    Ze.14:10-11 (1 of 2)

    "New Jerusalem"

"Jerusalem: and it shall be lifted up, and inhabited in her place, from Benjamin's gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses./And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited."

God himself serves as a wall of fire so the city has no need for the sun.

Prophet Isaiah also refers to it with specific qualities that the city in former times could never attain. God steps in and His mercy surrounds it. "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith theLordof hosts." He removes the odium it carried in the former times. "And I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day./In that day, saith theLordof hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree."(2:9-10).

The Book of Zechariah begins with the promise of God. (1:5-11) For he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye." Now Isaiah throws light on the change of attitude because the holy city of God shall know what keeps them safe. "Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise."(Is.60:18)

North as a direction often associated with judgment. "Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land."(Je.1:14)

Prophet Jeremiah also spoke of rebuilding this wall on the north side. ""The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when this city will be rebuilt for me from the Tower of Hananel to the Corner Gate." (Je.31:38-NIV) Prophet Zechariah refers in the key verse,"And from the tower of Hananeel unto the king's winepresses" the distance of which " describes the greatest length of the city from North to South.
