In this parting of ways, Lot relied on his physical eyes. Plain of Jordan was well watered, even as the garden. Worldly wise it will do. Yes for man without calling he sees wealth as gain and without forsaking all what does his religion amount to. We shall come to it soon.
The Spirit sets a few names leading to Zoar which is synonymous with a trifle, and outer darkness. Egypt and Sodom in one breath, are a bit too steep is it not? But it is how the cities are lined up in the will of God. "And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified."(Rev.11.8) The adjective 'great' without exception is used to establish the divine Will " The people which sat in darkness saw great light," and judgment is in order. Thus tribulation is 'great' (Mt.4.16;24.21) Jerusalem, Sodom and Egypt are one and the same. Babylon is yet in future, same fate as Babel. Fall of it was the beginning and it sets fall of Babylon as sure and beyond recall. Lot was heading to it both eyes open
