Precious friend, the "gift" of tongues is Very Controversial. So, let us prayerfully Consider, According to Scriptures:

Under God's Law, in HIS 'Prophetic' Program, believe AND be water baptized 'to be saved':

    1) doctrine: tongues, with Other 'signs,' Would Follow them that believed Mark 16:16-20

    2) execution of doctrine: those in the upper room, waiting, received the Baptism "With" The Holy Spirit "Poured out From CHRIST, for power" and each, from Many nations, "heard the Wonderful Works of God, IN his OWN tongue {'KNOWN' language}" Acts 2:1-11

During the 'transition' from Law over to GRACE, after Paul was saved Acts 9:

    3) This 'power' was Also Given to the "first Gentiles saved," Acts 10:44-45

    4) In the 'carnal' Corinthian assembly, what is the 'purpose' of tongues? One teacher offers this: "Tongues are a sign for the believer." According To The Scriptures, God Clearly Says:

1Co 14:22 "Wherefore tongues are for a sign, Not to them that believe, but to them that believe Not:..."

Thus, Always BE VERY CAREFUL of "what men say," ok? But study:

Rightly Divided ( 2Ti 2:15) From "Things That DIFFER!":

After the 'transition' period, and God's "Dispensation of GRACE is Fully Implemented," is there still a "Confirming {sign} need" for the gift of tongues? Again, What Saith The Scripture about three gifts?:

    5) 1Co 13:8-10 "...whether there be tongues, they shall cease;...when That Which Is Perfect Is Come, then that which is In Part Shall Be Done Away."

IF "That Which Is PERFECT Has Come!" then there 'should' be No Controversy about tongues/interpretation, since they "Have Ceased!" Correct?

And, Further, God Teaches us, Under HIS GRACE: "...we walk BY FAITH, 'Not' by sight {signs, experience, feelings, emotions, etc.}" 2Co 5:7

  • The Difference between Prayer Language and the Gift of Tongues - In Reply - 3 years ago
Two commentaries about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We can ask for a specific gift. The Holy Spirit chooses for us. It is as He wills.

The Bible says to desire the best gift.

    Wesley's Notes for 1 Corinthians 12:11

As he willeth - The Greek word does not so much imply arbitrary pleasure, as a determination founded on wise counsel.

    People's Bible Notes for 1 Corinthians 12:11

1Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit. There are named in 1Co 12:8-10 nine gifts, all supernatural, imparted by the same Spirit, which distributes them according to his own will.

*** the Gift of Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues are ministry gifts. Ok?

"speaking in tongues or praying in tongues" is entirely for your own edification. It is not the Gift of tongues.

Sacha is right. It may help if you attend a church that welcomes the gifts of the Holy Spirit. People lay hands on you to receive your prayer language.

Find in the gospel books where all the disciples were in the Upper Room on Pentecost praying, when the Holy Spirit, as Jesus promised, came in as a mighty rushing wind and fell on them. Be at peace and relax. The prayer language is for your Rest and Edification.

Your human brain and emotions will not understand it.

It as the Holy Spirit wills. Tongues are a sign for the believer. It gives REST to our spirits. It is an act of faith. At times it is deep inner groaning. It makes no sense to the natural human mind.

If you ask the Holy Spirit for a gift; receive it by faith.

When we draw close to the Holy Spirit, He draws close to us. He comforts us. He teaches us, as in that He reveals Jesus to our mind, heart and soul.

An example of this is in Luke 1:46-55, 2:19

"My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my Spirit hath Rejoiced in God my Savior."

I ask? can anyone sing, "Holy Holy Holy is His Name" without your spirit exalting in God?

What do we think of those who almost died and were revived; and say they saw something or someone not of this world? Are they all faking it?

I was so close to dying from alcohol + downer cocktails; I was suicidal. I wanted to die from a broken heart.

One night I saw Jesus in a vision, not smiling. His eyes pierced my soul. Someone said, why does the Bible say it's wrong (evil). 2 Timothy 3:5, 15.

I woke up saved and sealed with the Holy Spirit the next morning. All the demons were gone.

Jesus is alive. He is involved in peoples lives. You have to decide that every verse in the Bible is Truth. If you seek a gift from the Holy Spirit, then ask. Read everything about it. Your faith has to be involved. Seek and you will find.

In my life, I learned to fast, and pray for answers.

Stay separated from the frivolous; read slower and ask the Holy Spirit to teach me.

The greatest power and faith, comes through a spirit that worships and is free to Praise exceedingly. Isaiah 6 makes me cry because Jesus is so Holy and lifted up.

We are clean through His Blood. We can approach for what we Need.

Sometimes perhaps we downplay the worship and adoration of who Jesus is.

I truly understand how hard it is to separate ourselves from busy lives, to spend an hour just sitting in His Presence. The benefits are worth it.
