One good question; of course is the hypothetical of losing it all if we would remain faithful as the backdrop. Jesus did tell His disciples to sell all they had and follow Him; albeit later on they were to bring supplies with them once Christ physically was about to depart the earth. Nonetheless; as we see with Peter early on and Paul as well their own financial prosperity wasn't important; Paul demonstrates the work ethic to supply His needs but we don't seem to see that with Peter; and there is enough scriptural warrant to show how there should be financial assistance to not only leadership in a church but widows and others in need distributed with wisdom; of course.
I don't have kids but can say with the work ethic I grew up with even in an unsaved parental atmosphere I knew I had to mow the lawn and do other things for what would now be a meager allowance indeed. A parent really isn't under obligation to reward their children at ALL for chores; but look at how it is today with everyone over 12 it seems (maybe younger) with their own cell phones; kids even younger with computer games; etc. If we don't look at work as being a blessing of God along with financial benefits whatever it is (unless some less than reputable establishment) we have a bad attitude; and of course our kids can see this and mirror our actions. Truly our good and bad actions are repeated by our kids; along with their own unique sense of humor at times.
Giving; of course should be not only to check off a box but in a loving expression and desire to see missionaries and those in our own local body including pastors blessed. Let's look at it from a merely selfish point of view to make a point. If distributions aren't effectively planned and given to those in need what consolation will it be if we lose our own jobs and ask the local church for help? Let's extend that concept toward others as we should desire for them what we do for ourselves.
