    Hi Fred.

You stated "The apostles chosen, were favored because of their faith , looking for the Messiah, this is the heart that Jesus wants!"

    I have to disagree.

The faith they needed was faith in what Christ done on the cross.

"It hadn't happened yet". They all looked for their Messiah but didn't understand what was to come. (The Church and salvation by the death and resurrection of Christ )

Thus was a stumblingblock for them and this is what John the baptist ministry was all about. Baptism of repentance.

They was still under the old covenant, Christ hadn't died to bring in the new covenant. Hebrews 9:15.

You stated "this is the heart that Jesus wants!,

No man's heart is right until the Lord gives him a new heart.

    Jeremiah 17:9

    Ezekiel 36:26.

The Cornerstone wasn't laid yet, so the foundation couldn't be laid and there was nothing to build on and there was nothing to build with until after Christ rose and they were inpowered.

What was the duties before the resurrection? They tried following him but couldn't.

Paul was seeking to kill Christians until he was converted.

BUT!! When they were filled they had strength and died a mortars death.

Here's they're duties before the resurrection. John 6:28-29. Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

They were chosen to be Apostles but the didn't function as an Apostles until They were filled with the Holyspirit.

    God bless.

I would be interested in you opinion concerning verses 17-25.This was well after the Jerusalem council Acts 15 and Galations 2 when the Jewish Council gave Paul and Barnabas their blessing to continue to preach the Gospel of Grace to the Gentiles (with some Jewish exceptions.) With this uproar while Paul was explaining to James how his Gospel of Grace was succeeding in Gentiles being saved, it seems that many Jews were not convinced that he was preaching their Gospel of believing and keeping the Law of Moses.

Thank you for your reply Chris.

Just curious as they say they are not sure who wrote the scrolls and...just a thought.

By His Grace I will be with Maranatha Tours from October 30th thru November 9th from Dan To Beersheba. We are scheduled to see the caves where The Dead Sea Scrolls were found and time permitting, (we will) go to where the Fire and Brimstone came down.

Yes, the excitement is mounting daily.

    Thank you,

I think their apostleship started even before Christ appointed them. The apostles chosen, were favored because of their faith , looking for the Messiah, this is the heart that Jesus wants!

A looking forward, even as we look toward Him in all things in heaven and earth. These would become the qualifications.

The foundation was laid in their hope of the promise of the coming Messiah, upon which the Holy Spirit would be given at PENTECOST. Now, a firm foundation in the fulfillment of the prophecy.

have you ever experienced the holy spirit that abides in us? If so how and when?

How do we know the bible is written for and directed towards "us", or for "our generation"?

What if God already came back to save the ones who made it into heaven? And we are the ones left behind?

Is this a scenario where I need to have Faith?

Delmarie. God is all love that being true why would God judge a child who

Doesn't grasp or who hadn't been instructed. The same idea applies if someone

Is not of a sound mind so that the can understand God's Word and then how Would

They be held accountable. In the gospels many times Jesus Christ ministered to

Huge Crowds then taught God's Word. So they were healed so they could receive. There is a point in a young person of accountability. The scriptures say bring a child

Up in the word (not exact quote) and when he is old he will not depart from it.

There is more to be shared.

    H. Pokey Nahr. Yes James was saved and he was addressing born

Again Jews still zealous for the law and not after the freedom in Christ.

As it states the law was bondage Galatians ,5:1-18. There were many

Jews born again still walking in the law and condemning gentiles this

Caused great division in the church. Paul addressed this quite often

And there's more to this I just touched on the subject.

    Hi Don,

Thanks and welcome to the site,

You probably been on for a while now, I've been absent due to work related commitments.

I'm doing some catching up and read a few of your replies.

I and many others believe the bible is all you need to feed on the Lord. You can use computer search engines and dig up the history of other men material but nothing beats your person to God relationship through his word. after all it's the Holyspirit that does the teaching not man or the internet.

