The "us" in this verse is a reference to God's 3 distinct personalities or personas. It is not a reference to the angelic host or to us humans. For this reason, no human can claim to be a member of the Trinity or God.

Even more revealing is the revelation that God's 3 selves talk to each other. This is God talking among himself. What I am saying is, the self distinction of the Son talks to the self distinctions of the Father and the Holy Spirit. This is how God makes his dicisions. We shouldn't be suprised at this because it is much the same way we talk things over within ourselves.

We see this taking place in Gethsemane when Jesus said to the Father, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me." We don't hear what the Father is saying because the Father does not speak so that we can hear him. Jesus said that we have never heard his voice, and we never will. In other words, all the words we will ever hear from God will come from Jesus. This will be true even when we are in heaven.

This verse says that God created the heavens and the earth. John 1:3 says that Jesus created everything there is. We must conclude, then, that Jesus is God.

What we are talking about is self identity or persona. God has 3 personas: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus, then, is the persona or personality through whom God interacts with the human race. The Father is the personality by which God directs his affairs. And the Holy Spirit is the way God inspires us to believe in what is taking place.

The trouble is, we tend to think of God as a composite, made up of 3 separate parts combined into one. But this is not so. If it were, then at one time there wpuld have been 3 Gods. This is what the pagans believe.

The one God is 3 distinct persons or selves. This is what the Bible teaches and what we must believe. Let's say it this way, The same God who is Jesus, is the same God who is the Father and the Holy Spirit. This is how Jesus can say that if you have seen me you have seen the Father. In other words, they along with the Holy Spirit, are the same God.

But the bottom line is: Jesus is the way God deals with us, and always will be!

The scriptures mean what they mean, one may apply the meaning to a different situation , but it means what it means. Not too sure about some interpretations of Gen 1 v27...as we study the scriptures the one obvious thing is we are created in our fathers image, He has a great sense of humor, He gets jealous, He LOVES, and He hates. The traits are both physical and emotional and yes spiritual. If we believe (and I do) that 1 thousand years are as a day with the Lord, then the created Adam came along on the 8th day, (may explain why there are some peoples that out date us by a couple thousand years) STUDY! To show ourselves approved. I believe its coming quickly; we’re not going to fly away. As watchmen we will be required to warn the m***es and fight for every soul until our Savior puts His foot upon the mount. The famine is not for food but the word of God. AMOS 8.11

Genesis chapter is the POWER OF GOD! Ye do err not knowing the scriptures nor the power of God! This interpretation in under the Spirit of love, and of power and of the sound mind. This is the right interpretation for all seasons.
  • Evangelist Pauline Orr on Genesis 1:27 - 12 years ago
I believe from my studies, that the invisible God the Father, the Almighty God the Son,in consultation with the highest of the eternal counselors **("Let us make man in our image and likeness") - made man in their image and their likeness as a spiritual being first-(Adam) then in Genesis Chapter 2, (Adam)- the flesh man was formed - [A-***ual]. Then I believe that Eve was taken from him (Adam). Separated into a single individual, simply because Adam was lonely. Making two individuals who were suitable for each other, and suitable for fulfilling the plans of God of filling the earth with the same DNA, because I believe that there were other beings that were in existence and not suitable for Adam. They were not in the image and likeness of the Father and the Son. The bible does not go into detail as to what was taking place before time in great detail. So it's not necessary for us to know certain things. However, in time, we will know the whole story.

Of no private interpretation also means that the Bible is not only for the spiritual. It is written for all who will believe.
  • Mark on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Jesus says he came to save those that are lost, Those that have a carnal mind.
We all begin with a carnal mind that must be renewed.
The Bible is to feed the carnal mind unto salvation.

