Once David got to the later stages of his reign; there were some consequences to his actions and his son Solomon would achieve more or less peace in his day which sadly was the beginning of the end for Israel and Judah as judgment was about to come.
Psalms discusses repeatedly David's prayers to overcome his adverseries but also verses that likely show consequences of his own sin as we see in Psalm 38:11; which commentators suggest may be a type of venereal disease suffered because of the many women he was with; which of course dwarfs in comparison to Solomon and his escapades. Nonetheless David was a man after God's own heart ( 1 Samuel 13:14). This shows his strength in great humility and servitude slong with patience with Saul and his minions who put him on the run a number of times before he eventually was defeated in battle. ( 2 Samuel 16:11). The Lord dealt with this issue in His timing and established the throne of Solomon; as David could not build the Temple because he was a man of war ( 1 Chron. 28:3).
With Solomon's brief reign at the pinnacle of the kingdom which would have been extended and continued his posterity through his descendants once again a way waw found for him to forfeit these promises. Ecclesiastes seems to show lessons learned a bit late but it would seem in time for repentance, realizing his folly.
The kingdom of Israel and Judah where the tribes were split were judged by invasions of several nations; but here I will focus the most on the Babylonian invasion. We see Jeremiah the "weeping prophet" and it is assumed but not explcit he was martyred. Luke 11:50-51 says this about the lawyers at the time
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
51From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
