Could anyone help me locate any scriptures in the KJV Bible that reference apologizing publicly to the congregation at church for being arrested ??

My brother who is the Bass guitar player in church, was pulled over and arrested.

He was accused of DUI but he wasn't drunk. Anyway he is waiting for a court date to prove he is being falsely accused, no tests were done, only a New Young Trooper basing it strictly on his opinion . My brother's name was automatically put in the local newspaper and someone brought it to the preachers attention.

My brother was told by the preacher and a board member of the church that he could no longer play the guitar in church until he apologizes to the church and asks for their forgiveness.

The Preacher says it says in the Bible that he must do this.

Can anyone help me find it and educate myself about such!!

My brother had drank three beers over a 4 1/2 hr time period. The Preacher also said it is a sin to drink a beer.

I just want to know. I've never read about this and I've been going to church all my life.

Thanks for the help if you can enlighten me!!!

    Hi Sheila.

I Would like to give my opinion on this,

Being someone brought it to the Church and made it public, After seeing it in the newspaper Maybe an apology wouldn't hurt, There's weaker vessels out there that stumbles when they see something like this, It brings negative attention to the Church and to its leaders.

He's not asking them for forgiveness, He asks God for that, But apologize to the Congregation for the stir it might cause, and the picture he may have painted. Here is the context I'm trying to apply in Romans 14:13-23. Even though in Romans 14. they're talking about meat but you can draw an example out of it.

This is why I'm against a Christian drinking, It's because the World sees it and it hinders your testimony. And weaker Christians stumble, And it hinders his ability to apply Galatians 6:1-8. When he's trying to restore someone. If you have to drink perhaps a safer place to do it is at home.

Maybe here is an opertunity can be taken advantage of to see if someone is willing to Apply Galatians 6:1. in his case.

Galatians 6:1. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

    God bless.

A few other points it doesn't say in the Bible don't drink, it says everything in balance. Many years ago my step son visited our house at 2:00 in the morning needed to talk and proceeded to tell me everything he did wrong over the past several days. After his confession so to speak I ask him if he's ok he looked and said are you angry I said no besides your condemning yourself enough you don't need any help, immediately he said I'll try not to do any of those things again. You literally watched the guilt burden lift right off him. To this day he never forgot that night. We all sin and fall short of the Glory of god, and question was what your brother did intensional I don't believe so but I don't know. I'll still go with He without sin cast the First stone. God Bless

Ask Gods forgiveness yes everybody no also he without sin cast the first stone, also jesus christ said forgive 70 times 7, the person reporting it has the greater fault. God already new it. Let go and forgive and forget.

One more thought... it's interesting that they said to ask for the church's forgiveness. No, your brother needs to ask for God's forgiveness! I do think that's fair for them to request an apology to be back in the worship band though, but I don't think a public one is needed, especially if most people didn't know it happened. Again, I'm only basing an opinion on limited info.

    Hi Sheila,

That's a tough situation- sorry your family has to go through that.

I don't consider myself any legal or pastoral authority on the matter, but I'm happy to offer my opinion as a Bible believing Christian.

First, your brother made a mistake. If the police gave him a DUI then he definitely was over the legal limit. It was illegal and irresponsible what he did and that is final. People make mistakes. He should be glad he didn't hurt or kill anyone while driving. I think it's a sin to do that. People who do that and hurt others are affected their whole life with guilt and some have dramatic things occur. So, a lot of darkness is avoided by him getting a ticket and learning a lesson. If he feels he's not guilty and continues doing it, then maybe some very dark days could be ahead for him and that would be extremely sad. It would be unfair to everyone else if he did that again. For instance, to me. What did I do to deserve someone else driving impaired on the same road as me? That's very wrong. I also think it's wrong for you to defend him. He got a DUI. They don't give DUIs if someone isn't impaired. If impaired he could murder someone. Just stop defending this sin.

Drinking alcohol in moderation is ok, as Jesus turned water into wine. But God forbids drunkenness and harming your holy temple (body). And it's wrong to endanger others.

If your brother was a normal member of the church, I would say the preacher is out of line in his demand. But he's in a worship team as a leader- maybe he took an oath? or signed or agreed to certain conduct? He obviously can't do worship team anymore.

But I think asking him to publically apologize is out of line as it didn't affect them. There likely are many other sins being commited that others don't publically apologize for. The only difference is this one was published in the media and probably was embarassing for the preacher. I'd apologize to preacher, but if not loving then find a new church. Go and sin no more.
