Thank God for the Chief Shepherd and those who are truly his will always hear his voice!
John 10:3-4. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth HIS OWN SHEEP by name, AND LEADETH THEM out.
And when he putteth forth HIS OWN SHEEP, he goeth before them, AND THE SHEEP FOLLOW HIM: FOR THEY KNOW HIS VOICE.
Here's something interesting and can be misunderstood.
They don't become his sheep by following him, They follow because they are his sheep. They follow him because they HEAR HIS VOICE. They have ears to hear and eyes to see.
This reminds me of
Matthew 13:9-16.
Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.
And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
This is in contrast to John 8:43-45.
The Lord is calling this sheep fold out of Judaism. Look at the previous verses.
John 9:39-41.
Then we Gentiles shall also hear him.
John 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, AND THEY SHALL HEAR MY VOICE; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
God bless.
(see Rev. 18:5).
Verses 7 through 10 make it clear that indeed the return of Christ; destruction of enemies (in Armageddon and judgment in hell); as well as our promotion ruling and reigning on earth in the Millennial period (verse 10) factors in. There are 3 passages that state every knee shall bow and every tongue confess ( Isaiah 45:23; Philippians 2:10 and Romans 14:11).
We are not to seek vengeance ( Romans 12:19). However; we are doing God no favors by attempting to dampen down a character attribute that He has; in this case rewarding His saints and punishing the wicked. Perhaps those who being persecuted are the best examples of those who understand the need for Divine justice. The saints under the throne in Revelation certainly aren't scolded for asking "how long" ( Rev. 6:9); with response in verses 10-11. With Paul and the churches under heavy persecution at this time this was a necessary statement; and the frequent reminder to endure until the end. In order to warn others of the wrath to come; we certainly must believe in eternal judgment and a literal hell.
If we think people simply cease to exist (or are annihilated) it dumbs down the message and doesn't help anyone to have full conviction of sin ( John 16:8-11).
No passage can be isolated and read alone in scripture; without at least being seriously short as to its full meaning. Ephesians 6 is no exception. It is therefore; no coincidence that the previous chapter discusses the family unit as an example of the structure of the church as well as the rest of the book the concepts of heavenly places.
Verse 9; albeit particularly controversial in today's culture; discusses human masters and compares it to our Master in heaven. This is a key term; almost totally ignored among preachers and laypeople alike in reference to our Lord and Savior. I only know one brother who would routinely pray with that mindset which is truly a sad observation.
Verses 11 through 13 talk about standing in His might. We are reminded of Psalm 1:5 as to the state of the wicked in judgment; surely we also will fall if not fully grounded in the Word.
Verses 14 and 15 bring up both having the truth (as opposed to a false) as a mindset; with verse 15 being prepared to speak the gospel of peace (as we see in 2 Tim. 4:2).
Verse 16 on the shield of faith implies utilizing and TRUSTING in God to get us through all circumstances (see 1 Cor. 10:13; Proverbs 3:5-6). He is able to keep us out of temptations and is trustworthy.
Verse 17 shows us where our headship in Christ also protects us from fatal attack. The Word of God isn't exactly a surprise here as to the only offensive weapon; but greatly compromised among many who endeavor to preach the Gospel. We must meditate on it as well as know how to apply scripture in given situations as the Lord leads us to do ( Mark 13:11).
Verse 18 on gets to the last theme; prayer for the saints including Paul which shows that leadership needs to pray for laypersons and vice versa. This certainly is something that many churches need to address more fully ( James 5:16). I honestly don't know any pastors that have asked for prayer to preach more boldly.
33 And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified
Him, and the evildoers, one on the right hand, and one on the left.
The robbers kept reviling Him alright but what Matthew doesn't prophesy is that one had a change of heart, but Luke does prophesy it in chapter 27 one reviled Christ, and the other rebuked the reviler
Luke 27:39 And one of the evildoers which were hanged kept up a railing on Him, saying, If Thou be Saviour, save Thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we are receiving the due reward of what we did: but this Man did nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, my Lord, remember me when Thou shall have come into possession of Thy kingdom
Those next to me I know He loves as much , yet I continue to want to leave the flock.
Drawn away of my own lust looking for something new! Trying to understand who I am, why ,somehow ,someway, I might know what He knows. I am like my brother , who wishes to be like Him , hiding in the garden, waiting?
How many times will He leave the others to come again, and find me? How many times will I take what is mine, only to squander. Do you see Him waiting to kiss me when I return empty! Waiting once again to forgive?
What love, what love! My soul, that forever wants to leave, yet He forever loves me!