You may use these sources as methods to assist you with truth they're helpful. the internet has a 100 answers on every topic.

But Jesus says my sheep hear my voice. His lost sheep will find him.

    God bless you.

Richard, Just a few thoughts on Rev. 17,18. The figures of speech in prophecy can be many with various interpretations. We tend to apply it to what we know and are familiar with. A whore or harlot in the scripture is one who has many lovers (sources of affection). Some of the wording in these chapters suggests it is a church that lost their first love "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird". she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. The reason she could think she "is a queen" is she is married to the King. "I am no widow" is because he husband is "risen". "and shall see no sorrow" she can't lose her salvation. Notice that she has "become" the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. At one time she wasn't the habitation of devils etc. When I read Revelation I try to apply only what the Bible says about the different things. It seems to take on spiritual meaning and warning. Example: Rev. 8:10,11 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter. Possible meaning: star fell from heaven (minister of the word falls from truth) the 3rd part of the truth is altered (not all of it yet). The water (Word) becomes Wormwood (poisoned) and many men died (spiritually) because they were made bitter.

I don't believe these caves are the same, Gregory. We do know the location of the Qumran caves where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found as there is an established site & national park there, but of the exact location of the cave where Lot & his daughters dwelt none can be sure, but the best theory around, I've given below.

The Qumran caves are located approximately NW of the Dead Sea, whereas Sodom & Gomorrah were presumed to be located to the South of the Dead Sea on the eastern flank (Sodom, in the area of ancient Zoar, was located some miles above Gomorrah). So when Lot fled Sodom, he & his daughters would have headed further east to find the cave, and from there he would have looked across to Sodom & south to Gomorrah, seeing the cities and the plain going "up as the smoke of a furnace" ( Genesis 19:28). I'm sorry that this information is the best I could find & certainly not meant to be definitive.

    Jesus spoke in parables.

Believing His words requires time and meditation, discovering the truths found in the Holy Spirit.

Time and again, He uses the things in nature to illustrate what we need to know for the journey, a journey here and now, even unto eternal life!

It can be only explained in a way that introduces us to His words, Gods words and not mans! The word that will sanctify us, even purifying us creating the person He wants us to become.

Time spent pondering, He reveals Himself in the third person of what we define as the trinity.

The Holy Spirit is the light of the world, is the light of men, it moved upon the face of the deep. It came upon Mary, it finds its way even with the Angels. Most of all, we cannot do His will without Him! We cannot know the will of the Father and the Son without the Holy Spirit! You must know the Holy Spirit!

Are you waiting for His coming? He may come at any time.

Is the lamp in your hand the light that you need to meet Him? This light, held with the pure oil of the Holy Spirit?

Remember, take the time, make sure your vessel is trimmed and ready. He comes at a time you least expect!

    Repent and be Baptized

You are correct in what you say , the early Jews didn't have any commentaries and I wish I had a dollar for how many times I've heard people on this site say that the Holy Spirit teaches them all things . If we all have the Spirit of Christ then why do we need commentaries , how many times does it say in the New Testament , even Jesus says , that the Spirit of Truth will teach us etc ? I need to be convinced in myself , no one , no human , can convince me of anything , only God's Word is pure and true and righteous and infallible . I trust Him .

Hi Gregory. If I have your question correct, 'now that I am a believer trusting in Jesus only to save me from sin's penalty, when did the promise of eternal life with the Father in Heaven commence?'

If correct, it is my belief that the promise of eternal life began immediately upon your new birth by God's Spirit. When we look at the Scriptures referring to eternal life, we see that it is synonymous to believing/placing one's trust in the Lord. John 3:36: "He that believeth on the Son HATH everlasting life." John 5:24: "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, HATH everlasting life." John 6:47: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me HATH everlasting life."

