They rejected God and wanted a king, and the Spirit has set this for our instruction, " Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;/That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles."(1 Sam,8,19-20)
What is the secret place of a child of God? "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty."(Ps.91.1). What was in the secret place of the nation who wanted to be like other nations? Darkness.

( Jn 15.5) The nation of Israel refused Jesus and chose Barabbas. Has Barabbas made the world any better.