That it's good and it tells us how heaven and earth was created by God and how he created men and for what reason He created men
  • Jonas T Suizo on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
The scripture is written by inspiration of God and the interpretation is not suppose to feed the minds of the carnal minds. interpretation is profitably spiritual and never carnal for, afterall, there is no private interpretation of the scriptures. What do you mean by private interpretation? well one's interpretation should fall within the spirit of God or one should have the Spirit of God for one to be able to come up with the right interpretation. Questions, therefore, that are too carnal are not to be advised in the scriptures. For the men who wrote this were not all learned. In God everything comes by revelation and not by reason, hence, it is His Spirit and never even the spirit of a man like that of Solomon in his ways! Good for him he was part of the promise of God for his father David and that he should enjoy the works of his hands. other died having not received the promise! If you cannot understand the scriptures ask from God for He will give all. never ask anything from man! Thou fool! stop asking questions from filthy and profane people.

Meat as we know it today was not given to eat until after the flood. Before the flood it was herbs and fruits even for the animals and birds.
  • MARTA FRAZIER on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
God so loved man that he gave him dominion over every living thing that he made, every animal, every fish everything that floated or swim in the water, he gave us every food we could imagine! we did not need money for nothing we had it all! thats how much he loved man and them made us in his image. like him
  • Vernon on Genesis 1:1 - 12 years ago
The bible says that, God created heaven and earth in the beginning. For us human beings there had to be a beginning otherwise how would we be able to understand anything with our finite minds? God's ways are not our ways, and God's thought's are not ours, because God is in heaven and we are on earth.
  • George Hartwell on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
I am quite new to Bible reading so I have a few questions to ask. I am sorry if my questions seem naive to some people, but perhaps some kind person might help me out. Verse 3 - what was the source of the light since the Sun and the Moon and the stars were not created until verse 16? Did God ensure that the light shone on the Earth from one direction only so that night and day was created by the Earth spinning on its axis at the same rate that it spins today? Verse 11 - vegetation was created but would have required the Sun for photosynthesis. Did the light created in verse 3 also provide warmth which would also have been required? Verse 16 - before the Sun and the Moon were created, was the Earth floating about in the void not orbiting any other celestial body?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer me.

“Thus says the Lord (Yahweh) your Redeemer who formed you from the womb: ‘I am the Lord who made all things, who stretched out the heavens alone, who spread out the earth. Who was with me?’”
    (Is. 44:24)

“You, God, even You alone, You have made the heaven...the earth and all things” ( 2 Kings 19:15).

“You are the Lord, even You alone; You have made the heaven, the earth and all things” ( Neh. 9:6).

We are to take charge and be masters of every created things on earth. The inability of man to do that is not the fault of God.Man on earth have no excuse of failure,we are to be masters, having dominion to subdue.(legalised divine prosperity)

I'm confused about the part where is says and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. Is this something to do with the extraterrestrial? I know the bible doesn't say anything about that but I do believe there r things that we just aren't supossed to know about. But I feel like that's what its saying when I read it" let the waters bring forth abundantly the MOVING CREATURE THAT HATH LIFE AND FOWL THAT MAY FLY ABOVE THE EARTH IN THE OPEN FIRMAMENT OF HEAVEN"

  • Shaniya on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
When i read Genesis Chapter 1, it gives me the knowledge that God first walked this entire Earth. It tells me about his creation of the things thats being used and the meaning of his creation. I thank him for creating man in his own image and giving us his promises. He is a loving God and i thank him.
  • Taffie on Genesis 1 - 12 years ago
Some scientists who believe in the big bang theory have concluded that there had to be a conciousness guiding the explosion of mater. This is because the mathematical precision that resulted cannot be explained away as chance. Had the force or speed been 1 millionth of a unit less the universe would have imploded the same unit more and it would have eploded. As it is the known universe is still expanding at a constant rate such that the ralative distance between planetary objects and such is the same as it has ever been.
As to the whole seperation of the waters i think the earth was an idea in God's heart hence the 'formless and void' bit so he created space aside from heaven and shaped it. So maybe the firmament that seperates heaven and earth would be space, but hey i could be way off.

    In the beginning God.
The most humbling thing to me in Genesis 1:1
The fact that God was, always has been, and always will be. Yet he planned in all of time to create me, and knows every detail of me. He cares very deeply about me, loves me p***ionately, no matter how utterly flawed my choices are in life. I come to Him in gratefulness to because of His amazing love.
