all the versions of the bible have a common difference with the kjv in the first verse, heaven in the kjv is translated heavens in all other translations. I believe there is a reason for this. firstly, I believe that the kjv is the only real undiluted version of Gods word. the first verse gives the reader the scope of what is to come next as was moses style of writing indicates when compared to other passages written by him. the first chapter of genesis is not about the creation of the universe, it is about the creation of the "heaven " singular not heavens, and the creation of the "earth " as defined in the verses following as the "firmament " dry land . if we study it carefully as it was meant to be studied, not just read lightly, you can see that the planet existed, water existed, the sun was there, the spirit moved upon them to undo the tragedy that had befallen the earth as a direct result of the fall of satan the "prince of this world " who had a throne that he exalted himself at some point in time according to the prophet Isaiah, the seed was in the earth, that life was to be "replenished " on the earth, satan was already fallen, and that the earth was ruined in judgement. read it prayerfully and let the holy spirit guide you.