How many times I have put the others in jeapordy. How many times they must wonder , again, we will have to wait for Him! They will wait with the same love that He has for all! The flock will wait, maybe for the last time!
Soon He will return and we will be on our way again, hearing His voice as He leads us into eternity!
Forgive me heavenly Father , Thank you for sending your only begotten one, watching and guiding , like no one could ever do! In Christ, the shepherd of our life, who leads and guides, forever loving us this one who has given himself for us!
Do you see Him as you lag behind? Soon you will not hear His voice! He will have gone with the flock, you will no longer hear the sounds of bells, only silence. Repent and be Baptized
......All these animals are just symbolic of ppl and their animalistic natures....All these animals are ppl that have been converted to this lil Child....which is the H.G. that is leading them....Unless ya receive the Kingdom of God as a lil child you will in no wise enter there in....We all must birth a lil Child which is the H.G....Thats y he has to KNOW US.
Thats y Isaiah 11:6 is telling us about KNOWLEDGE.. He has to KNOW US in order for the good seed to be sown in us resulting in a birth, the kingdom has to come via a lil Child which is the H.G. the Child of Promise
......Knowledge shall cover the earth as the waters cover the seas which is an intimacy with Christ the bridegroom....Remember when God told Jeremiah about the New Covenant....God said i will KNOW them all from the least to the greatest which is gona result in a heavenly birth....As Jeremiah saw all the world in travail and birth pains....In fact 27 times in the O.T. the prophets saw this world in travail and birth pains....Which is the result of this knowledge that is gonna cover the Earth....O thank you Jesus for this knowledge your intimacy with humanity....Thus all men will be bornagain....I will KNOW THEM ALL FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST....OK Gotta go do my Walk...GBU ALL
Thank You
..... Rev. 3:20....Behold i stand at the door and knock if any man hears my voice ( his words his seed ) And opens the door....I will come into him and Sup Sup (Communion) with him and he with me ....This is when he KNOWS us and his good seed is sown in our hearts but its also the bread of life..And thank God that this knowledge is gonna cover the earth as the waters cover the seas...Which is an intimacy with him initiating a birth of H.G..
In verse 31, the meaning is that no other payment, whether monetary, goods, etc., can be received in exchange for a murderer's life - he had to pay with his life: life for life.
In verse 32, the story is of a murderer who has killed unintentionally (what we might refer today as 'manslaughter'), and then flees into one of the six allotted cities of refuge before he is caught & taken to the judge. Here he had to remain until the death of the high priest & was then free to go home if deemed innocent; though he would probably continually have to 'look over his shoulder' for the rest of his life, in case the deceased man's relatives were still looking out for revenge. Even to this man, no 'kopher' (ransom) could be paid to secure his release from this confinement in a city of refuge - he had to remain there maybe for many years.
We know that Jesus didn't condemn the woman for her act, rather told her to desist from engaging in such encounters, and John 12:47b tells us "for I (Jesus) came not to judge the world, but to save the world", indicating that His Ministry wasn't of judgement but for souls' salvation; so it was correct that in line with His Coming, that Mercy & Forgiveness be shown & through it, sinners might see their own sin first, before casting their stones.
But I also see another side to this, as part of the given Law, which I've never heard spoken of. The Law of God was clear & binding and the religious leaders knew it. Yet, at that time in Israel, that Law couldn't be enacted or enforced, as their was no king or judge in Israel authorized to do so. I guess the religious leaders took it upon themselves to fill that void, as they also had much sway in the domestic & religious lives of the Jews. But were they legitimate in meting out the death penalty (or, any punishment), for sins/crimes committed? They could certainly see & acknowledge the wrongs done in society, but did they have the power to exact a penalty such as this? Or, would they be limited to committing the woman to a time of separation, of introspection, repentance, & then restoration? Maybe, as a pastor/elder would do in the Church today?
So, I detect that Jesus, in His ministry to both the woman & the leaders, was also showing to them, that such judgement rested only with God and to those He had authorized to exact it; that these religious leaders ought to confine themselves to matters of the synagogue & guidance to the Law's requirements, rather than taking on the role of judges. And after all, the Romans were their rulers/judges at that time, though generally uninterested in these Jewish 'strange' practises. Just a thought.
God led me in this way. He will lead others into what is true and away from what is false when He teaches them from His Word or from the knowledge He has shown others who then share it out. I trust that God will bring people to Truth if they really desire to know only what is true of Him and the faith of Jesus. It is part of our sanctification process. Jesus promised that the Spirit will lead us in all Truth. I believe that wholly.
