) SHALL PUT ON IMMORTALITY .....Christ ONLY hath IMMORTALITY.

1 Corinthians 15:54 .....Death is swallowed up in victory ......

Colossians 1:27 .....this MYSTERY .....Christ in YOU .....

1 Corinthians 12:27 Now ye are the BODY of Christ ....

Psalms 82:6 I have said, YOU are gods, the children of the most high.

This is the GOOD NEWS of the gospel.

    God bless you!

    Greeting grae;

kjv bible genesis cp;2 verse 22.

also when god said they were naked: naked means without sin not as most think as walking around with no clothes on. god says my ways and my thoughts are higher that the heaven is from the earth than mans thoughts.

    this should help...

fear not most of all preachers and teachers think the same...

peace..if you are born again of a truth god will show you the interpretation thereof...

    Hi Mackoylia.

If you're asking do we have to clean up ourselves before we come to the Lord. The answer is No. We can't clean up ourselves. It's Christ who cleanse us. So yes you come to him as you are. Once you receive Christ spirit there os spiritual growth. You are given a new heart. Sanctification comes after salvation.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 . Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

    Gloria,

I would say that if the Lord is putting it on someone's heart and persuading them to gamble with their money, than it should be okay for that person. I do not gamble because the Lord has put it on my heart not to gamble. I cannot speak for anyone else because if the Lord is leading them to gamble, who am I to say it is wrong for that person.

I do agree with GiGi that it can take over a person's will power and ruin a life. I have seen it happen to some people who were close to me.

In anything we do, and it doesn't even need to be gambling, it can be anything, but whatever it it, does it glorify God?

I'm probably the oddball here, but I always like to fall back on Romans 14:23 which says, "That which is not of faith is sin."

That word faith literally means persuasion. That's what faith means, persuasion. So if I keep that in mind, anything I do, apart from God's persuasion (Persuading me to do whatever it is I'm doing), for me that would be sin.

    Hi Dere.

    Salvation goes out to everyone.

John 1:29. The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

1 John 2:2. And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the WHOLE WORLD.

Revelation 22:17. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let HIM THAT HEARETH say, Come. And let HIM THAT IS A THIRST come. And WHOSOEVER WILL, let him take the water of life freely.

Romans 10:9-10. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, AND SHALT BELIEVE IN THINE HEART that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

    Hi Giannis,

I did some reading some time ago about the Nicolaitans and this man, Nicolas was a proselyte from Antioch. Many believe, and from the history of this man, that he eventually left God's work somewhere down the line and he gathered his own following.

Nicolas is mentioned in Acts 6:5. He's one of the men that were chosen to distribute bread to the Greek speaking Jewish community.

Some historical documents say that Nicolas left the church and became a Gnostic, and began spreading false teaching.

And because his name is Nicolas, they were called the Nicolaitans. They were followers of Nicolas, and the trail leads back, at least to the historians and the archaeologists, to this Nicolas of Antioch. Just a side note!

I do thank you for your thoughts on both Koine and modern Greek. Some of the Greek you have shared has helped me out.

    Hey James,

Were you testing the waters, I feel you have more to add than you ask. I will check out the book. The truth is simple, but we as mankind kick up the dust of wisdom and make it hard to see.

    Don't stay away, God bless,

Gloria. Here's the question if we are to believe God to supply all our needs

Through Jesus Christ then why gamble because God does not work by chance.
  • GiGi again - 2 years ago
    Giannis,

Thank you for the information. Since Scripture didn't really explain the teachings of the Nicolatians, we may not know definitively what they taught and practiced that was so egregious to the Lord.

This was walking distance close to Jerusalem. The New Testament gives no indication Jesus ever had any transportation other than boat or on foot. A think that was pretty much the same for most people then. (Exception was when he arrived in Jerusalem before the crucifixion riding on the donkey. What has been termed by churches as Palm Sunday) By all evidence Jesus never visited any major city. He never was more than 200 miles from his home area and around the Sea of Galilee. Highly recommend "What If Jesus had Never Been Born by D. James Kennedy & Jerry Newcombe.

Jesus and the apostles walked or at times took a boat. No need for Health Clubs when you walk every day and for the distances they did.

Thanks for everyone's contribution. This is a wonderful venue.

    Hi Gloria,

I, too, think that it is ok to participate in gambling. However, like other things (alcohol intake) it can take over someone's willpower and bring ruin to one's life.

But some can gamble as a kind of entertainment and not spend more than they intend and their winnings and losings balance out. My Mom was one who was able to play bingo or other types of gambling with self-control. She kept track of her winnings and losings and pretty much stayed even. So, as entertainment, it was money spent for that. She did not go to movies, out to dinner, or most other types of entertainment.

But other people may be more prone to risk taking in many areas of their life, gambling being one of them. It is not the act of gambling that is wrong, it is the need for risk taking that leads to sin.

    Hi Luke,

Yes, Paul is the apostle whose evangelism to the Gentiles are recorded in his epistles and Acts. He also evangelized Jews that were dispersed in the areas he evangelized. At a specific time, he stopped preaching in the synagogues, but when he was preaching to crowds, there most likely were Jews among those who listened.

Also, some of the 12 apostles also evangelized to peoples in areas that had many Gentiles. So Paul was not the only one who evangelized the Gentiles. We just don't have recorded in Scripture what the other apostles did and where they preached.
