In case others are similarly struggling, Mark 16:9, "When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week... " And again in Matt 28:1, "After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week... " Christians did not "celebrate the discovery of an empty tomb. " They were celebrating the resurrection of their Lord. Additionally we have evidence from Early Church writings from the Didache dating at or before Revelations , Barnabas, Justin Martyr, Irenaeus, to Clement of Alexandria, Origen and Cyprian, all with one consent declare that the Church observed the first day of the week.
