2:2 Desire - Always, as earnestly as new born babes do, #1Pet 1:3|. The milk of the word - That word of God which nourishes the soul as milk does the body, and which is sincere, pure from all guile, so that none are deceived who cleave to it. That you may grow thereby - In faith, love, holiness, unto the full stature of Christ.

1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes. The new birth has been spoken of in 1Pe 1:23. They are babes in Christ. Babes hunger for milk. Let babes in Christ earnestly desire the sincere milk of the word. "The spiritual milk which is without guile" (Revised Version). This word, unadulterated, is the food upon which Christians must feed in order to grow.