So, we share what we learn with others. This site is a good place to do so. I have learned much from others here in the short time I have been participating. We interact on here with love and compassion and being sensitive to those who are, as you say, babes in Christ, or who have been brought up in a situation where there was much error taught. We pray for all of us to be teachable.
So, I heartily agree with all you've written and yet sensing that there should be some latitude given for those who have not fully grasped this Truth, or babes in Christ, or even been subject to wrong teaching that has been forcefully placed in their hearts giving no opportunity to question what is taught (sects, cults). I feel that the Lord understands these obstacles, and after all, it is only a looking at & believing in the crucified One that secures God's Approval & Acceptance of the penitent sinner. But, having been broken, then made spiritually alive & longing for & loving the Lord Jesus, one would assume that this relationship based on love would cause the believer to want to know much more about Him; at least from all the Scriptures that reveal Him. Even a healthy loving marriage reflects such a desire - one of earnestly wanting to know everything about the life, interests, & hopes of their spouses, which can only enrichen that special relationship.
And so, as you've shared, it is our united hope that all of us together on this Site, might lovingly share from the Word, & from our knowledge or experience, that would help another believer "grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." I know that I've learnt much from others, seeing other points of view, and also from a concentrated study of the Scriptures, which I might not ordinarily have done, so as to be able to respond to enquirers. May you be encouraged dear sister in all that the Lord places on your heart to share with us.
First of all; God says that it will be more tolerable for some people than for others (in re: the situation with Sodom vs. Corazin and the two other cities mentioned.) There is greater punishment when more is revealed; as when Christ was rejected by the Pharisees and His own people. Also; people are judged for their works; so that the punishment will be commensurate for the deeds done.
Man; this is hard but I have a couple other thoughts here. We must keep in mind that for the unregenerate; there is no love or appreciation for the Holiness of God (much of this academically explained by God's election or predestination of those who are saved). When the nature of sin never goes away; that leads to a desire to continue to hold on to passions; and all the bad fruit which is in the souls of man for all eternity. I feel remiss here if I don't mention music as a MAJOR element influencing men to blindly follow what seems like beautiful aspirations; comforts in the world system; mesmerizing and intoxicating thoughts and other delusions of this fleeting world system and demonic influences. There is always that holding on; never a desire to DIE to self but to avoid the consequences. The reason we don't see much shaken I believe is not only apathy and lives not fought with the full Ephesians 6 armor but the fact that so called "Christian music" today and the artists with their compromised or outright nonbelieving stance is messing up believers minds as well.
Also; much oppression will result from Satanic influence if we focus too much on hell. We cannot understand it; as Isaiah 66 declares it where those in torment are loathed; when we think many of them took the mark of the Beast it may be more understandable. ALL of us even NOW have Satan as our Father if not Born Again. As a believer perfect love casts out fear.
Agape.
As to your comment; scripturally it is interesting to look at David. Or alternatively; the woman caught in adultery in the N.T. God chose mercy over judgment; however it would have been perfectly just in either case for the death penalty to ensue. In the first case; David surreptitiously had Uriah the Hittite killed by deliberately placing him at the front of the battlefield; in order to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba. If he had two or more witnesses for the adultery; and if those who had planned Uriah's demise had been more discerning; they may have seen what was going down; albeit an indirect killing by putting him at risk. Probably the first case with a Hittite wife would not have been pursued by anyone as the Hittites were to remain apart from the congregation because of laws in the O.T. as to those up to the 10th generation of certain peoples based on what they had done. Uriah's own actions of self sacrifice; and not returning home to his wife showed he was indeed a man of valor-hence when the Prophet spoke to David about the situation of taking a man's only possession it was used to indite David who was repentant. There were still repercussions; with the death of the resulting child.
The case of the woman caught in adultery was similar; it was a stoning to death offense; but since the man was not present it couldn't really satisfactorily be prosecuted.
True justice demands the proper penalty; if indeed a murder was not for self defense or accidental but intentional. However; even the likes of Jeffery Dahmer show some hope; as it appeared he repented. Evidence for that is a willingness to suffer death; as he apparently wished knowing what he was capable of. Nonetheless; we should certainly offer the Gospel and not gloat as you say over the death of anyone see Ezekiel 33:11
Sins worthy of death. So we should not take pleasure in loss of life.
And in the other gospel both cursed him that makes four. Peace to you.
And in the other gospel both cursed him that makes four. Peace to you.
The two are not identical is the point also two of them both reviled or cursed
Him and of the other two one did not. Peace to you all four are evil doers that
Doesn't mean the same type of criminal. Again peace to you.
I've been mostly following a few posts and popping up here and there.
God bless you.
What does this mean? That we shouldn't feel sorry for them, or smug that they are being put to death???