1 John 5:11-13: "And this is the record, that God HATH GIVEN to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that HATH the Son HATH life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that YE MAY KNOW THAT YE HAVE ETERNAL LIFE, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

All these verses indicate that eternal life is our present possession, i.e. 'you have it NOW'. As soon as our hearts were renewed & the Holy Spirit came to indwell us, our sin was dealt with, we became God's children, and our earthly walk was no longer uncertain, overcome with sin & living without hope in God's Love. And that is why the Apostle Paul stated in Philippians 3:20, "For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ". Paul understood that our conversation (Gk. politeuma: citizenship) had already begun in the heavenlies; that our earthly life now, is just an earthly sojourn - "our affections are set on things above, not on Earth" and "for here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."

When once this earthly life was probably our only joy & hope, now IN CHRIST, we are but pilgrims here, gazing upward, confident & secure towards eternity.

Agreed, Chris. We all need to be teachable and receptive to how God does bring His Truth to us. This is what I think is being meek. It is an attitude of being submitted to God's ways for me and a willingness to go His way.

    The birth of the Apostles.

UPON THIS ROCK I SHALL BUILD MY CHURCH.

He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?

And Simon Peter answered and said, THOU ART THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD. Matthew 16:15-16

    Ephesians 2:19-20 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

    And are built upon the FOUNDATION OF THE APOSTLES AND PROPHETS, Jesus Christ himself being the chief CORNER STONE;

In Luke 6:13 we see that Jesus chose who he would name Apostles.

    "And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;

The question is when did the disciples start operating in the office of Apostles?

    When was the foundation laid?

    1 Corinthians 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

Are we capable of building with gold, silver and precious stone without the dwelling of the Holyspirit?

We do know in Matthew 28:16-17 even after Jesus resurrected the disciples still doubted.

"Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted."

In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus commissioned them to go out to all the world but not to depart from Jerusalem until they were filled with the Holyspirit.

    Acts 1:4-5. Luke 24:49.

I believe not until they were filled with the Spirit that rock the church was built on begun. The disciples began to function in the office as Apostles.

Ephesians 4:10-12. He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

    AND HE GAVE SOME, APOSTLES; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

He didn't do this until he ascended.

    God bless.

Are the caves that Lot and his daughters dwelt in, the caves where they found the Dead Sea scrolls ?
  • GiGi again on Exodus 34:11 - 3 years ago
    Ex 34 cont....

The rest of the chapter transitions into explaining the feasts that the Israelites are to keep: Unleavened Bread (Passover), the firstborn of all their herds and children are to be consecrated to YHWH; the Sabbath commandment; Weeks (Pentecost) (firstfruits of the early harvest); In gathering (at the end of the harvest at the end of the year). Three times a year all of the men are to appear before the LORD God of Israel.

He promises to cast out the nations before them and to enlarge the borders of the land promised, so much so that no man shall covet the land of another, it will be so plentiful.

Then YHWH gives other laws: not offering blood of His sacrifice with leaven, nor keep any of the Passover meal until the morning. The first of the firstfruits are to be brought to the house of the LORD you God. So this would be the first picking of the harvest, nor boil a young goat in its mother's milk.

YHWH tells Moses to write these words, because they are the terms of the covenant of YHWH with the Israelites.

Moses was on the Mount for forty days and forty nights, as before when the first tablets were made. Moses did not eat bread or drink water while there. This is a miracle. A person will die of dehydration long before the 40 days are up. YHWH wrote the 10 commandments on the tablets Moses brought up to the Mount.

Moses comes back down to the people. This time the people did not resort to idolatry nor distrust God's keeping of Moses. Moses' face shone from being in the Presence of God. It was very noticeable and Aaron and the people were afraid to come near Moses. Eventually, the people became comfortable in Moses' presence and listened to him as he told them all that YHWH had instructed him about on the Mount. At some point, Moses would put a veil on his face to hide the shine. He would take it off whenever he was in YHWH's Presence. I imagine he did this so the people would not be afraid to be around him. 2Corinthians 3:12-18 is good to read.
